Life On Mars Series Finale

Wow. Best. Ending. Ever. It deserves its own post because of the AWESOME. I had heard of its greatness and it definitely lived up to it.

Sam flew off a building! That has got to be one of my favorite moments EVER in TV history.

Okay back up to the beginning. I loved the beginning of the episode with Sam having to actively go against Gene especially with all the partnership they had built up over the two seasons and with that last episode. Then I got really confused in the middle and frustrated because I wanted answers and to go *home* to present time and the whole amnesia didn't make sense to me because Sam knew about all the modern stuff. But it did bring some great emotional moments with everyone so that was great. And then be careful what you wish for because finally Sam and I went back home and it sucked. It was boring and I thought that with the whole meeting about ethics, they would just have Sam rethink his own because of Gene and say it was okay. But then he went to the roof and I knew he would jump and they played the *perfect* music and then he lept and it was so beautiful. Makes me happy just thinking about it. I love his little smile on the lawman lyrics, they fit exactly and I am now completely in love with that song. And the circling was beautiful and so LoM. And have I mentioned I love his little smile right as he lept off? :D

I thought the show was going to end there and I was pretty happy with it because although ambiguous, it showed to me Sam finally embracing his 1973 life and being happy with it instead of wanting to go back to the present. Also, the roof parallel! I fully blame vids for making me remember that but I was even more impressed with the writers there. In both cases Anne and what she represents caused Sam to not die in the 1973 world whether by living or suicide (but is it suicide if it lets him live again?) So much trust and courage to do that as well that he just had to be able to go back to 1973 after that. And he did! I'm so glad they showed it because it made me even more happy and emotionally satisfied because he got to save everyone's life, apoligize, reunite with everyone, finally get his kiss with Anne and just like I predicted, get interupted by Gene and ride with him in the car. I love them way too much with their hilarious "elegant banter". I don't know if I can say I'm into the slash but I enjoy it and am happy to have them driving off into the sunset.

After all that I don't even care if it makes sense or not and I'm not trying to understand what exactly happened. The coma explains enough (especially with the Hyde door!) and the hows of the situation aren't really important. Sam is happy with his *family* and doing a job he loves and that's enough for me. He's in his dreams :) Turning off the radio was the perfect touch. As was the creepy girl turning off the TV (she scared me completely with her earlier appearance). What an ending.

Now my question is: where are the Life on Mars S2 vids??? I haven't seen any and that's ridiculous. Although there was a total shout out to [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup's awesome Fast Cars vid in an interview "it was a world of fast cars – that was his liberation" which just shows the song choice is perfect.. I definitely recommend this series to everyone. It's just so *good*.

After Changes and Life on Mars, I really need to catch up on all of David Bowie's music.
