Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win

The Office got 9 Emmy nominations! YAY!!! I am so happy and proud of everyone who works on the show. It's good to see the show get the recognition it deserves. And I am SO happy with the acting nominations :D Steve, Rainn and Jenna, it's the most perfect I could expect from the Emmys. First of all, RAINN WILSON got the supporting actor nomination!! OMG YAY! I totally screamed in happiness at that news. It is so good to see him recognized because he truly is an amazing actor and this season was Dwight's season to shine. It was great to see the show and Rainn go beyond the caricature and make him so three dimensional from his love of authority to his geekiness to his relationship with Angela (Traveling Salesman FTW) to his principles (The Negotiation FTW) to his sweet moments with Pam (Back From Vacation/The Job FTW!). If there is any beloved character now, it's gotta be Dwight and Rainn did an amazing job of showing why. Plus, he's really, really funny. And I have to say THANK GOD John Krasinki didn't get the nomination over Rainn Wilson as I would have been pissed. I'm sick of all the fangirl focus on him to the exclusion of Rainn (and everyone else) especially when he didn't even do much this season. So I had a nice MUAHAHA moment there even though it would have been nice to see them both nominated.

Also Jenna Fischer got a nomination YAY! I am so happy and so proud of her as she really deserves this award. She did such a great job with Pam's transition into Fancy New Beesley and Beach Games and The Job completely won me over to her character. It's good to see the Emmy's recognize an actress that isn't famous and a character that is more subtle that most. Also I'm so glad Steve got the nomination for Business School! He did an amazing job in that episode especially with the end which was emotionally magnificent and showed why I love Michael. I understand Steve not getting as much fanfare but if he hadn't been on the list, I would have been enraged with the snub so I am thankful I can be relatively happy with the Emmy nominations. I also loved seeing Gay Witch Hunt and The Negotiation get writing awards as I think both are strong, funny episodes that get ignored in the favor of *big* episodes. GWH in particular is a favorite of mine that cracks me up everytime. Also I'm happy for Ken Kwapis and the editing team whose contributions often get overlooked but are important nonetheless. The only thing I'm disappointed about is the cast not getting a casting award and Melora not getting nominated not to mention Angela but it's the Emmy's so whatever. Hopefully The Office will at least win a few of the awards as I don't trust the voters to recognize one of the best shows on earth even if there is some good competition (but not better).

First let's get the obvious negative out of the way: Where the FUCK is Friday Night Lights? Seriously. All the critics raved about it and all the episodes were beautifully acted, written and directed and it still didn't get anything? You suck, Emmys. Kyle and Connor should have at least gotten nominations and the show deserves to be on the Best Drama list. Also where is Michael C. Hall's nom for Dexter? It's not everyday that you root for a serial killer but a brillant acting has got to carry that off. It's so ridiculous how they always nominate the same old middle aged white guys everytime. At least they finally got Hugh Laurie on there who I'm rooting to win, of course.

Other good nominations include Heroes which I'm happy to see under Best Drama (although I don't think it should win with the sometimes cringeworthy dialogue), Masi Oka for supporting actor (YAY) and directing, editing, sound mixing, stunt work and special effects (for Five Years Gone!) noms. I'm so glad to see a Sci-Fi show get recognized so much. Which brings me to Battlestar Galactica which even though it got shut out of the main awards, still got directing, sound mixing, special effects and writing (!!!) noms. Better than nothing. I'm much more happy with the Emmy's comedy noms as they've got it right with The Office, 30 Rock and Ugly Betty getting all the main awards. Yay for Tina Fey, America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams especially who completely deserve it. Also even Scrubs was able to pick up directing, music direction, original music for the Poo song and Guy Love (yay!) and sound mixing for the musical episode which was fantastic. And Ricky Gervais got the lead actor nomination! It's good to see him recognized. Also I'm happy for Jeremy Piven and Neil Patrick Harris who are the only two actors on their respective shows to make me love their characters after only watching one episode. The only bad for comedy is Two and a Half Men which I'll let pass because of its ratings/famous name.

