It's weird that this is my final Vividcon con report ever. But I started doing con reports since my first one and I want to make sure I finish the tradition. I've been super busy with RL stuff so had to put this on the backburner but finally had some time today to finish this up. Apologies if I forgot something or put the wrong person, just let me know if so and I can fix it. So here is my 13th and final Vividcon con report...
( Vividcon report under the cut )
I feel like I should have some deep and meaningful thoughts that can conclude on my times at Vividcon but I feel like kass did that better than I ever could in the end of her con report. I'm just so glad that I found vidding as a creative outlet and that Vividcon was there for me as a community when I was young. I was 15 when I fell in love with vidding and I was so happy that I finally found a creative activity that *fit* me in a way that writing never did. I found media fandom on Livejournal in early 2003 through a google search for vidding to help improve my first vid which led me to bonibaru's vid recs and vid meta recs site which led me to vid meta posts and tons of amazing vids to watch. I had to wait until 2006 to come (the 2005 envy was HUGE) but I will always idealize my first year as a beautiful time where everything was new and special and finally got to meet tons of online people I admired while finally feeling like there was a place where I belonged with people who are creative, smart, kind, generous, and who work towards improvement of their vids. Even 13 years later when I have grown and changed so much, I still feel feel that sense of belonging and specialness at this con and I'm grateful it's been there for me.
It's always been so inspiring to be around so many impressive vids and people at Vividcon that helped me finish vids, learn to *read* vids better, and improve my own vids. I'm so happy that I was able to create vids for the con that people have really connected to and glad that I've made so much progress in my vidding. I've loved the panels/vid reviews where I could be around so much intelligent analysis of vids that it's hard to find online. I appreciated that Vividcon has been a place where we could be very analytical but also full of squee and emotions and that both are valued. Club Vivid has been a paradise to me whether I was drunk or not and I finally could dance in a club that was perfectly attuned to my interests and people I love being with who all celebrate vids whether they were new premieres or classic favorites. I have such fond memories of seeing various vids during vidshows and getting to have that extra emotional reaction laughing, crying or cheering with other people (see the catbaby vid!). The hotel itself became like a home to me in that I was so familiar with it, had spent so much time there over the years and had so many happy memories with the people at Vividcon. I even call the staircase to the second floor, the "Stairway to Heaven" as that's what it is to me.
Most of all, I've loved getting to know and become friends with (in various depths) so many of the amazing people who come to Vividcon. There have been so many conversations and group hangouts that I'll never forget and that left a big impact on my life and made me so happy in the moment and in memories. The room parties, the lunches (I will forever miss the Thai restaurant with the best pad thai!), the con suite and in between panel talks, the late night conversations were all so special to me and because we were all at the hotel, we could so easily connect in a special way from our online conversation. I've carried on the relationships at VVC in other locations including in LA and NYC (and while traveling) that have meant a lot to me and my life would be incredibly different (negatively) without them. I've always felt that Vividcon was a family to me in the sense that I'd see many people once a year and online and I've felt safe and supported there with both the deep relationships and shallow connections appreciated. I hope to keep seeing people in the future (lmk of any of you come to NYC or within 3-4 hours of it if you want to hang out) whether it's during travel or cons or even online. And please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you ever need someone to talk to or someone to help with resources, problem solving or advice as I will always be there for all of you, non-Vividcon attending vidding people included.
I loved knowing that each year I had something special to look forward which kept me going through the tough moments. In the last two years, when life has been the toughest ever due to depression and RL stuff, thinking of attending Vividcon has kept me from giving up and a reason to keep on going when I was sick of trying and being in pain, and I'm so grateful for that. In that process, I found other things to get me excited about living in a world without Vividcon and part of those realizations came from friends I made at Vividcon. While I disagree about some of the reasons that Vividcon was ended, I now believe it may actually be a good transition in my life as I find fewer things to be fannish about (I barely read fic or am interested in reading show/ship discussion anymore) and want to focus on other things such as starting my own business and building deeper relationships in RL and with my family. I plan to have a child in the next 5 years so I also will be spending a lot of time working on improving my childcare skills, knowledge and experience so I can be as prepared as I can. I will never say I'll stop vidding and have vids planned for the next year but not having the Vividcon pressure to make vids will be nice. Currently, I'm planning on attending TGIF/F and maybe Wiscon next year but am also excited about taking a trip to Italy next summer instead of going to a summer con as I have in the past. With a car, I also have more opportunity to visit fans in the northeast and will always stay in touch with the vidding community online along with the other fannish connections I've made.
Thank you again to everyone on the concom and to all the people who made the con keep running each year even through the many technical issues we've had to deal with as you all have my deep admiration and gratefulness. Thank you to all the people who have made my Vividcon better in any shape and form and who have been so kind to me and given me so much happiness. My memories of Vividcon all blend together now but I mostly remember the good times and even though I will always miss this con and still wish it could last forever, I am so happy I lived through a time where Vividcon existed and I was able to find this community and share incredible moments together. I love you Vividcon and Vividcon people and always will <3 |

New vid: Visions of Gideon (Multi) |

Title: Visions of Gideon Music: "Visions of Gideon" by Sufjan Stevens Fandom: Multi (uses only footage from my vids including text I wrote recently and from Vividcon con reports/posts) Summary: "Is it a video?" A video I created about my personal experience with Vividcon. Content Notes: A few clips with blood in them. Notes: Made for Vividcon Premieres 2018. Thanks to lola for the beta! Download Link: Visions of Gideon (94MB MP4) AO3
I heard this song at the end of Call Me By Your Name and it immediately struck me as a song that reminded me of vidding with the "Is it a video?" repeated lyric. At some point of listening to the song, the line "I have loved you for the last time" reminded me of Vividcon and I got the idea to make a vid to the song using my own vids as footage to show how much Vividcon means to me just like the clips in my vids have a lot of meaning to me (they're both video and my real life identity). The lyric "Visions of Gideon" reminded me of my idealism especially when it comes to Vividcon and how I held up the con as a beacon of happiness and hope that helped me get through hard times in my life. I wanted to use text to explain the Vividcon connection (and how I first found VVC) and try to use text from my VVC posts to use my whole history with VVC from my first to the last one I attended (as such some of the earlier text do not represent my current state of mind). I added pictures of the Vividcon hotel to make the connection more clear as well as show Vividcon is also a place I attend and I have strong memories of the whole hotel and con places in it as a home to me. I really enjoyed finding the right clips from my vids to add extra layers of meaning to all the different layers of the vid so that was one of my favorite parts of vidding this vid.
The vid itself shows my journey in processing the end of Vividcon and what I have gone through in the last year to make my peace with it. I was really upset when I found out Vividcon was ending which spanned many emotions including sadness and anger but I am an emotional person and the way I process my feelings is to allow myself intense emotions including identifying with fictional characters (see vid) which helps me release them and move on. I wanted to represent that in the first half of the vid because if I didn't love Vividcon so much and if it wasn't so important to me, I wouldn't have had such a deep reaction to it ending. But it was also really important for me to give a happier ending to the second half of the vid because eventually I was able to remember all the happy memories and be grateful that I had the chance to be a part of such an amazing con.
I was going through major depression when I found out Vividcon was ending and up to April 2018 so it took me some time (and the thought of being at VVC helped keep me alive!) but eventually I found other things to look forward to in life and was able to let go of Vividcon and be at peace that it had ended. The last few clips are about that transition and the very last one is meant to represent me looking at other people being happy and belonging at other cons and being glad they have them just like I had Vividcon while hoping I can find my place to belong somewhere else (probably not fan cons and I'm cool with that). The vid was made with no ill intent towards anyone - I truly hold in high esteem and care for everyone who has attended the con as I tried to make clear at the end of the vid. I am aware this was a deeply personal ito make but vids are a way for me to self-express my truth and put my feelings into art. I hoped some other people would possibly connect to it and I felt it was a good way to bring cathartic closure to my Vividcon experience as well as make a tribute to a con I love so much. |

