Computers and TV= Love

I got my computer back! There are no words for how happy this makes me :D Computers and the internet and fandom and watching TV on my computer is a big part of my life and I make no apologies. I've been dyyying (that's right, dying!) to vid lately and now I finally can! I have my Sweet Charity vid all planned out and I'm so excited to do it not to mention my Premieres vid. Plus I really want to watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles so I'm glad to finally be able to do that not to mention finishing Farscape. Next on my list for long shows are X-Files (the movie is really encouraging me!) and SG-1 although I *have* to get through the first by Vividcon and I'd just like to do SG-1 by then. But besides that it's nice to be able to download music, put music on my iPod, comment and write posts at my house, download vids and access all my files. I say this a lot but I mean it this time, I will NEVER take my computer granted again nor vidding or writing because it's so wonderful to have the means to do it.

The Organization for Transformative Works is now accepting memberships and it only costs $10. I believe in this very strongly to have an archive for all fandoms with so many cool features (check out the roadmap on the site) and to protect all fannish works so I encourage everyone to join.

I usually don't read TV best of lists because the omissions or low ranked series piss me off but Empire's list is the greatest I've seen with a lot of high quality shows including many fannish ones. I have some problems with the numbering (Heroes is way too high in my opinion and The Wire should be #1) and a few of the best episodes (Not Pictured for Veronica Mars?! Many of the S1 episodes were better) but they have most of the ones that deserve to be on there. It seems some older classics may have been ignored but since I haven't seen most of them, I don't know. I do think The Office US should have it's own number because it's different enough and significantly changed the characters but they do mention it with the UK so I'll give them one. It's hard to rank TV anyway since episodes and seasons can vary in quality and the difference in network and HBO isn't an equal playing field not to mention some TV shows get a longer time to prove themselves versus others (see Firefly). I love the descriptions they gave of the shows though, nonspoilery and great at pimping me into shows since the list makers obviously have good taste.

Also? Flist you FAIL for not telling me Babylon 5 was all planned out for five seasons. I firmly believe that all TV shows should have a five year plan (or seven or ten, they can choose) and plan out as much as they can just like someone would do for a novel or movie in order to put as much foreshadowing and narrative unity as possible. This also avoids the classic not knowing what to do after the first or second season scenario. Now Babylon 5 has moved up greatly in my To Watch list. Any other shows I should know about that are very planned out (and good)?

Here's the list meme to go along with it:

1. Bold the shows you've watched every episode of
2. Italic the shows you've seen at least one episode of
3. Post your answers

Office wise, the new promos are making me SO HAPPY. God, I love that cast. Also, Kelly is awesome. I love her beyond words. 8 more days!! Plus new BSG in three YAY! Speaking of, I randomly saw an episode on TV with the Baltar gets "framed" and goes crazy episode and it was hilarious how many of the clips were in Let's Go Crazy.

It's definitely vidding season and I am loving all the vidding talk around my Flist. I'm so excited for Vividcon in four and a half months OMG. I've been reading lots of vid meta and watching my vids on DVD to try to study vids more in order to get better that way so that's been fun. Vidding has moved to be my primary fandom right now.

Tagged so vidding meme:

1.)When did you first start vidding?

I started vidding in September 2002 when I first saw a vid for my favorite ship at the time and fell instantly in love. I made a lot of vids in the next year, most weren't that good and are lost in cyberspace but I learned the basics with Windows Movie Maker there. I took a two year hiatus watching amazing vids and reading vid meta while I had technical problems and getting source problems and then started up again with Premiere.

2) What would you say was your inspiration or motivation to start doing it?

Well I first saw [livejournal.com profile] louloucn's vids and thought it was a perfect idea. I love music and matching lyrics to characters/relationships/situations not to mention the coolness of audio-visual syncing so it really resonated with me. Seeing even more great vids inspired me more and my love of the source and ships helped motivate me.

3) What do you or have you vidded?.

Smallville, Grey's Anatomy, Firefly, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, Queer as Folk, The Office, Highlander with a bunch more fandoms in the works.

4) Where do you draw your inspiration from for vids? Is it the song? An idea? Someone else?

It's usually the song that will first grab me but I have a bunch of ideas I'm hoping to find songs for someday. Usually the biggest inspiration is feeling strongly about a character, relationship and/or show and wanting to vid my feelings and ideas about it.

5) What was your favorite video to make or do?

Well a bunch of my vids have been plagued by technical problems and deadlines + procrastination so this is hard. I'd say Volcano if I ignore the technical problems because it came out so easily for me in terms of what I saw in my head but probably my Office vid overall because it was short and done in a day and I was OMG SO IN LOVE with the pairing at the time.

6) What was your least favorite video to make or do?

Funny enough, Volcano when it was destroyed multiple times and with the technical problems (including at Vividcon *cringe*). Also The Trouble with Poets of the deadline. But I truly love doing all my vids otherwise why would I vid them?

7) Which video are you most proud of?

It's a toss up between Volcano which came out most perfectly in what I saw in my head and The Trouble With Poets which took a lot of idea work for me and I think turned out pretty well.

8) What's the best feedback or comment you've ever gotten?

