It's the last day of the year so you know what means: meme time.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2015?

HAMILTON (so obsessed), The Good Wife (Kalicia mostly), Person of Interest (Root/Shaw/Machine mostly), UnREAL, The Fall, Billy & Billie, Halt and Catch Fire, Review, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Carmilla, Difficult People, The 100, Casual, The Leftovers, The X-Files (on S2), Galavant, Better Call Saul, Master of None, Fresh Off the Boat, Sense8, Grace and Frankie, Frasier (still working on this), Another Period, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Empire, Supergirl (maybe, I can barely watch this as a clipping show but I love Kara/Cat), Jessica Jones (kind of-may only watch Jeri scenes next season), Star Wars (a little).

Started but not sure yet: Ballers, Bloodline, Cucumber, Banana, Fear the Walking Dead, Girl Meets World, Mr. Robot, The Man in the High Castle, Outlander, Rectify, Survivor's Remorse

What fandoms did you let go of in 2015?

Hockey RPF (for the quickest/worst fandom loss ever), The Mindy Project (I can't do bad baby plots even when I LOVE Mindy), Jane the Virgin (I also can't do good baby plots), maybe Fargo not sure yet.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2015? Why?

Deadwood (I got through mid-S1 and now forget most of it so haven't gone back), Penny Dreadful (not really my thing although I may try again another time), Manhattan (slow so far but I may try again).

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2016?

Deadwood, Show Me a Hero, Hannibal (catch up), Louie (catchup), Black-ish, Playing House, Banana, Cucumber, The Returned, Lovely Little Losers, The Man in the High Castle, Mr. Robot.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2016 unless things significantly improve?

Right now I'm iffy on some shows that are kind of boring me: Nashville, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Empire, maybe Supergirl.

What show impressed you most in 2015?

Not TV but Hamilton was the best thing I listened to and watched all year and in the top 3 in my entire life. SO BRILLIANT, amazing use of words, narrative, incredible characters to identify with, revolutionary idea, music that I listen to nonstop. UnREAL was incredible with its interesting critique of reality shows and the beautiful, complicated, interesting relationship (and character development) of the two female leads. In general I found some unique, intriguing, feelsy femslash in The Good Wife with Alicia/Kalinda and in Person of Interest with Root/Shaw that was amazing to experience. I loved the Parks and Mad Men series finales which went out on top and moved me to tears. Movie-wise, Inside Out blew me away and Carol was so beautiful and amazing it took my breath away.

What show impressed you least in 2015?

Really bummed The Mindy Project not only did an accidental pregnancy plot that made no sense (THEY'RE OBGYNS!!!) but then badly handled the baby plot, made me dislike Danny with SAHM bullshit and then added a sexist doctor and that finally forced me to abandon the show despite my hero worship for Mindy Kaling for almost 10 years. I may go back someday but I had to quit it for now. The Kevin episodes/half-episodes on The Leftovers were THE WORST and bring the show way down for me (why are you wasting Regina King and Carrie Coon???). Jessica Jones had potential but I'm still bitter what they did to Jeri and how they sacrificed character development for plot which was drawn out way too long.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?

I'm curious about Westworld, American Gods, Emerald City, Billions, Angie Tribeca (written by Steve Carell and his wife starring Rashida Jones), The Catch (Shondaland), The Magicians. I will not catch up in time but I'm looking forward to later watching The X-Files revival once I do. Moviewise, looking forward to The Girl with All the Gifts, Ghostbusters, Moana (LMM) and Finding Dory.

I've been reading some of my favorite TV critics about TV shows and criticism and #PeakTV and all that but lately I've been pretty disappointed with TV. There's nothing that's really grabbing me and that's not just good (sometimes great) but truly Great like a Breaking Bad or similar. I miss great shows that have characters that I really connect with and I'm always frustrated with all the white guy centered shows out there. It's frustrating that there's so many TV shows and yet I have such a hard time finding ones I truly love. Imma keep trying though as a helpless TV fan but I hope next year will be better for TV. In any case, I've been trying to read more books to help fulfill the character connections I'm not getting as much on TV although I miss the visuals with books and fandoms are harder to come by.

It's the last day of the year so you know what means: meme time.

End of the Year Fandom Meme

What fandoms did you acquire in 2014?

How To Get Away With Murder, Hockey RPF (mostly Chicago Blackhawks RPF/Kane/Toews), Transparent, Luther, Soccer RPF (USA/German & Bayern Munich), Veep, Jane the Virgin, Broad City, Faking It, Maleficent, Nashville, American Ninja Warrior, Looking, The Americans, You're the Worst.

What fandoms did you let go of in 2014?

Once Upon a Time (too rage-y with stupid het ships/bad plots), The Blacklist, Modern Family (too many awards when the quality has decreased), The Big Bang Theory (not funny anymore plus too sexist), Downton Abbey and New Girl. Probably letting go of Masters of Sex as I'm bored with it now especially as my ship is gone.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2014? Why?

I started Deadwood and The X-Files but only made it through the beginning episodes of S1. I failed mostly on my planned fandoms because of lack of motivation and laziness mainly. That list would be Borgen, Political Animals, Boardwalk Empire, Rectify, Broadchurch and The Returned (and ohers I don't remember).

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2015?

Keep going with Deadwood and The X-Files. Others I want to try: Penny Dreadful, The Leftovers, Rectify, Outlanders, The Good Wife (HTGAWM has inspired me to check out another lawyer show), Manhattan, possibly others but I make no promises.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2015 unless things significantly improve?

I've had moments where I've thought about quitting Brooklyn 99 because I don't like the het plots and I'm not finding it that funny but I like the characters enough and fandom's really into it so it's sticking around for now. Scanal might be out as well but I think it's just a show I need to binge and not watch every week.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?

Game of Thrones (this was tested last season lol), How To Get Away With Murder, The Mindy Project, Transparent, Luther (unless Idris and Ruth leave the show), Nashville (because Connie Briton), Shameless.

What show impressed you most in 2014?

Transparent was incredible with beautiful characters who were all kinds of messed up, interesting family relationships, LGBT characters, amazing writing and acting and all around awesome show. I highly recommend it! Orange is the New Black was even better than S2 and I can't wait for S3 (Alexxxx!!!). Also The Mindy Project S2 finale was my favorite comedy episode of the year, just hilarious and romantic and perfect.

What show impressed you least in 2014?

Well shout out to Game of Thrones 403 to being the worst fucking book interpretation I've ever seen and completely ruined the show for me for a few months. Oh and HIMYM for being the WORST season finale I've ever seen and completely ruining the show forever for me. Ugh fuck that stupid show. Overall I have to go with Once Upon a Time because of the stupid het and plotting. Just give me my Swan Queen!

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?

Better Call Saul for sure! Really excited about Empire too, that looks to have a lot of things I love. Also Galavant, Agent Carter (I'm done with any superhero shows/movies that don't STAR a woman/POC), Orange is the New Black S3, Mad Men&Glee&Parks series finales and iZombie because Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero (A Trip to the Dentist writer). Movie-wise: Inside Out, Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect 2, Entourage the movie, Sisters (Amy/Tina!!!), Furious 7. Sportswise excited for GERMANY VS USA: Round 2 featuring coach boyfriends Jürgen and Jogi, Gold Cup for USA, Bayern Munich in the Champions League, March Madness for SU and Stanley Cup Playoffs for Blackhawks.

It's going to be a weird year for TV and me. I'm going to be busy with college and other priorities so I don't want to watch things I don't like but I want to be better at watching quality shows and not just watching whatever I feel like. We'll see what happens.

[Current Mood |working]

Even though I'm not in school right now, the beginning of September always feels like a new beginning to me. It seems like a good time to share my plans for the rest of the year and the time to come as I finally have some ideas of what I want to do.

First a catchup of the last three months. In May, I went to a fun Ingrid Michaelson concert with [livejournal.com profile] beerbad and had a great time listening to some of my favorite songs. Mother's Day was pretty sad and I tried to avoid the media but eventually gave in and just scrolled through and watched some sad TV shows and cried some. One of the most fun things I did was go to Malibu State Park and go to this little pond (not sure what the right word is here) where they had cliff jumping rocks and I went to the highest one (about 30 feet) and jumped off of it. It was SO fun and I had been feeling kind of meh about the world and it gave me an adrenaline rush that made me feel happy and full of hope again. I just love feeling like I'm flying and being that high in the air, I really felt like I was in the air on the way down and it felt amazing. I also went to a fun Harry Potter roller skating event where there was a ton of people dressed up and they played Harry Potter songs and it was just really fun even though at the end the music was meh so I put on my headphones and listened to shippy songs for my favorite couples (mostly Kane/Toews). I went to a Memorial Day BBQ with other geeky/fannish type people and had fun playing Cards Against Humanity and talking various TV shows with people. I had a lot of fun going to see the Chicago Blackhawks play the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center in my first live hockey game and I was lucky enough to see it with [livejournal.com profile] celli and get to see Toews score a goal right in front of me. [livejournal.com profile] celli and I had a lot of fun talking hockey and various real life stuff after the game and it was fun getting a chance to get to know her better. I also went to see a screening of the Mindy Project season finale and got to see a cast Q&A and later got to meet Mindy Kaling for the fourth time - and she remembered who I was for the third time ever. It was pretty cool and she even took a selfie of her and me. I also went to my second cousin's bridal shower and got to catch up with that side of my family and got to see my grandma's sister as well which was nice and I'm looking forward to going to his wedding in November.

In June, I spent a lot of time finishing my Femslash Premiere and my Premieres vid for Vividcon which was a bit stressful but I was ultimately able to finish by the deadline. I was also following the NBA draft and super happy when my favorite player, Tyler Ennis was selected 18th in the draft and another Syracuse player, Jerami Grant went to the Philadelphia 76ers which has a Syracuse player, Michael Carter-Williams who just won Rookie of the Year and who I slash with his friend on the team, Nerlens Noel so I'm looking forward to OT3ing them together. I also started watching the World Cup, following it seriously for the first time ever and fell in love with the USA team, most of all the coach, Jurgen Klinsmann. Jurgen who was a big star in Europe who won the World Cup with Germany in 1990, coached the German team to a 3rd place finish in 2006 (in Germany) but who loves the USA and lives there with his family so he decided to coach the USA team in 2011 and is attempting to turn the team around so it can eventually win the World Cup with the men's team. I really love what he's trying to do and his personality and I have a lot of hope that he can help us win it all so I began to follow the US team and was in ecstasy after we beat Ghana and went to a USA bar for the Portugal game with [livejournal.com profile] cenedrawood and was SO HAPPY when USA came back from a 0-1 deficit to be winning 2-1...only to lose in the last thirty seconds in one of the most heartbreaking sports moments ever for me. Thankfully we still had another game against Germany where Jurgen was coaching against his friend, Joachim Löm (who was his assistant coach when he coached Germany) and since I ship them together (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] caesaria), it was an entertaining game for me if terrifying. We lost by one but were still able to make it out of the group stages where we played Belgium which I don't even want to talk about because I'm still super bitter and prefer to think about how Tim Howard made 15 saves and Julian Green scored a goal on his first touch even though he's only 19 years old and was another young player that people complained about being on the roster and yet was one of the many players to prove that Jurgen knew what he was doing cause he's an amazing coach <3 Anyways, I started out rooting for Brazil (because they were at home, it meant a lot to them and they spent so much money at least they could get SOMETHING out of it), Germany, England, Italy and I also added the Netherlands after I saw their first game against Spain and enjoyed watching Robben and van Persie play. Eventually Germany and Netherlands were my favorite teams as after watching a documentary about the 2006 German team and falling in love with Robben as a player I wish I could be like, I emotionally connected with them, plus it helped that both teams did super well.

In July, I was really into basketball as the NBA summer league started and all the new rookies, 2nd year players and undrafted players trying to get a spot on rosters were playing and I watched the 76ers team do well in Orlando with my guy, Jerami Grant. The major summer league was in Las Vegas though and I decided to go to Vegas, buy tickets for the games (they're cheap) and let out my basketball feelings while trying to meet some of my favorite Syracuse players since many of them were going to be there. I had an amazing time, getting autographs and talking to Tyler Ennis, Rakeem Christmas (current SU player), Jerami Grant, Michael Carter-Williams, Baye Moussa Keita and Brandon Triche (former SU players) as well as watching a ton of players play for their teams. Unfortunately my car had some issues so I stayed longer than I wanted to but I also had fun hanging out with n0apologies (twitter) who I had met at Wincon and we had a great time talking about our lives, Adam Lambert, Queer as Folk and other fannish topics. I was also there duing the World Cup final and went to a bar to watch Germany play Argentina where thankfully Germany won and I was SO HAPPY as Jogi Low and the team had come soooo close to winning in the last 8 years and always came up a little short so I was super happy for the team to finally win it all and I just had such a fun time celebrating, happy crying and joining in the celebrations at the German bar.

Finally I got back to LA and had fun going to [livejournal.com profile] elipie's karaoke birthday party and then going to a Lady GaGa concert with her where we won free seat upgrades and got to hang in the VIP lounge with free drinks and hang out with hot half-naked boys while we could easily see Lady GaGa especially when she came over to the platform right above us. It was super fun getting to hear her sing some of her classic songs and she's an amazing performer so we had a fun time singing her songs and enjoying the performance. At the end of July, I went back home to Syracuse where I spent some time with my dad, caught up with my best friend and hung out with my cats at home. I also drove down to Pennsylvania to visit my cousin's family and spend some time with my aunt. My cousin is starting her own business so I spent a little bit of time at her shop and we also went with her family and my aunt to one of my favorite amusement parks where we used to go almost every year as a kid so it was very nostalgic to be back there again. Speaking of nostalgia, I also went to visit my childhood elementary school and was bummed to see they tore down the playground I had loved although they are building a new one, it's not the same. After that, I went to Vividcon which I'll talk about in a different post but the Wednesday after that, I had an amazing time going to Six Flags Magic Mountain with [livejournal.com profile] elipie getting a chance to talk about Vividcon, new vidding ideas and other fannish stuff.

This summer I had planned on taking some courses related to college admission counseling but after a couple of days trying to take them, I realized my heart wasn't in them as I wasn't sure yet whether that's what I wanted to do as it might not be big enough for me career-wise. Thankfully I was able to get a full refund and another thing that affected my decision was a revelation I had thought of while reading books about colleges. I kept having regrets while reading on how I wish I had gotten a true college experience and had gone to a more intellectual school when I realized - I could still do that. There was a college I had first heard about in high school called St. John's College that covered in four years, many of the so called Great Books but without lectures, it's all discussion based or laboratory based as they cover science using classic experiments and original texts for everything. Two of the most interesting aspects is learning Ancient Greek and learning math from classic books like Euclid's Elements which I've always wanted to do to understand more of where the English language comes from and understand the basis of math which I've always though could be interesting in the right context. The college is pretty intense but that's exactly what I want, a place where people want to read and think about some of life's biggest questions by reading some of the most enduring books many of which I've always wanted to read and just needed some more structure and people to discuss them with. I feel like my intellectual development has been pretty stunted the last seven years and I know I need to take a big leap to become the person I've always wanted to be and this college is the perfect way to take my communication skills both written and oral to the next level. I am an ambitious person and I have big dreams of doing things to change the world but I need to build a strong foundation so that I can accomplish that so I think I need to take a risk to go to this college and become the person I want to be.

During the summer I started working on my application which consists of three essays talking about why I want to go to the college, a book that has influenced me and a significant experience that has left an impact on me and I'm working on finishing that up by the end of this month. The college has a January program that I'm looking to get accepted at where by going to school over the summer, I'll be all caught up with the freshman year program and will be a regular sophomore by the time next September comes around (but thankfully I will get a summer vacation right before the first potential Vividcon weekend). The college gives good financial aid so I'm not too worried about the money aspect, the bigger opportunity cost for me is the time but I think the education I'm getting will be worth it and I'll be doing part time jobs, volunteer work and internships during the school years and summer to help me figure out the best work for me to do after college and I always have a backup job as a programmer as well. One of the biggest negatives is the college is in Santa Fe and although the weather is not too much colder than LA (averaging 45-85 plus like 6 snow days blech), it'll still be a big adjustment leaving the city (and friends!) I love to be in a much smaller city with less things to do (although Albuquerque is only 45 minutes away and Denver/Phoenix are semi-close too). But I think it's worth it for this oppurtunity that I can't get anywhere else and I feel like I'll always regret it and wonder what if, if I decided not to do go. Plus I'll definitely be visiting LA during breaks, Escapade and during my free summers so I think I'll be able to survive. Another concern is the book list is not that diverse but I know there are book groups there that cover more classic books written by women, minorities and Eastern writers so I'll be sure to be reading them. Something I'm excited about is they have a lot of sports intramurals so I'll still be able to play soccer, tennis and there's lots of nature for hiking and even rock climbing. Most importantly, I'll finally get to have a true college experience and make lots of new friends as even though the college is small, people are very self-selected towards the kind of people I tend to get along with (minus your obligatory pretentious arrogant idiots) so I'm looking forward to that. It'll be a big life change for me but I think this is the best step I can make in working on becoming who I want to be and for my development to being able to help the world solve the major problems we're facing.