Brief Pre-Vividcon Update |
[Aug. 8th, 2018|05:51 am] |
I’m soooo excited about going to Vividcon tomorrow!!! I’ll be at the hotel around 9am on Thursday and leaving around 3pm on Monday. I made 4 vids and I can’t wait to see the 150 (!!!) premiering vids and see so many people I love and talk about vids and CLUB VIVID! I wanted to post a brief update about what I’ve been up to lately as things have changed.
-I did some freelance research assistant work for the first half of the year (hmu if you’re a professor etc and want some help) and rediscovered my love of coding through learning R. -I went to TGIF/F in LA and had fun talking about femslash and watchng/dancing to femslash vids and seeing amazing people. -I struggled a lot with depression and loneliness and finally decided to try a med my friend was on and take a high dosage of it (in time) and after 4 weeks, I was the happiest I’ve been since I was 14 years old. So yeah, I figured out I’ve wasted 15 years of my life being low grade depressed which is why I haven’t had the energy to achieve my goals. On the bright side, I actually have high self-esteem and high confidence now and I fully believe I can make my dreams come true. -I did some babysitting for a friend which made me realize I love working with kids and want to pursue it as a career. I love helping take care of kids and loving them as well as helping them learn and I love reading everything about the topic. Thankfully NYC needs a lot of help with all the working parents. -I went to Wiscon for the first time and had an amazing time hanging out with friends and going to the vidshow. I got to meet chaila finally! The Black Panther and Get Out (the one horror movie I like) panels were amazing! -I searched for a full time childcare job and found a great one in Scarsdale taking care of an 8 year old girl and 12 year old girl which I started at the end of the July. After 2 weeks, they let me go not because of anything I did but because they hadn’t realized they needed a lot less hours and mostly housekeeping/driving. I was super upset as I had been happy at the job for the first time ever and was depressed this last weekend. But I applied to some other places in the last few days, have some scheduled interviews (including 3 today) and am excited about some of the jobs even if they pay less. -I have an online business idea I’m really excited about and I’m going to be working on it a lot in the next year so I can try to make some extra money that I can use for savings. -Due to the help of my anti-depressants, I’ve lost some weight as I feel much less need to emotionally eat and they help tone down my hunger. I’m im the decade I want to stay in although I’m going to need to body recomp to gain muscle for American Ninja Warrior training. It’s been slow and steady but I’m seeing real progress.
So that’s where I am at the moment as well as enjoying spending more time with my brother, Dad, cousin snd her kids since they live close to NYC. I’ve had less time for fandom lately but still keep up with some shows (watch Killing Eve!!!) and vidding fandom. If you want to hang out at Vividcon, just let me know!
YAY VIVIDCON! |

Vividcon 2017 Con Report |
[Aug. 10th, 2017|01:33 pm] |
I'm back from Vividcon 2017 and I had a wonderful time! I was worried earlier in the year that this VVC would be really sad but thankfully I'm in a great mental state right now where pre-con I've been feeling super happy each day and that carried into the con where I tried to enjoy every moment of the con and savor all the good memories instead of being disappointed when things didn't go my way. It really helped make the con extra awesome and I had a great time getting to connect to my friends, watch vids, talk about vids and have a lot of fun.
I tried remembering everything as best I can but if I made any mistakes, feel free to correct me!
( Vividcon 2017 Con Report )
Thank you to everyone who made my Vividcon so special! To me, Vividcon is a beautiful place where vidding is everything just like it is to me and where I can enjoy talking about vidding wherever I go as well and have amazing discussions about the craft. There is nothing that compares to watching premiering vids on the big screen in a crowd of people who *get* and *love* it and it brings an emotional high that is never replicated by watching on a smaller screen alone. I am SO happy to have Vividcon as a part of my life and this year I tried to appreciate each and every moment. I can't wait for next year and I look forward to a year filled with vidding growth as a vidder and as a community. Vividcon <3 Forever! |

Vividcon Forever #SaveVividcon |
[Jun. 3rd, 2017|11:04 pm] |
I am extremely upset by the news that Vividcon is ending after Vividcon 2018. Vividcon means everything to me and this world has tried to destroy me so much in the last year but I thought I would always have Vividcon. If you love Vividcon and would still love it to continue as a vidding con, please don't give up on the idea because I will not. I will say more about this later but here's what I said on Twitter:
I can't put into words how upset and heartbroken I am about this. Know that I will do everything in my power to make sure Vividcon never ends.
I am not giving up on Vividcon and a con where VIDDING is the main focus. I will dedicate my life to this, I swear.
Vidding has been the thing I love most in life for 15 years. Vividcon has been the one place I feel at home & I love it more than anything.
I consider everyone who has attended Vividcon my family and I will fight for all of you and for the concept of a vidding focused con.
I was super inspired watching Wonder Woman again today. As she says, if I don't fight for what I believe in, who will I be?
I believe in Vividcon. Until there is no one left (besides me) who wants to come, there will ALWAYS be a Vividcon. I will give my life to it. |

Vividcon 2016 Con Report (Part 2) |
[Aug. 20th, 2016|02:05 am] |
Here's my Vividcon 2016 Con Report (Part 1) here.
I tried remembering everything as best I can but if I made any mistakes, feel free to correct me! This goes for anything as I'd always like to improve :)
( Vividcon Con Report 2016 (Part 2) )
Thank you again to all the amazing people that made my Vividcon so wonderful and amazing and for all the people who helped put the con together, worked on programming and submitted vids. It was funny that there was a panel at the con about letting go because it felt like a lot of the con was an exercise in letting go for me: letting go of my expectations, my nerves, FOMO, my hopes that everything would go perfectly and instead just savoring all the good moments, allowing myself to be vulnerable and making deeper connections from it, doing the best I could even when things were hard, loving the vids and community all around me. In the end, life is too fucking short to focus on the bad stuff so I tried my best to be happy at all the good things this con gave me this year and all the ways it has enhanced my life. I love Vividcon so much and I'm so glad I've gotten to enjoy it with so many different beautiful, amazing people and that is so incredibly meaningful. |

Vividcon 2016 Con Report (Part 1) |
[Aug. 20th, 2016|02:01 am] |
So I'm back from Vividcon 2016 and as always, I had an amazing time. It was probably the weirdest Vividcon I've ever been to (personally) and an emotional roller coaster throughout but I had a lot of fun and it was wonderful to see so many friends again (even though I missed others who weren't there). There were so many incredible vids this year and I am constantly amazed by the creativity, brilliance and talent of the vidding community and so happy to be a part of it.

Yesterday I arrived in Minnesota to visit with bessyboo for the week before Vividcon and then will drive down to Vividcon 2016 next Thursday with other fans. I'm SO excited for Vividcon this year and I can't wait to see all the new vids and all my favorite people there. It's going to be amazing! |

New vid: Afire Love (The Normal Heart) |
[Aug. 10th, 2015|09:55 pm] |
Title: Afire Love Music: "Afire Love" by Ed Sheeran Fandom: The Normal Heart (additional footage: We Were Here (2011), How to Survive a Plague (2012)) Focus: Felix/Ned Summary: You're not the only one. Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g. epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, “stuttery” cuts between 2-3 stills). Notes: Made for Vividcon Challenge. Thanks to thingswithwings for the beta! Download Link: Afire Love (89 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
I saw The Normal Heart when it first came out and it emotionally destroyed me with the main pairing and the LGBT community's struggle to fight AIDS. My knowledge of AIDS activism was very limited so the movie helped bring the early struggles to light for me. I heard this song last summer and found it to be a very powerful song especially the ending that brought in the family aspect. It seemed like the perfect vidsong to me but I couldn't think of what fandom had the powerful family relationships I needed - until I realized that family can also refer to a community of people such as the LGBT community which would fit perfectly with The Normal Heart. After I realized that, the structure of the vid became clear to me and I realized I could use historical external source to make the queer community aspect more broad and diverse than was shown in the movie to hopefully make it even more powerful.
I had intended to make this vid for Escapade but after I got into a new ship, I didn't have the time to make this vid as well. Then the VVC Memory Challenge theme worked perfectly with the vid idea and I didn't have time to make my two initial Challenge ideas so I decided to make this vid for Challenge. The clipping was fairly painless and I read about AIDS activism in LGBT communities and watched a few documentaries about it including the two I used: We Were Here and How to Survive a Plague which helped provide some incredibly useful footage. The vid made me cry a lot while making it (especially the ending) but I figured that was a good sign for the emotional reaction I was going for. thingswithwings provided some super helpful feedback that made the vid even better and in the end, I'm really happy that I made it and with how it turned out. |

