[Current Music |breaking bad episodes]

It's the last day of the year so you know what means: meme time.

End of the Year Fandom Meme

What fandoms did you acquire in 2014?

How To Get Away With Murder, Hockey RPF (mostly Chicago Blackhawks RPF/Kane/Toews), Transparent, Luther, Soccer RPF (USA/German & Bayern Munich), Veep, Jane the Virgin, Broad City, Faking It, Maleficent, Nashville, American Ninja Warrior, Looking, The Americans, You're the Worst.

What fandoms did you let go of in 2014?

Once Upon a Time (too rage-y with stupid het ships/bad plots), The Blacklist, Modern Family (too many awards when the quality has decreased), The Big Bang Theory (not funny anymore plus too sexist), Downton Abbey and New Girl. Probably letting go of Masters of Sex as I'm bored with it now especially as my ship is gone.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2014? Why?

I started Deadwood and The X-Files but only made it through the beginning episodes of S1. I failed mostly on my planned fandoms because of lack of motivation and laziness mainly. That list would be Borgen, Political Animals, Boardwalk Empire, Rectify, Broadchurch and The Returned (and ohers I don't remember).

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2015?

Keep going with Deadwood and The X-Files. Others I want to try: Penny Dreadful, The Leftovers, Rectify, Outlanders, The Good Wife (HTGAWM has inspired me to check out another lawyer show), Manhattan, possibly others but I make no promises.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2015 unless things significantly improve?

I've had moments where I've thought about quitting Brooklyn 99 because I don't like the het plots and I'm not finding it that funny but I like the characters enough and fandom's really into it so it's sticking around for now. Scanal might be out as well but I think it's just a show I need to binge and not watch every week.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?

Game of Thrones (this was tested last season lol), How To Get Away With Murder, The Mindy Project, Transparent, Luther (unless Idris and Ruth leave the show), Nashville (because Connie Briton), Shameless.

What show impressed you most in 2014?

Transparent was incredible with beautiful characters who were all kinds of messed up, interesting family relationships, LGBT characters, amazing writing and acting and all around awesome show. I highly recommend it! Orange is the New Black was even better than S2 and I can't wait for S3 (Alexxxx!!!). Also The Mindy Project S2 finale was my favorite comedy episode of the year, just hilarious and romantic and perfect.

What show impressed you least in 2014?

Well shout out to Game of Thrones 403 to being the worst fucking book interpretation I've ever seen and completely ruined the show for me for a few months. Oh and HIMYM for being the WORST season finale I've ever seen and completely ruining the show forever for me. Ugh fuck that stupid show. Overall I have to go with Once Upon a Time because of the stupid het and plotting. Just give me my Swan Queen!

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?

Better Call Saul for sure! Really excited about Empire too, that looks to have a lot of things I love. Also Galavant, Agent Carter (I'm done with any superhero shows/movies that don't STAR a woman/POC), Orange is the New Black S3, Mad Men&Glee&Parks series finales and iZombie because Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero (A Trip to the Dentist writer). Movie-wise: Inside Out, Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect 2, Entourage the movie, Sisters (Amy/Tina!!!), Furious 7. Sportswise excited for GERMANY VS USA: Round 2 featuring coach boyfriends Jürgen and Jogi, Gold Cup for USA, Bayern Munich in the Champions League, March Madness for SU and Stanley Cup Playoffs for Blackhawks.

It's going to be a weird year for TV and me. I'm going to be busy with college and other priorities so I don't want to watch things I don't like but I want to be better at watching quality shows and not just watching whatever I feel like. We'll see what happens.

Title: Get Me Bodied
Music: "Get Me Bodied" by Beyoncé
Fandom: The Fifth Element
Focus: Ruby Rhod
Summary: Wanna party, wanna dance, wanna be myself tonight.
Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills)
Notes: Made for [personal profile] bradcpu.

So the backstory behind all the Beyonce was that Brad had mentioned he didn't know who Beyonce was and a bunch of his friends decided we should all make Brad Beyonce vids so he could hear some of her music ([personal profile] elipie will explain this better later). My problem was I had never seen any of Brad's sources but of all of them, The Fifth Element seemed the most likely to be of interest to me and the character seemed to be a good fit for Beyonce. So I saw The Fifth Element...and didn't like it. HOWEVER, I looooved Ruby as the character is basically made for me (confident, flamboyant and sexual? sign me up) so I was still excited to vid him. But then I had to find a song which proved more challenging than you'd expect. I went through all of Beyonce's music but none of my favorite songs seemed to work and I wasn't quite sold on Get Me Bodied at first. But then I realized it was perfect (I love that bridge) especially if I could cut it down right.

