My show(s) are back!

It was so incredibly awesome for yesterday to finally be Office Day once more. So good to have three more of my shows back. Now three more to go and it'll be perfect.

Okay I have to preface this by saying I love my show and the character and relationships but this episode really is not why I truly love The Office. I'm not surprised by it, Gene and Lee also wrote Women's Appreciation Day which is one of my least favorite Office eps. The character assassination of Jan was continued and my breakup with seeing eye to eye with The Office when it comes to Jan and M/J was even more prominent. The thing is, I just can't identify or relate or love what they do with that relationship or Jan and in order to maintain my love and not care so much, I have to distance myself. Not to mention it was much more using awkward situations, making fun of *crazy* people (not that I think Jan is crazy but she's coded as such) and lots of cringe worthy situations. One of my favorite parts of The Office US which distinguishes it from the original is that it doesn't resort to that much and truly loves the characters and is great at having me identify with them while still making it really, really funny with smart humor. The crazy may be funny once but it wears off veeery quickly, at least for me while the smaller, character humor makes me laugh no matter how many times I've seen the episode. I also am more of a fan of seeing the entire office and having more of an office family. Not that I don't enjoy episodes out of the office, I love the characters and adore them wherever they are. That being said, I still enjoyed the episode and laughed during it. It definitely did have it's moments.

Just seeing my Office characters in the beginning made me so happy. Dwight, Phyllis, Kelly, Jim, Stanley, Toby, Kevin! Oh Michael, he definitely set up the dinner party well. Poor Dwight having to see Andy and Angela. I love Dwight's talking head which reminded me of Gay Witch Hunt in contrast. I've never been so happy to hear The Office theme song :) Aww Jim and Michael hug! Too long Michael and Pam hug, hee. Love the wine to cook with. The babe references seemed very fake and designed to make the relationship look normal and sweet while being anything but below. One of the things I disliked about the episode was the very little continuation from the last weeks episode which was pretty big for Michael and Jan. It felt for me like they were covering up the ramifications from that so I'll go with it. The difference between this tour and the Email Surveillance was really apparently with the more formal, awkward and trying to look good nature of this one. "Work in progress" pretty much seems to describe the Michael and Jan relationship for me although I don't see the writers really taking it very seriously much any more (I'd be bitter but I have disconnected mostly). Workspace, hee. Candles, wtf?! Starting a business makes sense but I can't see the old Jan at ALL in this. Serenity reminded me of Firefly though so I will pretend (?) that it's a shout out to the movie. Jan's doodles diss was an ouch though, hehe. LOL to Jim's face to the camera.

Oh, Michael. I just feel so badly for him trying to keep up a funny and happy face to Jim and Pam. His outfit was just so unlike him in trying to fit into the Norman Rockwell father and husband facade. Egg shell white, LOL. Oh god, a camera. The small bed? Gah that was way too sad and depressing. Love the super small plasma TV, hee. Aww Pam opening up a little with Jim's failings. DUNDIES! That was a priceless callback. "Aside from my dundies" hee. Dundie love forever! I LOVED Angela's repeated No's to Michael, hilarious and great character love. And tuna for dinner :) Oh, Andy I adore him with his flowers. Love how they manipulate them into saying longer. I did really miss the lack of talking heads. I love how they brought back Hunter and his utterly hilarious CD and horrible music. And Andy singing to it! One of my favorite parts of the episode. Jan twirling Jim was too appropriate in an inappropriate way. Love Angela speaking badly of Pam, hee. "At a dinner party" heh. "Let's see how uncomfortable we can make our guests. And they're both winning." LOL and too true especially if you replace guests with audience.

I love how Pam makes Jim stay even when he tries to get out of it. Suck it, Jim. They're so adorable with their faces. I love how Angela sucks at pop culture knowledge and Jim messing with poor Michael. Jan's mean look at Pam was hilarious and reminiscent of Fun Run. Awwww Michael running into the sliding glass door for the ice cream was the saddest and most adorable Michael moment. It's so him in how he can be like a kid. The can't say sue me was a good callback to The Deposition and Cocktails comments. The "in hell" comment was more true than Michael tried to make it sound :( I LOVE Angela's "You shouldn't joke about that", hee. It reminds me again why Dwight and Angela are so right for each other with Dwight not wanting anyone to *joke* or mess with his sacred text, Harry Potter (don't say He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!) I wish there had been more Angela in the episode. Hehe love Pam's what? Pam dating Michael LOL. Oh, Michael. And Angela backing it up! Hahaha I love her. OMG chair hands! Arrested Development shout out much?