New vid: Dark Doo Wop (House of Cards US) |
[Aug. 10th, 2015|07:43 pm] |
Title: Dark Doo Wop Music: "Dark Doo Wop" by MS MR Fandom: House of Cards (US) S1-2 Focus: Edward Meechum/Claire Underwood/Francis Underwood Summary: If we're going down, baby you should stick around. Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g. epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills), brief graphic violence Notes: Made for Vividcon Premiere 2015. Thanks to isagel for the quick beta! Download Link: Dark Doo Wop (62 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
So I originally had another vid planned for Premieres but after making my Club Vivid vid, I needed a break from vidding and after that I realized I wasn't going to have the time to actually make that more time intensive vid. In mid-May, I started catching up on House of Cards S2 and fell hard for this threesome which features one of the most beautiful, intense and nonverbal romantic scenes I've ever seen. As luck would have it, I heard this song in one of Spotify's playlists I was listening to as I fell asleep and I realized it was perfect for them while also having the lyrics to cover some of the political stuff I wanted to include. It was nice to have a less time intensive clipping process and the House of Cards pretty imagery helped make the vidding process mostly painless as I wanted to use the symbols to provide some context and meaning to their relationship together. It turned to be one of those vids that looks very similar to what I saw in my head before I made it which is always wonderful when it occurs. |

New vid: Don't Wanna Dance (Grey's Anatomy) |
[Aug. 10th, 2015|04:47 pm] |
Title: Don't Wanna Dance Music: "Don't Wanna Dance" by MØ (Titus Jones Remix) Fandom: Grey's Anatomy S1-10 Focus: Meredith/Cristina Summary: I don't wanna dance with nobody but you. Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g. epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills) Notes: Made for Club Vivid 2015. Download Link: Don't Wanna Dance (72 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
I've wanted to make a Cristina/Meredith vid since 2005 when I was really into Grey's Anatomy and I've always promised myself when the show was over (or Cristina left) I would. Since the latter happened, last year at a Vividcon room party I swore that I'd make one for them for next year's Vividcon. Amazingly enough, I actually did it! The pairing is very meaningful to me because it was my first femslash OTP and helped keep me watching the show for many years. Last year I heard the original version of this song and I loved the chrous which seemed perfect for making a dancing focused Cristina/Meredith vid that I could premiere at Club Vivid. Unfortunately the lyrics section lacked a good dancing beat so I knew I'd have to find a remix to make the song danceable for CVV.
I searched the internet but I hated all the remixes I found so I realized I'd have to take matters into my own hands. I've always loved Titus Jones's mashups so I looked into whether he could make a custom remix for me and to my surprise, he could and for a reasonable low price! It was a really easy process for him to make the remix and he even added the quick beats right before the chorus without me asking which really enhanced the vid IMO. The clipping process was horrible because the show is so long but I started early and tried to maintain a quick pace to find all the Meredith/Cristina scenes and any other relevant clips. It took forever but I managed to do it and did some vidding in between to make it more fun. It was a bit overwhelming at first but I was able to just find the best clips to use between them and once I figured out what the different sections of the vid would be doing (in relation to Cristina's growth and journey), I was able to find the clips that would work best in each one. Overall I really enjoyed getting to squee over Meredith and Cristina's scenes again and create the friendship/femslash (I've always loved how easily their relationship can go either way and that the vid leaves it open to interpretation) vid I've always wanted to make for them. |

Vividcon 2014 Con Report |
[Sep. 2nd, 2014|02:32 pm] |
At long last, here is my Vividcon 2014 Con Report :)
( Con Report under the cut )
Overall it was an absolutely amazing Vividcon and I had a wonderful time getting to see so many friends again as well as meet new ones. There's never enough time to get to talk to everyone for as long as I'd like but I like to think of all my Vividcon's put together as a way to get a chance to do that and I definitely was able to have some great conversation with various people. I was really inspired by some of the vids and the panels were full of interesting discussion that has made me even more determined to keep learning and growing to become a better vidder. When I got home, I started clipping for my Club Vivid vid next year and I'm already looking forward to making Escapade vids and festivids. The con is always super well run which as we've seen this year, is not a given and I love the balance between trying new things and sticking with so many great traditions that I deeply love. I missed a lot of people this year who couldn't make it but I'm so thankful for all the people who could come and made it such an amazing experience for me. I'm so happy to be a part of such an amazing vidding community and can't wait for next Vividcon! |

Vividcon Recs |
[Aug. 21st, 2014|08:12 pm] |
So I am super behind on Vividcon related stuff but I am determined to get things done by next week so here are some Vividcon vid recs. There were SO many amazing vids this year in a million different fandoms and I encourage everyone to check out the masterlist here to see if there were any for sources and songs you may be interested in. These recs are just the ones that worked the most for me and my personal preferences heavily influence the list so even if I don't mention certain vids, it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them! But here are my favorites:
Fantasy by sisabet (The Mindy Project) - This was the FEELS vid of the con for me and I had to physically restrain myself during Premieres from squee and couldn't help all the happy tears from falling. This captures Mindy's struggle for the fantasy romantic relationship SO WELL and chooses the perfect clips to bring the emotions and structure of it is SO PERFECT and I LOVE IT SO MUCH I CANT EVEN TALK ABOUT JUST *FLAIL*
Immigrant Song by hollywoodgrrl (Vikings) - Out of all the vids at the con, this was the one that impressed me the most visually and left my jaw literally on the floor with the STUNNING ending section that blew my mind with the symbolism and effects and just go join me and watch this a million times. HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS VID!!!
A Single Man by obsessive24 (A Single Man) - This movie was one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen and this vid does an AMAZING job at capturing that gorgeous beauty and the emotional journey of the story with beautiful color and parallels and feelings.
***Flawless by kiki_miserychic (Disney Princesses) - This is the Disney vid I ALWAYS wanted and never knew I needed which both celebrates and critiques Disney movies with amazing parallels and interesting commentary and wow, that ending.
Myxomatosis by hollywoodgrrl (Bates Motel) - This was an amazing distillation of everything Bates Motel was trying to do with amazing parallels with Psycho while being an intense character study of Norman and his relationship with Norma and how fucked up it is inside his mind portrayed visually so brilliantly.
Dance Alarm by thirdblindmouse (The Fast & the Furious series) - This vid is a beautiful kinetic motion showcase of all the things I love about the franchise: the cars, slash, badass women and nonstop action paired with one of my favorite songs.
Vitalum Vitalis by hollywoodgrrl and ohvienna (American Horror Story: Coven) - This is a stunning femslash vid that gave me lots of feelings without ever seeing the show and the use of imagery in this is simply gorgeous and intense.
Chasing Cars by sisabet (Due South) - BRB CRYING!!! This vid destroyed me emotionally during Challenge and even on rewatch, makes me cry so hard with its love for our pets and how much we lean on them when the world sucks and we need someone to love. DIEF!!! <3
Celebration by sweetestdrain (Multi) - This is a seamlessly edited vid of all the music videos featuring amazing female pop divas which is both sexy as fuck and a critique of the music industry in super great ways.
Work Bitch by rhoboat (Reign) - This vid is super pretty with some amazing effects and a certain work it section will never fail to make me laugh with the ridiculousness.
Warrior by findthesea (Marvel Cinematic Universe) - If you would have told me before the con that I'd be reccing a Marvel vid, I would have said no fucking way because I'm super sick of Marvel and superheroes at the moment. BUT this vid was able to convert me because it focuses on all the amazing women in MCU (who should IMO be the real heroes with actual storylines but I digress) and shows all the ways in which they're awesome. |