I was busy working on all my other Festivids and figured as a movie vid for a character with limited footage, I could vid this quickly the last week of Festivids before GoLive. Of course I waited til the last two days before GoLive and had to clip and vid very, very quickly. It was a LOT of fun though, especially the first section which was all my favorite scenes with Ruby combined in one short little package (one of the best parts of vidding). I was a little worried it might be a bit too slashy for Brad but COME ON, it was too obvious. This was the vid that I ended up staying up til 2 am finishing so that the credits for it is basically a representation of my state of mind at that point. I was really happy people liked it so much and I'm so glad I was able to vid one of my new favorites characters :)

All feedback (including concrit) is much appreciated. Enjoy!

Fandom: The Great Gatsby (2013)

This movie was near the top of the list of movies I wanted to vid for Festivids so I was super happy when I saw [personal profile] linguology had requested it. When I watched the movie in theaters, my favorite two parts were the beautiful visuals (seriously, it's ridiculous) and the perfect soundtrack so I really wanted to make a vid that combined them. I listened to the soundtrack a million times but my top two choices were Can't Stop and Young and Beautiful and neither captured everything I wanted to vid. Now the song I ultimately chose has special meaning to me as I listened to it a lot right before I went bar hopping/clubbing in Berlin and then by some coincidence, as I walked into the club that had one of my favorite life experiences ever, it was the first song playing. It was fate...anyways I figured out this was the perfect song for the vid I wanted to make even if it was a bit on the nose because it has the dancing sections I wanted while having plenty of great lyrics, slower sections and ultimate destruction to include all parts of the movie.

I started vidding it right after Christmas (I had clipped a week earlier) and when I actually focused on finishing it, it went pretty quickly. It was a lot of fun to vid faster than I normally did as well as play with all the gorgeous visuals. I did have some tech trouble encoding the vid which made the day before GoLive a lot more rushed than I had planned but I was glad to get it finished and submitted not to mention very happy with the great reception it received. I really wanted to make a 4 minute vid that I could watch to see all the beautiful images and music without having to sit through a long 2 hour+ movie and I'm relieved that I think I managed to pull it off :)

All feedback (including concrit) is much appreciated. Enjoy!

[Current Music |"Kiss" by the Glee Cast]

So it's been a pretty epic week for me. Last Sunday I ran the Los Angeles Marathon and it was pretty amazing even if I was hit by a heavy dose of bad luck.

More on the story of how I completed the marathon )

I also just created a new community, [community profile] socalvids for vid fans in the Southern California area who want to get together to watch and discuss vids. I really hope if you're in the area that you'll consider joining as I'd love to help create more of a community of people who love vids in socal. I know we're out there, we're just spread out and it'd be so fun to watch vids in a group again!

I'm also really excited about Vividcon this August! I'm sure it's going to be super fun and I'm excited about the vids I want to premiere there.

I saw Sucker Punch last night and I'd definitely recommend it if you like to see girls kicking ass with guns, swords and other weaponery as well as super, AMAZING visuals and a great soundtrack. Story might not be the best but it worked enough for me. Also glad to see more people joining The Social Network fandom! It really is a great fandom. I really need to hurry up and finish my vid for it (or one of them).

Mostly I am SUPER excited about finally getting a car on April 1st. It is almost too good to be true after dying for one since October. I can get around anywhere! I don't have to take buses anymore! I can meet more people and go to events and have FUN! This is the best present I could ever get. Also work is going really well as I GOT THE SCHEDULING JOB! I was the only one to get the chance so I am ecstatic. And I'm getting along and becoming more friends with people at work which is really great in making me feel like I belong. I just feel I'm really developing as a person there and carying those lessons in leadership, initiative and social skills to the rest of my life. So yeah, haven't got as much done in my life as I hoped in the beginning of the year but I'm getting things done slowly and I'm positive about the changes in my life so I'll take it. Now I just need to find a way to make more money and I'll be really good...(suggestions appreciated).

[Current Mood |refreshed]

Happy More Joy Day everyone! I do not have anything special planned but I thought I'd write down a few things lately that have been bringing me joy.

I finished my Festivid! This is huge because it was a big burden on me but after many, many hours of frenzied vidding I finished it before the deadline :D And I really like what I made as well. Great way to start off the vidding year. I want to try to make a treat this year as well although I'm currently trying to finish my Escapade vid (deadline is January 15 if anyone else is working on a vid!) so we'll see what happens.

