Actor spotting, Sweet Charity, Episodic TV and Vid meme

So after watching Friday Night Lights (*love*), I found Remember the Titans, one of my favorite movies I have watched many times. And there's actual football in it which I know FNL has cut down on for ratings sake but I still selfishly wish there was more (I really need to check out Playmakers one of these days). Anyways, to my surprise I start recognizing people I'd never noticed before. There's AVON from THE WIRE!!! There's CLAIRE from Heroes! (omg so cute) There's Turk from Scrubs! There's Randy from My Name is Earl! (who I recognize from watching the show or end of it or previews of it before The Office last year). And then there's Kip Purdue and Ryan Gosling who I've seen in various movies/vids. . Julius (AVON!!) and Gerry are no less slashier than they were when I first saw them. Gotta love it.

So I decided to offer myself for bidding at Sweet Charity. It's for the Writer's Guild Foundation helping out people affected by the Writer's Strike but aren't a member of the union. I really believe in helping people in the entertainment industry considering how much happiness they bring me and fandom so I urge you to consider bidding on people starting January 18th and running til the 26th. Here is my description:

I will do one vid in the following fandoms: Angel the Series, Arrested Development, Brokeback Mountain, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cupid, Due South, Firefly, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, Highlander (Methos episodes only), House (no House/Cameron, Cameron), How I Met Your Mother, Little Mis Sunshine, Project Runway, Pushing Daisies, Queer as Folk (no romantic Brian/Michael), Smallville (S1-3 only), The Office, The Wire, Torchwood (no Owen or Gwen), Ugly Betty, Veronica Mars (S1 only).

Provide me one song (or more if you want me to choose) in any genre you want although I prefer something that isn't overused (along the lines of Bring Me to Life or Chasing Cars).

I can do gen, slash, het, femslash and canon gay. No constructed reality/AU please. Give me as much or as little direction as you prefer. Examples of my vids can be found here: My Vids.

So if you want me to make a vid for you, bid for me! My deadline is March 31st so I can finish your vid before the deadlines of Vividcon start coming up. I will do whatever you want me to do with those guidelines above.

On a random note I watched the Pilot of Homicide: Life on the Street. It only confirmed to me that I HATE episodic TV especially when it's cop/procedural based with no overriding season/series arc. I do of course love Frank and I liked the salami guy and I can see semblances of The Wire in it but the boring murder cases put me off. I will probably try it at a later time especially the ones David Simon actually wrote but for now, not for me. I did listen to So Pure the other day and I looove that song and wish I could see the vid again. Maybe at DIY, I hope? Also I'm working on Farscape again. It's haaaard because the episodes are episodic and kind of boring as I don't really know the characters yet (my favorite so far is Aeryn for the record). I'm trying to hold out til A Human Reaction as I hear that's a really good episode but so far I'm on the 6th episode so I have ten to go. I know I'm going to kick myself for going slow on this show but what can you do.

And last, vid meme: The Favorite Vid meme: "comment here with a link to your vids, and I will tell you which vid of yours is my favorite, and why." Also if you know I read your fic, then you can comment for the fic version.

Ryan Gosling who I've seen in various movies/vids.
I will always think of him as one of the actors of Breaker High, no matter how many other shows/movies he does. Same with the guy who plays Sock on Reaper :P

As for Sweet Charity, good for you. Is this you're first time vidding for it? I've done it twice, and but I've come to the realization that I'm no longer good at vidding on deadlines :S So I don't know if I'll be able to do it again.

The Favorite Vid meme: "comment here with a link to your vids, and I will tell you which vid of yours is my favorite, and why."
Umm, I'm interested. My vids are Ma href="hettp://www.parakaproductions.com">here

Haha same here! I actually watched a little of that show on youtube because I had fond memories of watching it. It's bad but it's fun. And THAT'S where I recognize Sock! Hadn't figured it out yet.

Yep, my first time. Deadlines help me actually finish things (see VVC deadline) but it's definitely hard with the pressure sometimes. I'd just like to do something for a charity I support while I have flexibility in my vidding plans.

