Wait, I do have one piece of advice. Not sure what programs you're familiar with, but the more edit systems you know, the more hirable you are. In particular, if you don't know Avid then, if you can swing it, buy a month's subscription and teach yourself. I think it runs around $80/month. Right now I'd say that Avid is forever a solid choice, Premiere is the up and comer, FCP7 is on it's last dying breath, and probably someone somewhere is using FCPX, maybe. Other programs that you hear about in the vidding community -- Vegas, Lightworks, Vista, ect -- I don't think that most people I work with even know they exist.