I originally was applying for this fall semester but I was having a hard time being ready for that so I decided to wait til January although I have a plan for what I will be doing in LA until then. A friend recommended to me a friend of hers who has a philosophy PHD and is willing to meet with me to go over classic texts that I want to start reading this fall so I can have some accountability and someone to discuss things with to prepare me for St. John's College. I'm planning on working on doing more reading (besides fanfic of course) this fall as I sample many books from nonfiction to fiction in many genres. I'm going to be focusing especially about reading books about California and LA as I want to work on solving problems in the state and want to become more knowledgeable about the issues surrounding the state. I also am going to be doing some volunteering with various organizations to learn more about LA and start figuring out what exactly I would enjoy doing for jobs. I also have a part time job I'll be working on to earn some extra money. Another big goal of mine for this fall is to start seriously trying to date while I still have time in LA which should hopefully give me more motivation to do it. I'm also continuing to work on improving my Spanish through Duolingo and translating Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone from Spanish to English using my Kindle App Spanish to English dictionary. And I definitely want to spend more time with my friends in Los Angeles while I'm still here.

Another big focus for me this fall is heath and fitness as I'd like to lose about 15-20 pounds before the end of this year. I signed up for an accountability type service which has been good with keeping me on track with my eating and exercise goals. Something inspiring for me was watching Kacey Cantanzaro complete the city finals course for American Ninja Warrior, an obstacle course competition where participants can win 500k for winning the finals course in Las Vegas. That inspired me to look into parkour and rock climbing which are two training aspects that some of the best competitors do. I figured that even if I don't make it, it'd be a fun goal to try to train for the course as it looks really fun and it's something that anyone can accomplish even if they don't have a lot of training when they were younger (unlike most sports). Thankfully there is a parkour (more accurately, freerunning) gym in the LA area and I've already taken two beginner lessons there and had fun practicing in the opening gym sessions. So far it's pretty basic, working on vaulting over objects and precision jumping, jumping from one ledge to another but it's been really fun and a great workout and I look forward to being able to do the crazy workouts I see in the gym. I was super scared about doing a flip from the high ledge into the pit (filled with soft foam stuff) but finally managed to gather my courage and did as well as do some flips on the trampoline. I also attempted to run up the warped wall they have in the gym and tried to jump from one bar to another (not there yet). I've also been into soccer as I really enjoy team sports so I signed up for a three days a week soccer class at my local community college and although it's a bit intimidating as it's all guys except one other girl and many of them want to compete on the soccer team at the college, so far I've been having fun playing (minus getting blisters on my feet from my new cleats). I even scored a goal during a game! We've been mostly just playing games which was a bit disappointing as I hoped to practice some skills work as well but it's been fun and I've been learning a lot even if it's been pretty hot playing during the summer. I've also been keeping up with my strength training workouts since March and been continually adding more weight to my lifts. Food is always tough for me as I hate cooking and love delicious food but I've been making a lot of progress and have lost three pounds so far.

I can't wait for the new TV season! I've been watching some of the trailers for the new shows and have added a few shows that I'm going to check out this fall. While A to Z has a couple of annoying things about it, it also features the Mother from HIMYM and as soul destroying it is seeing her, the show looks really cute and right up my romantic loving alley with the whole matchmaking element. I'm also excited for How to Get Away With Murder as Viola Davis looks amazing in it, the premise sounds fun and deliciously messed up and I will always trust Shonda Rhimes to do crazy things. I'm also going to check out Utopia which fascinates me as I've always loved thinking about how to create the perfect society although the reality show format makes me keep my expectations down. I am also looking forward to checking out Survivor's Remorse which is about a BASKETBALL PLAYER (!!!) who becomes successful and must deal with everything that comes with it which sounds super fun for me to vicariously see that side of things and is produced by Lebron James (who I've come to not hate since he went back to Cleveland) so I'm very curious to check it out. I kind of wish I could watch The Flash because the lead actor is a guy I found SUPER hot on Glee (Sebastian!) but I've sworn off all superhero shows unless it features a female/PoC lead so I'll just be checking out Agent Carter. Mostly I'm going to be listening to friends and critics to see if there are any high quality shows I should check out. I'm really looking forward to The Mindy Project, Faking It and Scandal coming back especially the first two as they feature two of my favorite ships. I'm mostly planning on using the fall to continue to catch up with some well written shows I haven't watched yet including Deadwood which I MUST finish by the end of the year. On the movie side of things, this summer I LOVED Maleficent (Maleficent/Aurora all the way!), enjoyed X-Men: Days of Future Past and am looking forward to seeing The Hunger Games 3, The Hobbit 3 and Annie (love the trailer!). On the sports side of things, my new soccer team is Bayern Munich since they have my favorite player, Arjen Robben, lots of German players from the national team like Müller, Neuer and Götze and my fave USA guy, Julian Green (although he's on loan to Hamburg this year) so I already have an emotional investment in them and will be watching all their games. I'm casually following the English Premier League (mostly for my USA/Germany people) and some college football as well and will be checking out my usual NFL teams this fall (although I'm still super bitter there's no LA team) such as the Bills, 49ers, Giants, Chargers and Jets. We'll see timewise what happens as once NBA seasons starts in late October and Syracuse basketball in November, most of my attention will go to that because YAY BASKETBALL. Hockey will be back in October as well and I will check out some Chicago games sometimes.

Super excited for Festivids! I have about 6 possible nominations at the moment although I worry about qualification for a couple of them but I'm excited about them and the vid ideas I want to make already. Before I get my assignment though, I need to start working on my Escapade vid as that's going to require a time committment and I have another vid idea I want to make for next year that I need to get started on clipping right now to get it done in time for VVC. I have another vid that's almost done that I should hopefully post in the next week as well. I have a couple ideas that require me to stretch my skills that I'm really excited about even if it'll be a challenge, it should be fun to do. Other fun fandom-y things coming up is a bunch of NorCal (and elsewhere) fangirls are planning a Fandom Beach Vacation where we rent a beach house and just hang out all day and I'm so excited to hang out with my fandom friends in November :) I also need to plan out what to do for my birthday in October this year, I have an idea and need to check if it's realistic. I still can't believe I'm going to be 27...is that officially late 20s? Eek. But hopefully with all the plans I have in place, I'll be ready to enjoy this time in my life shortly!

So I still need to finish my big travel post about my time in Europe (so much fun!) but for now I need to finish some end of the year memes. Here is the first although I'm not sure how many fandoms I'll remember this year.

End of the Year Fandom Meme

What fandoms did you acquire in 2013?

The Voice, Orange is the New Black, Spartacus, Masters of Sex, Vicious, Scandal, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Lost Girl, Orphan Black, Bunheads, Twin Peaks, Frasier (in S3), House of Cards, Top of the Lake, The Blacklist, Catfish, Vikings, Bates Motel, Lip Service, The Fosters (kind of), Hannibal (kind of), Parenthood (in S1), Portlandia (in S2), Louie (in S2).

What fandoms did you let go of in 2013?

I'm behind on a few shows but I still plan on catching up so I'm not going to add those. Walking Dead is dead to me for it's bullshit treating of characters (especially women/POC) and stupid Governor plot. Revenge might go if I can't get motivated to catch up on.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2013? Why?

Still in S1 for American Horror Story, Deadwood, Legend of the Seeker, Luther, The Hour and Justified although I intend on fully catching up on those. Other I didn't were Borgen, Political Animals and Boardwalk Empire. I still need to catch up on Misfits, Nurse Jackie, Treme and Damages. Mostly lack of motivation and time.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2014?

Big projects are to finish Deadwood and finally watch all of The X-Files. In no particular order, other stuff I want to check out: Borgen, Political Animals, Boardwalk Empire, Rectify, The Americans, Broadchurch, The Returned, Veep and keep going with Nashville.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2014 unless things significantly improve?

Downton Abbey especially is my favorite character dies/leaves the show. The Blacklist needs to ping more of my Alias buttons to keep my interest and Hannibal is still on notice and is mostly there for fandom/critical acclaim.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?

Game of Thrones, Parks & Recreation, Glee, Once Upon a Time (only because Swan Queen, I've been close to quitting), Arrested Development, Modern Family, Masters of Sex, Mad Men and a few others.

What show impressed you most in 2013?

Breaking Bad was simply AMAZING! The last eight episodes blew me away especially Ozymandias which was by far the best episode of the year. I also loved Game of Thrones (much improved from S2), Scandal (most addicting, cracky show ever!) and Parks and Recreation. On the movie side, Catching Fire was pretty awesome!

What show impressed you least in 2013?

I was really disappointed by the first four Homeland episodes and haven't caught up beyond that. I'm hoping it gets better after/next season. I was also disappointed by rookie shows like Agents of Shield and Super Fun Night.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?

GAME OF THRONES SEASON FOUR!!! JAIME/CERSEI BABY!!! Gonna be some epic stuff happening too and I'm soooo psyched for the Martells. Also the Veronica Mars movie! Which hopefully will be good like S1. Orange is the New Black! I'm super super bummed about the casting news but I'm hoping it'll be temporary and the show will still be awesome. Can't wait for X-Men: Days of Future Past (Erik/Charles!!!) and the fanfic binge that is sure to come with it. Also looking forward to Mockingjay I and The Hobbit 3.

Other possibilities: Looking (gay guys in SF led by Jonathan Groff? Sign me up!), Klondike? (Richard Madden!), The Normal Heart (love this cast/director/gay content!), Halt & Catch Fire (always nice to see a computer history drama) and True Detective sounds interesting narrative wise.

[Current Mood |excited]

Happy October everyone! As I posted on Twitter, I'm really excited about this month because it's my birthday month and I have some super fun stuff planned in store. This coming weekend, I'm going to see Gravity with a friend of mine after we do some hiking and on Sunday I'm going to see Maroon 5 (and Kelly Clarkson) in concert!! Soooo excited as I've fallen in love with Adam Levine after watching him being a hilarious, competitive, adorable dork on The Voice who can't stop flirting and being in love with Blake Shelton. HAVE I MENTIONED THEY ARE SUCH BOYFRIENDS??? Who say things like, "I would never cheat on you Blake?" THAT IS A THING THAT HAPPENED.

Ahem. I'm getting ahead of myself. The weekend after that or rather, pre-weekend on October 9th in the evening I'm driving to Las Vegas to go to Wincon! I'm going to be rooming with some awesome SF people and I'm looking forward to seeing [personal profile] nikibee again along with [personal profile] cee_m and many others! October 11 (friday) is my birthday and there will be fannish panels, hanging out with fannish people, a VIDSHOW (of which I have two vids, one premiering), Once More with Feeling and Rocky Horror Show screenings and hopefully a drunken birthday party full of fangirls. I'm sooooo excited! Plus I'm totally going to ride that roller coaster I saw last time. I am going to be going back early Sunday morning but that's because I have tickets to see the Blind Auditions (ie Adam/Blake FLIRTING NONSTOP) of The Voice with [personal profile] elipie! I can't wait!! Other fun things I'm planning on doing is getting a tattoo on my right ankle. It's my first tattoo as I've wanted one for a long time but could never justify the expense. It's going to be Nala from The Lion King like in my main icon. I figure I've been a fangirl of it for 21 years, I think it's a forever thing plus I've always felt my spirit animal, what I've been in another life, etc is a lioness so it's really important to me. The biggest thing for me is I'm going to go skydiving! It's always been in the top 3 things I want to do in my life since I love flying and want to feel like I am if only briefly. Will probably save it towards the end of the month.

A month ago I had an amazing time Labor Day Weekend getting to hang out with [personal profile] nikibee in the Bay Area. We watched Game of Thrones, Teen Wolf and Parks and Recreation and had a vidparty where we watched Vividcon vids with [personal profile] franzeska (who I had a great talk with!), Alice, Michelle, Dani and I think that's all? It was so much fun! We (Nicole, Alice and Michelle) also went to Oakland Pride and got to see En Vogue in concert and it was so great to get a chance to have some good talks with [personal profile] nikibee all weekend. I also went back to San Francisco near where I used to live and work and got to have lunch with someone from Dev Bootcamp which I also visited and got to talk to the founder who changed my life with letting me go to it. Unfortunately I left my favorite hoodie there and haven't been able to get it back :( I also visited the Berkeley campus which is SO BEAUTIFUL! Probably the prettiest one I've ever seen, it's like half nature reserve. Finally I went to a Haven party [personal profile] franzeska (who else? ;)) was throwing and got to say goodbye for a couple hours before I had to leave to catch my flight. Gotta say Southwest was awesome, they gave me a better seat when I complained I didn't know I had to check in for the return flight. It was a super fun weekend and I'm so glad I went!

Other than that, I've been working a lot. We had a big deadline a few weeks ago before our company presented a website at a conference. Some of the weeks I worked on interesting things and that was fun especially getting to pair with my mentor here but a couple weeks I didn't like what I was working on and kept getting distracted by the internetz at work which was less fun. We did go bowling last week as the conference went awesome and that was really fun! I've also been running more and I paid for a personal trainer so I can actually get a REAL strength training workout and that has helped a LOT with developing some muscles. I've always wanted to do chinups so that's my long term goal. I've been thinking about running a marathon next year as I need a big running goal to get me inspired to run more and I want to beat my last time (5.5 hours) and hopefully have a rain free experience. I've been eating a lot cleaner lately and did lose a little weight but got a little bored with it and regressed last week. No worries though, I varied my diet up and am doing better now. If there's anything I learned in the past it's not to give up and let little backslides trip you up.

The big news is I've decided to quit my job soon and go back to college to finally finish my degree. It's something I've always wanted to do and I've had enough of a taste of the real world working on something I kind of like but not love (even with the nice money benefits!) to want to go back to school and work on finding what I really want to do with my life. I'm going to continue study programming on my own and help code for the AO3 along with working on personal projects I'm hoping will lead to possible job opportunities or at least direction. I'm going to go back to community college for Spring 2014 and I'll be applying in the next two months to UCLA, CSULA and CSULB as a Philosophy major. Yes, Philosophy because I've loved the courses I've taken in it, I've always wanted to learn it and it requires a very low amount of credits so I can graduate fast as I'm aiming for May/June 2015. I'm also planning on volunteering at College Track during the time and maybe seeing if after I graduate I can get a job there or at a similar organization. Or maybe I'll do another programming job to save money/pay off debts, I don't know, we'll see.

Let's see...a couple weeks ago, [personal profile] elipie came over to watch vids, vid and talk with [personal profile] jetpack_monkey and I and it was a lot of fun! I've been trying to go to more meetups lately to meet new people and feel less lonely and so I went to a happy hour and met some cool people DTLA and also went to a hiking group last Saturday where I had some good talks with a couple people. The weekend before that I went hiking with my friend, Jen who has turned out to be one of my closest friends in LA even though she's a bit older than me. She used to be in a rock band but now is learning to program so we hang out a good amount to do that. But we hiked in Griffith Park and had a really long talk about life, fun things in our history and the future which was really great.