New vid: Made For This (Game of Thrones) |
[Aug. 11th, 2014|02:04 pm] |
Title: Made For This Music: "Letters From The Sky" by Civil Twilight Fandom: Game of Thrones S1-4 Focus: Cersei, Cersei/Jaime Summary: "Jaime and I are more than brother and sister. We shared a womb. We came into this world together, we belong together." - Cersei Lannister Content Notes: Fast cuts, quick clips of gore, incest. Notes: Premiered at Vividcon 2014 Premieres. Thanks to hollywoodgrrl for the beta. Download Link: Made For This (92 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
I've had this vid idea for over two years and had planned to premiere this vid at Vividcon 2014 so I'm so happy I was able to successfully fulfill that goal. I first heard this song around May 2012 and was instantly blown away by the dynamic changes and how perfectly it fit Cersei and her relationship with Jaime. I knew we could get more of them in season four so I knew I had to wait til 2014 to finish the vid although it didn't stop me from vidding it before then. I was a bit intimidated as it was a more ambitious idea than I usually do but I was really excited to make it especially as my Cersei/Jaime feelings increased...and then The Scene happened in S4. I was furious and depressed and sad at how the Game of Thrones writers handled such an important scene for my favorite ship from the show and I could barely look at Jaime and was afraid I wouldn't be able to make the vid. Thankfully after a month or so, I was able to get enough distance to move on from it, pretend it didn't happen (mostly) and keep working on this vid. I mistook the Premieres deadline so I had to rush in the last two weeks to get this done but I was lucky enough to get some super useful Cersei/Jaime footage in the season finale so that helped me regain my feels again as well. It was a struggle working on the vid at times as I had the perfect idea in my head of what the vid would look like and it was hard to successfully bring that vision to life. But thanks in part to cheerleading from friends and the great last minute beta of hollywoodgrrl, I was able to get the vid to look close to what I saw in my head and was able to end up happy with it. I love talking about this vid and ship so feel free to ask questions or leave any comments about it :)

New vid: Right Now (Game of Thrones) |
[Aug. 11th, 2014|12:25 pm] |
Title: Right Now Music: "Right Now" by Rihanna (ft. David Guetta) Fandom: Game of Thrones S1-4 Focus: Arya Stark & Brienne of Tarth Summary: All we got is right now. Content Notes: Fast cuts, brief shots of gore. Notes: Premiered at Club Vivid. Download Link: Right Now (74 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
I originally had two Club Vivid ideas I was going to do but unfortunately ran out of time to make either but still wanted to make a Game of Thrones vid for Premieres. I heard this song and really wanted to vid the EDM sections to Arya and Brienne sword fighting so I decided to make this vid featuring them. They are two of my favorite characters on the show (Arya is my faaaave) and I knew it would be a lot of fun to vid them. I had to edit the song to get only my favorite parts of the source and song in it and it was super fun to find the parallels between Arya and Brienne when they were fighting so I could vid them together. Plus it allowed me to have a great reason to cosplay as Arya at Club Vivid :)

New vid: Ready or Not (Faking It) |
[Aug. 11th, 2014|11:31 am] |
Title: Ready or Not Music: "Ready or Not" by Air Traffic Controller Fandom: Faking It S1 Focus: Amy/Karma Summary: Ready or not, here we go. Content Notes: None. Notes: Premiered at Vividcon 2014 Femslash Vidshow Download Link: Ready or Not (82 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
So I fell in love with Faking It at the perfect time when I was going through some hard fannish times and I was super happy to find a new ship that I loved. I really wanted to vid Amy/Karma and heard this song on a fanmix and felt compelled to vid it. I had promised kiki_miserychic that I would make a femslash premiere for her so I made this for her show, hoping to recruit people to watch the show (in case you're wondering, it's a fake relationship between two best friends where one girl falls in love with the other, eight 20 minute episodes so far). It was SO much fun to vid because they are super cute and I got to vid my favorite parts of the show which includes a lot of girlkissing ;)

Festivids Reveals! |
[Feb. 11th, 2014|08:15 pm] |
Festivids have been revealed! You can check out the master list to see all the fandoms and vidder names. There was a TON of amazing vids and I made a big recs post in my head but haven't been in a posting mood lately. I was lucky enough to receive THREE wonderful vids that I love dearly. They are:
Spring Break Anthem (Arrested Development) made by lily_the_kid. This is an amazing GOB vid (and heavily GOB/Tony) that captures his character and their relationship so well. The editing is great and it's so much fun!
Friends (The Lion King!!!) made by jagwriter78. I never expected to get a Lion King vid so I was super stoked to get this and it's a wonderful, adorable vid full of hugs, friendship and love. I'm so glad I have a vid full of so many things I love about this movie that I can watch over and over!
Dutch (The Wire) made by chaila. A Stringer vid! My favorite character and this vid is a perfect encapsulation both the good and the bad with tight editing, perfect lyric matches and lots of feels!
Thank you to my wonderful festividders! They made my Festivid experience this year so awesome and extra happy :)
I had big plans this Festivids to make 15 vids, then 7 but I finally settled for four. I had the free time to make more but I struggled with not feeling emotionally attached or inspired with some of my vid ideas (and some minor tech issues) so I didn't end making as many as I hoped. My goal was four though so I'm very happy with that and they were all received as well or better than I expected so overall it was a great experience! I made three movie vids this year which was very different for me but the benefit is a LOT less clipping which I enjoyed. The vids I made were:
Final Round (Pariah - 2011): DW | LJ for livrelibre Love, Save the Empty (Masters of Sex): DW | LJ for aphrodite_mine All We Got (The Great Gatsby): DW | LJ for linguology Get Me Bodied (The Fifth Element): DW | LJ for bradcpu
Thanks to everyone who commented on them already (hopefully I should reply soon) and I highly recommend checking out the vids! I am now working on clipping Game of Thrones (for most future vids) for Vividcon which is taking forever but will be worth it when I don't have to clip the same seasons over and over again in the future. I can't believe it's already time to start planning Vividcon vids (and panels/vidshows over at the community!) but registration is in a couple weeks so I'm excited to begin especially when I have so many ambitious ideas planned. Yay vidding! |

Vividcon 2013 Recs |
[Aug. 23rd, 2013|09:14 pm] |
So I wrote up some vid recs this year. Most of the vids this year were well done but not all of them connected with me personally so I limited myself to just the vids I truly love and will be watching over and over. Obviously those were affected by fandom and song choice but they're all amazing vids that I highly recommend. Here they are:
Run Boy Run (Game of Thrones) by hollywoodgrrl: THIS VID IS PERFECT! I don't know if I've ever been blown away by a Premieres vid as much as this one and I still am completely in awe of it. There is SO much depth here and even if you haven't seen Game of Thrones, the editing is SO FUCKING AWESOME that it's still worth seeing multiple times. This fandom really needed a vid showing what the women must deal with in Westeros and how they live with it and this vid has filled that void for me. Just watch it and leave her ALL the feedback because this vid deserves it alllll. Have I mentioned it's my FAVORITE? <3
Smells Like Westeros Spirit (Game of Thrones) by hollywoodgrrl: I LOVE THIS VID SO MUCH! There are so many great parallels within the houses and and the bridge is so epically gorgeous I can't even. She took one of my favorite songs and made it fit incredibly well with such great motion and structure. And the ending shots are OMG PERFECT!
Retrograde (Beasts of the Southern Wild) by sockkpuppett: I saw this vid both before I saw the movie and after I saw this movie and both times it blew me away and made me cry. It's so beautifully constructed and the song choice fit the source incredibly well especially the gorgeous use of setting.
Sleeping Ute (Life of Pi) by absolutedestiny: This vid completely broke me in all the best ways. SO PRETTY it hurts and there is a TIGER which is my favorite part. The end is structured so beautifully and just hits it out of the park.
The Evil Queen (Ms. Mills If You're Nasty) (Once Upon a Time) by foomatic: This was my favorite non Game of Thrones Club Vivid vid and captured all my Regina is the sexiest HBIC EVER!!1! feels. I loved the use of the Evil Queen and the Regina/Emma footage that really brought across the dominatrix!Regina theme. I had SO much fun dancing to this at CVV!
Age Like Wine (Multi) by absolutedestiny: So much nostalgia!! This vid covers so much of my vidding life and has a lot of personal meaning to me. It says so much about dealing with change and continuing our creative outlets even as we get older. Vidding fandom vid FTW!
The Polka Slayer (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) by bradcpu and milly: Buffy!! This was the perfect encapsulation of the show with so much love and hilarity at every new song inside a great polka medley. There are so many callbacks to vids and fandom and it makes me miss this show so much.
Mineshaft (Game of Thrones) by milly: I was SO happy to see a Ros vid, a character that does not get treated well by canon and I loved how this vid did a great job to show her story while showing her connections to other characters. The lyrical matches are just so awesome, I definitely need to watch this vid more to pick up on everything!
Our House (Little Miss Sunshine) by mresundance: This movie is my favorite and this vid captured so well the family aspect that I love about it. The build of it is absolutely fantastic and I have so many emotions at it that the vid taps into beautifully.
Ghosts That We Knew (Merlin) by trelkez: I thought all my Merlin feels were gone but this vid brought them all back and more! So beautifully made, I love the structure of it and the beautiful use of flashbacks and facial expressions.
Scream (Doctor Who) by kass and laurashapiro: I thought this was a fun Doctor Who vid when I watched it at Club Vivid but upon closer watch, it's an awesome look at how creepy the Doctor can be. It's hard for me to enjoy 11 era vids but I really loved this vid and it does a fantastic job of getting it's message across.
Devil Wouldn't Recognize You (Elementary) by obsessive24: This vid may actually get me to watch some more Elementary which is quite a feat. Super beautiful editing that just moves and I'm completely intrigued by the plot. The effects work is freaking gorgeous and completely fits with the song.
Too Late Baby (Once Upon a Time) by braver_creature: Rumple feels! This is an awesome character study of Rumpelstiltskin and all the messed up things he's done even as he (sometimes) tries to be a better person and reconnect with people he loves. The bridge is particularly amazing, I love how it moves and sounds like the music, super cool.
There are so many other great vids and I highly recommend checking out this list of all the vidshows and links to the vids to see if there are any vids you might want to check out. |

