Vividcon 2011 Vid Review Notes

Here are my Vid Review notes (Vid Review, In Depth, Challenge) for Vividcon 2011. I did my best at hearing and typing as accurately as I could but sometimes people had quiet voices or I couldn't type fast enough so these are not perfect transcriptions. If you see something and want it corrected (or credit), feel free to let me know as I'd love for it to be more accurate.

Vid Review
Gremlins
-Wish the last clip was a bit more but other than that, it was great
-Hilarious, cutting was much better at the end, it was cutting on the beat but it cut to punchlines too soon and didnt use the beat to highlight big actions
-there was nothing on the squak that was hilarious
-I appreciate a vid in a show like this and the vidder understood that and it fit the song much better than I expected
It's the End of the World as We Know It
-I like Community and loved it
-Started off strong but then it just wouldn't end, cut really fast and hard to keep track of the characters
-Haven't seen Community but I enjoyed it on a visual level, heard this song a lot, shocked by how much I really enjoyed it
-Didn't use enough of the music, vidder cut so much so they didn't use internal motion, seemed it was cut so fast but it needed both paths for the music
-It wouldn't be a thing of needing longer clips, you can jump up, cut back to something else, cut back to landing even if not in the same jump
-Vid wasn't ending, problem with physical comedy vids, once we got the joke, we got the joke, after that it takes away from how funny the vid is, i liked it, it was funny
-I love the show but I get tired of Community vids, its all the same joke with all the same Community vids, most of the time its look at these people and how wacky they are
-As I was watching, I thought about big emotion vids, need to build for it, this song is an uphill slog to vid, it starts huge, its hard to go somewhere with the song, slows down a little but then comes back, frantically paced, hard to work with without feeling tired, I can hear people enjoying it but I couldnt feel it since I didnt watch the show
-"It needed more apocalypse" needed more paintball
-Liked the video but wanted more emotional content, time I had some time alone you can use the emotional aspect and wanted more of that at the end so its not just about the crazy hijinks, its about the moments and connects, I wanted more to bring it through for me
I Honestly Love You
-I really liked this vid, it felt so old school slash, its all about their love, its hard not to laugh, kurt's batting his eyelashes, its so heartfelt, i love glee and this is not a pairing i would go for, earnest, heart on its sleeve, it made me feel
-if theres a character that can sell this song, its kurt
-uses all the old clips and brings it in love with just friends, without sex at the end
-This vid managed to sell me olivia newton john, he's Sandy thats why it works, its the perfect song for the character, it's his inner voice
-this is an old fashioned character study, i love the fact the pacing was meticulously well done, you had your build, you had your crescendo
-anoel is very good at vidding with limited clips
-Talked about laughing but the characters brings that because he brings the theatrical quality, old school brings that, he brings the aria, the opera, we take his body language funny, the laughter if friendly, were laughing with, rare operatic character, allows to make vid like mary van deusen used to make, like Temper of Revenge that we don't get so much
Cold War
-wanted to love this vid, in a HP place right now, hard to get past the song
-Liked the song with this, liked the vid if it had been ?, loved song choice and loved the beginning of this
-the logo was distracting because its pure white, it wouldnt be the same problem online, with dark footage and dark room, I couldn't help looking at watermark throughout the vid, make it grey or dont put the watermark, do keep in mind for a show like this that pure white will glare
-I need to rewatch to see what its saying, the song is so upbeat, the beat is making me want to dance and the visuals are stills, slow, angry man, after I listened to the words, I liked the tone of the songs but the crazy dance beats didnt match
-we wished the vidder had waited until the last movie, we saw some clips from the trailer and we feel it could have been stronger with the source, could you have waited a year
-I was confused, I hadn't read the summary, I thought it was the war from Snape's perspective, I guess it's not
-I thought there was more Snape, I expected the same from the 6th movie
-I didn't see the dissonance, it was Snape telling Harry how it is in kind of a preachy way
Dance with the Angels
-I thought this was gorgeous, talking did not work at all, too close to lyrics that were too clear, too distracting between dialogue and lyrics
-Talking pulled me out of the vid, I've done it in an earlier vids, understand to guide viewer, wanted to see it without dialogue, quite lovely, lot of beauty in this vid
-liked "that's the last time you called me a whore" dialogue, liked that, heard it clear
-whore quote didnt work because inara was called that after she said it...