I've been missing my mom a lot lately. I didn't fully appreciate that when I felt lonely and couldn't reach any of my friends to talk, I could always call my mom and know she'd be there for me. It's just tough sometimes and earlier in the month I was feeling really lonely. I think of her every day whether in small moments or longer memories and it just hurts a lot. I just really wish she was back again :( Last Sunday was the three month anniversary of her death and it feels so far away and yet so close like I can vividly remember getting the call that she had died. I called my dad the other day and it was good to talk to him and hear he's doing well especially after my brother freaked me out saying he couldn't get a hold of him. I'm still terrified he's going to die, I just heard that statistically spouses are more likely to die after one of them dies so even with my dad's health issues, it's even scarier. I'm really looking forward to going back to see him for the holidays and my cousin and aunt as well, both who've been there for me a lot. I went to a meetup last Saturday with a group that's about women who've lost their mothers and it was really helpful talking to other people like me there. Someone said that the worst part is even if you have other people who help fill the hole your mother left, it's not the same as having MY mother there, she's mine and no one is mine in that way. And that's totally how I feel. It was helpful though and we got to smash plates and mugs to help let out the anger :)

On a happier note, I'm so happy fall TV season in back! I'm watching sooo many shows right now, omg. Monday I have How I Met Your Mother (ahhh THE MOTHER, brb happy crying), The Voice (Adam/Blake are SUCH BOYFRIENDS who flirt constantly, yay Christina and CeeLo being back and I love so many of the contestants already), The Blacklist (reminds me of Alias with Sydney and Jack (and Irina)) and I'm watching Mom purely out of love for Allison Janney who is a goddess. Tuesday I'm giving Agents of Shield a couple more episodes before I give up as I didn't like the characters (minus Coulson) and the plot, Brooklyn 9-9 (I really like it! it's funny and GREAT characters), New Girl (close to letting this one go again), The Minday Project (still sadly only love Mindy) and The Voice again (Blake is not doing an all country team again yay!!). Wednesday is Modern Family (yay gay marriage!) and I'm going to give Super Fun Night a try. Thursday is The Big Bang Theory (still sometimes funny, I love Sheldon but my god the gender issues), OUAT in Wonderland (going to give it a try), Glee (KURT/BLAINE DYING FROM LOVE AND SQUEEEE) and Parks and Recreation (still perfect and still LESLIE IS THE BEST). Sunday is Downton Abbey (I need to catch up actually), Once Upon a Time (MORE SWAN QUEEN, less boys pleeease) and Homeland (didn't really like 301 although I LOVE Carrie still). Lucky 7 is getting cancelled soon but I enjoyed the premise and focus on working class families so I'll continue watching. I didn't like Sleepy Hollow at all so I cut that. Any other good shiows I should watch? I'm currently catching up on Scandal (OLIVIA IS SO AWESOME and I love the addicting plots), Spartacus (deserves its own post but AWESOME!!!) and Twin Peaks (so pretty and I enjoy the plot).

On a happy/sad note, Breaking Bad is over :( But it went out on top! I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Hollywood Cemetery to see the Breaking Bad series finale live with the cast and creators of the show. I went early to get good seats and spent the day reading books (including Clash of Kings! still working on my reread) with blankets and my pillow until [personal profile] elipie showed up and we got to go in. We got good seats near the center but further back because there was a big VIP section for all the industry people who showed up. I went to checkout the RV where Walt and Jesse cooked their first meth and people were getting pictures with it and then AARON PAUL showed up and I quickly got in line but then he left but right near me so I was like 6 ft away from me. I got a picture in the RV though and it was so cool! We saw the Pilot of Breaking Bad (introduced by Aaron Paul being amazing) and then saw the Finale which was AWESOME!!! I'm so happy and fully satisfied with it. Sooo much better than The Sopranos and many other shows that can't stick the ending. I'm looking forward to doing a rewatch of the whole show and hopefully making some vids to it because it still needs ALL THE VIDS!! I read Sepinwall's review like my usual tradition (he helped me get into the show) but not reading any more because I'm sick of the negative stuff. I really loved seeing the cast Q&A after the finale, it was great to see it in person.

I've been working on a Game of Thrones vid that I'm really excited about so I'm looking forward to posting that sometime this month. I need to clear these vids off my plate because Festivids is starting!! I nominated some things and I have some requests but mainly I'm excited about making vids for people because I'll have more time than last year without the OUAT exchange. I already have 7 vids I want to make and I'm really excited to get my assignment and start. Last year was amazing and I'm hoping to have a wonderful experience this year as well.

Oh and I'm going to Europe next month! I can barely think about it, it makes me too excited and happy. Some background: I've been dying to go to Europe since like 2005? Since college started definitely especially London and Paris. It's something I want to do before I die and I've had to cancel every plan I've had to do it because of money but now that's no longer an issue! So Thanksgiving week I'm going to go to London, Paris, Munich (to visit [profile] infiniterain!!!) and Belgium (to visit [personal profile] indybaggins!) and I'm sooo excited to see some of the touristy stuff I've never seen in person. If you're in the area, let me know as I'd love to hang out! It's going to be an epic adventure I'm sure.

Wow that was long. This is what happens when I don't post for a month. I love that people are posting more to DW/LJ and am going to try to do the same, weekly is a good goal for me. I'm gonna see Laura Veirs with [personal profile] beerbad tonight which I'm excited about! A great start to my October :)

TV I'm Watching [Mar. 20th, 2013|07:41 am]

So I keep seeing the Books I'm Reading meme every Wednesday and I always feel left out because I basically am only rereading the Game of Thrones books right now (with lots of highlights!). But then I thought, I should just do it for TV since I'm trying to get through a lot of TV right now and I'm really bad at writing out my thoughts except sometimes on Twitter. So here is the book meme revised for TV:

What I've just finished: Bunheads! I really loved it and it filled the Gilmore Girls shaped hole in my heart. Michelle is such an amazing main character and cracks me up so much while having a bunch of issues that just make her ridiculously endearing. The show has so many cross generational relationships that are all wonderful, I particularly love Fanny and Michelle and the hilarious dialogue they have together. Initially Sasha rubbed me the wrong way but now I adore her the most of all the kids and her relationship Michelle is SO cute (and sometimes flirty heh). I love that the whole show is basically about women with a few guys as love interests and that once again, Amy has created a quirky small town full of fun characters including Gilmore Girls very own PARIS AND KIRK! I highly recommend it especially if you enjoy crackling dialogue, just give it 4-5 episodes to really grow on you as I do think GG had a stronger opening.

What I'm watching: Currently my go to watch show is Lost Girl! I have [personal profile] kerithwyn to thank for it as I had heard about the show before from Escapade (mostly [personal profile] killabeez) and I just did not want to watch another episodic show so I didn't watch. But this year during the Escapade Pimping panel, [personal profile] kerithwyn tried the hard sell on me: queer main character, sex positive, an ACTUAL lesbian relationship and a serial arc in S2 and I was intrigued. So I decided to give it a try while I'm clipping which helps me get past the episodic plots. So in the first episode there's this scene between Bo and Lauren and I'm just like, wow they have some intense chemistry, I ship it...turns out they're one of the main couples on the show, SCORE!! So yeah, by the 5th? episode or so, I'm hooked. Like so many others, Kenzi is my favorite and is just the Stiles of the show: hilarious, awesome and a very physical character. But I looove Bo and her power and OMG I OTP Bo/Lauren SO HARD!!! ACTUAL KISSING AND SEX YAY!!! This may be my favorite canon lesbian relationship ever, we'll see. It's just so fun to root for a queer couple that actually happens as much as I love Swan Queen, canon queer couples are my favorite always.

Other things I'm watching: Vikings which a lot of people on Twitter are talking about. I'm still not totally sold on it, I haven't connected with any of the characters yet and it needs a lot more women characters being awesome. But I LOVE the scenery and I think the concept is awesome because I've always wanted more history based TV shows as it makes it a lot more fun to learn about (yes I know it's not completely accurate). It's a little bit like Game of Thrones which is helping during the last two weeks before the Game of Thrones premiere (!!!). Other than that, I'm watching the usual suspects weekly: How I Met Your Mother, Cougar Town, The Mindy Project, Modern Family, Parks & Recreation, Glee, The Office, The Big Bang Theory, Once Upon a Time, Shameless (SO much love) and Girls (a bit behind though).

What I'm going to watch next: I started American Horror Story while clipping and I'm to around 105 so once I'm done with Lost Girl I'll go back to that. I started watching Parenthood too and will get back to that after Lost Girl (I am in must watch mode for it). The other two shows I'd like to get to is The Hour and finish watching Justified (still on 109ish there).

For other TV fans like me who sometimes have a little trouble keeping track of what they're watching, I found this cool website that lets you keep track of all the TV you've watched (including episodes) and gives you a calendar of shows that are on specific days as well as a great resource for seeing what shows you might want to watch. It's called Episode Calendar and the interface is the most beautiful and complete I've seen. Plus the guy running it is working on iOS and Android apps! I really love it so far.

TV is back!! And it is already an awesome, awesome thing. I am having too much fun on Tumblr (anoel43) reblogging my favorite shows. Here is my TV schedule so far with a couple new shows on there I still have yet to try out. So far my favorite new shows are The Mindy Project (SO MUCH LOVE), The New Normal and Last Resort.

Fall TV Schedule

Monday
8: How I Met Your Mother
8:30 Partners
Tuesday
9: New Girl
9: Happy Endings
9:30: The New Normal
9:30: Don't Trust the B
9:30: The Mindy Project
Wednesday
8: Arrow???
9: Modern Family
10: Nashville?
Thursday
8: Last Resort
8: The Big Bang Theory
8: 30 Rock
9: Glee
9: The Office
9:30 Parks & Recreation
Sunday
1ish: Downton Abbey
8: ONCE UPON A TIME
9: Homeland
9: Revenge

Obviously I love my comedies :) I'm super excited for The Mindy Project because I've loooved Mindy Kaling for a long time ever since I fell in love with the episode, The Dundies on The Office. And then I met her at a con and she was super nice to me, then I met her again at a WGA rally and she hugged me/remembered me and then I met her at my book signing and she remembered me again :) I loved her book, I think she's hilarious and I thought the show was super funny and it's so nice having a show with fun pop culture references that I love and centered around romance. I also love The New Normal mostly for David/Bryan, I looove seeing a gay couple on my screen each week that kiss a lot and Bryan cracks me up. I like the mom and Shania too but the other characters dont work for me much so I'm hoping for better. Partners is not as funny but I looove Michael Urie and having another main gay couple on my screen each week so I'm enjoying it.

Loving Parks and Recreation a lot too, LESLIE's back!! I'm really loving her character development so far. And of course I'm love Glee since they fixed the finale and it's so nice to have my favorite characters back. I do miss the ones that we don't see much (Santana!) but I love Jake (omg so cute) and Marley and most especially UNIQUE who helps make the episode for me now that I'm not getting as much Kurt/Blaine. Loving Kurt's plotline though, it's so great to see him happy and growing. I also finished Teen Wolf and LOVED it. Especially the second season. I pretty much slash all the guys but my favorites at the moment is Derek/Stiles (of course), Jackson/Scott, Derek/Jackson, Derek/Scott and Peter with any of the guys. Even Lydia's dad is slashy with the guys, I mean, come on. The girls sadly don't really do it for me but I enjoyed Allison's plotline in S2 and I have hopes Lydia will be back to her awesome self next season. My favorite is still Kate because I do love my badass (somewhat evil...) women. I specifically did Teen Wolf before Once Upon a Time because I knew OUAT has plenty of awesome women...

Which is one of the many reasons I LOVE Once Upon a Time. It's so cool to see so many great, active and non-love interest women in the spotlight, sometimes I still can't believe it. I watched the Pilot ages ago and I loved Regina a lot (SURPRISE) but because I haaaaated Cameron on House, it was really hard for me to get past my Jennifer Morrison issues. Yeeeeeah that's (mostly) gone now. After watching [personal profile] flummery's amazing Once Upon a Time vid at Vividcon, I knew I had to watch the show and I quickly fell in love with it. By the time Emma was cutting down apple trees, I loved her and by the time Regina was being sexy making comments like "Enjoy the shirt because it's the last thing you'll get" (OMG), I was shipping Regina/Emma (SWAN QUEEN)!!

It's funny because the other day I was making a list of my OTPs and I realized I had almost no femslash couples. Which makes me sad because it's not intentional or anything, I just haven't found any that I'm obsessive about. After thinking about it, I realized it's hard for me because I find it hard to ship two women who are friends in a BFF, happy together, sweet way because I don't find it sexy and it seems too close to just an actual friendship to me. To add to that, I tend to love women who are more...I hate using these kind of words but masculine, more badass, kickass women who aren't into talking all about their feelings and who are damaged, conflicted and have issues. That's what I find sexy and interesting and sadly in this TV/movie landscape it's hard to find ONE women like that, it's even harder to find TWO women like that in the same fandom and it's really hard to find two women who have an actual layered relationship with a dynamic with enough similarities and differences to make things interesting (that I connect to). So I feel so incredibly lucky to find Regina and Emma that meet all that criteria for me and that have BLAZING sexual chemistry (omg too hot) and that have FIGHTS AGAINST WALLS (bulletproof kink that hit me so much during Teen Wolf) and yet genuinely care about each other even if a lot of it is started by Henry. What I love about Regina and Emma together is it makes PERFECT sense within the context of the show, by getting together, Henry has two moms who don't have to fight over him, it forgives Snow White because although she took her away Regina's chance at love, she then gave her TRUE LOVE back so they can all be a happy family (with a little bitterness because fun) and they can all live happy ever after. At least that's the way I see it.

Spoilers for Once Upon a Time S1 and 201 )

Regina/Emma fic recs!

Halfway Through The Wood by fictorium: This is my favorite fic so far, it's an AU based on the TV show Awake where Emma "died" in one world and Henry "died" in another word. It just gets to me emotionally and it pushes all my Swan Queen buttons.
somewhere, someone must know the ending by maleficently: OMG this fic!! AU where there is no curse, just Storybrooke and Regina and Emma were in a serious relationship and then broke up and now Henry wants them back together so he *imagines* the curse. It's a WIP but it's SO GOOD and I constantly get super excited when it's updated which is fairly often.
A Queen Without Power by [personal profile] buffied: Picks up after the S1 finale and has an AMAZING slow burn that just killed me completely with love. It's a WIP but still is being regularly updated, so worth it.
Thicker Than Oceans by adventurepants: Super, super cute Regina/Emma in a relationship fic with my favorite Snow yet. Love it!
Paint It Black by wily_one24: OMG this fic. This is Evil Queen/Emma and it is put as "Exteme dub-con" which should not be taken lightly. That being said, I looooved it and it's really hot and fucked up (which makes it hot) and it's very, very long and fun. Definitely an interesting take on their relationship.

I have many more fic recs but for now that's fine. I haven't devoured fic this much in a long time so it's fun. I'm also making a Swan Queen vid right now which is so much fun. It keeps taking a long time to finish but that's vidding for you. It definitely different from my normal style but in a good way and I'm learning a lot. I realized the other day I haven't had a TV OTP in a LONG time, Kurt/Blaine (less so) and House/Wilson were the last so this is very exciting...and scary considering how weird it is to get things week to week. But thankfully on Sundays I also have another amazing show to watch...Homeland! SO happy with the Emmy wins, soooo well deserved and I was so happy to see Mad Men finally beat. I love the show but S5 did not deserve Best Drama at all and if it couldn't be Breaking Bad, Homeland is my next choice.

Spoilers for Homeland S1-201 )

I'm dying to keep working on my Carrie vid now. Swan Queen vid first then hopefully I can finish it before Festivids. So excited for [community profile] festivids! I can't wait to see all the vids for small fandoms and I have plenty I'd love to make. If only vidding didn't take so loooong. Or I had more time in the day.

[Current Music |"It's Not Over" by Daughtry]

So I've made a few efforts to set up Tumblr and start using it but those have failed miserably. I am trying again though because I feel like fandom is moving there at least somewhat and I don't want to get left behind and feel old which is just weird to say at my age. So my Tumblr is: here and feel free to follow if you like. I get bored pretty easily by a lot of pictures so I don't know how often I'll post but I'll at least check it every day. Please let me know what your Tumblr's name is if you have one. There's a poll in my LJ if that makes it easier.

I've been super busy these days so I feel kind of out of fandom. Still keeping up on a my shows for the most part at least Glee, New Girl, Modern Family, Happy Endings, Revenge, Parks & Rec, The Office, The Big Bang Theory, 30 Rock and The LA Complex. Speaking of, I definitely urge everyone to check out The LA Complex! I don't want to spoil anyone but there's a great gay plot on there that I'm currently in love with even when it destroys my heart. Plus it has Jewel Strait! It's all about a group of Canadien kids trying to make it in the entertainment industry in Hollywood. It makes me miss Los Angeles even more which I've been doing a lot lately. San Francisco is just no substitute. I don't think I've ever felt quite this homesick in awhile and it made me realize I almost always get homesick only for LA.