That being said, I'm going to Escapade! Really excited about being around other fans, both slash and vidding ones. Who else is going? I figured I couldn't not go, me being so close (yay LA!) and all. I am looking for roommates so if anyone needs another person, I am happy to share costs.

I also signed up for the LA marathon and I'm really excited to do it. I've been running pretty consistently the last month or so (rain not included) and I definitely think I can do it by March. I did my first real long run on Tuesday and ran 13 miles! So basically a half marathon so I was psyched was able to do it and run most of it. The great part is I'm running through LA where I can see all the great landmarks from Dodger Stadium to the Santa Monica Pier so that'll make it much more fun. It is also SO nice being able to run in 60s and today, 70 degree weather!

I am making small progress on most of my goals and I thought I'd share two websites that are helping me. The first is, Mindbloom that lets you put actions you want to take either daily or whatever timeframe you want and let's you check them off everytime you do them which gets you more points and grows your "tree". You can take it as seriously as you want, I just like that it keeps me accountable and it's fun to check things off. If you join, let me know your email (or use mine while signing up) so I can add you as a friend! The other is Mint which is an easy way to keep track of finances as it collects all the financial accounts you have (securely) and automatically keeps track of all debit/credit transactions and enters them in your budget. I love things that help you and save me time and work so I think it's great and it's helping keep track of things.

Work is going pretty good as I'm still enjoying the marketing meetings and now planning the crew party which is going to be AWESOME with lots of giveaways. Plus I'm going to go out clubbing with some people at work next week so that should be fun. I'm also finally getting a cafe shift so I'm really happy about that. I watched The Fighter the other day and as expected, it wasn't my thing nor did I think it was that Oscar worthy compared to my favorite but it was good at least and Melissa Leo was amazing and almost unrecognizable from Toni on Treme.

I'm also happy that my TV shows are starting to come back! Modern Family was funny last night especially the Cam/Mitchell parts (how are they so cute???) and I'm dying for more Glee after the Superbowl. Also I enjoyed the premiere of Shameless which was pretty funny and unsurprisingly loved Ian (and am shipping him with both Kash and Lip gah) so looking forward to more of that. And of course this picture is bringing me a lot of joy:

How are they so cute and in looooove?

Boys in Love, movies and life strikes back [Dec. 21st, 2010|05:55 pm]

[Current Music |Mumford and Sons]

So I was probably too soon to post a happiness post because a few days after that, I got hit by a shitload of bad things happening to me. Lost my name badge at work (found again after a few days), constant rain (which I got stuck in twice), lost my debit card (making it impossible for me to buy minutes for my cell phone online which then took forever to find minute cards in a store), missed a bunch of buses (and today had one ride right past me), horrible days at work and now my power is out and will be until tomorrow. RIGHT in the middle of when I was about to be done with clipping and could finally start vidding. Arghhh. It's not like the stuff was devastating or anything, it just drives me crazy when things ruin my plans or keep piling on me making life just On the bright side, I got to hang out with [profile] messyjessie58 and it was so much fun! It's so nice to hang out with fans in RL and the difference between them and people at work can be so great.

Fannishly, I am deeeeep in the honeymoon phase with The Social Network. I'd seen it way back in October but things were crazy then and I was into my Festivid's source at the time and I just didn't get into it on a fannish level. But now....oh god I am IN. I am being attacked by vid bunnies on so many songs, reading fic and am so excited to find other people who love Mark/Eduardo as well as the movie as a whole. But really, both the movie, fandom and myself are are in love with Mark/Eduardo and omg the slash is just SO insane. Clipping it (because yes, I do have a persistent vid idea that I MUST make) has shown me all the LOOKS and the little things as well as the way they are EPICALLY in love with each other. They are just such boyfriends and I am all a-squee because of it. I do wish there was more Mark/Eduardo/Sean stuff out there but I am happy to focus on my boys most of the time. It's just so nice to lose myself in a fandom/pairing again and to want to obsessively focus on it ignoring all other obligations as reckless as that may be.