It's hard to remember any specific ones but I know [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 left me a really nice one about Volcano and at VVC, [livejournal.com profile] killabeez said some really kind words about both my vids.

9.)What is your opinion on clip theft?

I don't think anybody should do it. If you need source or want to use clips from someone's vids, ASK and people will help you out. It's lazy for the most part. I can understand if someone didn't know their first time. On the other hand, I'm not going to go searching out for people who do it and I generally don't care if they do it for my vids especially if there's credit. If it involves using only small clips I mind even less but it did take work and often effects are used so I don't support it with other people's work who do mind. I'm just more of a share everything person as long as you're not claiming anything as your own.

10) Favorite genre to vid to (comedy, angst, romance, drama, AU)?

I love character with a relationship focus vids with a romance-angst genre.

11) Favorite pairing(s)?

Brian/Justin are incredibly fun to vid and I LOVE them times infinity so they're definitely my favorites.

12) What just drives you up the wall when it comes to vidding?

DVD drives failing, losing vid projects, Premiere messing up and having trouble getting non-DVD source into projects. Most technical issues.

13) Is vidding a pastime, hobby or something to help gain experience to do more later in life?

All three? I define vidding as a hobby but it's also a pastime and maybe it'll come in handy later in life.

14) What is your latest project or idea for your next vid if your muse isn't dead?

Sweet Charity vid and Premieres vid and that's all I can say. There's a Brian QaF vid I also want to do, an Office ensemble one and a Jack/Irina vid I want to do. I have lots of ideas and even have a list for them but it all depends where my inspiration leads me.

15) Finally, what kind of words of wisdom would you offer someone who wants to vid/ is a newbie?

Watch lots of vids and read lots of meta but stay true to yourself and vid what you enjoy and in your own style. I'd recommend always trying to push yourself in terms of song choice, ideas, motion, effects, focus/fandom, originality and everything else you can think of. Don't be afraid to ask for help/betas!

I tag (if you want to do it): [livejournal.com profile] buffyann, [livejournal.com profile] counteragent, [livejournal.com profile] kitkatbyte, [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup and anyone else who wants to do it.

I'd always like to chat with people on my Flist so if you're comfortable with it, here's a poll (only viewable to me) where you can leave your AIM, Yahoo, MSN or other (please specify) screenname. I use Trillian and all my infos on my profile.

[Poll #1164729]

More later as I have lots of posts to catch up on. I should be posting more now!

probably my Office vid overall because it was short and done in a day and I was OMG SO IN LOVE with the pairing at the time.

Hee. IMO being in love with the subject matter makes vidding so much more enjoyable. I hit on these "OMG SQUEE" moments that push me to keep going. Vidding subjects I'm not as big a fan of is fun too, but in a more detached sort of way.

It seems some older classics may have been ignored but since I haven't seen most of them, I don't know.

The older classics were completely ignored. =/ Star Trek is the oldest show on the list. There's no MASH, I Love Lucy, Honeymooners, Dick Van Dyke, etc. It's essentially a list of the best shows in recent memory, not the best shows of all time.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes exactly. I'd rather vid when I'm in the honeymoon phase and a lot of times it'll help my obsession of the moment.

Yeah that sucks. But still as a list of best shows in the past 20 years or so, it's really good.

OMG ! I read your reason for deciding to vid and the name [livejournal.com profile] louloucn was familiar and then I remembered it's when I saw one of her Ephram/Amy vid a long time ago that I think I decided to vid as well ! small world.
I also have a Brian project in mind ;) hehe.

Definitely Volcano is awesome so you should be proud, I've been watching it a lot these days :)

[identity profile] obsessive24.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! I read "louloucn" and did a double take as well. Her Tru/Jack vids posted on Fanforum was what initially got ME into vidding!

[identity profile] buffyann.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, Louloucn is our common ancestor !!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
How cool is that! She certainly inspired a lot of people through three different ships :)

[identity profile] obsessive24.livejournal.com 2008-04-03 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could be some people's common ancestor one day. :D

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's so awesome! And yay for a Brian project :D I love him.

Aww thanks, that's good to know. And BTW I am REALLY looking forward to your Club Vivid vid. I'm in love with the song you're doing :)

[identity profile] buffyann.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I love him.
Who doesn't ;)

I am REALLY looking forward to your Club Vivid vid. I'm in love with the song you're doing :)
oh really ? :D try to not fall out of love with it in the next 4 months ;)
Don't expect much though, it's a rather simple vid :)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well he's too much of an asshole for some I guess. Their loss.

Oh I won't, I reeeeally love it. I'm sure it'll be great simple or not!

Well all your talk about it helped push back up so there you go. I find Prison Back better to watch in large doses.

God, it sucks so much not having a computer. I'm glad you have yours back.

And ah... just warning you, but if you plan on watching all of SG-1, you're really going to want to get on that right away. I mean, it took me 4 months to get caught up, and there were only 8 season at the time. A friend and I are rewatching them now, and we have a two year schedule going. There are a *lot* of episodes.

Also it was really cool to read your vidding meme response. I don't read enough vidding meta. :(

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too.

Well SG-1 is behind Farscape and the X-Files so it'll have to wait awhile. I'm pretty quick with watching TV though so it shouldn't be too bad.

You should! I have lot in my memories if you're interested :)