I'm all signed up for Vividcon! Cannot wait to go. Also looking forward to Escapade this weekend. It'll be SO nice to get to talk to fans again and watch vids. I'll be interested to see what people get out of my premiere vid this year. Escapade is much less panel heavy than Vividcon for me so I'm hoping to have more time to talk to people there. Also going to stop in Downtown LA after (even though its at least an hour drive) to see my city again as like I mentioned, I miss it like burning.

Been kind of tired lately, my body keeps finding ways to wake up and not getting back to sleep so it's been a struggle to get sleep which is hard when I'm learning all the time. Things are going good though and I enjoyed getting a chance to hang out with [personal profile] laurashapiro the other day. I've been enjoying all the delicious food here in SF as well and I found a great cafe/lounge here with a fireplace, good food, fast internet/outlets and colored lights which I love. I have so little time that I'm starting to have to prioritize more and only do the essential stuff. I am very grateful for my iPhone so I can keep up on social networking/fandom while walking around everywhere. We'll see what happens.

Thanks to everyone who sent me glass hearts! They are much appreciated.

End of the Year Fandom Meme 2011 [Dec. 31st, 2011|07:27 pm]

Not a great year for acquiring fandoms but I will still do the fandom end of year meme.

End of the Year Fandom Meme )

I have to make another plug for everyone to watch Parks & Recreation because it is just THAT good. Best show of the year, hands down. Alan Sepinwall also put it as #1 and describes it much better than I could (spoilers taken out):

"But overwhelming joy is a visceral reaction, too, and that's the feeling I get these days watching "Parks and Recreation." Yes, it can be a gut-bustingly funny comedy..., and that alone is an impressive achievement. But what puts "Parks and Rec" over the top for me is the sheer level of happiness it creates in me as I watch it. It's a political comedy with a fundamentally optimistic viewpoint. It generates most of its comedy not by mocking its characters for being inept..., but by showing the ways in which they are incredible. It's a show that's overflowing with love and understanding for all of its characters..., one that can be unbelievably romantic and sweet about things that would be so easy to just mock, ... In 2011, no show gave me greater pleasure to watch, week after week, than "Parks and Recreation." Original Article

S1 is not the best but after that the show is AWESOME! Go watch.

[Current Music |"Sweet Caroline" by the Glee Cast]

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! I'm so thankful for everyone on my Flist and in fandom, it's like a second home to me. Also thankful for living in the great city of Los Angeles, for my family and friends and the wonderful electronics (iPhone!!!) and car I have. It's just good to be alive and hopeful for the future. I forgot the fun of holidays where it just makes you feel all happy and grateful and full of goodwill towards everyone. It also helps that I'm very thankful traffic was not very bad today ;)

Today I went down to the OC to visit some family I have there and it was great to see everyone there. Had a delicious meal, I'm a stuffing girl so that's my favorite but the yams were amazing as well as the mashed potatoes and turkey. And of course watch some football although not having a team to really root for isn't as fun. I'm dyyying to get an LA football team, I hope they hurry up and build the downtown football stadium and convince a team to come here (selfishly I hope for the Jaguars because I looove the name). It was also funny because most of us has iPhones, 5/9 and I don't know what 3 people had. There was also an iPad being passed around for games. It was fun :)

Currently working on a vid I'm super excited about along with a couple Festivids as well trying to learn Ruby on Rails again. Also a great app if you have an iPhone/iPod Touch is Oink which is like Yelp except you rate items INSIDE a place like what menu item is the best and stuff. But you can also rate TV, movies, books, etc. It needs more people although there's a growing userbase but I'm very addicted to it now and I love the idea. Let me know if you join, I'd love to follow some more people.

I am sadly running out of comedy TV. So I'm going to ask here to see if I can get some more recommendations. Here is all the comedy TV I've seen (only half hour): The Office, Arrested Development, Parks & Recreation, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Cougar Town, 30 Rock, Scrubs, Better Off Ted, 2 Broke Girls, New Girl, Happy Endings, Will & Grace, Nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, Weeds, Shameless, Sex & the City, Entourage, Flight of the Concords, So Notorious and The Office UK...I think that's all. Don't say Community because I've seen 1.5 seasons of it I don't like it. I'd prefer single camera shows (no laugh track) and shows from the past 20 years or so but I'm open to others if they're funny with likable characters. Also I probably am going to give It's Always Sunny another try as I didn't like the first two episodes. Any other good comedies that aren't on this list?

GLEE GLEE GLEE! EEEEEEEEEEEEE. Now this is what I'm talking about.

Spoilers for Glee 218 )

Glee/Ashley = Happiness, still in effect. So glad for good TV although I've been so busy on the weekdays that it's been hard to enjoy it while then I end up with not enough TV on the weekends. Gah. Hoping to make it through the many Doctor Who AND Community posts on my Flist without needing to take an LJ break but I think I'll be fine, the disconnect can just be tough sometimes. Also Improvaganza has been frustrating with the lack of Colin :( Sorry but Ryan/Colin is a LOT of my reason for watching and squeeing madly so it just disappoints me a lot. It has been making me reread a lot of my favorite fic and I'm feeling reeeally inspired vidwise. So hopefully I'll FINALLY make something for Ry/Col at some point. Which will be good as I'm not going to be able to finish my Club Vivid vid. Work has just been too crazy and I've been feeling really uninspired. IDK I just want to vid whatever I want to vid, no deadlines. Hopefully I'll have something for Premieres though.

Life is...going. Work is great but busy and kind of crazy right now with a ton of stuff going on. Excited about tomorrow though, one hectic day yesterday and a trip to Santa Monica later and I now have my outfit all ready. Been feeling kind of lonely but I'm trying to deal with it and stay focused on other stuff. It's been kind of roller coaster-y lately but I'm trying to stay focused on the good. This day had a lot of it so that's something. Here's to tomorrow being AWESOME. Much like Kurt :)

Spoilers for Glee 202 )

Besides that, things have been up and down (public transportation is hell). And very hot which I can't complain about, just not as much fun when you're walking around a lot. Been catching up on some shows including Dexter (OMG awesome), Mad Men (EPICALLY AWESOME! again), Cougar Town and HIMYM (not too funny but I love the characters). Also Cougar Town deserves major props for making me like the main couple together. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT! Seriously TV shows, don't shove them down people's throats, just let them interact and let what happens good or bad happen. I am impressed. Also the finale ending was perfect last season.

Man I forgot what a night with a new Glee episode is like. PURE HEAVEN. There is just nothing like getting a new episode and obsessing over it, having the songs on repeat and being in love with everyone and all the ships. Almost every scene is pure gold or has some awesome part to it (and I'm saying almost just in case). I am dying to go to next year's concerts, just watching the episode's songs was making me scream and it's just going to be ecstacy next year getting to see it many more times. I love them all SO MUCH!

Spoilers for Glee 201 )

Just preparing for LA at the moment. I found the PERFECT job for me with TV and social media which I'm hoping I'll get although my hopes are low. Also watching more TV, liking Boardwalk Empire so far, How I Met Your Mother was meh with potential, liked Lone Star and Hawaii-Five O is SO not my thing (bored by the characters AND plot).

Oh yeah, I didn't think I had a reason to use Tumblr but then I wanted to make a fashion blog with just looks I love. And so here it is. It's highly personal, just my favorite outfits and clothes but hey, if you're interested, feel free to check it out.

I am so creatively inspired right now, most since I got home from Vividcon. MUST VID GLEE. Thank god I have two projects to work on for it.

Vividcon 2010 Con Report (Much delayed) [Sep. 15th, 2010|06:15 pm]

[Current Mood |restless]
[Current Music |"Rose's Turn" sung by Chris Colfer]

This has been started and stopped so many times it's ridiculous. But here it is, my Vividcon 2010 con report:

Vividcon 2010 Con Report )

In other news, been feeling kind of withdrawy and procrastiny lately but trying to crawl out of that hole. At the moment, I'm totally in love with fashion which nicely coincides with New York Fashion Week. I've been watching The Rachel Zoe Show which is hilariously awesome and I am SO IN LOVE with Brad Goreski. Like, I keep saying I'd marry you (not literally cause he's gay) but like if I could create the looks of my future husband (hypothetically speaking), it'd be him (with a different personality although I do love his). He's just so cute and funny with perfect style. I die. I may now be saying this all the time cause of the show.

The biggest news is I'm moving to LA! I'm moving up the move date til next week which is kind of crazy but sometimes that is how the timing works out. I'm super excited, I really need to get away from this place which is cold after a delightfully warm 90s period (way too few this summer, barely got to the beach) and I'm sick of my parent's house and this city and just everything. I need a new environment, one that I love and that is completely inspiring to me. A bit worried about finding a job but I am determined to apply everywhere as soon as I get there and hopefully it'll all work out. I found a place though right near Hollywood and Highland that I'm really excited about. I really can't wait and I hope to get to visit with some LA people on my Flist.

On the new TV front, I'm FINALLY starting to get excited about this TV season. Started watching the new pilots and I'm surpringly pleased. Hellcats was cute but not my thing, Nikita was awesome in a girls kick ass and I like the two girl main characters way and Terriers was surprisingly lovable and possibly serial. Giving the latter ones a few episodes to see how serial they are which is going to be my main criteria this season besides funniness (for comedies). The shows I'm most looking forward to this season are sadly few but I'm going to check out Boardwalk Empire (should be a good replacement Treme), My Generation (exactly the kind of thing I like), Lonestar (supposed to be good and pure serial, I'm in) and Undercovers and I'm giving Hawaii Five O, Running Wilde, The Event and No Ordinary Family a couple episodes. Catching up on Gossip Girl now (I stopped early S3) and it's surprisingly enjoyable if only for the fashion (and the Lady GaGa appearance, DIE).

Oh yeah, we have two new kittens who are SO CUTE. Pictures to come in future posts. Going to be the worst part about moving.

Well the Emmys were MUCH better than usual tonight. One thing kind of disappointed me but whatever I'm happy and there were LOTS of awesome surprises. The opening was the best ever (yay Glee!) and the Modern Family video thing later was hilarious. I just love TV and watching people who love it too. When does fall TV season start? I need my shows back.

Anyways, anyone want a TVTorrents invite? I have 3 and I'll give you lots of credits to go along with it. The uploads are up fast and you get good download speeds so I'm always using it.

Also anyone have any ideas for instrumental music (or instrumental portion of song) that might fit Stringer Bell? I may have just rewatched The Wire S3 and fell completely in love with him/it again. Although wow I forgot a LOT about what happened in that season. Avon/Stringer are still OTP though, holy shit man they are SO deep. Kills me everytime. I actually thought a certain scene from S3 wouldn't destroy me this time (if you've seen it, you know it) but I was totally wrong. God, show. But yeah, that season was amazing as is the entire show. I will never get over it. Also I got ANOTHER vid idea for The Wire although it's a S1-5 ensemble kind of vid so it's a bit overwhelming and I keep having a million ideas for things that work with it in the show.

Apologies about the delayed con report (which is ALMOST done) and Adam Lambert concert (which was AWESOME) report. I am horrible at these things. But at least I'm getting vidding done? So there's that.

[Current Mood |lethargic]
[Current Music |"California Nightlife" by Mochi Beats]

Why do every year I come up with a list of things to do before Vividcon and then the week before it, I stop caring about the list and just want to have fun at VVC? Argh it's happening again. I reeeeally need this vacation to happen right now and I'm so sick of all the stuff I need to do before it. All I can think of is the vids and the people and the funtimes and the relaxation and the PREMIERING VIDS!

The best news that I'm super excited about right now is I'm going to LA!!! I've decided to postphone traveling the world til later next year (probably after Vividcon because I totally plan my life around it heh) when I'll have more experience and money. I've decided to focus on motion graphics design because I like it much better than web design as I love motion so much more than static designs and you can can do more flashier stuff with it. Still trying to learn a lot right now but I'm hoping to save enough money to move to LA in October, probably after my birthday. This way I get to avoid the cold weather and FINALLY be in a place that I love with a lot more opportunities/networking in my field. I'm going to be living really cheaply, getting a job asap while trying to build a business on the side. The best part is that I have the whole city to explore and I can have fun just by walking around (contrary to popular belief, some people do walk in LA) and looking at all the beautiful sights. LA is just home to me, down deep in my soul and it miss it with every part of my soul.

I've been enjoying TV a lot this summer, old, new and catchup shows. My long delay in watching Sherlock basically comes down to me being profoundly sick of episodic shows and afraid to see yet another show that fandom loves that I can't get into, slash aside. I'm trying to stay positive though and focus on the two categories of shows I do enjoy: fun, relationship/character centered shows that keep me happy about the world (Glee, good comedies) and brilliant, serial well written beautiful narrative shows (Mad Men, Treme, FNL) that even when they break me down, lift me up in the wonderful narrative goodness. Brief rundown:

Summer:
True Blood: Getting better but still needs moar Pam and Lafayette.
Huge: Favorite new summer show! I thought it would be badly written and cliche like fellow ABC Fam shows Make It or Break It (which I really wanted to like but couldn't get past the bad dialogue) and Pretty Little Liars but I really love it a lot and even though the writing isn't the best or anything, the characters are. Will (Nikki Blonsky is so great) and Becca are my favorites (LOVE their relationship) and I'm dying to vid them. There's even a LARPing episode!
Losing It With Jillian: I like more Jillian time and more personal stuff with her but the episodes became a little too similar for me after awhile sadly.
Entourage: Still fun, still entertaining, still love the look inside Hollywood. Not liking Vince that much this season but loving Ari's stoyline.
Mad Men: LOVED the premiere! Not the second episode as much but I'm just liking being around the time period and characters and style again. Even the commercials are good/tied into the show! I do miss Sal a ton though, it'll never be the same without him.
ETA: The Real L Word: Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm watching it for the gay and the LA/Hollywood connection and it does deliver on that. Unfortunately none of them are really my type and the storylines such as they are, are kind of boring. I wish there was more single people, having them all be couplely (minus one) is kind of boring. I do have some kind of girl crush on Tracy who is just ridiculously beautiful and I love Stacie who actually is hilarious. Mikey would be my other favorite although as much as I love Fashion Week, it can get a bit old.
Catchup:
Treme: Spoilers for S1 of Treme )
Friday Night Lights: Spoilers for S4 of FNL AND MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE WIRE S1/S4. Do not read if you haven't seen it )

Behind on some shows for VVC, was hoping to catch up on Dexter, Dollhouse, Twin Peaks and maybe Justified, LotS S2 and Fringe S2 but I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to get down. Let me know if you think any are particularly necessary ;)

The weight loss challenge didn't go as well as I hoped for various reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture but I did lose some so it's not a total loss. If I've learned anything this year, it's that everything happens according to it's own timeframe and as long as you're working toward your goals, it's okay.

I'll be at Vividcon around 12:30pm or so on Thursday and plan to hang out in the lobby/go to welcome party/pre-reg so let me know if anyone wants to hang out at all then. I'm doing an all panel schedule except the Queer vidshow (because I MUST go to that of course) and will be taking notes (with my laptop!) on all of them. I'll be in Chicago til Monday, planning on going out to a nice restaurant for lunch and then will go to the airport around 4 PM or so. I'm always willing to talk or hang out with anyone who comes so let me know if anyone wants to make specific plans. But please, don't talk negative stuff about Glee in front of me because it's the quickest way to make me run in the opposite direction. I can't wait to see everyone and looking forward to seeing new people I haven't met yet!

The Glee episode I've been waiting for!!! It both fulfilled and slightly disappointed for the obvious reasons:

Spoilers for Glee 120 )

My excitement at seeing the Glee concert this Friday keeps growing!! I can't wait to be with a crowd of people who all *get* it, who get the Glee love and are crazy Gleeks like me who'll sing and scream and dance and love. Mmmm heaven.

Two comm recs: in case you missed it like me: [profile] lgbtq_recs LGBTQ recs!! Cause I always need more. And [community profile] ao3vidders is a vid auction to benefit the OTW in the hopes of eventually getting a vidding archive like the Archive of Our Own fic one. The vidders are all out of my price range but it's a great way to make a vidder do your bidding!