Also, Andrew Garfield is unnaturally pretty and I am so excited by the Golden Globes nominations and already it's wins in the awards circuit. Also does anyone know if there's a Jesse/Andrew primer out there? I am becoming interested but I am lazy and hate trying to look everywhere for stuff about them. Mostly I love this little fandom and I love how we are all growing it together and now we even have a friending meme, kinkmeme (SOMUCHYAY) and big bang. It's exciting and although I know it's not going to be a huge fandom (although seriously the slash alone should make it one-I love Inception but I still think the slash in that is not even close to this level although the worldbuilding has more storytelling possibilities), I love what it is and participating in it,

SO happy it's Oscar season for once. I saw 127 hours and while I did wish the flashbacks were more meaningful, the directing and acting were amazing. The opening sequence was so awesome. Also I LOVED Black Swan and even though it had a few too many horror moments for me personally, I loved that it made me think. After watching some movies that while entertaining, the writing left much to be desired, it was a nice breath of relief. Planning on watching The King's Speech and The Fighter this week and I'm hoping those will be good. I am dying to watch Somewhere but will either have to wait or go to Hollywood to go see it. On a music note, I've been LOVING Mumford and Sons lately, can't stop listening to their album. It just has the best dynamic changes and it's so listenable as well as the lyrics all remind me of Mark/Eduardo (I swear it IS their relationship). Another album I'm in love with is Kanye West's new one which is just brilliant as usual but I love it much better than the last which just wasn't what I love from Kanye. The College Dropout is still my favorite CD from him (top 5 of all time) but this one has some great songs on it not to mention music videos. The fact that he has a song featuring Bon Iver is only extra cool.

Random WTF of the day: I went into a Best Buy and in the For Him section (don't get me started how fucked up that kind of thing is), there was the complete season of The Wire. THE WIRE!! I mean come on, The Wire is for EVERYONE. And I do mean everyone because I firmly believe every person should watch that show. It just annoys me that they'd put it there because yeah there's a lot of guys in it but it's not a gender specific show at all. But ughh whatever, what is really.

I have taken to watching movies while clipping so I'm looking for recs for good movies to watch. I prefer stuff that's either classic famous, pop culture famous (well written or not) or just something that relates to my interests (ie anything gay and random other stuff). Movies I love include Little Miss Sunshine (stuff like Juno and 500 Days of Summer falls under this I think), The Matrix, Hard Core Logo, Wall-E and Rent (I love musicals). I'm not so much into dumb action movies, dumb comedies (although I did enjoy The Hangover, as offensive as it may be), dumb romantic comedies and stuff like that. Don't hesitate to rec something that's obvious because I haven't seen a ton of popular movies.

So I'm in love with Blaine/Darren Criss. I can't even deal with how I went from yay Glee, I love it all, Kurt love, show love and now I'm just BLAINE BLAINE KURT/BLAINE BLAINE BLAINE I want moooooooore. I am supplementing with Darren Criss and falling more in love with him. And by more I mean obsessed love. How is he REAL??? I've heard about A Very Potter Musical for awhile now but finally am checking it out because he's in it and wrote all the songs (which are totally awesome). He's just so charming and funny and dreamy and kind and talented and adorable and I love him. And his beautiful voice!

The best part is I'm going to see a live show by DARREN CRISS!! Tomorrow night, sooo excited. I am so lucky that it's after work and I have just enough time and money to get there. I am going to FREAK. There is nothing like seeing your favorite people live RIGHT at the time you're completely into them and in love. It just makes it so much more real. I will try to get some pictures and video and definitely report back, I am trying not to die at the thought that it's possible I could *meet* him. It's just super exciting and makes me extra glad I'm in LA right now.

All I can say is sometimes I will take the dream, the romantic fantasy because sometimes you just NEED it. It makes me happy :)

Also I saw Inception and 500 Days of Summer (the Joseph Gordon-Levitt connection was fun) yesterday and enjoyed both a lot. They've been on my list for awhile now and I thought each of them did some great stuff. Plus they helped me work out some issues I've been thinking about lately so I'm grateful for that. Might talk about them later but I'm getting 6 hours of sleep (max) tonight so I've got to go to bed.

Darren Criss tomorrow OMFG!

Quick Things:

-Mad Men premiere tonight!!! 10 pm, don't forget. I'm sooo excited. I love this show and it grew on me and grew on me and now I'm actually rewatching S1 which I barely ever do so soon. It's the greatest before bedtime show when you need something slow that will make you pay close attention to everything.

-Going to see The Dark Knight (HEATH) and Wall-E tonight in a movie double feature with [livejournal.com profile] lianri. Should be fun and hopefully I will like both. I watched Batman Begins and I have to say that I didn't really like it as although the darkness was nice, it was kind of lame especially in the dialogue and I HATED the "romance". So, so glad they're replacing Katie Holmes. I don't find Christian Bale very attractive either although he looked okay in this movie.