-Only knew firefly so need to see the vid again, whore quote, after that figured it out and now I need to see it again
-structure felt a little muddy but dont know if it was my unfamiliarity with the source
-I knew all the source, wanted there to be more, lives are parallel but the vid never went past that
-Knew all sources except one, it doesn't build, does the same thing repeatedly, empowerment of women yay, not my thesis but its yours, but the men are treating them as degrading it because of this but theres no transition to it
-I wanted more build, I wanted a clearer structure, I liked the 1,2,3,4 shots of each, knew it was about these four characters, could easily see parallels
-Saw it for the 2nd time, becomes clearer on the second time, watching it at home I have more control over viewing, found more of an arc, saw a sequence of issues raised in vid, theres a section with the dialogue you could hear, dialogue worked when you could hear it, it seemed clear that the women were sex workers, it said just because i service you, you dont own me
Carmelo
-What I really liked about this vid, it took me half a minute to realize it was Miami Vice, it took it out of the past and into the future and then figured out it was street workers, almost first time see women characters instead of male leads, enjoyed the whole thing, realized omg its Miami Vice, its marvelous
-what is this amazing 80s cop show, where they fight crime and hug, then I saw Sonny and was like OMG, i felt it was an AU, interracial cop show, took this from an AU where its the girl power show that was never on, that should of existed, I imagine a whole world with this show
-thank the vidder for characters I completely forgot existed
I Should Know
-I had trouble with the pov of the song, i didnt know if it was older wiser john talking to younger john
-I was just happy to see Farscape on the screen
-I'm really glad I saw the setting show/panel, good job of setting the place, to show space to show where we are
-I thought the characters were introduced really well
-I've never seen it but heard talk about it, saw pairing focused, good for someone who doesnt know farscape, makes me care and want to see it
-I liked it, thought it was interesting to focus on s1, you should watch the show and why its show, knowing what we know, the setup that it does, i enjoyed those parts of the vid
-the part in my head where my heart swooped, where the chain unraveled, someones touching something, someones taking something, if you want to hold on to something, you have to let it go
All I Do Is Dream
-two muscicians, we found it so painful it was hard to figure out what was happening
-I loved this so much I got flappy hands, I loved this more than the movie by a factor of about 10, grave song choice but totally successful, found all the interesting things, became 10 times more interesting
-first 20 seconds thought there was an audio problem, then realized it, dreaming but theres always something off
-vid worked for me, knew it was intentional because deejay had made it, felt like more than inception vid, made minutes..?
-if you listen to mashups, autotune helps, that killed me with audio differences
-I liked it, the song is corrupted, the dream is corrupted, because it was messed up, it was part of the narrative for me except for the high pitched voices
-supposed to find it unpleasant to listen to, fantastic for inception, more of a twist, something to happen at the end, I was waiting for titanic, breakthroughs of visual to match breakthroughs of audio, pushed the vid up once more level I wanted
-key change was very important, layers in dreaming, the dissonance was where are we now, is it still the same dream or another level
-dissonance was important, volume changed so drastically tha it was hard to listen to, use some audio leveling to make it less painful
You Told the Drunks I knew Karate
-Rory *heart heart heart*
-I really like this vid because I love Rory, my one issue because it was maybe a trio vid and then it ended up being just Rory/Amy, otherwise I loved it a lot
-I really loved this vid, perfectly encapsulates Rory's character, bad things kept happening and he kept getting back up
-Might get me to watch the show, doctor is too smart but hes a gateway into the show
-Love this, little hearts over it, well executed, smartly cut, good variations of clips throughout, interesting to get ambivalence at the doctor, perfectly executed
Eric's Song
-I massively read X-Men comics, absolute opening shot of the coin told me exactly what was going to happen, what this is emotionally about, swastika is a powerful thing, and now this is an xmen vid without saying that
-wish they had waited for good source that came out after, cant see the satellite dish, other part of that is I felt there wasnt enough of the past movies, enough of it that I kept waiting for more, felt the moments it was used was very nice, wanted more of it
-song choice was absolute beautiful, loved the song, thought of emotion panel, first three things was biggest emotional scenes, dont blow wad too scene, now heres everything I love too soon
-With quality issues, wish the other scenes were more flashback
Lost Girl: Character Preview
-We have a recruiter vid, we never get those, how many people now want to watch? hands up