I love everyone in this bar. Or, Vividcon 2013 Con Report |
[Aug. 21st, 2013|08:42 pm] |
Vividcon this year was AWESOME. I decided to spend my evening tonight capturing all my favorite memories from it. My memory is not super great so I'm sorry if I forgot anything and please let me know if I got anything wrong. Also I used LJ identies here for the most part so I didn't have to spend more time editing posts on each journal, let me know if you want it to be DW instead. Here goes...
( Vividcon 2013 Con Report )
So that was my con. There was a LOT of amazing moments, many I've probably forgotten and I wish I could remember everyone I got a chance to have a great time with. I was really happy that people liked my vids and I loved so many of the vids that premiered. In the end, my favorite part of Vividcon is the people and everyone was SUPER nice and awesome. I feel so happy, rejuvenated and full of love for everything right now and I want to continue that feeling and leave ALL the comments. Not to mention, make ALL the vids and be more a part of the community, including posting to DW/LJ. Vividcon truly is my favorite con and as always, the highlight of my year. Til next year... |

New vid: Scar Tissue (The O.C.) |
[Aug. 20th, 2013|11:12 pm] |
Title: Scar Tissue Music: Red Hot Chili Peppers Fandom: The OC S1-4 Focus: Ryan, Ryan/Seth Summary: With the birds I'll share this lonely view. Content Notes: Brief clips of sexual assault and violence Notes: Made for obsessive24 for Vividcon Auction 2013. Thanks to obsessive24 for the beta as well! Download Link: Scar Tissue (74 MB AVI) AO3 | Tumblr
So Nicky was an awesome person to buy me who gave me a list of vids to make and I told her all the ones I'd like to do. This was the one she wanted out of the ones I liked and I was very excited to make it as I was hoping to have a chance to rewatch a show I hadn't seen before and I saw The OC when I was in high school before I came to live in the OC and LA so I caught a lot more references this time. I fell in love with Ryan and Ryan/Seth all over again and remembered why I used to ship them so hard. It gave me a chance to read some fic for them too! I loved the song choice for this as it was fun to vid Ryan's EPIC MANPAIN. It was good to vid different aspects of his character and storyline as well as the slash although rewatching four seasons took forever as I started way too late. The vidding process was fairly easy thank god as it was mostly linearly vidded and I was able to come up with the structure pretty fast. While the later seasons weren't as good, man that finale made me cry and it was great to vid it. I was very happy with Nicky's response to the vid and was happy to make a few changes for her that made the vid better. I'm glad I had such a good time (for the most part) for my first VVC auction vid!

New vid: We Don't Care (The Wire) |
[Aug. 20th, 2013|08:41 pm] |
Title: We Don't Care Music: Kanye West Vidder: Anoel Fandom: The Wire S4-5 Focus: S4 Kids Summary: You failed. Content Notes: Contains graphic violence Notes: Premiered at Vividcon Challenge 2013. Thanks to killabeez and elynross for the beta. Download Link: We Don't Care (51 MB AVI)
AO3 | Tumblr
So this vid was about 90% made in August and September 2010 after I came home from Vividcon and was super inspired to vid. The song was obviously the kids for me and I looove Kanye so I was excited to get a chance to vid him and a rap song. Making this vid was one of the most emotional vid processes ever as I rewatched S4, cried a lot and then clipped S4, cried a lot and then laid clips down and cried some more. That season and plotline was my favorite and I wanted to show the failure of the institutions and people to save them no matter how they tried as that was the most frustrating part of it all. Both killabeez and elynross were kind enough to give me some beta for the vid but they suggested some changing to the ending which was hard to hear for me since I had the vision of the vid for awhile. I took a break from the vid and eventually got distracted by Festivids and then lost all my Wire files. In any case, I still had the project file and when my other Challenge ideas didn't work out and I had limited time, I figured this would be a good vid for many of the themes with my first being Fuck You, then IDIC and Transformation. I replaced some clips from earlier seasons and filled in a few black spots and was able to get this vid in for Challenge. I'm mostly happy with it although it's weird having made most of it awhile ago. I'm just glad to finally have finished it and have released my first (emphasis on first) Wire vid!

New vid: Past the Feeling (Once Upon a Time) |
[Aug. 20th, 2013|11:50 am] |
Title: Past the Feeling Music: "The Suburbs" by Mr Little Jeans (Arcade Fire Cover) Fandom: Once Upon a Time S1-2 Focus: Regina, Regina/Emma Summary: Sometimes I can't believe it, I'm moving past the feeling. Content Notes: None. Notes: Premiered at Vividcon 2013 Premieres. Thanks to killabeez for help with the audio editing. Download Link: Past the Feeling (80 MB AVI)
AO3 | Tumblr
So this is the vid I started after I fell in love with Regina/Emma and OUAT back in September 2012. I heard this song and thought it was beautiful and the lyrics fit Regina so much. Even though the song is less emotional than my usual choice, I was excited to get a chance to focus more on aesthetics and work on fading clips together more like bradcpu does which I've wanted to do for awhile. I set down some clips in the fall and had fun vidding it without a deadline. Of course then the OUAT exchange and Festivids happened so I stopped working on it and then OUAT annoyed me and took away my precious Swan Queen and I was not feeling like finishing it. But the S2 finale was super, super shippy for them and re-energized me so when my Premieres idea didn't work out and I ended up having less time than I expected, I thought finishing this would be a great vid to submit for Premieres. I didn't have as much time as I hoped as I spent most of it on my Auction vid but I'm glad I got to practice a different style than my usual and I'm really happy with some of the things I did in this. I still would like to get a good beta and improve the vid but not sure when/if that will happen.

New vid: I Love It (Glee) |
[Aug. 19th, 2013|10:18 pm] |
Title: I Love It Music: Icona Pop Fandom: Glee S1-3 Focus: Ensemble Summary: I love Glee. Content Notes: Quick cuts Notes: Premiered at Club Vivid at Vividcon 2013. Fanart in vid found here: here. Download Link: I Love It (40 MB AVI)
AO3 | Tumblr
So I first heard this song on a Songza playlist before it became popular on the radio (really!) and I realize it's a perfect expression of my love for Glee. It gave me a great oppurtunity to vid the dancing scenes again and work on vidding faster than I usually do plus I really wanted to dance to it at Club Vivid. I had fun listening and watching all my favorite songs again although clipping took forever (perfectionist here) and general life upheaval made it take a lot longer than I wanted so I had to cut the song done especially when I realized I had less meta stuff to say about the show. I was happy to be able to put a little bit of the love the fans including I have for the show as well as focus on one of my favorite parts, the gay. I wish I had more time and space to put all my favorite dance scenes in this but it was good to put some of it in there.