-Down two pant sizes! It's awesome. I have decided I'm going to run the LA marathon next March so I am working on running to train for that.

-I reeeeeeeally miss California. Like, reading about it or gazing longingly at live cams of it makes me cry kind of miss. Again, not the weather just the palm trees (not that either, Burn Notice doesn't do much for me), the entertainment capitol, the atmosphere, the streets, the beaches, everything is perfect to me. It's my home and I should not be away from it! I'll be back in January/February.

-I'm catching up on Psych (in S2) now and it's so much fun. First season I was enjoying the Shawn/Gus slash but late in S1, it switched over to Shawn/Lassiter and now I loove them. I have a little crush on Lassie and I just love the prickly love/hate thing they have going on. Should be done with it by the next new episode.

I love summer TV if I haven't mentioned that already. Project Runway, Burn Notice, Stargate Atlantis, Flashpoint, Mad Men, Psych, it's allll good.

So on Saturday I finally watched Hard Core Logo and Wilby Wonderful which have been on the top of my list for awhile now. And wow, CKR=HOT.

Spoilers for Hard Core Logo )

So I finally got to watch all the vids I know of (any recs?) and [livejournal.com profile] katallison fic which was amazing as usual. I definitely recommend the movie if you haven't seen it!

Spoilers for Wilby Wonderful: And then there's a kiss, right? )

So I need some recs for your favorite fun, entertaining movies. Especially movies that are fannish, classic, famous, gay storyline/boykissing or have been used in vids I know of. I was thinking of watching one the other day but realized I didn't have any on my (mental) list.

[Current Music |"Heart of Funkness" vid]

I don't usually watch movies in theaters (or at all) but here are some I definitely plan on checking out:

Arrested Development movie: I am SO EXCITED to see this, there are no words. I'm sure it'll be hilarious and just seeing my favorite characters again with new material will be wonderful. As mentioned previously, I'm planning on seeing this one a LOT, at least ten times which I've never done before to make up for not seeing Serenity more than once.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince: The book had my favorite main plot of all the books (closely followed by the third) so I'm hoping I can ignore the crappy romance and side plots and enjoy the good of the story. Hopefully the actor that plays Dumbledore can pull off the scenes that remain vivid in my mind. Also, good Snape scenes!
Get Smart: Steve Carell looks ridiculously hot in a suit. Plus the previews make it seem hilarious. Mmmm Steve.
I Love You, Phillip Morris: It's like Beecher/Keller! With Ewan, yum. I can never resist a prison love story.
Milk: A movie about the first gay mayor of San Francisco with Victor Garber, I'm so in. I had hoped Steve would be in it but Sean Penn and James Franco work too.
The Subtle Knife: Just so I can see the scene that SHOULD have been in The Golden Compass. Stupid fuckers. But it'll make my shippy heart happy and it's one of the most emotional of the books.
Star Trek XI: Kirk/Spock and Zachary Quinto! I'd hope to see all of the original plus movies before I see this but who knows if that'll happen.
The X Files 2?: If I finish the TV show in time and love it enough.
Mama Mia: Following in the footsteps of Rent and Hairspray, I always love a good movie musical.

Anymore that you think I'd be interested in?

[Current Music |"So Pure" by Alanis Morissette]

So after watching Friday Night Lights (*love*), I found Remember the Titans, one of my favorite movies I have watched many times. And there's actual football in it which I know FNL has cut down on for ratings sake but I still selfishly wish there was more (I really need to check out Playmakers one of these days). Anyways, to my surprise I start recognizing people I'd never noticed before. There's AVON from THE WIRE!!! There's CLAIRE from Heroes! (omg so cute) There's Turk from Scrubs! There's Randy from My Name is Earl! (who I recognize from watching the show or end of it or previews of it before The Office last year). And then there's Kip Purdue and Ryan Gosling who I've seen in various movies/vids. . Julius (AVON!!) and Gerry are no less slashier than they were when I first saw them. Gotta love it.