I am glad that Friday Night Lights did get a casting and directing nominations. I'll take the casting one as a concession to Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton who deserved to get best actor/actress noms. Also Dexter picked up a few awards that are well deserved with editing, main title sequence and music. Then there's Grey's Anatomy which although it does deserve a casting nomination and Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson and Kate Burton all deserve their noms, I don't know what crack the Emmy voters were smoking when they gave them the nomination for Best Drama. Look, GA is enjoyable but it's not high quality television. And this proves one of the great Emmy flaws in that only the popular shows win (or longrunning famous critically acclaimed drama's, no genre allowed). I think all the Emmy voters that voted for GA need to write an essay on why they think the show is better than Friday Night Lights because I doubt they could come up with much. And I'm not impressed with T.R and Katharine Heigel's awards which I'm sure are based partly on the Isiah Washington drama but whatever. And of course I can't forget The Daily Show and The Colbert Report which always deserve their nominations.

I predict The Office will win at least three awards. I'd love to see Steve win but Ricky Gervais and Alec Baldwin is tough competition with Tony Shaloub always being an Emmy voter favorite. I thought Alec Baldwin would win because of his famous name but with the bad publicity he's gotten, that may not be a good thing. I'm doubtful of Rainn and Jenna's chances but either win would make me ecstatic. I would love to see The Office win Best Comedy again but against 30 Rock and Ugly Betty it's going to be hard. I think The Office is better than both and it would disappoint me to see either win but if 30 Rock wins then maybe ratings would go up and if Ugly Betty wins it's definitely a good win for diversity and uniqueness. So I'd ultimately be okay with either win, I suppose. I think The Sopranos will win Best Drama since it was the final season. That's just the Emmy's for you as much as I wish it was based on whether the last season was better than all the rest.

I may actually make three LJ posts (so sorry for the Randy delay) today for the first time in a long time. But I'll be gone all day tomorrow and Saturday for work and HARRY POTTER (!!!) so there you go. And I'm watching Torchwood and there was actually two great plots in a row! I get quickly bored with alien cop procedural format, Captain Jack Hotness or not, so seeing two good episodes was wonderful (the Greeks one and Suzie who I actually liked in the pilot). I still am not sure if I'll be able to finish Farcape before VIVIDCON (so excited!) but I'm glad to hear about the new stuff coming to that and BSG. Have I mentioned the 7th Harry Potter book is coming out tomorrow and I haven't been spoiled yet? CANNOT WAIT!

I really, really agree about John vs. Rainn. I did not want John to get nominated, and Rainn really deserved it. Win-win-win.

Steve must win. I don't think I can stomach another year of Tony Shaloub taking that stupid thing, and I just can't stand Alec Baldwin. If Steve loses to Ricky Gervais, well, okay. I can deal. But anyone else? Nooo.

Yes, exactly. Rainn completely deserves it and I really do hope he wins. Same with Steve. It would be nice to have someone different win the lead comedy actor for once and Steve is an amazing, deserving and genuinely awesome actor who wins me over everytime.

I'm so beyond thrilled for Jenna getting a nomination. I knew that if any year was going to be her year, this would be it. And I agree that Rainn totally deserves it as well. I think John's a fine actor, but last season was more about Jim's storyline, so I think it makes sense that he wasn't recognized. Plus, it's so hard with so many great cast members. I thought Melora or Angela deserved nominations as well, but I'm definitely happy with the nine they got.

I know! This was definitely Jenna and Rainn's year and the Emmy's finally got that right. And I agree that if John should have won it, it would have been last year. And all the great cast acting just makes me even more glad they won the SAG award to recognize it.