Vividcon Panel and Vid Review Notes 2013 (part 2) |
[Aug. 19th, 2013|09:49 pm] |
Here are my panel and vid review notes (part 2) for Vividcon 2013. I missed the Audio Editing and Perspective panels so hopefully others took notes on them. I did my best at hearing and typing as accurately as I could but sometimes people had quiet voices or I couldn't type fast enough so these are not perfect transcriptions especially as they are not completely proofread. If you see something and want it corrected (or credit), feel free to let me know as I'd love for it to be more accurate.

Vid up for auction! |
[Mar. 25th, 2013|01:27 pm] |
So I'm offering myself up for the Vividcon Auction this year, for the first time ever. Because I'm crazy, I'm offering up a LOT of fandoms including a ton of TV. The full list is under the cut:
( Full list of fandoms and what exactly I'm offering )
You can bid on me here. The auction closes on 3/30/13 at 11:59PM Eastern Time but don't wait to the very last second as the server may not be able to handle it. I am looking forward to vidding something from this list! If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask me. I basically just want to vid a fandom I like so I'm open to a lot. There's 5 other amazing vidders on that list too so if I'm not offering something you want, check out the others as they might offer it!
Besides that, just kind of tired of life beating me down right now. I wish I could fast forward to the time when I have a job I like and hopefully am in a relationship. I love Lost Girl a LOT but sometimes it's just hard watching Bo/Lauren when I want that so much. |

So I finally have time and the inclination to post here about some of the things I've been up to. The time thing is mostly because I'm not working at my job anymore. It wasn't working out on either end and I'm really looking forward to finding an in person, salaried job at a good company that can actually pay me decently. I was really overwhelmed at first in terms of looking for a job and sometimes still am but I'm feeling better about it now. It seems that the last year of networking I've been doing in the LA tech scene is starting to pay off as I now have a lot of people I can reach out for help and who have offered to help. There's a job I reeeeally want and I'm kind of terrified of being rejected from it but I'm getting better at feeling like if it doesn't happen, it'll all work out along a different great path. And happy coincidences like a job fair this weekend is extra awesome. I am ever so grateful to be in a field where there's high demand for my skills, it makes it a lot less stressful than it would for me.
Last weekend was a lot of fun! I went to Once Upon a Time Paley Fest with elipie and rhoboat and it turned my feelings of the show to mostly anger to full of FEELS! I still have major issues with what the show is doing (not enough gay, stupid blood > adoption family stuff, Regina's misery as a plot devise) but at a certain point I can let go of expectations and just enjoy the things I love mostly REGINA omg how does Lana Parilla exist? She's hot onscreen but in person she is an absolute goddess not to mention hilarious, adorable and kind. Of course we sat behind some of the most dedicated fans of Lana and Regina so it was good for me to have other people to cheer with and Lana kept LOOKING at us and giving smiles of encouragement and the Evil Regal sign and I seriously felt like I was going to melt with squee. At the end, I managed to crawl over the seats to get close enough to Lana to get her autograph and try to shout things up at her. I hope in the future to get another chance to actually talk to her. I got pretty close to JMo but she left so I talked with Jane Espenson and put in my plug for an actual gay fairytale couple on the show (and happiness for Regina). We'll see what happens...I also connected with one of the fans in front of me in the hope of finding in person Swan Queen fans and a couple of her friends were! So that's encouraging to not feel so alone in it.
Job hunting does make it hard to find time to vid so that's a problem as there's like 5 vids I'm trying to get done in the next two months. One of them is an epic Game of Thrones vid that's gotten me headfirst back into Game of Thrones love, just in time for S3 coming in 23 days eeee! I'm just worried about getting it finished along with two other vids before the April Vividcon deadline. I've also volunteered for Vividcon auction with an insane amount of fandoms so I'm looking forward to doing that for the first time. Reeeally can't wait to go to VVC! There's nothing like hanging out with vidfans. I did go to Escapade a couple weeks ago and that was wonderful! I met some awesome new people as well as got a chance to talk to friends from past years. The vidshow and vid panels and vid review were all wonderful as well and gave me a small taste of Vividcon.
On a dream come true note, I'm so happy about the news that Whose Line is coming back with the original cast! RYAN AND COLIN TOGETHER ON MY SCREEN AGAIN! This show seriously saved me from senioritis back in high school in 2006 and I've wanted a revival to happen for the last 7 years. It's my biggest RPF ship and getting new Ryan/Colin slash with the original games will be wonderful. I've also been loving Parks & Recreation which has been wonderful the last few episodes (except for the Ann plot ughh don't get me started). Unfortunately Glee has been frustrating me more and more with the bad song choices, plots I don't like and not getting me to a emotional place like it used to do. I knew my love for the show wouldn't last forever but it's still disappointing. At least it's no less gay and I'm still loooving Kurt/Blaine, Santana/Britney, Kurt/Adam and Santana/Quinn not to mention Unique <3 The Big Bang Theory has been funnier lately but it's been driving me CRAZY with the increased amounts of sexism. I'm so glad they added more female geek characters but it doesn't make up for that. On the new shows front, I have been convinced by beerbad to keep watching Bunheads which has gotten a lot better over the last few episodes and feels more like Gilmore Girls now along with Parenthood which I'm starting to like a lot more after the first few episodes.
Happy International Women's Day! I went to a Women in Engineering event last night and it was so much fun to be surrounded by women mostly involved in computer science all together. I had drinks with a group of women trying to help other women learn Ruby/Ruby on Rails and it was great to feel like part of a community that's trying to help solve a frustrating lack of diversity problem. It's a slow process but hopefully it can only get better from here. And I'm so thankful to be in fandom surrounded by so many amazing women (and awesome guys) all supporting each other and being creative. I am ever so thankful I found this wonderful place :) |

So this year at Vividcon was one of the best years ever for me. This got pretty long so kudos to everyone who reads the whole thing. And even if I forgot to mention you (sorry!), I loved getting to see everyone and thanks to everyone who made this such a fantastic con for me!
( Vividcon 2012 Con Report )
All in awesome, it was an AMAZING con, probably my third favorite one after my first two. It was great having three vids this year that seemed to get good reactions and it was amazing to be surrounded by people I loved no matter if I had just met or if I see them every year. I felt deeply a part of a community made even more apparent by the amazing LA vid community that I'm a part of and love. I loved so many new vids this year and I felt surrounded by amazing people to get to know wherever I went. It was great to reconnect with people, to laugh and cry and love all these familiar and new vids together and just have the beautiful sense of meaning and happiness. It reaffirmed that I want to keep being a part of this amazing community and contribute ALL THE VIDS I have inside me to it and keep improving my vidding skills. Once again, Vividcon is the BEST EVER! Only 362 (?) days until the next Vividcon...and I'm already thinking about vids to premiere there! |

New Vid: Forever Yours |
[Aug. 14th, 2012|12:30 am] |
So I made this vid for me. I wanted to share it with everyone but I definitely vidded my id here. I first thought of this three years ago after S5 when I was in love with House/Wilson and kept hearing songs on the radio that reminded me of them that House would totally make fun of. And yet he would actually sincerely believe them to be true. Or perhaps that's the 12 year old hardcore shipper in me talking. In any case, each song represented a special part of their relationship for me but didn't interest me enough to make an entire vid so I decided to shorten them all and put together a concept to bring them all together. Of course clipping the vid (with 5 seasons) took a long time and I eventually didn't finish in time for Premieres.
Flash forward to last May when I had stopped watching House halfway through S6 and decided to watch the series finale just to see what House/Wilson we'd get...and yeah, after that I had to finish this vid for Premieres this year because if I didn't I'd never get this vid done and I've always regretted not finishing it. Now I'm glad I didn't (because of the extra perfect clips I got) even if it took me FOREVER to clip 8 seasons and I felt completely rushed getting it done. Plus I had some massive tech trouble in the middle of it which is never fun. It didn't turn out quite as funny as I saw in my head but in the end I just believe in them too sincerely to go too far into funny (at least at the moment). So this is my Lord King Bad Vid turned pouring my heart and soul out into an epic vid about my favorite slash pairing of all time.