So glad Lost is finally over and hopefully people, really the media, will stop talking about it. I am so unsurprised a lot of questions went answered because that's what happens when you don't plan out your super plotty show from the beginning. Show creators, take note. On another negative note, I cannot agree more with Johnny Weir in hoping Evan (boo hiss) doesn't win DWTS and after his disgusting negative comments about Johnny recently I am only more vindicated that he is an ass who I continue to despise with every fiber of my being only rivaled by RTD.

But enough with the negativity, I am in a good mood right now with Glee love. Although only two more episodes left oh noes. Then again, summer does bring some new shows including Losing It With Jillian (Jillian Michaels all the time being awesome and hot? sign me up) June 1st, True Blood June 13 (PAM AND ERIC AND LAFAYETTE guhhh) and a whole bunch of shows I plan to check out. Yay TV!

[Current Music |Glee 119 music]

Since it's all I can get myself to post about these days:

Glee Spoilers for 119 )

My favorite Glee thing which is exactly what I hoped for when I saw the show is this Glee Flash Mob where people get together and form dances to Glee songs! Here's the first I think from Seattle:

I wish there was this kind of creativity around every corner. I totally want to join one! There's another one from Ohio U that is even more appropriate since Glee is set in Ohio. It just makes me so happy to see so many of them :)

Besides that nothing much else happening besides, work, working out, watching TV and trying to work on my hopeful Premiere vid as well as keeping up with fandom. Well that and my growing crush on Jillian Michaels guhhh. Oh also excited about Upfronts and the new TV shows for next year. Still most excited for Undercovers which yes, it's JJ so I do not trust it BUT the premise reminds me of Spyrents so I am looking forward to see if he can possibly capture that dynamic, if a little, again. Is there anything anyone wants me to post about this week? Cause seriously, I'm out of ideas right now.

Oh and anybody who watches House: has there been any super slashy House/Wilson episodes since The Down Low? I haven't seen any since then and unless it's H/W filled, I don't plan to.

End of the Year Fandom Meme )

Fannish Year Meme )

End of the Year Meme )

Also I finished True Blood S2. Spoilers for True Blood S2 )

I have finally figured out that part of the reason I love Eric so much is that he reminds me of Brian Kinney. Not just the clothes but he has the same kind of looks where you can see the vulnerability underneath them as well as a similar sexy aura.

Anyways, basically I am okay with this year. The highs were balanced by the lows so it all turned out pretty okay. I need to change it up though so I'm hoping I'll follow through on my goals this year. The year has gotten me to the place I need to be in for next year and I didn't mess up anything so much that I can't come back so all in all it's been good. I am making good progress on my Festivids vid on my new computer which is sooo wonderful and perfect. My vid output of one vid this year was disappointing but I'm giving myself a break because of tech trouble. 2010 does not have this excuse and I have five vids in planning that I really want to get done. It's wonderful having a fast computer where Premiere takes 5 seconds to load and it's easy to clip and vid. Onto the future!

Happy New Year everyone :)

[Current Music |"Aftermath" by Adam Lambert]

Update about me, college, TV/fandom, Adam Lambert and my plans for next year )

Adam Lambert's CD, For Your Entertainment comes out Monday!! Everyone go buy it, for it is awesome. My favorite songs so far are Music Again (best.chorus.ever.) and Surefire Winners for it's great lyrics (I was born with glitter on my face/My baby clothes made of leather and lace/And all the girls in the club wanna know/Where did all their pretty boys go?...!!!) and I love the pure dancability of Fever (there HE goes, my baby walks so slow...HE!), Strut, If I Had You and For Your Entertainment. I also love Soaked (ORCHESTRA epicness!) and Sleepwalker is ridiculously beautiful. All the songs are just so amazing, I can't even say. He is definitely worth supporting. And he's performing his single for the first time at the AMA's tomorrow! I am so excited I can't even say. I'm sure the concert will be presented amazingly like him.

Speaking of Adam, I have a favor to ask. Please please please if you could click this Demand It link to get Adam, Kris and Allison to perform in NYC (I wanted LA but NYC is ahead so let's go with that-plus I may be closer anyways who knows) it would be awesome. It only takes a minute, I swear. You can put New York City or zip code, 10001 in the box. I need to see some Kradison live in concert!

[Current Music |"When I Am Through With You" by The VLA]
[Current Mood |satisfied]

So I just finished marathoning Damages S1. Wow. What a ride. I can't believe that I hadn't heard it was a wonderful serial drama beforehand but when I gave it a try awhile ago, I fell for it instantly. I highly recommend it. If you like awesome women and relationships between them, definitely check it out. If you love serial dramas that have a plan and mysteriously suck you in as they unfold a conspiracy, check it out. If you like strong, morally ambiguous, rational characters, check it out. If you like good TV, check it out. My favorite character by far was Patti Hewes who was just awesome and is the aforementioned morally ambigous character that is the type that I love so much. Glenn Close is amazing as her and the character kind of reminds me of Irina which is always appreciated. And the plot is completely addicting, that's why I waited til Spring Break started (now YAY!) to watch it all. I usually am blah about legal dramas because they're usually one case per episode which puts me to sleep but this is one case throughout an entire season which gets you really invested even besides the thriller aspect of it (plus there's no actual trials involved). Also the theme song is amazing and perfect.

Brief notes on the season one finale: Spoilers up to Damages S1 Finale )

Another show I randomly got into is a show called Party Down which airs on Starz which apparently is making original programming now. Basically it's a Veronica Mars reunion comedy. Not only does Rob Thomas co-write it but Vinnie (the other PI) is in the cast alone with Dick (who plays a similar character) and the lead played a guest character from VM. And the guest stars include Keith, Logan and Meg and I'm just waiting for Veronica to show up. It was nice to see all of them again. It's basically about a catering company in LA with a bunch of actor/writer/comedian type hopefuls. I was so-so on the first episode but found the second one hilarious and am definitely tuning in for more now.

Another show I'm loving is United States of Tara which stars Lynette Collette from Little Miss Sunshine. I was so happy to see her get an even better, more interesting role here and she amazes me in how well she portrays a woman with multiple personalities. It's pretty amazing. Of course, me being me, my favorite is Marshall who is gay and I love how casually his family treats that. He's an adorable film and cooking geek who I'm utterly charmed by. The season's over now but it's a great show that I definitely recommend. It's written by Diablo Cody and although it doesn't have quite the charm of Juno, I really like it and after a few episodes got very attached to it. Also it stars Madge from Mad Men (which omg the S3 preview! nothing new but I can't wait til summer).

I also found a new show that I'm loving on ABC called Better Off Ted. It's a comedy which I'm usually wary of but it's single camera without a laugh track and I find it pretty funny with a quirky edge. It's about this ultra-corporate company with not so good aims (think Barney's company from How I Met Your Mother) with these funny commercials advertising it in a nice way. It has these two adorable (slashy) scientists who are too cute together and my favorite is Ted's boss Veronica (Portia de Ross-this might be why it reminds me of Arrested Development) who is very emotionless and strictly business in a hilarious way. All in all, it makes great reflections on corporate culture and the science possibilities of the future and if you're looking for a comedy, I'd check it out.

So finally now it's Spring Break and I'm so excited to have some free time. Going to do some vidding, watching TV (including catch up on T:TSCC-wish it wasn't so slow right now, Psych, Flashpoint, Desparate Housewives-Marc Cherry's coming to my school!, Dark Angel, Carnivale and The West Wing...we'll see what I get done) and playing tennis. Mmmm sounds nice and then I have my Florida trip in a week!

Marry me, Doris Egan [Mar. 9th, 2009|08:46 am]

[Current Music |"Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service]
[Current Mood |ridiculously romantic]

Can Doris Egan write every episode of House from now on? Seriously, she's the best at it and every episode by her makes me happy. In honor of her amazing episode of House tonight, for the first time ever I changed my journal title to "Doris Egan is my God" because she really, really is. I think she's my favorite writer now that Dollhouse isn't going as well as I hoped.

HOUSE OMG! I am massively in love. Have to watch it a few more times before I have more to say but briefly Spoilers for House: The Social Contract )

I seem to be spoiled by the TV gods lately. First, The Office AND 30 Rock are amazing and fill me with love (more on both of those in another post-still catching up) and now we have House coming first circle with a pre-celebration last week and a post celebration this week. I am in heaven. And I really could use it, last week being what it was and having so much to catch up with. THIS reminds me why I'm doing all this, why I want to go into the industry, why I will do whatever I can to save my shows and all the others that need saving.

So I'm home from Escapade thankfully. Not that I didn't have an AMAZING time there but getting back was really hard and long. Everytime I completed a leg of my journey I went, yatta! \o/ because it was so great. Only one travel curse incident at least. Got home at five yesterday and after checking my email slept for fifteen hours. I definitely needed it. But the con was SO worth it and I met some wonderful people and reconnected with others while going to interesting panels and watching lots of vids. It just filled my soul in the way that only fannish interaction can. I tried to explain this in a meeting today and it just reminded me how lucky I am to have people who get what being a fan and a slash fan is and why it's so important.

Also more good news: my computer speakers work again! Randomly they started working which is the best news I've heard yet. And I may yet get some money which would really help with the money woes.

And perfect lyrics for my favoritist slash ship of them all, House/Wilson:

And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay

And by God, I mean Doris :D

ETA: If anyone would rec me the most romantic House/Wilson fics you know of, I'd love you (almost) as much as House loves Wilson.

I'm really excited about it and have been making daily to do lists in order to keep tabs on what I need to do. I'm using a small notebook to write down all my thoughts and ideas and so far it's proving very helpful.

My first thing is getting the money to go back to Chapman or my backup, Santa Monica College. Who knows how that'll turn out but I've been working on getting financial aid from both. Chapman starts classes on January 26th so hopefully I'll be leaving a few days before then and Santa Monica starts in mid-February but I'll be trying to leave as soon as possible to get out of the cold. I've decided to major in Computer Information Systems while taking some TV classes and doing a lot of TV research and experience on the side so I can get in the industry or some job related to TV after I graduate. I'd major in TV but the major at my school is focused on the creative side of things and as much as I love art, I'm just not an artist in the true sense of the word and don't want to waste my time struggling through scriptwriting classes (not to mention the application). I'm interested in getting some computer and business skills so this major totally works for me (low on essays helps too). So for the rest of my list:

1) Get all A's and B's in my classes. This is the most important thing and goes before everything else. I need to prioritize and not save things til the last minute which can be paralyzing if it's a big task. It's a huge boost to my confidence and self-esteem if I do this so I'm going to keep it at the top of my list. This blog is proving helpful with lots of good tips for any students out there.

2) Be at a healthy weight and stay healthy by playing a sport. I reeeeeeally can't wait to get back to California so I can play tennis outside along with many other sports. Running is alright but I don't like to exercise unless it's fun and sports are lots of fun for me.

3) Meet new people, find new friends and develop some good relationships. I really miss my friends at Chapman (and my cushy job) but I'd really like to branch out and meet more people like I wish I'd done more my freshman year. I especially want to meet some more TV lovers even if they don't go to my school.

4) Make every effort to have a romantic relationship. Cause I really, really want one and I have lots of romantic experiences I'd like to have. Doesn't hurt to try.

5) Finish at least three vids. I'd even limit it to two just as long as I finish my auction vid and a Vividcon one. I just need to get something done this year as my fannish output last year was quite pathetic.

6) Keep up with TV and finish at least The West Wing, The X-Files and The Sopranos.

7) Build, organize and listen to music collection including classic albums and top contemporary ones.

8) Read Wicked (finish), LotR, The Temeraire Series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Watchman.

9) Read Plato, Aristotle, other classics and nonfiction about TV and business.

10) Volunteer for LGBT rights/Obama.

11) Watch vids, keep up on feedback, stay caught up in fandom.

12) Learn Spanish because it's necessary when living in Los Angeles.

That's the plan. Now it's just a matter of going out and doing it.

On another note, once again my computer is having problems (of the unmountable boot volume variety) and I am ready to throw my computer off my desk, Lex style. Or Barney style as the case may be. So I may not be around as much until that gets fixed.

Happy New Year everyone! Kinda late, yes but I hope the first month of everyone's year is going well. Just a reminder that January 15th is More Joy Day basically where you spread some joy around by doing something nice anyway you can. For example, while getting drinks for New Years, I forgot my money and some kind stranger paid it for me. I was really touched and it brightened my night not to mention sticking with me even now. People can just be so wonderful. So now it's time to spread it through fandom!

It's Vividcon season YAY! Go here for details but the most important is that registration is at midnight Eastern US time, between Saturday February 28 and Sunday March 1. There's a poll there too to vote for the date. I so cannot wait.

I have a new show! I am massively in love with Beautiful People, a UK show about the life of Simon Doonan (Barneys Creative Director) who I fell for when watching Top Design. It's hilarious, full of joy and fashion and musical theatre and family love and craziness. I just adore it to death. And the older Simon is SO hot and has he and his boyfriend (in the prologue/epilogues) are so cute. Simon and Kylie are my absolute favorites, their friendship is so wonderful. Only six episodes but I savored every episode and love it completely. Definitely worth a try!

Speaking of British TV- Re: Doctor Who Casting Spoilers Under the Cut reaction just in case-also spoilers from the special )

Yay Philly winning! What an awesome football game. I always stood by my Donovan and I just *knew* they'd win this game. Love the Giants but they had their glory last year and now I just reeally want the Eagles to win the Superbowl, let alone be in it.

Does anyone know if the BSG webepisodes are worth watching? I haven't seen them yet and usually them up but I do want to know more about what happened in the finale last year so anything about that?

[livejournal.com profile] deathisyourart writes about Beecher/Kellar here and talks about some of the reasons why I love them SO MUCH OMG. B/K is one of those couples that never leave you and just rest in your soul until you think about them and spontaneously burst into love for them.

[livejournal.com profile] clayangel did this AMAZING comic of the story of how Ryan and Colin met here. As someone who loves fic but loves a visual even more, this is everything I've always wanted to see and makes me SO HAPPY and it's just utterly adorable and romantic. God, they are so meant to be *sighs happily* Everyone should check it out!

It makes going through my iTunes library and rating everything SO worth it when I can listen to my four star playlist and love everything in it. Mmmm music. I will say my biggest disappointment so far has been Kanye West's new album. I only liked one or two of the songs and I feel like he took all the *soul* out of the songs that I loved on his previous albums. I mean, nothing ever compared to The College Dropout which is still on my top five album list but there was always a few songs I LOVED and most songs I enjoyed. I was giving songs ones and twos! I almost never do that so it was sad. Couldn't get into Fleet Foxes either and I don't get why they're so loved but I care much more about my favorite rather than the best in music so I don't mind. I am however loving Bitter:Sweet's The Mating Game, Artic Monkey's Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, Amanda Jenssen's Killing My Darlings, Aimee Mann's Lost in Space, Flobot's Fight With Tools, The Kill's Midnight Boom, Matt Pond PA's Several Arrows Later and Last Light, OK Go's self-titled and Oh No and Spoon's Kill The Moonlight.

If Youtube takes down your youtube vids: Fight it!. Check the comments for more. Also, how to beat the audio finding system here.

TV's back! I loved the new Brothers & Sisters (x2), Gossip Girl, Scrubs, Ugly Betty (the best imo, loved it soo much) and Greys. Also caught up on SGA and saw the finale which was alright but the best part was that it and Vegas convinced me to read some John/Rodney fic and it was gooood. My favorite was A Place On The Corner which is the cutest thing ever and is just my Rodney perfectly and why I love him. I laughed so many times and it's all just a perfect love story. I still can't believe it's over...thank god for fandom.

So after the year from hell aka 2007, I knew this year had to be better and I was right. It was an okay, nothing special kind of year although some good stuff happened throughout. I name my years and this one I've decided on The Year of Transition and Tech Troubles since every tech thing seemed to break or get lost this year and I was just in the midst of change and figuring out and moving in the direction I want to go.

End of the Year Meme )

I'm hoping next year should be much better as I should be back in California and hopefully having a great time in college. I want to try to balance all the things I love in life and not neglect anything. I'm really looking forward to a year of Obama, spring break in Florida with my friends, Vividcon and just a new start for myself. Hope everyone has a great year and the TV gods are nice to us!