Great news :D

Gay Witch Hunt and The Negotiation were my fave episodes for LOL moments, so well deserved.
And I agree with Rainn's well deserved nomination. I ♥ Dwight to bits!!!
I hope they take home the trophies !!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they definitely had some hilarious moments. In fact, I think I'm going to go watch GWH again. The QaF reference is always love not to mention the gaydar scene. Dwight/Rainn definitely deserve all the love and honors in the world. Let's hope it'll happen! You never know...

Yay the Office! ITA agree about FNL and Dexter though. Especially FNL - God can that show never catch a break?

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I know. It's so disappointing with NBC still not doing much to help it and the lack of Emmy nominations certainly isn't going to help. I hope the continued good reviews and outrage at the snubs will keep it alive.

I was super excited about Jenna's nomination too. And Rainn's. And Steve's. I'm mostly just really excited. Even though I, like you, have some doubts about their chances. Jenna was every part of amazing this season and as much as I love John, I too was very happy that Rainn got some recognition. He's be so freakishly fantastic. Dwight was one of the only characters that I consistently loved in every single episode in S3, and I think Rainn had much to do with that.

The writer's nominations were well deserved as well. GWH is always LOL-able. I die every time Dwight gaydars himself, and it has one of my favorite cold opens.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's all so exciting! Dwight was consistently lovable and LOL funny all season and Rainn's facial expressions and actions play a huge part in it. Plus when you see the bloopers and Rainn's improv, you can see just how funny he is.

It's always great to see the talented writers on The Office get awards. We place a lot of importance on the actors but in the end it's the writers (most of the time) who write all the brilliant lines. And yeah, Dwight using the gaydar never fails to make me laugh.

Congrats to The Office. Here's hoping it wins for Best Comedy Series! Also, I'm happy for Steve Carell and Jenna Fischer, of course. But who am I happiest for? Rainn Wilson! Dwight is, and always will be, by favourite Dunder-Mifflinite. He's comic gold and he always makes me laugh. If he doesn't win, I don't know what I'll do (who is he up against?).

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
It'd be awesome to defend our title and prove once again that The Office is the best. Although it still is whether it wins or now. I'm happiest for Rainn as well. He's so amazing and has won the hearts and laughter of so many people with Dwight. He's got some good competition with Jeremy Piven, Neil Patrick Harris, another guy from Entourage and some guy from Two and a Half Men. The first two are obviously who I'm scared of but at least if they win, be assured they are both worthy of the award (although I still think Rainn is the best).

[identity profile] mozartfan1313.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
OH! Two people were nominated for Entourage? Yay! I love Jeremy Piven (but he won last year so he probably won't again this year). Was the other Entourage guy named Kevin Dillon? Please say yes! lol.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yes :) Generally Emmy voters stay the same each year so that's why I wouldn't count Jeremy Piven out. You never know with them.

[identity profile] mayonegg.livejournal.com 2007-07-28 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sick of all the fangirl focus on him
Ugh, TOTALLY. The intense focus on John makes me dislike him a lot. (If the fangirls weren't there I'd dislike him less.) I don't find his acting as good as everyone makes it out to be. I see way too much of John while watching Jim.

Where the FUCK is Friday Night Lights? Seriously. All the critics raved about it and all the episodes were beautifully acted, written and directed and it still didn't get anything? You suck, Emmys. Kyle and Connor should have at least gotten nominations and the show deserves to be on the Best Drama list. I agree completely! I was pissed when I saw it was virtually no where on the list.

Look, GA is enjoyable but it's not high quality television. ... I think all the Emmy voters that voted for GA need to write an essay on why they think the show is better than Friday Night Lights because I doubt they could come up with much. You're so right! I'd love to see those essays; I bet they'd be hilarious!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
So sorry about the lateness but yeah, I'm still not liking JKrasmuch because of all the fangirls. It's sad really.

Poor FNL :( But the Emmys have already proved they're idiots. Still waiting on those essays!

[identity profile] mayonegg.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries! :)

I would like to see who would win if (good) critics were the ones to pick the nominees. I think it would be very interesting.
