My Nearly New vid, Volcano (Queer as Folk) was not supposed to have black spots at the end so if you want to see the entire thing, you can see it here.

I'm terrible with any sort of meaty feedback for much of anything, but I really loved The Trouble with Poets. It reminds me of how much I loved Highlander, and of what a dork I was back then to not recognize the Great Epic Romance between Duncan and Methos...

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm really glad that it helped bring back the Highlander love. And don't feel bad, I didn't at first recognize the epic slash of Clark/Lex so I understand.

Wow! What a *great* D/M vid! You had a lot of clips that don't normally make their way into D/M vids, great editing (I loved your judicious use of transitions and effects, and the sequences with rapid cuts were really effective with the music!), and a good song choice. A real treat to watch! :)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much for the feedback! I'm glad the transitions and effects worked for you so well and I'm always to hear people like like the song.

[identity profile] unovis-lj.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Just watched on my laptop and loved it; can't wait to see it larger. Especially loved the way you used the [originally goofy] double q spiral.

Thanks!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked the spiral so much as it's one of my favorite things about the vid.

Wonderful vid. I love D/M and you put this together very well. Loved the song and the images.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it, I was hoping you would :) And always yay for song love!

Thanks :)

Wonderful vid! I loved the way you brought key clips together in very telling ways, i.e. overlaying Kronos flashes in the dojo scene from CaH. Also, as Unovis said, using the goofy spiral to much greater effect than it was in Rev 6:8. Very nicely done! Thanks for sharing.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the feedback! It's good to hear you liked the dojo overlaying images not to mention the spirals.

Wonderful vid! I'm afraid I'm not very good with vid feedback (all I know is it all looks very difficult and time consuming, and you must have a bucketload of patience *admires*), but I love the choice of clips you've used here, and the comparisons and contrasts you've drawn with them (e.g. Duncan and Methos at the end of 'Revelation 6.8' and the flashes of their own dark moments as they walk away). Your timing seems great, and although I've never heard the song before, but you've made it fit very nicely (I admit I smirked a bit at 'the trouble with shrews' part *g*).
Thank you for taking the time to make and share this. It's always good to see that HL fandom is still immortal alive and kicking! : )

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! This is good vid feedback, thank you for pointing out some specific things you like about it. I'm so glad the flashes of their dark moments worked for you. And yay for liking the song although it's actually "the trouble with shoes" but that works quite nicely hehe. And yeah, immortals and their slash will never die :)

BTW, love your icon!

Oh, I liked this!

I like how you grouped together shots of them laying down, and tossing things to each other. Also, I liked the way you interspersed the flashbacks. I know there's lots of subtleties that I missed, but I noticed and appreciated those things on my first viewing.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'm glad those groupings worked well for you as well as the flashbacks as I spent a lot of time on them.

Oh, wow! I'm going to have to watch that several more times, but I love the nuances in it, the flashbacks to their relative pasts (both views of Kronos/Melvin Korin), the way the lyrics fit in, the back and forth takes on characters... everything, really. Lovely. Sorry not to have more coherent praise, but thank you.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked a lot of the things I put in it and mentioned them. It's good to know you enjoyed it enough to watch multiple times :)

Yay, a new HL vid! I really love the way you showed the history that lives in these guys. And these guys have a lot of history! So cool the way you showed the darkness inside both of them. Of course, it's the wonderfully layered images which added so much depth.

In addition, here's just a bunch of things you did that I liked:
nice to see a lot of the shots from their first sword fight under the bridge.
You picked a cute scene for the line "the trouble with you is you drive me nuts".
the cute short Duncan smile on that word in the lyrics.
the series of closeups of them feeling the buzz was wonderful.
Using CaH for "trouble with shoes is they come untied"
great scared face on Methos for that word in the lyrics.
liked how you went from the literally dark shots from the horsemen ep to the light and melancholy shot of Methos and Alexa.
liked the use of beheading shots to illuminate the line "it's what makes us real"
and...you used the spiral!

The interesting and fresh way you added layer upon layer gave this new meaning for me. Thanks!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, thank you so much for all the feedback!! I'm really glad you liked the layered images and how it showed the history and darkness between them. I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me the specifics you loved especially as many are some of my favorite things in the vid. I'm so happy it was fresh for you. Thank you again!

[identity profile] devohoneybee.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
This vid is knocking my socks off. I love especially the use of quick flashback cuts to give a rich text to the primary encounter in whatever scene it is. And the "not even poets know what I feel" line just breaks me with the image you use of Methos. Thank you so much for the D/M love!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you're enjoying it especially the flashbacks. And that feel line is the one that always emotionally gets to me so I am really happy to know your reaction to it. Thank you for the feedback!

[identity profile] naewinter.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen the show for years, I loved this vid. =D

Thank you! I'm glad the flow worked for you.

Great job, very creative. I'm particularly impressed with how you've intercut scenes half across the series :-P Also, nice idea of layering the shared quickening over some scenes.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the intercutting and quickening layering which I was really pleased about.

I have no context and therefore no idea what went on, but just wanted to pop in and say I loved the editing in this. The source looks very static and I absolutely loved the way you nonetheless managed to make it move. I thought (from what I can gather, anyway) you painted such a gorgeous picture of the characters' shared histories and their complex relationship. My favourite part is the 2:04 - 2:13 bridge, with the gorgeous overlays on the cues.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much for the feedback! It is pretty static except for some zoom ins/outs and some circular shots for the buzz (first chorus) but it doesn't have much. I'm so glad the shared history came across and that you liked the overlays :D

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, this is fabulous! What a brilliant song choice for them (I'd never heard it before). I loved it! I have such fond nostalgia for Duncan/Methos... it's great to see such a strong vid being made. And all my favourite Methos-y moments included. *happy sigh*

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! The song is one of my favorites so I'm really happy you like it. I didn't know you liked D/M but I'm really glad to know you enjoy it. They/he's so cute :)

[identity profile] moonprincessnat.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, that was wonderful! The editing in this video was terrific--the quick flashes of the past overlapping the present were perfect. Nice choice of music, too. Thanks so much for sharing. :-)

I'm so glad you liked it and that the flashes of the past worked for you. Thanks for commenting!
