I saw several people comment on how there was no plot...and i didn't get it, because not only did the show introduce an ensemble of characters that, yes, were cliches, but then y'know, real people CAN be clixhes, but it introduced a time and a place and the biggest character of all, NOLA itself. I felt like it laid out the groundwork, set up relationships and...it's not The Wire, but I think what The Wire has proved is that there's a long term vision rather than a quick resolve plot driven dshow...