-I am very spoiled by vids that we tend to get in premieres, i felt it beat me over the head, recruited vid for people who are already in the fandom, cute and sexy but on and on, beat over the head
-sort of agree because I'm pre-recruited, loved the kenzi voice over's, it didnt hit what I loved but then it didnt hit them until 2/3 of the way through
-I liked being beat over the head, it helps me to understand
-one thing that bothered me was the voiceover part, liked the text clues, additional voiceover, show don't tell, it was too much
-for me, dialogue actually worked
-text was really jarring because I wanted the visuals to tell me all I need to know but on a vidding aesthetic level, I wish they hadn't been there
-I'm not usually for text/voiceover but I would have introduced them differently, first bo and then kenzi versus back and forth, stronger for her to be voiceover and then at the end
-I'm from thick skull crowd, if it started 2/3 the way through, needed a while to understand the visuals and then the end was just them having fun, it helped sell it, this is why you should watch
-I like the misspellings, the lolcats worked for me in this vid
Growin' Up
-As someone who doesn't know the source or didn't recognize it, it felt too long for me, it was following some canon plot I don't know, looked iconic at first but not later
-I don't know the source either, it worked, it told the source's journey, girl growing into an adult, telling her story
Welcome Home
-I spent a lot of vid trying to find out where we were going, didnt know where I was being moved to, very emotional, figured out FNL vid, realized it was a community vid, all the things that go into building the community, i see simple as football but its more complex for these people
-I loved this vid like pie and ice cream on top, I love this show and I love it partly because of the chosen family and family family aspects, hit all of my buttons, found how people are where their home is, the other people become their home, song choice was perfect, ensemble nature loved it, A++ would watch again
-haven't seen the show, kind of confused through vid but emotions went through, didn't understand what they were going through
-I've been watching since 1st season, one of my favorite moments was cutting between Vince and Matt, yes I love these parts and then it hit sad places, hit all emotional parts of the show
-Ensemble vids for shows I dont watch but felt vidders emotional connection so felt by proxy
-Seen a few episodes of FNL, loved song so loved vid, sense I got from it, you have all these people with deep emotional issues and because theyre in texas they play football instead of talking about them
House By the Sea
-Never seen the show, not for me, I loved this, I thought it was beautiful, also thought this was completely transparent, I knew who they were, it laid out the whole story perfectly
-If the show had been sold to me this way, I would have watched the show, beautiful and elegant, even with harsh images
-Very violent, cartoony show, I liked the vidder held that back, it gave the end more of a punch, the movement around and within the clips, i liked the speeding up, slowing down
-Completely okay to me, hard to parse the images, now seeing it in this environment, I am drawn in, putting this after fnl vid, lot of characters, changing very fast, emotional depth
-Wonderful way to vid a less familiar source, felt like Laura and Killa, didnt feel the narrative came through but getting there was pleasurable enough that you dont need to
-I do know this source, I love it to pieces, its stunningly beautiful, house is a place and the 2nd, 3rd is where i got the wow from the vid, crawling back through the sand towards his love, this is the vid im going to watch 20 times
-This is the best parts of the vid, no severed heads
Kiss With a Fist
-This is not a subtle vid...or a subtle song
-I was a huge LoM fan back in the day, this made me happy and nostalgic, forgot how much gene punches people, made me happy
-Seen this song a lot, debate around it, in vids, and yet i still love the beginning, really effective, its so funny
-Slightly distracted, it was very clear at first and then throughout and then it was gene punching and then i kept waiting for sam to do it
-generally when I see a LoM vid, i expect something deep and moody vids, it was nice not to see that, it helped articulate but hadnt thought it through, slash likes to repurpose a lot of violence for slash
-because ive seen a lot of vids to this song, i felt there was a timing issue, in a show like LoM, could use some less than literal hits and punches, vid felt flat for me, could have been funny and had more depth
-as a slasher, found it a little too long, beginning was so intimate and then they started punching other people, it was infidelity, are they breaking up? you dont punch me anymore, i was concerned maybe they had a giant polyamorous, concerned theyre hitting others
-all I know is the master likes to hit people, even with that, this vid read very static and then very horizontal, it wasnt very vertical, even with the walking and eyelines, it was very horizontal, not sure if it was conscious
-maybe becuaase of the 70s homage feel?