Dwight shows up! I knew he would. Pam's wonder saying "awesome" is perfect. Jim's face was perfect. I liked how they brought up kids but the vasectomies? What is up with them and changing their bodies for each other? Argh. The kid thing for Jan makes sense as she doesn't seem stable with Michael which is an understatement. Awww to Michael still really wanting to have kid. LOL at Dwight still asking about coming in after that. Beet salad! Oh Dwight and Angela. Poison just sounds like their relationship right now *sigh* "But if she was going to poison someone at that table, wouldn't it be me? Michael's former lover." LOL niice talking head. I love Dwight in the smaller chair below Michael. Dwight's sparkle motion babysitter lol! "It's purely carnal that's all you need to know." Dwight is too funny. "Email?" *loves* Michael trying to reassert himself with the sign was even more painful to watch. BFD screenwriter! Love the two callbacks. I love how Michael's definition of rich is skewed. "You're hardly my first...THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" LOL LOVE. So perfect. You know? Dwight's casual dismissal of his childhood babysitter (lol wtf) kind of reminds me of Jim and Katy when he so easily dismissed her when he was all about Pam.

Poor Dwight being pushed away by the police officers. "Threw a dundie at my TV", how funny does that sound. Aww Dwight inviting Michael home, "You're sleeping with me", hee. He has no idea how he sounds. "Fire...flood" niice. I love Jim and Pam saying babe to each other in the Michael and Jan way. Very cute eating together. I feel with the Dundies they were trying to call back to that episode but well, this was like the saddest montage ever while The Dundies was uplifting. Jan trying to glue back the Dundie like their relationship was even sadder.

So yeah, not my favorite episode and not one I'll be watching a lot. It feels like Michael and Jan took a BIG step back from Money to a bad combination of crazy!Jan and treating Michael bad Jan from Women's Appreciation. I don't know what Jan will do next because they've given the writers free reign to make her as off the wall as they want. Showcasing an episode that is all about what I think is the current biggest flaw of The Office was just not an episode designed to appeal to me. But it's my show and I'm glad it's back! I just hope the next episodes are more in the style of The Office I know and love.

I also enjoyed Scrubs and 30 Rock but don't have much to say about them other than the fact that Cox is awesome. Yay for my comedies being back!

I did think some of the awkwardness was more due to simmering animosity between Jan and Michael over The Deposition, rather than a craziness on Jan's part.

"You're hardly my first...THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" LMAO! he just can't help himself, even in the middle of an argument.

So, do you think Jan slept with Hunter? I'm mighty suspicious with the way she held herself and swayed to his music.

My Dwight/Angela love is growing by the minute :D

Yeah I can see that. But I'd like to see it acknowledged more directly.

Hee, I know! I wouldn't be able to either. Not sure about Jan and Hunter but I prefer to believe no until proven otherwise. I can see a crush though.

I think she might have, just judging by the lyrics of Hunter's song and the way she danced to it-- "You took me by the hand/ made me a man...One night/ you made everything all right". Sounds like a one night stand to me. *Shudders*

Yeah I guess...I just hate to think about it. The writers leave it open to interpretation so at least there's that.

That is very true. They said it was about Jan, but not necessarily about a one-night-stand.

I friended you here too.

I agree with your view of Dinner Party (which was very unfortunate coming back after such a long break). I have been really, really disappointed with the way Jan has been written for the last season or so. There were some great moments with Pam, Jim, Michael, Angela, and Andy, but that wasn't enough for me to enjoy the episode. I have a definite preference for episodes that primarily take place in the office or are work related (ie Traveling Salesmen which I loved).

Yeah same here. I have had to disconnect a lot with Jan's portrayal in order to still love the show a lot but it's only one big flaw for now. Having that be displayed for a whole episode was not helpful. Thankfully it was only one episode.