So I decided to offer myself for bidding at Sweet Charity. It's for the Writer's Guild Foundation helping out people affected by the Writer's Strike but aren't a member of the union. I really believe in helping people in the entertainment industry considering how much happiness they bring me and fandom so I urge you to consider bidding on people starting January 18th and running til the 26th. Here is my description:

I will do one vid in the following fandoms: Angel the Series, Arrested Development, Brokeback Mountain, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cupid, Due South, Firefly, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, Highlander (Methos episodes only), House (no House/Cameron, Cameron), How I Met Your Mother, Little Mis Sunshine, Project Runway, Pushing Daisies, Queer as Folk (no romantic Brian/Michael), Smallville (S1-3 only), The Office, The Wire, Torchwood (no Owen or Gwen), Ugly Betty, Veronica Mars (S1 only).

Provide me one song (or more if you want me to choose) in any genre you want although I prefer something that isn't overused (along the lines of Bring Me to Life or Chasing Cars).

I can do gen, slash, het, femslash and canon gay. No constructed reality/AU please. Give me as much or as little direction as you prefer. Examples of my vids can be found here: My Vids.

So if you want me to make a vid for you, bid for me! My deadline is March 31st so I can finish your vid before the deadlines of Vividcon start coming up. I will do whatever you want me to do with those guidelines above.

On a random note I watched the Pilot of Homicide: Life on the Street. It only confirmed to me that I HATE episodic TV especially when it's cop/procedural based with no overriding season/series arc. I do of course love Frank and I liked the salami guy and I can see semblances of The Wire in it but the boring murder cases put me off. I will probably try it at a later time especially the ones David Simon actually wrote but for now, not for me. I did listen to So Pure the other day and I looove that song and wish I could see the vid again. Maybe at DIY, I hope? Also I'm working on Farscape again. It's haaaard because the episodes are episodic and kind of boring as I don't really know the characters yet (my favorite so far is Aeryn for the record). I'm trying to hold out til A Human Reaction as I hear that's a really good episode but so far I'm on the 6th episode so I have ten to go. I know I'm going to kick myself for going slow on this show but what can you do.

And last, vid meme: The Favorite Vid meme: "comment here with a link to your vids, and I will tell you which vid of yours is my favorite, and why." Also if you know I read your fic, then you can comment for the fic version.

So today I was lucky enough to get to see The Golden Compass. I've been looking forward to see this movie since Harry Potter and it was the one movie I truly wanted to see. I read all three books back in 8th grade (or around there) and fell in love with them with The Golden Compass being my favorite and I reread that one a couple times. I also did an 8th grade English project on it in which I cast the movie and wrote about how I'd do it. So I was really happy to see the movie made and couldn't wait to go see it. I haven't read the books since then so I was hoping that the little details and even big ones they changed wouldn't matter and I could truly appreciate the film for what it was.

Spoilers for The Golden Compass movie AND book. Don't say I didn't warn you. )

I definitely recommend reading the book before (preferred always) or after you see the movie. Which I do recommend just to see what you think of it. It's definitely the kind of movie to see in a theater.

I have lots more I have to write about including my new addiction to Project Runway (OMG SO MUCH LOVE) but I'm just not in the mood to do it right now. Le sigh.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a great day full of reasons to be thankful. I've been feeling rather laconic and withdrawn lately so I haven't had much to say lately although I have a bunch of posts to make at some point. I truly am thankful to be here in the greatest place on earth, California (for me) and to have family, friends and the wonderful joys of TV and fandom. Don't know where I'd be without all that.

For now though, I have a vid rec for a vid I'm completely in love with! When I heard [livejournal.com profile] buffyann was watching and loving Queer as Folk and specifically Brian/Justin, I was ecstatic (I believe my exact words were "We got Buffyann! We got Buffyann!"). And today she finally released a vid for the show! The vid is When the Sun Goes Down, Brian/Justin, Club Vivid style with lots of fast paced, amazing editing with the most beautiful, hottest clips out there of my favorite ship. I haven't seen a vid this hot since Danger by [livejournal.com profile] f1renze. Beautiful use of motion that mesmerizes you into the wonderful world of the show. Also, two boys kissing and loving will never not be hot. I am a slasher at heart and always will be. *rewatches vid over and over*

I watched Enchanted the other day and enjoyed it a lot but it made me wish for a gay fairytale movie to come out. Probably will take it awhile but that would definitely make me happy to see. Sometimes I really wish there was a lot more shows like QaF out there where the default wasn't straight and slashers wouldn't even have to slash, it would just be there. I will keep wishing!