Sister, I Need Wine
-I love SFU, my all time favorite, havent found a Brenda/Billy vid, one of the best vids of the show, loved the incorporation of the nathaniel and isabel book, i almost wanted the vid to be longer, love the pairing and wanted to see where it goes in the future, loved to see this in show
-ending felt abrupt, wasnt sure if i was supposed to feel because i know billy felt like that
-didnt know it, saw bipolar vid, had therapist friend..then tried to rape her, stopped watching...would have liked content notes
-vid opened with bipolar, i have mental health issues so this is fascinating, it was engaging and now this hard to watch, some things are hard to watch but needs to be watched, glad it was made
-appreciated the title cards, dont know SFU, keyed into sibling relationship, when he tried to kiss her i was like ugh...ended abruptly
May I Suggest
-I dont think I've sen a vid make that many people cry
-even if youve never seen Up, you get the emotion, you get his heroes journey, you get the love, you understand him losing her, you feel the genuine emotion and loss, i watched this before, shared emotional experience, sooo severely beautiful, waves crashing the sand...(everyone starts to cry again in Vid Review)
-I wanted the movie to be about Ellie
-Thank you for making it about Ellie and not about childbearing and lack thereof, liked all the emotions without that
-Really appreciated after I finished the vid was the transparency of the editing, usually see iconic moment, not noticing oh thats a beautiful cut, editing felt completely in service to story and emotion, artistry of its own sort to make it so transparent
-Did you expect a room full of crying people?
-I cant imagine anyone to not cry but for this year a lot of people were thinking about Sandy
-I was less affected so I spent a lot of the vid trying to figure out if these were kids in a flashback and couldnt figure it out and then the house took off with all the balloons and this was really cool and then the pins were oh no and there was a sense of deep forboding, all the balloons were going to pop
Roll with the Changes
-I love this vid so much I cant even speak about, I love the music in the movies, when i found it was was REO i was dubious but it worked well, this vid had scope and I love scope, I loved that, I love the female character so much, i dont draw hearts much but I did for this
-super accessible vid, did a really nice job at being aesthetic pleasing, happy vid helped
-moment i saw animation, i started feeling emotional again
-oh no, not again with moment in it, i would have died
-REO was inspired choice, never would have thought but i loved it so much
-it was about my dog, my dog didnt break my foot, he was trying to save me from evil dragon squirrel
You've Got a Friend
-I love both these characters, the vid didnt necessarily capture how amazing their relationship is, they're brothers, the amount of stuff the show puts them through, we didnt see that so we dont know how important the bond is
-this is troublesome, i didnt think the clips were there to support the song, the color palette of the show didnt fit the music, the aesthetics didnt match, it was little problematic
-it was totally wrong in that aesthetic sense, the show was too gritty, needed more sense of relationship lasting, tough song despite the fact that it seems simple
Wil Wheaton's Been Busy
-I could cope with YT video but wished for better audio even if it doesnt exist
-this didnt work for me on a lot of levels, wanted it to because i love song and will but the main thing was the focus is on all the live appearance so it becomes a travelogue on his face, i love follow the actor vids but we needed to have wil working: big bang, leverage, etc, those interspered would have gone to next level
-love the concept, need more footage of what he is and who hes doing and not just YT stuff, one of the things we get in TV is we get the closeup and that does a lot of the hard work for us and with the youtube shots, people use camcorder so its hard to get a good read on facebook expressions, would have allowed us some of the work
-before intermission, wil wheaton is going to save us, enjoyed the heck out of this vid because the tone was so upbeat and charming, dont pay attention to his travels, boys been making the rounds
-one of my favorite vids, worked that we never saw him work, its not he doesnt love you, hes just busy but hes not busy because he is doing all these things so it made it funny
-in the vid, heard clapping and i got confused and started clapping but it pulled me out of the vid
-enjoyed it immensely, glad theres no footage of his working, would have changed the vid, if you showed them working, are they the character or actor and you have to see the actor speaking to see it, loved the ending of the recursive shirt
-additonal ways of seeing his work, key to see persona, vid could have established that earlier, maybe his blog, shots of his books, cover, etc to give full array, all the things he does to be the undersecretary of geekdom
-I didnt need him working but standing at the podium in midrange shot was too similar, wanted zoom in, liked stills
-Like the applause in the middle, wrote narrative in there, live recording in credits, at that moment jonathan coulton and wil wheaton were on stage
We Rule The World
-No idea of audio sync in the vid, when did My Little Pony become awesome, this is a show I need to see
-I wanted to say that the vid was a little too long, I wanted some of the cutting, because of animation, cutting was too fast, eye was doing a lot of work, by the end it was losing me
-I have a hard time engaging with MLP because their faces arent expressive *laughter*
-I wasn't crazy about song choice because the song matched too well, wanted a stronger song or contrasting song, wanted I'm on a Boat, became very professional, could be on the show
