This is not a happy Alias post
WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?! *laughs* Okay, NOW I get the badness, the utter inexplicably ridiculousness of it. I can't believe it. The worst? Has to be the complete character assassination of Irina Derevko. SICK. Oh yes, now she's evil and wants to kill everyone and take over the world because she loves power sooooo much and all because of fucking Rambaldi. Who I have to say, is probably Alias's greatest flaw to me. I've never understood what was so special about this guy especially if the only thing he did besides predict the future is cause you to live forever which cmon, that is so cliche and so not even worth it (see Sloane's end). If you're going to use that as series long arc for the baddies, I'd like, as the audience, to actually get why it's so important. But whatever. I'm almost glad they "killed" her (she can't be killed like that in my mind) because it literally shows how they killed her character. Ugh.
Then how the FUCK can you kill Jack? I had predicted Irina's death but his? Totally unnecessary. And anyways, Jack cannot die. He must have taken some sort of pill...it's already saved two people's lives. I just can't believe they would do that. I did *love* his last scene with Sydney because they can never take away how much they love each other and how beautiful and emotional that love is. I loved the flashbacks too, definitely the best part of the finale by FAR. But seriously, Jack cannot die. And he didn't even get a SCENE with Irina. Although I suppose it's for the best since she wasn't herself.
I suppose it wasn't as bad as my worst case scenario which was they find some way to completely negate ALL of the past Jack/Irina and Irina and Sydney stuff and make it so it was all a lie. And then kill them all. At least Irina said she still loved Sydney which is definitely the truth. But it was pretty much emptiness by that time. Blah. It's just it was SO BAD that it becomes laughable. I just couldn't understand Irina's motivation at all and that's unacceptable. I don't know what the writers were smoking or what they're explanation is but I think they are complete idiots for doing that.
Then the desert island was LAME. Ugh. They think that will make it all better again and make it a happy ending? Blech, shoot me now. I looooove paradise beach settings but it was all empty. I suppose a Syd/Vaughn shipper would be happy about it and I'm glad Sydney's at least in a happy place I guess although I'd rather see her doing some spying. Cute naming her son Jack but it just reminded me *more* of Harry Potter where all the people I love die and it's like naming your kid after them will make it all better and instead it's still kind of lame. I did like that the girl showed potential to be a spy. You can't get rid of the SpyFam! Muahaha.
Besides that...Marshall was really cute? I remember he had a few cute scenes with Jack which is one of my new favorite relationships. I adore them. I really wish this show had more quirky characters like my darling Office ones. Rachel and Tom were like the personification of that problem for me so I didn't care about them. Sark looked yummy? The slash was always sadly lacking on the show but Vaughn/Weiss and Vaughn/Sark were always my favorites (Jack and Sloane had potential but I just couldn't go there) so the end fight scene between the latter was fun.
But yeah, overall extremely disappointing finale. I tried as hard as I could to not expect much but it still leaves a bitter taste. I am going the pretend it never happened route but I just have to let out all my anger at it so I can get over it. The SpyRents are still insanely pretty and rule all. They were just too good for the writers. I'm thinking they found out where they lived and after seeing what they wrote this crap, took them all out but left it to air so everyone would think they were dead and they could live on their own SpyIsland of Love without anyone bothering them. And Sydney knows and visits with the family. Or they could go on more missions together again too with my ideal finale. So fuck this shit to the finale. I still love the show overall (again with the ignorance of the finale) and will hopefully make some vids for it sometime in the future. Because Sydney and Jack and Irina are too awesome to ever be destroyed.
My new desktop of pretty that makes everything beautiful and happy again:

Mmm SpyRents.
Now to watch vids! They make everything all better :D

But, er, I'm not going to get into that again.
So, yeah. I like to pretend that season five didn't exist, since the finale was purely on crack and I didn't really enjoy the rest of it a whole bunch either!
On the plus side, YAAAY THAT PICTURE. My brain just about exploded when I discovered that photoshoot. Oh, SpyRents! You were too beautiful for this world!!

There were enough good moments in S5 to make it happen for me. And the finale flashback were good too. I think I'm going with that it was all a dream that Sydney created down in the caves and that in reality, all of that crap never happened to Irena and my SpyFam is still all happy together.
I actually have to thank you for the picture! It definitely renders me speechless with the GUH of it all. I've been reading your Alias reactions on your LJ and they're always good to read :) I cannot agree more with you about the gloriousness of the SpyRents.

Agreed that Rambaldi turned out to be the flaw of the show. What was to me, at first, interesting, turned into a complicated non-sense, if you ask me. Kinda why I sometimes worry about the revelation we can get on Lost.
I think one of the problem is that they had to rush this ending because ABC shorted the season at the last minute so it can explain a lot. The Irina's death probably would have been more subtle or something.
As for the paradise island thing, even as I Syd/vaughn lover, I didn't see it as amazing at all. I was happy they were happy and happy to see the circle of spy never dies, but it felt a bit too much, for sure.

Yeah I thought it could be interesting as well but in the end there was no real payoff for it. I thought maybe they'd unlock some really cool invention or something. And yeah, I worry the same for Lost. If you promise big plot revelations, you better deliver them.
True but even that doesn't forgive the shoddy characterization. And it's good to know even a shipper wasn't really happy. Yay circle of spy!

And yeah, I mean, after they killed Vaughn, something just felt different about the show. It allowed some great drama fro Syd, but i think i got tired of the fake-death stuff. And so the ending was nice in a way, but also was kinda anti-climatic.

Very true! There's only so many fake deaths and doubles you can take.
lol
Yes, exactly! This sums it up so well. Oh, Alias...why couldn't you have had a kickass ending?

It actually inspired my favorite Alias ficcer (yahtzee63--her stuff is freaking awesome) to run a whole "bring back all the dead people" fic challenge. That was theraputic.
But the rest of it is awesome! *clings to rest, forgets stupid finale*
And? Jack DID NOT DIE. That is all.

Yeah this is definitely the case of forgetting all the bad and remembering the good. I really am just glad they didn't negate the past because I can't stand that.

It's a delicious account organized by like every tag imaginable. rheanna27 made it for her. :)
She wrote at least one epic per year following seasons 2, 3, and 4. And like a zillion other stories to boot.
Given your SpyRent love, I highly recommend "No For Yes" and also recommend "The Prophet's Right Hand."

For example, in my opinion, Irenicon works wonders on the wank they submitted Irina to in S3. Warning, though: it's apocafic, so she kills like everyone.
I do think it's possible you might like No for Yes even more, though, as it's basically canon SpyRents.

Well she's Irina, she's allowed to kill everyone lol. I can't wait to read it!
Yeah possibly. I need a (short) break from the pre and post betrayal stuff but I really want to read it. I'm sure it'll blow me away once again.