I finished my rewatch of Veronica Mars S1 today. Wow, that show will always emotionally get to me so well. Oh Veronica and Lily <3. I only wish the show had stayed at the same level for S2 and S3. It's nice getting to rewatch shows that I usually am too busy to. I'm rewatching House (or at least everything that has House, Wilson or Cuddy in it) in order to take clip notes (so boring but worth it!) for it and it definitely has some wonderful quotes and OTP and OT3 scenes. The end of 105 in particular is adorable :) House/Wilson just totally own my heart. It's funny how I've been adoring Wilson even more these days to the point where I almost wish the show was all about him. Are there any good Wilson vids out there that aren't too shippy? In any case, it's so nice to see Wilson actually get screen time that doesn't take place thirty minutes into an episode. In fact, a lot of the time he gets the very first scene. It just shows how important he really is, at least back in the day. Same with Cuddy who didn't get any of the screen time she deserved last week in an episode all about her. At least watching the first season is letting me see and enjoy House, Wilson and Cuddy so I can get my filling of them.

These Christmas sales are waaay too tempting when I don't have the money for it. I want so many TV shows on DVD! Not to mention the big screen TV and 1 TB external hard drive (it's for vidding!). Ah well, someday...

First Happy Belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] norwich36, [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie, [livejournal.com profile] tamalinn and [livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee! I hope you all had great days and a wonderful year to come.

So today was my movie catch up day. I've been feeling kind of meh about movies lately as TV shows better suit me. The best way I can explain it is it takes too long for me to get into movies and once I do, they're practically over. Whereas with TV, while it might take me a little while to get into a show, once I do I have a lot more of the show to fall in love with. But I do love when I see high quality movies which I've been doing lately except for Evan Almighty. But I was only seeing that for Steve and seeing all the Michaelisms and ultimate cuteness and squeeing over Steve made it all worth it. I don't think the movie is as bad as the critics say it is, it was fun and cool to see on the big screen and I did love the animals and laughed enough to make it a comedy movie for me. And I didn't think the religion was too much so it worked for me. The other night I saw Little Miss Sunshine again which has become my third favorite movie (behind Serenity and Brokeback Mountain). For me it's the perfect comfort movie; whenever I'm feeling particularly emotional I watch it and it makes me feel better about life and just happy with the universe. I would actually love to see a good vid to it one of these days.

So today I saw three amazing movies. The first was a classic, Casablanca which I have never seen and which needed to be remedied stat. I really enjoyed it, took me awhile to get into as usual but the narrative was absolutely wonderful. And the end made me ever so happy with the two guys walking into the sunset...mmm slash. Then I watched Memento which blew my mind with how cool it was, how interesting and unique it was in terms of narrative. Lots of Matrix people which always helps too.

And I finally saw Dead Poet's Society which...WOW. Now I know why everyone was crying over Lullaby at Vividcon. First the movie broke me and then that vid did multiple times. I had seen half of the movie last August but again had a hard time getting into it. This time it was much easier especially with seeing kid!Wilson who completely won me over with his enthusiasm and adorable relationship with Todd. To anyone who hasn't seen the movie, I HIGHLY recommend it. It really teaches you to make something out of your life, to be a non-conformist no matter the cost, no BECAUSE of the cost and it's really a great story for any person who has ever been a student or teacher (I assume that's everyone. It rocketed up to number four on my favorite list of movies and I think it shares some similarities with Little Miss Sunshine with them both being about people pursuing their dreams no matter what society thinks and especially with the amazingly well acted heartwrenching scenes of Dwayne and Todd. So go watch it!

Links:
Life As We Know It - Second City - Ryan Stiles AND Steve Carell together in their younger days makes me ridiculously happy. They're so cute!
Unaired Colin kisses Ryan sketch on Whose Line - I may have died in happiness watching this clip over and over when I first saw it. What makes it even better than the first purely Colin initiated kiss is the "worked together for 20 years" and "Oh who am I kidding" right before it. Just so awesome and it fills my romantic heart with glee.

Everyone's been posting a ton about Doctor Who but I'm finding it still hard to get into the show in the second current season. My problem with it is it's all stand alones and I only like the Docter and Rose so it's hard for me to get into watching it. I will by Vividcon though. Oh and I changed my page layout a bit mostly to use a new Office header which has some of my favorite Dundies scenes in it. Still my favorite Office episode, of course.

