I must have got this off a list of Vividcon vids a while back, but I've watched it over and over and feel it's about time I commented.
Firstly, I've mentally nicknamed this as the "Henry has two mommies" fanvid, because obvious reasons. On the show I find Emma portrayed as a bit too much of a one-note every-woman character for my tastes, but this vid really brings out the best of the complicated relationship between her and Regina: the commonalities and the conflicts.
Butandalso all the parallels. I love parallels. The daughter/son verse just took my breath away the first (few (dozen)) times I watched. But surrounding that, the whole arc of her hating and then becoming her mother - and finally having to move past all that to work together with Emma in that last sequence.
You mention the music is less emotional than your usual. It works super well for me; I'm a real sucker for emotional restraint as a way of heightening the emotional power. The reason I'm watching the video again tonight was that at choir practice this evening one of our songs started with a certain four notes and I was trying to figure out why I suddenly had all the feels, and yeah, it was those four long notes from the intro to this vid.