End of the Year Fandom Meme )

I seemed to have gained more fandoms than I expected. Pretty good year I'd say and I am especially happy with picking up Alias with my second favorite ship, Jack/Irina along with some excellent shows like Oz (and my other new favorite ship Beecher/Kellar!), Six Feet Under and Mad Men (Sal!). Hoping to get some classic great shows off my list next year like The West Wing, The X-Files and The Sopranos. Going to be a busy year so we'll see what I get done.

[Current Mood |thankful]

Happy Thanksgiving! I am going away for the next two days without internet so a few things before I go.

I am thankful for my shiny new 2 TB hard drive with SO MUCH SPACE OMG (and if you want one for only $230, try newegg) and all of the new music and DVD space for vidding available for me. I am taking music recs, rec me every artist you think I should listen to from the most obvious (The Beatles) to the least known.

I am thankful for Television for all the amazing stories, characters and relationships it gives me, for all that it makes me feel and think and love. I am thankful for The Office, for House, for The Wire, for Pushing Daisies, for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for Project Runway, for Queer as Folk, for The Rachel Maddow Show and for all the other shows I love so much. I am so thankful they exist or have existed and I will never believe there will not be a time when beautiful, amazing shows are created and someday will be allowed to be complete regardless of the business.

I am thankful for all modes of narrative from TV to movies to books to everything in between and I am thankful for all the arts that create so much beauty in the world. I am thankful for music and how fun it is to listen to, how much it inspires me and how it makes me feel so much emotion.

I am thankful for my new president, President Barack Obama and getting rid of the old horrible government and bringing in change I can believe in. To give me hope and inspire me to do more, to help build back this nation from the wreckage and to work for so many new beautiful things. God, I am SO thankful for this.

I am thankful for all the friends I've made and all the people I've met who have touched my life in a positive way. I am thankful for the good times, the laughter, the shared jokes, the interesting conversations and the close bonds I've formed. And I'm glad I still have the hope that I will find my chosen family some day.

I am thankful for all of fandom for helping me not feel so alone in being a fan and in giving me so much shared joy in the works we celebrate and the words and art we create from it. I am thankful for vidding where I finally found my creative expression and love so much all the amazing vids out there not to mention the smart conversations that talk about them. I am thankful for my fellow shippers and the joy in shipping, of loving Brian/Justin, Jack/Irina, House/Wilson and all my other favorites and having people out there who feel the same way and who share my squee and create art based around them. I'm thankful to be able to meet fandom people in real life and have them be just as awesome whether it be Vividcon or a local friend. I am thankful of all the things I've learned in fandom and all the ways fandom has helped mold me as a person as I grew up and helped influence me so positively.

So thank you Flist and I hope to be back with you soon!

Even Muggles like yourself should be celebrating, this happy, happy day! [Nov. 9th, 2008|03:36 pm]

That's how I (still) feel about Obama winning. Where Muggles are people who didn't vote for him or people from other countries. It still feels so glorious and wonderful each day waking up to know the Obama (President Obama!) is going to be our next president. It's just this happiness that washes over me each morning and randomly each day. I want to chase this feeling /Toby. Already he's working on making the goverment more democratic and participatory. Check out www.change.gov for more including "requiring his Cabinet officials to have periodic national broadband townhall meetings to discuss issues before their agencies", not signing "any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days", "improve the assessments used to track student progress to measure readiness for college and the workplace and improve student learning in a timely, individualized manner. Obama and Biden will also improve NCLB's accountability system so that we are supporting schools that need improvement, rather than punishing them", supporting "the principle of network neutrality" and trying to "pass the Fair Pay Act to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.". SO AMAZING.

Another good thing this election brought me? Rachel Maddow. Even when I was ignoring politics, I couldn't help but watch a few minutes of her show just to see how brilliant, funny and hot she is. I'm going to be involved in politics more now, watching a bit more news, reading more about what's happening, the government and the issues so this LJ may not be as politics free as it used to be but there still should still be a large amount of fandom with vidding and all the shows I watch. I just finally feel like we can bring about real change and I want to be a part of it, to do my part in making this country better.

Now about Prop 8. I'm trying to leave aside my disappointment, sadness and anger and instead channel that into actually doing something about it. On the good side, Prop 8 only applies to future marriages and there are going to be court challenges to it. I can only see that as good because it is not fair at all for the majority to take away the rights of a minority. I'm all for propositions and direct democracy but not in cases like that. Also I hope we can add a proposition to reverse Prop 8. I do think that it is horrible that people are blaming African Americans for passing this as it's everyone who voted yes for the Prop that's caused this to happen. Lashing out like that is wrong and doesn't accomplish anything. The same thing goes for acting like chickens are getting more rights. Um NO. Animal rights has nothing to do with Prop 8 and giving farm animals basic decent treatment is a good thing that should not be bashed.

I am heartened by all the anti-Proposition 8 protests happening in California although I wish I could be there to join them. But now I can and you can too! Join the Impact is organizing a nationwide protest against Prop 8 and the other measures that take away equality and civil rights next Saturday, November 15th, 1:30 - 4:30 (Eastern/10:30 am PT). I urge everyone to check out the website and find the closest location to you for the protest taking place at City Hall or another place as mentioned. I am organizing the Syracuse protest here because I really want to do something against this proposition and I urge anyone who is in a city without a organizer or that's not represented to try to help start one. So that's what I'm going to be working on this week.

In vidding news, [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro put together a vidding documentary for MIT to show to middle and high schoolers. It's here and there's a bunch of vidders there talking about vidding. I'm in it as well, the second person with the LA shirt in the What is vidding? video. I saw it at Vividcon and I was so happy to see how it turned out. Everyone should go check it out and see how awesome it is! Also if you're looking for AMAZING vid meta, check out [livejournal.com profile] tishaturk for some wonderfully interesting thoughts about vidding and narrative, two of my very favorite things.

I hate the new LJ profile page. Why do they change the things that aren't broken?! At the very least they should give us an option to opt out of it. Argh.

Other good things: new Sex and the City movie next summer! Let's hope they don't give a BS reason for splitting Carrie/Big up this time and give us lots of time with all four of the gang. Also can't wait to see Quantum of Solace, mostly for the Daniel Craig hotness. Speaking of movies, I got four movies including Harry Potter 5, American Gangster and Sex and the City for only $20 dollars the other day. And I'm starting on getting one of my friends to watch The Wire and she likes it so far so I'm really happy about that. Still working on catching up on shows, did Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, Entourage and working on Friday Night Lights which is amazing as usual. Hopefully I'll have some thoughts about them in a later post.

[Current Music |"Wishing Stone" by the Howling Belles]

Let's talk about flashbacks. I'm always of two minds when it comes to doing a earlier past one, say when a fourtysomething character is shown in their early twenties. Do you use the original actor with makeup and the like or do you get a younger actor? Where's the line? (Where's the line, Jan? -Do you need to see the video again, Michael?) On the one hand, I love seeing the original actor as I usually feel they best truly represent and get the character and I don't want them to lose their essential characterness/chemistry with other people but it can be distracting, unrealistic and pull you out of the show if it's hard to buy someone as actually younger and not in costume.

Why I was thinking about this was considering whether if Lena Olin from Alias wasn't available as Irina, would I want flashbacks of her and Jack (and Sydney) with different people? I mean, obviously I'd take that over no flashbacks at all (*curses show* ILU though) but if she was available, what would I choose? Now Lena (and Victor) for that mattter do look pretty different when they were younger but still...what about the chemistry? It'd be so hard for me to give that up. Same goes for House and Wilson and seeing their first meeting/past selves, it'd be hard to lose how they work so well with each other but Hugh looks pretty different younger and a different actor would probably be disconcerting and maybe even more so for RSL. So, a poll, one non fandom specific and the other for those two fandoms.

[Poll #1283413]

Still without a computer, still behind on shows (50+ the last I counted, ouch.) and still doing well in school (although reading 8.5 straight hours of Plato is NOT recommended). Loved House last night although mostly the House/Wilson and OT3 parts, will talk about it later. Excited about going to Florida (Orlando/Miami) with my WL friends in April along with my NYC New Year's Eve trip (I so wish I had more money). Which speaking of, I've got to go to work, will finish catching up later.

[Current Mood |blah]

I'm feeling so bummed tonight.

Ruminations about my life and college )

Didn't like House tonight. One guess why. Promo > Episode. The thing that disappoints me about House is it's never going to be the show I want it to be. I hate the episodic procedural plots sooooooo much and the ducklings are all boring and I don't like them besides Kutner who is very cute. If it was up to me, it'd just be the issues and craziness of House, Wilson and Cuddy's life with minimal medicine stuff when relevant. Also House and Wilson would be together and kissing a lot but hey. And as much as House is my favorite and I always enjoy his hilarity, Wilson is just pure love. I am kind of in love with his voice. And RSL was oh so cute in that interview with Lisa. Saw a little bit of Clueless and Safe the other day and OMG I love House/Wilson and miss them so much. Also saw Failure to Communicate tonight and awww I love House/Stacy too. They're totally doomed but it makes it easier to ship as I can just adore their cuteness and that beautiful hotel scene. I can't help loving the shared history type couples with that past you can never go back to but that connection remains so you can't help but be drawn together.

Back in July in Montreal, I had this wonderful dream where House and Wilson were sitting against a wall (ever notice that Wilson always sits to the right of House/left to our eyes?) and Wilson was all unsure of their relationship and vulnerable and such (post S4) and House leans over and kisses him to try to reassure him with the words he can't say. It was perfect. I blame it for making me desperate to see them kiss. But I was thinking whether it'd ever be possible for me to recreate that dream with vidding. Like in the future can we get actors to be in different positions when they kiss or however you'd do it. Sounds impossible but who knows? And then I had this dream recently with House kissing Wilson on the cheek and it was all so sweet.

I'm dropping Fringe which completely bores me and True Blood where I don't like the characters and relationships because I can't get myself to care to watch them. Maybe I'll catch up with reruns later. I am watching Greek which is enjoyable especially with the great gay storyline and Freaks and Geeks which is not my kind of humor (Judd and me don't mix) but I love Lindsey and James Franco and Jason Segall are incredibly hot, plus cute geeks so I'm enjoying it. In the last week, one person on my list was converted to The Wire and another to Firefly so I'm very happy there :) I kind of want to change my mood theme to an Irina one but it's been so long having this one that I'm not sure I want to change, I just miss seeing it on my Flist. I probably will change back but maybe I will when I have the time to mess with it.

Still have no money, probably won't get hard drive for another month. I have way too many wants for the amount of money I'm making which is one big reason for college then why am I having such problems motivating myself to do well in it? Argh. And I reaaaally miss LA. First it's getting cold here and I hate it more than words can say and then I miss out on Office writers, Arrested Development events and cons in general. Wish I could go to Dallas too so I could see Doris Egan do an informal commentary on House vs. God, still my favorite episode. On the bright side, I now possess the Pushing Daisies DVDs and they are so pretty. Pie-lette is just as perfect as I remembered. I am forever charmed by that show. On my list of favorite all-time shows, PD wins over fifth place which hopefully will continue into TOMORROW, yay!

I love looking at TV ratings cause I love TV too much but if you're interested in how your shows are doing, check out TV By The Numbers. The best thing is the Renew/Cancel Index which predicts which shows will be cancelled or might be by looking at their 18-49 demographic ratings which need to be at 92% of the network's average to have a good chance at surviving. So far Til Death, Old Christine, Lipstick Jungle, Knight Rider, T:TSCC (why is this show not doing better numbers :(), Gary Unmarried, My Name is Earl, Privelled, Prison Break, The Unit, Cold Case and Ugly Betty (noooo) are in danger in order of severity. Thankfully The Office, House, Heroes, Grey's, HIMYM, Gossip Girl, Brothers & Sisters and Supernatural all seem pretty safe. I find it all so fascinating.

[Current Music |The Emmys]
[Current Mood |okay]

On the Emmys: Yes, I'm watching. Yes, I still think they're total bullshit. Ignore The Wire on it's FINAL season? Stupid ignorant sluts. So, sure Mad Men will almost certainly win and it's an amazing show but it did not win FAIR. And it does not deserve to win over The Wire. So whathefuckever. I'm just watching to see all my favorite actors and writers and I'll probably be doing other stuff while it's on. It would be very, very nice if Steve would win but I won't be surprised to see him and The Office get robbed again.

On politics: Can someone PLEASE make the election be over? I thought the primaries were bad but this is worse. I hate McCain and Palin (oh god, the CRAZY) and all I want is Obama to win so I can have a little hope in this country and not want to kill myself watching Brothers and Sisters (TV: the only place I can't avoid politics) or actually getting a chance to watch The West Wing. I actually had to leave my History of Women class and plug my ears during half of it because they wouldn't shut up about politics. It fills me with so much rage that I've had to completely unplug from the election for my own sanity and peace of mind. I feel like this country is so going to hell no matter how much I want to believe that the future slowly gets better. The only thing helping me is remembering that no matter what happens, I'll still have the bastion of happiness of fandom not to mention TV, LA and most importantly, friends. This quote from QaF helps too: "So the "thumpa thumpa" continues. It always will. No matter what happens. No matter who's president. As our lady of Disco, the divine Miss Gloria Gaynor has always sung to us: We will survive."

Premiere week is upon us! Almost all my shows will be back during this week. I am still working on catching up on TV after marathoning Sex and the City but I am having a great time watching all the episodes I stored up. Also, found a new show! So this show called Lost in Austen looked fascinating so I gave it a try and loved it! Basically a girl who loves Jane Austen/Pride and Prejudice is transported to that world. Great concept and I adored the Pilot. The main character is very cute and I can't help but love a girl who escapes into books. She reminds me a lot of Gwyn physically but thankfully I like her lots better. Definitely recommend the show to everyone! I actually have never finished Pride and Prejudice, I've read 3/4ths of it twice (better than LotR, I've read the first few chapters like five times) so I'm hoping this will give me more motivation to finally get it finished. In my copious spare time, ha. I am so behind on everything.

On the school front, I like most of my classes so that's good. As expected my two Philosophy classes are my favorites. Sooo fascinating. Ancient Philosopy is incredibly interesting, I love thinking about all that kind of stuff and logic is just so useful and cool to understand. That one I can definitely see being useful with contructing arguments for vids and such. Also plus about my Ancient Philosophy class, the professor is REALLY hot. Like, Mohinder levels hot. Which is why I'm calling him Mohinder especially since the class is on Monday night and I have to speed home to have a chance at watching Heroes. So far they are going well but not too much work so far, thank god.

Loved House last week! I have more thoughts on it but for now, awwww House and Wilson. Make up and make out guys! This is my slogan for this season (really any season). And I even have a pretty House and Wilson kissing wallpaper that makes me happy everytime I look at it. Also, The Office premiering this Thursday! I'm so excited for my favoritest show to be back :D

[Current Music |"The Wanderer" by Marc Broussard]

I'm so happy the fall TV season is finally starting! With the premiere of Gossip Girls and Prison Break yesterday, it's finally begun. I can hardly believe it's September already. I'm still working on catching up with Prison Break so Gossip Girl is my first show of the night. In an effort to not procrastinate and wait to write things until they're perfect thereby never getting to writing them at all, I'm going to try to start posting my first reactions to all the TV I'm watching with some shows getting longer thoughts later or at first. So to begin it, my fun, pretty, melodramatic soap opera is back:

Spoilers for Gossip Girls 201 )

At the moment I'm most excited for House because House/Wilson OMG. Sant Doris Egan proved once again why she is our saint with this AMAZING interview. Mild spoilers for the season but worth it for me. I seriously could not be more excited about this season. Everytime I think, how can it get any more slashier, more canon? And then it does! I mean, look: "I feel like House and Wilson, they deserve mythology. They're larger-than-life characters. YES YES YES. ILU Doris. And when I read that I was like, House and Wilson, they're the stuff of legends. And THEN I remember that Doris wrote two great episodes of Smallville, Hourglass and Hug and in the latter, that's what Lex says to Clark. Clearly, she's awesome. Spoilers for this season from the article )

Funny enough, I just got into Dark Angel and I'm loving it. It's so cool that Doris was a writer on it! The show is definitely appealing to me with kickass Max and the whole character backstory and the world and I LOVE the plotline. Lots of intrigue, great action and suspense. I wish we could get rid of the loser dude but I love her friends. Not into the Logan/Max thing which feels like they're shoving down our throats which I hate but as friends, they're nice and Logan is very hot. Can't wait til Alec shows up though. I'm only on 105 but I can't wait to watch as much as I can! Wish I had the time to marathon it completely. I love that feeling though between this and Slings and Arrows (SO MUCH LOVE), it reminds me why I love TV. But I will say between Dark Angel, the sickening events in Minnesota and a bad experience with a police officer (no ticket though thank god), I'm feeling very anti-police. Way too much power and it freaks me out. On the new TV front, I'm starting to watch Bones and I enjoyed the pilot so at least there's that. Not sure if I'll ship Brennan/Booth but that one wall scene was HOT. I am easy with walls.