[Current Mood |loved]

So I finally got the chance to see Brokeback Mountain tonight. I've been looking forward to seeing this movie since I heard about it, oh about 5 months ago. It was amazing! I loved it so much. I had high expectations and it certainly delivered. The love story was so beautifully done and made me cry a bunch of times. I did miss about 15 minutes of the beginning (@%$& traffic) but luckily didn't miss any of the good parts ;) Ennis/Jack is my new favorite ship and soo cute together. I loved the silent, solid vs enthusiastic, fun complement they had. It was also of course, incredibly hot. Looved the wall kisses the most although that scene in the tent was good to. All in all, they definitely could have shown more but I'll give them credit for showing what they did. I read the short story which was wonderful and the movie followed it pretty well. My favorite scene was when Jack was sleeping standing up and Ennis walked over to him and put his arm around him *loves* So romantic. The scene before had the most heartbreaking lines though, very realistic and real and powerful. And the end was just..*cry* Awesome movie and I reeally hope it wins some of those awards its nominated for as well as the Oscar for best picture because it definitely deserves it. Very artistic and good acting throughout. I'd recommend to anyone.

With this movie, I'm hoping in the future they'll give us more slashy movies and hopefully some happy ones as well as the sad ones. There was a good crowd where I was and I know I'd like to see it another time and catch the beginning. Ahh I loove my gay cowboy movie *sigh*

First of all, Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] killabeez. I love all your Highlander stuff and especially all your videos and I'm glad you're around to create them. I hope you have a great day :)

In other news, figuring out the [livejournal.com profile] ga_santa assignments took forever and I wish I was able to make sure people got wishlists they liked but I guess I won't know completely. Some just seemed like perfect matches and others I wasn't sure about. All in all, it took longer than I thought and I'm glad I didn't have to do a ton of people. Guess this is what you have to do when you start/organize something.

On a more positive note, I got my secret santa assignments and I'm excited to begin them. Going to be fun to do things for Veronica Mars and Firefly, two of my favorite true ensemble shows where I love almost all the cast and really enjoy the shows. One of my SS's made a really detailed list and was funny which was nice to see. Hope I can make something good for them. And in return I just got my first present! It's my new icon default :D

Just saw some movies the last couple weeks and am going to see some more soon. I saw Harry Potter and really enjoyed it with some reservations. Also last night I saw Pride and Prejudice and I loooved it. I've read 3/4 of the book and liked it but the movie was *love*. Mr. Darcy is just too hot and I liked Elizabeth, Keira Knightly did a good job with her. And of course, Mr. Darcy/Elizabeth are the OTP! Just absolutely beautiful together and mindblowingly romantic. I loved the touches, the looks, the snark, the beauty and especially the romance. The end scene was to die for and the one before that with the sunset was one of the most artistically romantic scenes I've ever seen, just stunningly beautiful. I need to vid that eventually. I'm looking forward to seeing the Chronicles of Narnia which was one of my favorite books as a kid and I just looved Aslan because, lions rule. And then of course there's Brokeback Mountain because I'm dying to see that. Finally a movie that caters to all my interests. And I read the short story it's based on and that was soo good and made me cry at the end. Cannot wait to see it, just wish it was out sooner in my area. I just cannot wait to see the gay cowboy love! Hee. Going to be so cute.

It's funny how sometimes, unexpectedly, life provides exactly what I need.

*Spoiler warning for all movies included in this*

Today was kind of a blah day for me. So I decided to watch some movies. First there was Remember the Titans. I loove that movie. There are just so many awesome characters first of all (one of my main criteria). Then I love the overcoming prejudice theme, the struggle for equality always hooks me. Not to mention I gotta love the sports drama. But definitely I loved the relationships between the characters and how they changed. And the slash was great hehe...Next I saw Gladiator. First I must state how much I love the Hans Zimmer's music. Soo freaking good. Mostly in this movie I really liked Maximus and his journey. And wow the tigers were soo beautiful *sigh*

The surprise was me watching Patch Adams, which i didn't have on tape. I only really watched it because on Television Without Pity they always call Dr. Abbott from Everwood, Patch and I wanted to know what this movie had to do with it. Now I'm so glad I did. I loved the beginning with him in the psychiatriac ward. The squirrel part was just hilarious. Robin Williams is a great actor and I really liked his character, seemed a bit NFish, even 9w1ish to me but not totally clear on that. Anyway, my favorite parts were the ones where he established such wonderful connections with patients. I loved the hospital scene with the children and how he brightened so many peoples lives was great. What really touched me was how he really cared about people even right upon meeting them and took the time to do something special. Plus I love (and admire) his unselfconciousness. I'm not even going to try to count the number of times I cried in this movie but that just shows how much it affected me. It was definitely exactly what the doctor ordered for me :)

Tomorrow: Harry Potter! Woohoo!