New vid: Dead and Gone |
[Aug. 14th, 2012|12:08 am] |
So if you haven't heard by now, I LOVE Game of Thrones. All it took was reading the books and watching S2 and I started having major Arya Stark feelings. The kind of feels that make her your number one female character of all time, so much love. In order to keep myself from endlessly reblogging Arya fanart on Tumblr and annoying all my friends talking about how ARYA IS THE BEST, I made this vid which successfully allowed me to release all my emotions. It originated when I saw a post on Tumblr with lots of gifs of Arya and Ned which melted my heart and made me realize all she wants now is to go hooome. So I started looking for a song that had a "trying to find my way back home" theme which reminded me of "Dead and Gone" by T.I. which led me looking to find a cover which I found on Youtube. It was a little slower than I was going for at first but I really loved being able to vid the more emotional part of her storyline. This vid makes even me cry (especially the Jon Snow parts) and I just identify with Arya way, way too much (I'm okay with that). It was SO hard to keep this a secret for Challenge but I'm glad I did! I've never had a more emotional vidwatching experience than that.

New vid: Like a G6 |
[Aug. 13th, 2012|11:21 pm] |
Here is the first of my Vividcon vids. This one was unusual for me in that I had the song first and looked for the fandom and idea since I really wanted to dance (drunk) to this song at Club Vivid. I went through my list of fandoms and found Breaking Bad-which fit surprisingly well lyrics well and then a certain lyric bridge match captured my heart and I knew I had to vid this. Originally I had something a little more visually stunning but the narrative took a hold of me and it turned out a little bit different than what I originally envisioned. Mostly I really enjoyed rewatching the series (omg so amazing) and vidding Walt and Jesse who I grew to love even more over the course of the vid.

Wow it's been awhile. But some kind of update is in order. Most importantly, VIVIDCON IS IN A WEEK!!! I'm still in shock that I'll be in Chicago this time next week. I'll be at the hotel sometime around 5pm or so and I can't hang wait to hang out with people! Not to mention get a ton of my favorite Pad Thai ;) I just can't wait for CLUB VIVID and PREMIERES and getting to forget about work and life and focus on friends and so many of my favorite people. I have a Club Vivid and Premieres vid this year that I'm really happy with (it took a little distance first though) and I'm planning on wearing an actual costume this year, should be interesting. It'll certainly be unique haha. I leave on Monday morning at like 5:30am....yeah work made me come back but I didn't want to miss the late night fun on Sunday as I deeply regretted that the first time I came to Vividcon. I just need my four days damnit, I want to talk to ALL THE PEOPLE.
The other big thing is I moved into a new apartment! I'm living with jetpack_monkey and echan in Downtown LA! It's aweeeeesome. I love living with other fans and even better VID fans so we can watch vids and TV and vid together whenever. I love having my own bedroom and the building is great with a pool and gym and parking which is soo nice after dealing with horrible street parking for three months. Plus I'm in DTLA!!! This is literally my favorite place in the entire world. I love being right in the center of everything, with all these tall buildings all around me. For me tall buildings make me feel like anything is possible, that your dreams can take you ANYWHERE. And there's so much energy, people and shops and amaaazing restaurants and life and growth. Downtown is in the middle of a renaissance and I can't wait to be part of it. There's something special about living in the place you want to help improve. And today I realized I really need to start getting involved in it.
Work is still going good (really time consuming though) and I'm really happy to be continuing to learn and grow and learn what startup life is like. Plus I'm making more money so it's really nice to have more spare money for fun stuff (like vacations! and fooood). It's also been a LOT of fun the last few months to hang out with and vid with elipie, jetpack_monkey, osaraba and rhoboat. It helps so much to vid when you have another vidfan beside you who you can show vidding stuff to as you do it and talk about vid struggles and watch TV and vids together. It's just great to have a little LA vidding community going and I hope it keeps getting bigger. I've also been watching a lot of Olympics lately, mostly gymnastics since it's my FAVORITE. I used to play gymnastics as a kid and I loooooooooved the uneven bars. Like part of the reason I quit (maybe the only one I don't remember) was because I was forced to do everything else and not just the bars. So during the Olympics I always get super invested in one person and the USA team as a whole. Last time it was Nastia Liukin and this time it's Gabby Douglas who is AMAZING and ( Spoilers for Women's All Around ) She's just so high flying at the bars and she just has the IT factor that I love. So happy for the US team. Wish Jordan could have competed but I'm glad Gabby made it in.
Fandom-wise I'm kind of behind and not as invested as I used to be but I do have a new fandom I'm in love with...Game of Thrones. I was into it before but after reading all the books and now I'm in the midst of vidding it and reading fic and I just loooove it. I have that fannish urge to get totally consumed by the books, TV, vidding, fic, actors, all of it but I just don't have time right now sadly. Hopefully when lianri comes to LA after VVC (!!!! sooo excited), we can geek out about it together and that'll help. I'm also loving Breaking Bad...except I'm an episode behind because of the Olympics and work and trying to get some sleep. I need to remedy this soon because I love this season so far! Ohhhh Jesse. And Walt is creepy and awesome and horrible and entertaining all at the same time. So glad to see all these people again. I've also gotten into One Direction fandom (thanks to elipie) for awhile now and I looove Harry/Louis. Harry is a freaking feminist prince (plus insanely pretty) and Louis is hilarious and cute and willing to do anything. I went to a concert (guess with who) and had a fun time screaming and going crazy over them and the serious slash. Other things I've been watching is Bunheads, Political Animals, The Glee Project (Nellie!! and Charlie!!), Newsroom (I've stopped, not sure if I'm going to try again) and I've been catching up on Homeland. Oh and I watched the LA Complex premiere and I totally totally am shipping Connor/Raquel!! Awww.
Finally, fic recs!! Because lately I've gotten some GLORIOUS fic from people that everyone should read. First up, two Jaime/Brienne fics of AWESOME. There is the spy who loved (to drive) me (crazy) ie the SPY AU and hold my hand as I'm lowered where Jaime never shuts up (awwww he doesn't, does he?). Both hilarious and totally true to character. And then.... thingswithwings wrote me my ultimate femslash fic!!! It's called Concession and it's LESLIE/JENNIFER!!!! Yeah you read that right, to the best of my knowledge the first Leslie/Jennifer fic ever and it's amaaaaaazing. God I love them. Leslie is just entirely Leslie and Jennifer is Jennifer and they are competing political advisors who are secretly attracted to each other and just read it and be amazed (bonus: it's really hot). While you're at it, go watch her Parks and Rec/Community female relationships vid as well, it's wonderful!
And for my birthday in October I'm going to Colorado to hang out with asuka14! I can't wait. Going to stop in Las Vegas on the way home to gamble a bit ;) Mmm traveling. |