-There are COLORS, there are ones that zoom and fly and unicorns are way more awesome and then things went fast
-Good song choice because all MLP because its all rap and metal and i think it was cool to see something different
Feel It In My Bones
-Im so glad VVC has made me cool with the brother thing, theyre kissing in the vid, this is so hot, didnt you guys see it? theyre vampires so its okay
-I dont watch the show but at this one point they look like theyre together and then this girl is breaking them apart, so maybe a trio and apparently theres two threesomes
-I cant watch TVD but i like brothers in that way, good in a pelvic standpoint and in a vidding standpoint, I was like growl
-Same actress? I thought it was one of those Hollywood things where everyone looks the same (laughter)
-The relationship is structured so it doesnt matter if its Elena or Katherine, they play around in the same way
-Gave up the show but liked the mirroring relationship and will now watch it
Don't Forget Me
-I really enjoyed this vid a lot, Riley is hardly an overvidded character, overidentify with floppy haired Midwestern grad student with a crush on Buffy, liked who he loves and feels hes not loved by, emotionally smart vid
-Wasn't aware this was a need I had in my life, then realized I had that need and had it fulfilled, im an iowa boy, i felt bad for him, compressed it so that it was emotionally effective
-I came away with much more respect for Riley as a character, I love how the vidder took fotage ive seen and i asked where the hell did that come from, didnt know what was happening in the very last section, had bad bsg flashbacks, need to see the end of it again, wanted it to end right at the end and not 6th season
-thought I was alone as a Riley ending, I like the ending, liked the titles, basically Buffy becomes Riley and thats how when she becomes, "im a notion in your bedroom" i really liked it
-because we havent seen a lot of Riley vids, we see it from riley's pov, to have pov switched, it makes you see it in another way, repeated shots of buffy turning away you dont realize it because you identify with her, oh man riley it sucks to be you
This Must Be the Place
-I liked that we had both an ensemble and then jeff winger in midst of rest realizing hes just as crazy, this is the unemotionally unattached
-loved both show and song and hit happy button, hes a douche but i identify with him in this, weird stuff is happening, i think its weird too, but love the home together
-one of my favorite songs, ive seen other vids before, this helped show me why i should care, gave me a narrative, showed me why I should care, I connected and enjoyed it
-like the introduction of him, liked how it starts with everyone reading? him because everyones there for jeff
-i liked the titles and it helped in con environment
Sit Down By the Fire
-I watched first 9 episodes and was bored but loved the vid, makes it so interesting, should have watched the rest
-I loved this vid completely, vid of the con for me, great character study, david is the fire for jack, hes the scary part, annointed part, going to be the next king, song choice was so gorgeous
-the narrative was so strong in it, knew who the character was, as it progressed it was the struggle of finding his place in the dynasty of the world
-got a sense of scope and emotional tone, not sure how many pretty young white guys there was
-If lyrics are strong can fade other lyrics, the she lines are hardest, his mother was less of a presence, she put shots of both mother and father in that line that made it work
-didnt know the source or fandom, strong archetypes of western civ so I understood the general narrative
I Walked
-hard to choose songs for historical fandoms but this song choice worked so hard, worked with editing, style of editing, made visually mismatch work, contemporary sound worked, very strong narrative, captured ambiguity, loved start of vid, but after the middle unraveled a little, loved after you see her talking, then shes not there as much and you loser her, who was the nun, loved the editing, all the jerky clips were good in the beginning
Session
-pretty good job of what the miniseries is about
-love the miniseries, felt like this didnt give me stuff to hang on, its a lot of people walking, so much that happens visually, it would have amped up the tension of the vid, i wanted more
-most effective story of what theyre not allowed to run in newspaper
-heretics who watched the remake but not miniseries, recognize the british actors worked not on a narrative level but liked the urgency of the song, fast cuts, visually interesting
Muder on the Dance Floor
-loved the song choice, its about murder but its a dance song but its very sherlock, loved it and the ending was funny, colors in the background was awesome
-font style of the credits is similar to it on the show, very cool
-favorite shot is when sherlock takes the pill bottle and then does the travolta, pose and travolta moment, think along those disco lines
One Foot Wrong
-so fucking fabulous, 4 different women in one body, shown so clearly, put together dancing woman, bouncy woman, staggering crazy woman, catwoman
-crystal clear pov, favorite vid in premiere, character is rarely vidded (and movie) but she was fantastic
Hold On
-glad it was celebratory vid and not a sad vid
-i had prepared myself for crying after up but was so happy it was so Sarah Jane, this was the best way to end with happy
-visual aesthetics was very different with past tv, can come across as cheesy but in this vid it was nostalgic and charming, ive never watched and yet I'm in love
-best tribute to her and her life and how she lived it and i was so happy to see it
-this song is one of my favorites, as soon as the opening bars started it was so perfect for her, who she was before, clear transition to her becoming a doctor and her life not ending at 40

In Depth Vid Review
High Voltage
-Oh. My. God. Motherfuckers.