I went to the Great NY State Fair for the first time yesterday since I was a kid (which I don't remember) and it was fun! I rode the roller coaster there and the ferris wheel, tried to climb this rock climbing wall (it was HARD), saw a seal lion show which was super cute, petted and saw goats, ponies, llamas (VVC mascot love!), sheep, pigs, chickens and the cutest rabbits ever, saw some fireworks and walked around and saw everything. It was great to finally see everything. At the sea lion show there was the cutest moment when the trainer through a ring for them to catch too far and the other sea lion picked it up and put it on the other sea lion. Awww.

So tomorrow I start college again. I'm taking four classes at the local community college to make sure I'm ready for classes again before I go back to Chapman (plus it's cheaper). I'm really nervous and I know I need to do well after I crashed a nd burned a year ago during spring semester. I'm taking:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9-10 Logic, 10-11 History of American Women (although I may change this if I can find something I like better)
Monday: 6-9 PM History of Ancient Philosophy
Thursday: 6-8:45 PM (can make it back home in time for The Office!) Intro to Microeconomics

I'm much more motivated to do the work and study for them after my time off in the last year so hopefully that will help. Mostly I'm just scared of failing though *worries* I just want to get back to trying to do well in school like I did back in say, seventh grade.

So on Sunday I'm going to NYC to go see the US Open final but I'm going to leave on Saturday so I can do some sightseeing and such (I miss the city!). Does anyone have any recommendations of things to do? I've already seen the Empire State building, Statue of Liberty, Chinatown, Little Italy, Rockerfeller Center, Times Square and probably some other famous attraction I'm forgetting but it was only one week so I probably missed out on a lot. Also, does anyone who lives in the NYC area want to hang out and either come with me or just watch TV/vids? I miss being with other fans! And if anyone has an extra bed or floor space that I could crash on Saturday night, I'd really appreciate it.

I totally forgot about The Office S4 DVD coming out today *facepalm* I've just had a lot on my mind and I didn't see any reminders about it so I totally forgot. Hopefully Target will still have the DVDs with the extra footage on them because I really, really want one.

Okay, time for some 90120! New TV YAY *happiness*

I love, love, love Slings & Arrows! I am in the midst of complete love must watch every episode right now OMG and it is glorious. Just finished Season One which was awesome. I got pimped into the show at Vividcon wherein I learned that not only was it smart, all about Shakespeare and stars pretty Paul Gross, it's FUNNY. What I'm really loving about it is it explores what I find most fascinating about acting in theater/tv/film is how actors get themselves into a character and the whole creative process of it. So cool. And the OT3 is awesome and Geoffrey and Ellen are so, so cute and I just love everyone except Holly. Which are her and Richard kind of like Macbeth and his wife? Wish my Shakespeare knowledge was better so I could get everything. Beautiful, wonderful end to the season though. I always forget that wonderful feeling of *needing* to marathon every episode of a show and this one is hitting me exactly in that place. Seriously if you like smart, funny shows about Shakespeare, definitely check this show out!

Then SGA and Flashpoint had to go and break me with their latest episodes.

Spoilers for Stargate Atlantis: The Shrine )

Everytime I think I'm okay with SGA's cancellation, they pull something like this and make me love the show SO MUCH. Definitely in my top three episodes, Tao of Rodney, The Shrine, McKay and Mrs. Miller (notice a pattern?) although I have to watch Tao again to get the exact order. You just can't replace these characters and relationships. I'll watch Stargate Universe because I'm curious but really unless they get better writers/create awesome characters (with good actors), I'll doubt it'll be any good. Stupid networks and writers.

And then Flashpoint with the BROTHERS and the Supernatural and Due South references! I don't usually get into one shot characters but DAMN THEM I'm so hooked and I want moremoremore.

Spoilers for Flashpoint 107 )

"Slash is what happens when you take away the glass." Yes, that! (thank you Henry, Jenkins) God, I'm easy. You'd think I'd learn my lesson after Climbing Up the Walls, [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's AMAZING video that was my very favorite vid of Vividcon and that everyone should go running to check out right now (Supernatural, Firefly, Heroes). It blows my time every time I watch it. There isn't enough words for my love. How much do I love dark, messed up relationships? A LOT. More vid recs and VVC report to come but I have to give a special mention to this.

And yay to a second series of Flashpoint! I'm currently dying for the new season to start especially The Office, Pushing Daisies, House, How I Met Your Mother and Heroes. I miss the feeling of having a ton of beloved shows to watch and getting squeeful every week. Can't wait!

TV, the Olympics and VIVIDCON (4 more days!) [Aug. 10th, 2008|12:13 am]

[Current Music |"Just Dance" by Lady GaGa]

OMG you guys! [livejournal.com profile] sisabet just made an Arrested Development vid!!! It's about George Michael and it's incredibly cute and hilariously funny (show, how are you so brilliant?) and I adore it to pieces. Go watch now!

Remember how I said I wasn't going to spoil myself for House? Well I resisted until a few days ago when the promos came out and I just couldn't not look (plus video spoilers aren't as bad as text) And thank god I did because OMG can House and Wilson get any slashier? I swear, I was speechless and then sent into the land of flailing squee. I just...wow. Don't ever change, show! (SO CANON) Spoilers for the promos, I can't not talk about them )

So Flist, how did I not hear that Nathan Fillion is going to star in a new show, The Castle about a horror writer that consults with the NYPD that's probably going to be picked up by ABC midseason? And that there's also a good chance that Rob Thomas's show, Good Behavior about a family of criminals led by a matriarch will be picked up then as well. So awesome! ABC keeps getting good points with me. Also I updated my TV schedule with premiere dates and apparently I'm watching 27 shows this year not counting the 10 or so new shows I'm checking out. Um, I'm crazy? Thank god I like it that way. And I'm so behind but apparently J.K Rowling is going to do a collection of short stories including something with Dumbledore/Grindelwald OMG YAY! I definitely want to learn more about my one remaining HP ship.

So I was thinking about how I'm just not very interested in the sports at the Olympics but then someone mentioned gymnastics and I was like YES THAT. That's what I want to watch! I love gymnastics, used to do it as a kid but got frustrated that I had to do floor and sometimes vault when I really just wanted to do bars and beam all day. I still would like to take it up again someday as I reeally liked doing the uneven bars. Apart from that and a little tennis, I'm mostly just going to be checking out random sports once and awhile. I'm rooting for USA of course but I'm always up for cheering for any countries and players who do a great job and make it fun to watch. And of course, I'll cheer more for teams from people who are on my Flist. So far the countries I've got are Canada, the UK, Australia, Belgium, Germany, France, New Zealand, Sweden, Spain...anyone on my Flist from somewhere else? I'm sure I'm forgetting some because I suck at thinking of things at the top of my head.

I watched a little of the So You Think You Can Dance finale and it was fun. I finally got to see the great Will who was wonderful. Mostly though I lamented the lack of m/m dances. I wondered if there ever was any until conveniently someone on my Flist answered my question with no unless you count the fight dances or whatnot. Cmon, there's gotta be another Prom scene out there someday! I do enjoy shows like American Idol and the dancing shows because I do love singing and dance but there's just not enough of a creative competition element like Project Runway. Plus I hate the America voting aspect because ultimately it usually ends up like political elections where I am left cursing half the population for having the bad sense to choose someone I don't like. Thank god the stakes are much lower. I'd rather just get mad at a few judges who at least are more qualified to judge than me.

Have I mentioned that my last external hard drive stopped working on my laptop? Works on other computers, just not mine. Argh. And it has all my Queer as Folk episodes on it! Not only can I not vid it but now when I'm in the mood for my B/J and pretty gay boy loving, I can't even watch it. Why is life so unfair? And to continue with the tech curse, three pairs of headphones (two cheap, one expensive), stopped working. The first two in a span of two days. It's ridiculous really.

So I went to Ithaca this weekend to visit [livejournal.com profile] lianri and did some shopping and found some great things! I'm excited. Project Runway has also influenced me way too much and I kept finding clothes that reminded me of Christian. I found one shirt that is *perfect* for Vividcon...except I won't be able to wear it til next year. Damn it. I love it LOTS though.

Speaking of Vividcon, only 4 more days! Eeeee. I'm caught up with Psych so now I only have to finish Smallville season 7 in four days. Totally doable, at least for me. I am so glad VVC is this weekend because the one thing that I want to go to second most in all the world, training with Jillian Michaels (and hanging out!) with a bunch of people from her site is that very same weekend. On the one hand, it sucks that it's at the same time but since there's no way I could afford it anyway, at least I won't spend a weekend at home being jealous. I'll be at Vividcon having an amazing time! In the end, VVC rules all.

One more day until Mad Men! Yes, I have been counting down days every single day this week. I am so easy sometimes.

Made in LA ie Lots of Little Things Part 2 [Jun. 12th, 2008|12:26 am]

[Current Mood |accomplished]
[Current Music |"Not With You" by Tegan and Sara]

I reeeeally miss LA. Just saying if it's not obvious. It's been annoyingly humid here and although I prefer it over cold, nothing beats the dry heat of LA. So much better to be hot there and with the dry heat, it feels good and totally bearable even in the 90's. At least for me. I did go swimming the other day which I haven't done since...last January maybe? In LA of course. I did unexpectedly meet some friends there which was nice.

Also going to Montreal with [livejournal.com profile] clayangel in July to see some Ryan and Greg shows and I can't wait! Never been there before so it'll be good to expand my Canadian horizons.

Okay, now TV. Kind of behind on TV watching with two episodes of Doctor Who to watch and one BSG but both shows are kind of meh to me now so ehh whatever. Hopefully will do them tomorrow though. Not much of a Stephen Moffet lover as it always seems like there is too much random other characters and not enough character love of the ones I do love not to mention plots that I'm not very interested in (The Doctor Dances two parter was okay, plus JACK). So I'm not really that happy about the news he's running the show after RTD but I'm always willing to give him a chance so we'll see what happens. I still have lots of shows to catch up on from Farscape and The X-Files (the odds of finishing before VVC are now way down) to Prison Break and Smallville to Psych, Burn Notice and Mad Men. So little time, so much TV...

John Barrowman pictures of hotness. I am so, so disappointed that there's only going to be 5 episodes of Torchwood next year. I need my Jack fix! Plus, I need Jack and Ianto boykissing...*pouts*

Speaking of, does anyone know the best place to watch the gay parts of that German soap opera? I must see it! I checked out Luke and Noah and they were very cute but the soap opera stuff was too much for me at the time...I may see all of it later though. I am interested in Forbidden Love though.

BEST COMMERCIAL EVER: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGDFJPljXNw I just...god, it made me cry. As a huge flying fan, it made me want to fly again so badly and I strongly believe someday I will even if it's not the real thing. It's so cute and very, very touching.

If you've ever wanted to save a link for a later or save a post til say after you've seen a show or movie and do it quickly, try the Read It Later add on for Firefox (if you're still using Explorer...you should switch). All you have to do is right click a link or press a button you can add onto the top of your browser and you have it saved for later reading. It's helped me a lot with not forgetting certain posts and links when I don't have the time to read them or comment. I'm still kind of lazy sometimes and am gradually getting better at it.

I have a ticket to the tennis US Open finals! *squee* It'll be my first time going or ever seeing a match live so I really can't wait. Plus I am pretty sure that Federer is going to make it to the finals and tie Pete Sampras's record so I want to see history in the making. I would totally stalk him as I reeeally want to meet him but I'm just going to go for a day to save money so it's not worth the effort. I'm sure I'll meet him someday. The loss at the French Open broke my heart, I was really invested this time and it's always devastating when he can't quite pull it off. Oh underdogs, you kill me.

So I started watching The Biggest Loser on a whim a few days ago...and somehow developed a serious crush on the trainer, Jillian Michaels. I definitely have a type for tough, awesome, ass kicking woman especially dark haired women. The thing is while I think a lot of women are very pretty, I'm usually not very attracted except for a few and personality plays a big part in that. The short list (besides Jillian) is Lena Olin, Alexandra Hedison, Kate Moennig, Karina Lombard and Lena Headey (Katee/Starbuck in the miniseries is very close). But sometimes the stars align and they definitely do in this case. My love for her has grown exponentially while watching Season 5 (how much do I hate the game? FUCK THE GAME) and she pulls off the HARDCORE, yelling (and I love that she swears so great) trainer like no other and I loooove it and eat it up. She's got me so invested in her winning that I cheer ecstatically at the victories and cry at the losses (oh god one scene in S5 was SO heartbreaking it HURT...oh the woobieness). I love a good Jillian beating and nothing beats Jillian HUGS (they make me so happy!). She's so inspiring to me and a great role model which works for me so much as having people to look up to motivates me a lot. Team Jillian for LIFE. (Trainer love! ie where Jillian and Bob are cuteness)

Plus I love that she loves martial arts as one of my dreams is to be able to kick ass like all my girl heroes (and guys too) that I love from both my Sydneys (first Walker Texas Ranger, then Alias) to Buffy and all the other great warrior women (Zoe love!). I will definitely be making that happen at some point. If there's one thing I love about this season it was the awesome display of GIRL POWER. Just so amazing to be the underdogs and yet pull off some awesome, awesome wins. Because women CAN do anything and accomplish their dreams and do the impossible. Fucking A.

Also in one episode there was TIM GUNN. I literally screamed in the middle of the night, I was so excited. Talk about dream crossovers actually happening. There has not been enough Tim Gunn in my life lately. And I hope this puts the zaftig debacle to bed (TWSS...sorry force of habit). Also, July 16th is the Project Runway premiere, yay! Still the best reality show ever.

Picture of Jillian under the cut in the shirt I want SO MUCH IT HURTS (see subject line)  )

Never done this meme so I'm trying it: You give me three names in a fandom I know, I tell you whom I'd toss off a cliff, whom I'd shag, and whom I'd marry. Then (if you like) I give you three names, and so it goes.

[Current Mood |cheerful]

So I may have spent most of Memorial Day weekend watching all of Brothers & Sisters. But it was so worth it! I enjoyed it greatly and it was so nice to get addicted to a show again for the first time since Oz. I was really annoyed the other day seeing someone describe TV as "visual crack" but you know what? I love my visual crack. The addictive quality is the best part! So I started watching mostly for the gay storylines with low expectations but it turned out to be pretty good. I love the family banter among all the family with all the funny lines and making fun of each other in a affectionate way. My two favorite characters turned out to be Kevin (I am nothing if obvious) and Sarah who I recommend for everyone on my Flist who loves strong, business women who are awesome. Also Sally Field is wonderful as Nora and it's so great seeing Ron Rifkin back on my screen! Odd at first as I kept expecting a Rambaldi reference or him to have some kind of mastermind plan or being weirded out that he has slightly similar relationship to his former psyriatrist on Alias. I wonder if I don't like Balthazar Getty or he just has a habit of picking kind of wooden characters because he's the weakest cast member for me here. The Everwood cast is fun to see here too as well (damn you, Berlanti! hee) and it cracks me up that Robert McAllister is like Bobby from Jack and Bobby. Rob Lowe is pretty but I HATE the politics storyline on the show. There was a great quote that described me from the show, I don't like the fight [of politics], I like supporting the cause. But the family and relationship stuff is great.

It's just so nice to see a gay character (Matthew Rhys is soooo cute as is his accent) get the same amount of time as straight ones in his relationships. There is plenty of boykissing on this show :D It SOOTHES MY SOUL. It really does. I never get enough of it. And Scotty is adorable especially when he smiles and kind of closes his eyes *melts* I'm so easy. It's amazing what having one gay couple can help break up the heteronormality (see also Grey's Anatomy).