I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise, to fly |
[Apr. 2nd, 2012|03:54 pm] |
So I'm back in Los Angeles. SO HAPPY!!! There's something about this city that makes me feel alive, energized, inspired, whole and fulfilled. The beautiful, wonderful weather helps a lot too. Sunny and 70s!!! It makes me want to dance on the streets of LA or drive with my windows down and sing as loud as I can (I may have done one or both of those things). It's just really good to be back. I took the PCH down from San Francisco even though it took longer and it was SO worth it. It was so beautiful to see the hills, forest, mountains, countryside, cliffs and best of all, the ocean. Wow, it looked even more beautiful than I remembered especially around the Big Sur area. Also got a chance to check out Santa Cruz and Monterey although it sadly got dark before Santa Barbara. It was really nice to get to see the coast again, I haven't done it since 2007 (with a great WL roadtrip!). The night before I also had fun as I went to a gay club in the Castro as it didn't feel like a real San Francisco trip without that. I had too much to drink but someone who I thought was hot danced with me briefly so that was cool. Also I went to Yosemite a couple weeks ago and had fun climbing 5000 ft of mountains. My legs hurt like hell the next two days but it was so worth it and I got some awesome pictures. I did get lost a little in the dark one night but it turned out alright in the end so I can look back on it in a good light now. The falls were so pretty!
I was planning on going back to college but I've had some trouble getting into classes I need so I've decided to not do that and just try to get a web developer job instead. It may take me a few months so I'm going to look for something more temporary in the meantime. I'm really excited about it! The last month has been a lot of fun learning Rails and various parts of the stack and I'm excited about continuing to do it in a Los Angeles environment. Plus I can't wait to hang out with vidders in the area! It's sooo nice to be home.
On top of it, TV is back! I just finished reading Game of Thrones yesterday and although I tried to start the second book, I finally gave in and watched the S2 premiere. It's funny, when I read the 1st book I thought I would have enjoyed the first season more if I had read the books first but now I'm thinking it's better to NOT read the books. Reason being I'm a believer that TV/movies should VERY closely follow the books so little things like dialogue reeeally bother me when they change things or leave stuff out. Part of the problem is I'm reading the books way too close to when I see the TV show as then I remember and get annoyed at everything. For example, I enjoyed the last Harry Potter movie much more because I don't remember a lot of the little specifics of what happened and just enjoyed it for what it was. But anyways, I did love the GoT premiere. The books made me like all the characters a LOT more and now the only one I hate is Joffrey (omg I hope he dies soon). So that's awesome. Arya is still my most favorite ever and I can't wait to see more of her. Also enjoying Mad Men (PEGGY!) although I'm only half through the most recent episode. Sundays are SO awesome now! I do miss Parks & Rec :( Come baaaaaack. Thursdays suck now.
I also went to see the midnight showing of The Hunger Games and LOVED it. No movie could capture the magic of the first book but I loved that it did a great job staying true to the book (they did the smart thing and gave the author screenwriting duties). All of my worries about the casting were thrown away quickly as all the actors totally sold their characters. It was all really beautiful, fun to watch and great to watch with a group of people laughing, crying and making funny comments in all the right places. And I'm so happy it did amazing at the box offic, I KNEW it would. I'm hoping to see it again once I do a reread of the first book which I read in one sitting back in July. If you haven't read it yet, READ IT! It's so addicting and fun to read. Katniss is SO awesome although Cinna is my favorite.
I've been hard at work vidding...vids that are NOT my Club Vivid vid. OOPS. The good news is one of them is almost done and I'm out of the honeymoon phase so I can devote some more time to getting that done along with maybe some other vids I'm working on. It was so much fun to get addicted to vidding something without a deadline and just be into my ship SO MUCH and enjoy seeing them all the time while vidding. It's good to be more productive vidwise again. If anyone want a vid made to order, check out the Vividcon Auction vidders here, there's so many that I wish I had more money to buy!
I still can't believe I'm back here in LA after dreaming about it for two months. There's no place like home... |

Tumblr: take 2 |
[Feb. 19th, 2012|07:58 pm] |
So I've made a few efforts to set up Tumblr and start using it but those have failed miserably. I am trying again though because I feel like fandom is moving there at least somewhat and I don't want to get left behind and feel old which is just weird to say at my age. So my Tumblr is: here and feel free to follow if you like. I get bored pretty easily by a lot of pictures so I don't know how often I'll post but I'll at least check it every day. Please let me know what your Tumblr's name is if you have one. There's a poll in my LJ if that makes it easier.
I've been super busy these days so I feel kind of out of fandom. Still keeping up on a my shows for the most part at least Glee, New Girl, Modern Family, Happy Endings, Revenge, Parks & Rec, The Office, The Big Bang Theory, 30 Rock and The LA Complex. Speaking of, I definitely urge everyone to check out The LA Complex! I don't want to spoil anyone but there's a great gay plot on there that I'm currently in love with even when it destroys my heart. Plus it has Jewel Strait! It's all about a group of Canadien kids trying to make it in the entertainment industry in Hollywood. It makes me miss Los Angeles even more which I've been doing a lot lately. San Francisco is just no substitute. I don't think I've ever felt quite this homesick in awhile and it made me realize I almost always get homesick only for LA.
I'm all signed up for Vividcon! Cannot wait to go. Also looking forward to Escapade this weekend. It'll be SO nice to get to talk to fans again and watch vids. I'll be interested to see what people get out of my premiere vid this year. Escapade is much less panel heavy than Vividcon for me so I'm hoping to have more time to talk to people there. Also going to stop in Downtown LA after (even though its at least an hour drive) to see my city again as like I mentioned, I miss it like burning.
Been kind of tired lately, my body keeps finding ways to wake up and not getting back to sleep so it's been a struggle to get sleep which is hard when I'm learning all the time. Things are going good though and I enjoyed getting a chance to hang out with laurashapiro the other day. I've been enjoying all the delicious food here in SF as well and I found a great cafe/lounge here with a fireplace, good food, fast internet/outlets and colored lights which I love. I have so little time that I'm starting to have to prioritize more and only do the essential stuff. I am very grateful for my iPhone so I can keep up on social networking/fandom while walking around everywhere. We'll see what happens.
Thanks to everyone who sent me glass hearts! They are much appreciated. |

Vividcon 2011 Con Report |

So another Vividcon has come and gone. Here is my con report on it. I'm fuzzier with details and people this year but I wanted to type something about it up. Thank you to everyone for all the hugs and talks throughout the con, it really helped after that awful Thursday.
( VVC 2011 Con Report )
So I'm back in Syracuse now. It's weird. I'm really nostalgic but at the same time, it's reminding me why I need to be in LA. Really tired as I got very limited amounts of sleep last night although I took a nap that helped a lot. Looking forward to taking some time off working and getting some stuff done as well as spending time with my darling cats (I'm dying in cat squee and cat hugs right now) and friends. I'm at the post-VVC point where you fill overwhelmed with the amount of con stuff and vidstuff there still is to do. So I'm working on it one thing at a time for now.
So I have a problem and I need some advice. Like I said, all my source for my Premieres vid is back in LA which I won't have access to for about a week and a half. All I have with me is my con version of the file, a m2v and wav file. Unfortunately I've tried to switch the aspect ratio and it is not coming out right. Should I wait and upload it later or upload that version right now as a temporary file? I hate having wrong copies of my vids floating out there but I hate making people wait. Argh so frustrated right now. Or if anyone knows how to fix it (from 4:3 to 16:9 from what I understand), that'd be the best solution.
It's interesting things being up in the air as they are now. Trying to get everything taken care of and then try to work out how best to proceed from here. |

Running and RL |
[Mar. 25th, 2011|12:36 pm] |
So it's been a pretty epic week for me. Last Sunday I ran the Los Angeles Marathon and it was pretty amazing even if I was hit by a heavy dose of bad luck.
( More on the story of how I completed the marathon )
I also just created a new community, socalvids for vid fans in the Southern California area who want to get together to watch and discuss vids. I really hope if you're in the area that you'll consider joining as I'd love to help create more of a community of people who love vids in socal. I know we're out there, we're just spread out and it'd be so fun to watch vids in a group again!
I'm also really excited about Vividcon this August! I'm sure it's going to be super fun and I'm excited about the vids I want to premiere there.
I saw Sucker Punch last night and I'd definitely recommend it if you like to see girls kicking ass with guns, swords and other weaponery as well as super, AMAZING visuals and a great soundtrack. Story might not be the best but it worked enough for me. Also glad to see more people joining The Social Network fandom! It really is a great fandom. I really need to hurry up and finish my vid for it (or one of them).
Mostly I am SUPER excited about finally getting a car on April 1st. It is almost too good to be true after dying for one since October. I can get around anywhere! I don't have to take buses anymore! I can meet more people and go to events and have FUN! This is the best present I could ever get. Also work is going really well as I GOT THE SCHEDULING JOB! I was the only one to get the chance so I am ecstatic. And I'm getting along and becoming more friends with people at work which is really great in making me feel like I belong. I just feel I'm really developing as a person there and carying those lessons in leadership, initiative and social skills to the rest of my life. So yeah, haven't got as much done in my life as I hoped in the beginning of the year but I'm getting things done slowly and I'm positive about the changes in my life so I'll take it. Now I just need to find a way to make more money and I'll be really good...(suggestions appreciated). |