-The Ancients screwed up a lot, everything turns for what these people started
-Incredible song choice, how did this get from here to there but oh of course, she completely works with the lyrics, incredibly effective
-she had a throughline of what ancients storyline could have been and took puzzle pieces together, the better you understand the lyrics, the more you get the pov, shows Daniel's struggle for ascendency, shows what they are versus what we are
- a lot of SGA vids are funny, cute, theres gritty realism in all the shows and finally see how hard their lives must have been without even realizing
-I'm happy you made it, my excitement can be measured very small, didnt get the narrative, got the epicness, image that represents the vid is the transparent universe, humans are very small, incredible impression of i have no idea whats happening but its important (thuvia)
-my problem with stargate vids is they are so static but here it looks amazing, really interesting narrative and gorgeous, combination is what makes it epic
-Impressed with Stargate and rap used nonironically
-Compliment the intricate musicality and use instrumentality without losing the music
-so fast driving, can easily be flash, cut, cuts, used certain images to punctuate, helped anchor
-Watched everything and say you fuckers about the ancients and needed this vid to get this expression of it, hit hard all the beats, i bring you up and then bring you down, when heard that was like ohh, amongst big things that was touched on as well
-Hit the ancient's arrogance, enough to follow the argument, in midst of motion oriented, building an intellectual audience, shorthandling FU, carefully constructs all the corruptions of the ancients that do so much damage that is their essential arrogance of what they chose to be and beat their culture around so when you get the repulicants and snake people people and ori?, the explicity antagonists that came out of the corruption of what the ancients intended, it highlights how their intentions were fucked to begin with, effective and smart
-seen enough to know the premise, dont know about the ancients, got that magic and technology being the same thing and the effect it has, got that ancients didnt effect stargate but thats apparently flawed, this tech that is not ours becomes a driving force in our society, saw jack being in the vid a lot who is not a technological character
-it was all blended so seamlessly, i dont remember that scene, must be from SGU, appreciated that it was connected enough narratively and aesthetically even when I know they look different from each other
-not knowing about it, theyre on this ship the ancients made and they cant get off, everything about SGU is that the ancients fucked up again, this really really worked (wasnt pulled out)
-The creators didnt realize they were creating this, yes the ancients messed up, theres a lot of interactions with the Stargate characters, theyre refusing to learn about the ancients, weve seen you meddle and screw up but we're going to keep meddling, we're the second evolution of the ancients, we're becoming that
-only seen it two times, hard to follow the narrative, jack dies and no wait its daniel dying, kind of lost, need to watch again because its that rich and ill keep enjoying
-its true that they glorify the ancients most of the time, glorifies the characters even when they do horribke things, hard to follow the narrative when it had much to do with the lyrics, this is a parallel to whats going on
-aesthetic come from online, from kiki niserychic and beccatoria, depends a lot on knowing context, use of transparency in the lyrics
-loved the credits that were in ancient and then transformed to english
-wished the credits were in the beginning of the lyrics to make it more about the ancients and tip it off
-i disagree, it gave you that moment of breath, came in as a nice beat at the end

Thistle and Weeds
-I got this narrative, warlord of some sort, lady he likes, forbidden but not forbidden, he dies and he's sad, woman standing with blood with people around and then find out later that shes eating a heart and thats f'ed up
-havent seen it: civilized tribe and barbaric tribe, brother trades her to them, she has to submit to head of chief, falls in love with guy, adapts to them, other woman got burned but she doesnt get burned by dragons eggs or later hurt, mercy killing later, further expects to die, all eggs hatch because of fire, she becomes queen because of it, got all of that out of one vid
-sometimes just first shot you know this is good, first shot her walking out of darkness into light, thats the story of her life right there, i love the story it tells, that first clip right from there, vidder i love you, you told me that you knew her story and what you were doing
-pacing was fantastic in this vid, these are some big moments in these scene, how are we going to get there once we see this, and then after bridge oh shit thats how we get there, all the fire burning and how it cut faster
-framing was very effective