My favorite of yours would be Hurt. I think the song really works for Brian and you did a great job matching the lyrics, making parallels and showing who Brian is. And on a side note, I adore Hair and I Just Want for the brilliant song choice and clips.

I have this rule. I'm not allowed to go back and watch things that I liked when I was younger. It almost always leads to disappointment (the only exception I can think of was when my little sister and I rewatched Gargoyles, and it wasn't nearly as cheesy as I was expecting).

And THAT'S where I recognize Sock! Hadn't figured it out yet.
Oh! You watch Reaper! I *love* that show!

Deadlines help me actually finish things
Yeah, they used to for me, then I just started blowing them off, and that just led to disappointment :S
But I totally support *others* and their deadlines :P

My favorite of yours would be Hurt.
You know, that's the only vid I've made that I can't watch anymore. Mostly because it seems to be most people's favourite, and when I watch it, all I can see are the mistakes. I should go back and remaster it sometime so it's less cringe worthy.

And OMG "I Just Want" I always forget about that vid. It was the first one I ever made, and I'm not ashamed of it, but, I just can't take it seriously (not that it ever was supposed to be) I totally did it on a dare from a friend, and so began my vidding career.

Hair was one of those vids made at an auction, and I just couldn't really believe it when I saw they wanted a vid about Justin's hair.

See for me I still love the show on its nostalgic merits. I don't mind it not be that great as long as it's entertaining. As for Reaper, I've only seen the Pilot. I may catch up with it but it's in the back of the line as it didn't completely grab me.

Oh I've been there with deadlines and school. Once habits form so you don't take them seriously, you're screwed. But the fannish ones are important to me and this being for money is even more important to me. I'm feeling more vidding productive lately so hopefully that will help. I know what you mean about vids, I don't normally watch my vids for both overexposure and pointing out mistakes. I definitely would recommend remastering, once I tweaked my VVC vid online I felt better about it. I Just Want is just SO BRIAN, it's hilarious. Sometimes vidding really is all about song choice. And people obsess about Justin's hair all the time so I get it lol. It's like obsessing over Brian's abs ;)

What is a vid?

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's a video, a music video with a song and video from a TV or movie source usually edited for fannish purposes. Also called fanvids or video mashups.

Well, then. I'm especially looking forward to your one for Arrested Development. ;)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well it won't necessarily be for Arrested Development. Only if the highest bidder who buys me asks for a vid to that show.

[identity profile] indybaggins.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
All right, my vids (although really, I'm not a good vidder) are at youtube (http://nl.youtube.com/results?search_query=indybaggins) and my fics are linked to from my journal. I'm curious :)

WL is really hard to vid so I'm impressed you even do it (well!) My favorite vid of yours is Foolish Games. I think the song choice works really well with the games double meaning and you use the lyrics nicely with all the matching and clip choice. It's very cute and I don't even ship them so you did a good job.

Keeping in mind I almost never read fic that doesn't include Ryan/Colin, my favorite of yours is probably Long Last Looks closely followed by Missing Vancouver. Long Last Looks to me is the epitome of the angst of Ryan and Colin and kills me everytime. So freaking sad. And Missing Vancouver is so beautiful (I love what you do with rain) and well structured and leaves me with happiness among the sad. You write so well!

Yay! *bounces a little* Thank you for loving me :)

I love Farscape, but it is a little slow going in the first season. And I think it's probably not for everyone. There are some really great episodes, but for every one that's blow-your-mind amazing, there's one that's equally sucktastic. It's strange, I've never seen another show with such a dichotomy in quality. Also, I hadn't realized A Human Reaction was that late -- but I think it is worth trying to stick around for.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah that's what I hear. I have to watch it in the end because there's so many great vids to it that I have no chance of understanding without context and I don't want to be spoiled. And I don't mind watching bad episodes if there's good ones in the future (or past). I'm going to keep working on it!