-haven't seen the show, after the big emotion panel with dips and rises, this song comes to mind to me and watching this vid you felt the build, i dont know the source and i was more emotionally connected, worked really well for me, pulled me in
-really struck by the choices that were made, this is where we are and we're going to tell the story, little jumps back and forth made it clearer how she goes from fragile thing to the kaleeze?, through her relationship with drono? you see the problematic road its taken to get there
-wow shes incredibly awesome after watching vid, didnt notice the structure in any concrete ways, wow this is perfect, you see its a strong woman, somethings happened to this woman, you get lack of control in her life through how she got there through her brother, when she killed droco, it was powerful, it was where were we going to go, it was like, yes it was a transitional moment taking power even out of love, that was about him, doing it for him and then we see the build that after her death is when she comes into her own, just wow that was perfect and worked for me
-we see the guy naked behind her and we see her trying to kill him and its part of her growing up process, talked about the build but befoe that theres scenes with the way it was out of order it was power in the way that she took power subtly, its the subtle stuff thats highlighted thats powerful and how the dragon eggs are a gift and the way that shes curious about them, appreciated it wasnt big moments
-knew lots of people died on the show, when she walked through the fire was like oh shit, was relieved when she didnt and has never been so relieved
-what I really liked about this is there is a lot of richness, really like clever lyric parts, the eggs you dont know til the end, i find a little moment in it, thank you
-two stories here that are sometimes parallel and sometimes not, coming into power and coming into adulthood, killing drogo, accepting consequences of it, weight of it is clear even if its not in vid, show that coming into power is not the same of coming into adulthood and like the seeds being the eggs and her brother and her as the last dragerons, how much of you is the leader and how much is learned to be the person youre meant to be
-saw it as finding her strength versus power, coming into her power and growing up
-loved the visual of first meeting her and the archway and seeing whole wide world and then the shot at the end where she stands up and everything pulls back to her, vid went into coming into the light and standing up and going into those two places was done really well
-Strong storyline in the vid was about who dani becomes is inherited or learned, two basically rape scenes, fighting her brother and with drogo, it shows the change that shes gone through and the way that the person she is in the person with the seeds, partly the influence of drogo using her to use power sensibly, use her power on her own and not in reaction
-she expects the guy, its not finding power but strength that allows her to have power, the use of nakedness is interesting, first because theyre stripping her to sell her and rape her, shes humiliated and bodily insulted and shes wearing soot and dragons but she did it for herself to walk through fire, stand up in front of men to show her power and not be humiliated, thats awesome

Challenge Vids
I Swear
-I wrote very early on as soon as it was clear what kind of vid we were watching...OTT emotion and then it went to 11 and then 22...thousand
-Cutest kitten baby ever
-A lot of work went into it, scary how easy it was to do and support
-You had me at the song choice when the unicorns came up, something inside me broke and nothing will ever be the same
-We talked about not blowing your wad in the beginning...met the parents and got married, whats happening next, then he got pregnant, just didnt know where it was going because you thought it was coming to a conclusion and then something else would happen
-This vid is basically (canon), universally applicable even if you havent watched smallville because this is the endgame, all the effort in watching the show suddenly bears fruit, didnt cry during Dreams (Marley and Me vid) and May I Suggest (Up vid) but I cried during this (wondered if broken)
-Smallville just ended at 10 seasons which is amazing but I watched the finale, know SV fans, they put a lot into the show because they had to, this brought back all the good parts like when Lex was on and the kryptonite unicorn which is so clearly superman canon
-at the end of kitten baby, adopted by batman and brought it further into the past
-perfect encapsulation, bad future fic from 2001, kind of perfect
Bendin' The Rules
-expecting something that looked more like a vcr vid, longer clips, etc while having the sensibility of a vcr vid so it wasnt as blasty as the pasty as I would have wanted
-brought us back into the story of the winchester which is kind of gone by the waysade, reminded of the core mystery and relationships of the show
-liked the childhood and history of the childhood
The Game has Changed
-beautiful visually
-unusual pacing, hit these peaks and valleys
-expected something completely different, liked the voiceovers, wary of the footage would work together but they did work together
-liked the way they used the actual source, felt there was more, shocked at the ending that it ended there
A View to Kill
-familiar with comic books, he wasnt naked and crying enough
-so perfectly edited with the duran duran music, felt the cheese
Land of Confusion
-struck by how for people the past=the 80s
-havent seen the original, omg the vid is amazing, familiar with other vid to it, slightly different recording helped with difference
-original song would have been period song, but new song was different, blast from the past helps situate something in the present, there is a reboots that different but looking good with sharp editing with more contemporary song
-80s as past, what extent people are 80s are past we remember
-in V, there was this context of WWII, having people whove been through that and having people being taken away again, old hand on top of young, this is how you do it and cant do it now because people are no longer with us
-cheered to have her be it and not marc's character, vids focus on male hero and leave out heroine and love that the vidder made that choice
-"We look to the future", talking about the state of society in this show and again that past/future relationship
(Keep Falling) Fascination
-was 4 when it was made, everyone has a youth, nicholas cage is really old now (laughs) and everyone has a past when he was young, youth is always relevant but youth is always part of the future which makes the past relevant
-can be nostalgiagic but let down on cheese factor and thank you that
Bright Star
-incredibly beautiful and I loved how this vid brought out the transcendent moments
-most people will know the source, spent life writing angsty love poetry, thought vid was him, there was frustration, theres tragedy and death, it was very like him
-gorgeous but puzzled by structure with heavy breathing in a longing way, worked for me but would like to pick the vidders brain as to why those choices were made
Thorn in My Heart
-love this one and how I know nothing about the source but beautiful structure and beautiful story and well done
A Sophisticated Song
-I loved that, it made my day, so suave in every other film except when with katherine
-eactly the right length, heres cary grant and katherine, theyre awesome, and we're out
-I loved the song, Hugh Laurie is right touch of sophisticated and funny
-Blast from past is watching classic hollywood movies in my past
Debauchery in the UK
-Lord Byron rock star is not actually an AU, it was a perfect song choice, hate the song choice but it was perfect
-blast is another historical source, i loved the use of text and paintings
-added another level to history
Then I Met You
-Kandy: OMG. I loved that she showed the equipment in the beginning and the sound of projector throughout, faults with the vid is the same we had back in the day without having a lot of source material
-I bought into this so much that I was like, what if vidder does not hit next slide fast enough, even with the limitations, she paced it with different clip length, beautiful pacing
-So many feelings about Kirk and Spock, get the sense of how you feel when you watch everything and knew exact content of all these clips, oh its thats moment, very evocative
-My impression was the clips were the start or end shots like they were at the cutting room floor like original cutting room floor and thats how slideshows were able to be made
-I like that they chose the reboot which is the original slash fandoms, perfect choice, worked for me, even though I imagined them moving
-Oh this works so well and I can see how this started
-We have a lot more on the screen thse days which helps for the contemporary eye
-I agree with the feeling, it has a good flow, this is an example that is so much more than the sum of its parts, ive seen those vids on youtube but its so much more well done in the choices of the slides and everything
-Seeing how effective it was with the style it was useful along with the SV vid with extra tech but looking at the two vids it started out with something so much in the past while the last was so modern and you can see where it goes

What was shown at VVC in Premieres was not my original audio (see "Dream" above); apparently, the llamaenc conversion wonked the evenly level audio tracks in my editing program and distorted the volume levels in track 2 (out of 4) when creating the .wav file. While this wasn't as noticeable in the Overflow Viewing (Comet) Room, it was more discernible in the "Big Room," especially out of the right-facing-side-of-the-room speakers. Hence the various complaints at Vid Review concerning the "wrong" and "painful" and "torturous" volume distortions that I had absolutely no part in creating and inflicting upon anyone. (Audio clip key changes, however, were entirely intentional.) Hey, if it's techie, weird stuff is bound to happen ~ no biggie. *g*

"This vid managed to sell me olivia newton john, hes standing?"

I think she actually said "He's Sandy" - the character from Grease.

"temporary revenge" - That's "Temper of Revenge", an old MVD Miami Vice vid that Ces likes to talk about re: vidding history.