Anyways, spoilers: Spoilers for S1-2 of Brothers and Sisters )

I think loving this show is my cue to watch Six Feet Under which while it has a different tone and better overall writing, is all about a family with a family business, a gay character (Michael C. Hall!) with boykissing and Rachel Griffiths. So add that to my long TV watching list. Which speaking of, here's a TV meme about the past TV season:

TV 07-08 Season Meme )

I've been sick with a cold/headache all weekend as well which was annoying but thankfully it's mostly gone. I've been feeling pretty optimistic about my life lately which is always good. This summer I really want to do a lot of things I haven't done before. For one, I want to really explore the city and go out and do stuff which I've never really experienced or seen. Plus I want to visit some places from my childhood that I never really got to say goodbye to. I just never went out a lot in high school and I'd like to really do that. Also I'm planning on going on seeing the US Open finals if I can because I reeeally want to see Federer play (my favorite tennis player) and hopefully tie or beat Pete Sampras's (my previous favorite). I saw them play together a few months ago (on TV) and it was just amazing. So that will be a fun NYC trip.

I've been feeling a lot more romantic for awhile now, Jack/Irina kind of inspired me back in January and it hasn't really gone away so who knows, maybe I'll find someone. It feels like I'm over my two year kind of thing (don't ask) and even though who I'm looking for is rare, you never know. It'd just be nice to actually experience romance versus live vicariously through my favorite TV character although that's always a nice alternative for my hopeless romantic self.

I'm been in kind of a vidding funk in typical horrible timing but I'm working on my 5 facts vid meme I got tagged for and it's just so much fun! It's definitely helping so that's good. Now that TV season is over, hopefully I'll have more time for vidding stuff.

I've been experiencing an Office renaissance with all my love for the show coming back full force as I rewatch the show. It's reminding me why this show is my favorite and why I want to obsess about it so much. I'm still going to be doing my rewatch with clip notes/posts after Vividcon season is over. But for now fun rewatching is always great. It's funny, in the past couple weeks, I've had people on my Flist falling for The Office, Firefly and The Wire and it just makes me SO HAPPY to see such great reactions to them and reminds me of the first time I fell in love with all of them. It really is an amazing feeling and one I wish I could repeat sometime. And that is why I watch so much TV, in that never ending hope that I'll find another show that makes me feel that way and so full of love.

Wherein I am a bad Wire fan and watch a lot of TV [May. 16th, 2008|09:03 pm]

[Current Mood |worn out]
[Current Music |"Dress Up in You" by Belle and Sebastian]

So I just found out that Beadie from The Wire was Holly in last night's Office! I can't believe I didn't recognize her. I knew she looked familiar but couldn't place her. I almost would expect Michael to be like, "hey, aren't you from The Wire?" He does watch it! It makes sense though that they'd want to hire The Wire actors. Maybe there will be more in the future? *hopes*

So Upfronts week is officially over and all the major TV networks have revealed their fall schedules. Go here for grids for the fall 2008 TV season. There's a decent number of new shows coming than what I was expecting although lower than normal but that also means that I suffered no canceled show casualties *celebrates* So I combed the lists to find new shows I'm interested in checking out. Again when I look for new shows this is why I'm watching them: original concept and/or sounds interesting, writers and actors I can trust/like seeing, serial or at least has a serial element, for comedies: smart humor and/or single camera, and fannish interest (hard to parse right now). If I hear lots of great reviews, critically or fannishly, I may give the show a try/another try so I'm always open to more. I will say the nice thing about TV that keeps me from becoming completely overwhelmed is unlike movies, music or books, there's not a a bajillion coming out each year. At least there's a manageable number to sort through even if the high cost does make it hard to get TV shows on the air. My current perspective is it's better to keep on track of the new shows while slowly working my way through the old as I reverse my way back through the history of TV. Here are some new shows and why I'm checking them out:

Dollhouse because it's JOSS WHEDON and I'll follow him to the end of the earth. Plus Eliza Dushku and Helo from BSG with an interesting premise. Must watch new show of the year. My Own Worst Enemy because the concept sounds interesting with the alter ego spy aspect and fighting yourself. 90120 because it's in Beverly Hills (SoCal love!), Michael from The Wire is in it, Jessica Walters from Arrested Development is in it, Rob Thomas is executive producer (although I hear he stepped down-probably a good idea) and the original is a guilty pleasure I've seen once in awhile. Fringe because it's got J.J who at least knows how to handle a concept in the beginning and sounds intriguing with a larger serial plotline as well as having Lance Reddick from The Wire (and Miguel from Oz!). Stylista because it's like The Devil Wears Prada and Ugly Betty and I love both even if I didn't like Anne Slowely much on Project Runway. The Office spin off because it's The Office, duh. Life on Mars because I loved the UK one and even though I hate the Sam casting and it doesn't look that great, it's worth a chance. The Listener because reading peoples' minds fascinates me. Crusoe because it's an interesting idea, based on a classic book and reminds me of why I originally liked Lost S1 with the desert island premise. The Ex List because Diane Ruggiereo is the co-executive producer and I loved her episodes on Veronica Mars and I'm always interested in relationships and compatibility. Flashpoint because it's got Enrico (Keith from Veronica Mars!) and Hugh Dillion (who I haven't seen yet but I know will be good) and sounds fun. Sit Down Shut Up because it's co run by Mitchell Hurwtiz, another writer who I'd follow anywhere as well as voices of Jason Batemen and Will Arnett (reunion much?). Merlin and Kings sound unique among the TV out there right now and serial as well which means I'm willing to take a chance on them. Swingtown because historical dramas that have a focus on change and experimentation is always interesting to me. The Last Templar (mini-series) because of VICTOR GARBER and a cool four horsemen story. Caprica because I love BSG and am interested in seeing the characters previous lives. Cupid because I love the original and enjoyed the banter and romance plots no matter the actors. The Stranded because I find the concept EXTREMELY interesting.

TV Schedule For Next Season (subject to change) )

Oh and yes, I've decided that I definitely want to work in the TV industry in some capacity. In the interest of following my passion and all that.

The Shows I Watch [May. 6th, 2008|06:47 pm]

[Current Music |"Yesterday" by The Beatles]

Based on that essay that started it all, the what shows are you watching meme. I have way too many shows for this meme, but oh well (it took me forever though!). All of my shows behind the cut, find the ones you watch/are interested in.

Shows I Currently Watch )

Shows I Used To Watch (and sometimes still do) )

Doing this just reminds me how much I love TV and all my characters and ships and thank god for all of them proving so much joy in my life along with the fandoms that develop from them. I love TV! At the same time though, I've been feeling an overload because I have so many amazing so many great shows and ships I'm loving right now. I've been getting into House fandom, specifically House/Wilson because when I first got into the show I was deep into Office obsession territory and I didn't give my favorite slash ship the attention they deserve. So if I recently friended you, that's probably why. And I'm LOVING this season and all the slash so that's inspiring me a lot in reading fic, watching vids, watching the best episodes, listening to podfic and reading discussions about them. At the same time, I still am reading some Beecher/Keller fanfic, loving Brian/Justin fandom sparking my love for them, squeeing over Barney/Robin, watching Ryan/Colin clips on youtube and reading favorite fics and every time someone mentions Jack/Irina (or I see a picture), my heart squees and I get very tempted to start obsessing about them again. There's just so much great ships and shows out there.

On a different note, I haven't watched American Idol for years (I watched an episode of the Carrie Underwood and Bo season a long time ago) but I wanted to check out the Beatles episode(s) because I love their music and it was pretty entertaining. It hasn't changed much, I still dislike Ryan Seacrest (sorry [livejournal.com profile] dollsome), I still love Simon (I can see why House worked as a great follower to the show) and he's very slashy with Ryan, and the singers are all decently talented and mildly entertaining. The David A kid is way, way too cute. Ultimately I stopped watching and will continue to because it feels like a waste of time in a popularity contest whereas I love creative reality TV with unique challenges each week. On the other hand, it made me watch Scooby Road again and OMG I love that vid so much. My third favorite vid ever and the end gets me every time.

Lots of TV thoughts to come!

[Current Music |"Ordinary" by Paula Cole]
[Current Mood |irritated]

Happy Office Day everyone! I am reeeally looking forward to tonight's episode as it sounds really, really good. And the promo was absolutely delightful. Michael/Ryan, yay! Plus ALL my shows are coming back for the best night on TV. Ugly Betty, Grey's and Supernatural are all back making me very, very happy along with The Office, Scrubs and 30 Rock. I am annoyed at the Scrubs and 30 Rock shift because it messes up my perfect comedy night of Ugly Betty, The Office and Scrubs that all fit so well with being all about the character love. But whatever, downloading solves all problems. Now all I need is for House to come back and all my favorite shows will be back (not counting the ones returning in the fall).

Lost and me are broken up now. I'm going to marathon the show once it's over but I barely get any pleasure from it anymore and feel like a puppet being dragged in crazy directions. I just don't see the brilliance no matter what people say. Hating Jack and most of the characters is probably the biggest reason. It's going to stop being abusive boyfriend now.

Random TV snippets: Absolutely loved How I Met Your Mother (which reminded me why I ship and watch TV with the euphoria) and The Office last week but don't really have much to say about them right now. Enjoyed the latest Doctor Who eps but the episodic nature of it bores me to death. Still miss Martha. OMG NEXT WEEK though. Caught up on Gossip Girl and am enjoying Chuck/Blair, Chuck/Nate and the cuteness of Eric. Also finished watching Eli Stone and Victor Garber continues to make me squee along with the yummy slashiness that is Eli/Jordan. I LOVE all the singing and musical numbers. Having sworn off Law and Order, Christopher Meloni made me change my mind with SVU because he is SO DAMN HOT and I just can't resist his insane amounts of charisma. I swear I don't usually watch actor's work just because I like their character but Victor Garber and Chris Meloni act in a way that reminds of their past characters and it's just nice seeing them again. I wish Lena would do more TV because I want to see her as well! Oz and Beecher/Keller have managed to get under my skin so I can't help but love and think about them so I'm slowly rewatching the first season. B/K kind of traumatized me by hurting me so much though so sometimes it's hard to watch.

I'm posting more of my Queer as Folk and Brian/Justin thoughts at IJ since some of the fandom is over there so if you want to read about that my journal's here. I'm also posting pretty regular updates at Twitter here if anyone is actually interested. I do better with short updates so I can override my perfectionist tendencies and I'm hoping this will be useful in the future if I want to see what I was up to back in the day.

I may have finally settled on my Premiere video after three tries. With some audio editing, I think it's manageable. I really hate vidding to deadlines though, the pressure can be so paralyzing. Hopefully someday I'll learn to start early.

Next up on my TV catching list: The OC S4, Flight of the Conchords, Prison Break S3, Psych, Sports Night and Carnivale.

The Ships Meme [Apr. 13th, 2008|07:43 pm]

[Current Music |"Do You Love Me" by Amanda Jenssen]
[Current Mood |calm]

Here's the ship meme that was going on awhile back. I divided my many ships up into primary pairings with OTPs first that I have the most emotional investment in and am most likely to want together or read fic (or vids) for and secondary ships that I still support and love but am not quite so in love with them. Check what you ship no matter how much you ship them. The line between shipping and just enjoying can be iffy so I may have left a few off my list. It's long so the poll is under the cut.

[Current Music |"In These Shoes" by Kirstie Maccol]

I'm so in the mood for this meme.

Originated by [livejournal.com profile] dsudis.

So I was adding some new interests to my LJ profile (because I, uh... have some new interests. Yes.) and found myself feeling defensive every time I typed a female name, thinking, basically, FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME, because I felt as if someone somewhere was going to be criticizing my love for them.

So, anyway, then I made a list of women who make me want to say FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME. They are far from the only women who are awesome, or the only women people need to be told to step off of, but they are the top ten I feel that way about, right now, off the top of my head.

If you want to argue with me about the awesomeness of any of these women, I am afraid I will simply be referring you to the subject line. THAT IS ALL.

Not a comprehensive list but these are a lot of my favorites:

Irina Derevko (Alias)
Cristina Yang (Grey's Anatomy)
Veronica Mars (Veronica Mars)
Kaylee Frye (Firefly)
Grace Polk (Joan of Arcadia)
Starbuck (Battlestar Galactica)
Pam Beesley (The Office)
Kima Greggs (The Wire)
Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)
Martha Jones (Doctor Who)
Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Jan Levinson (The Office)
Jaye Tyler (Wonderfalls)
Jordan Sullivan (Scrubs)
Claire Allen (Cupid)
Robin Scherbatsky (How I Met Your Mother)
Wilhemina Slater (Ugly Betty)
Laura Bennett (Project Runway)
Lucille Bluth (Arrested Development)
Kelly Kapoor (The Office)
Chuck Charles (Pushing Daisies)
Betty Suarez (Ugly Betty)
Sarah Connor (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)
Tami Taylor (Friday Night Lights)
Lisa Cuddy (House)
Debra Morgan (Dexter)
Liz Lemon (30 Rock)
Lily Kane (Veronica Mars)
Lilah Morgan (Angel the Series)
Angela Martin (The Office)
Laura Roslin (Battlestar Galactica)
Claire Bennett (Heroes)
Sydney Bristow (Alias)
Phyllis Lapin (The Office)
Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Computers and TV= Love [Apr. 2nd, 2008|01:33 pm]

[Current Mood |accomplished]
[Current Music |"I Enjoy Being a Girl" vid]

I got my computer back! There are no words for how happy this makes me :D Computers and the internet and fandom and watching TV on my computer is a big part of my life and I make no apologies. I've been dyyying (that's right, dying!) to vid lately and now I finally can! I have my Sweet Charity vid all planned out and I'm so excited to do it not to mention my Premieres vid. Plus I really want to watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles so I'm glad to finally be able to do that not to mention finishing Farscape. Next on my list for long shows are X-Files (the movie is really encouraging me!) and SG-1 although I *have* to get through the first by Vividcon and I'd just like to do SG-1 by then. But besides that it's nice to be able to download music, put music on my iPod, comment and write posts at my house, download vids and access all my files. I say this a lot but I mean it this time, I will NEVER take my computer granted again nor vidding or writing because it's so wonderful to have the means to do it.

The Organization for Transformative Works is now accepting memberships and it only costs $10. I believe in this very strongly to have an archive for all fandoms with so many cool features (check out the roadmap on the site) and to protect all fannish works so I encourage everyone to join.

I usually don't read TV best of lists because the omissions or low ranked series piss me off but Empire's list is the greatest I've seen with a lot of high quality shows including many fannish ones. I have some problems with the numbering (Heroes is way too high in my opinion and The Wire should be #1) and a few of the best episodes (Not Pictured for Veronica Mars?! Many of the S1 episodes were better) but they have most of the ones that deserve to be on there. It seems some older classics may have been ignored but since I haven't seen most of them, I don't know. I do think The Office US should have it's own number because it's different enough and significantly changed the characters but they do mention it with the UK so I'll give them one. It's hard to rank TV anyway since episodes and seasons can vary in quality and the difference in network and HBO isn't an equal playing field not to mention some TV shows get a longer time to prove themselves versus others (see Firefly). I love the descriptions they gave of the shows though, nonspoilery and great at pimping me into shows since the list makers obviously have good taste.

Also? Flist you FAIL for not telling me Babylon 5 was all planned out for five seasons. I firmly believe that all TV shows should have a five year plan (or seven or ten, they can choose) and plan out as much as they can just like someone would do for a novel or movie in order to put as much foreshadowing and narrative unity as possible. This also avoids the classic not knowing what to do after the first or second season scenario. Now Babylon 5 has moved up greatly in my To Watch list. Any other shows I should know about that are very planned out (and good)?

Here's the list meme to go along with it:

1. Bold the shows you've watched every episode of
2. Italic the shows you've seen at least one episode of
3. Post your answers

The List )

Office wise, the new promos are making me SO HAPPY. God, I love that cast. Also, Kelly is awesome. I love her beyond words. 8 more days!! Plus new BSG in three YAY! Speaking of, I randomly saw an episode on TV with the Baltar gets "framed" and goes crazy episode and it was hilarious how many of the clips were in Let's Go Crazy.

It's definitely vidding season and I am loving all the vidding talk around my Flist. I'm so excited for Vividcon in four and a half months OMG. I've been reading lots of vid meta and watching my vids on DVD to try to study vids more in order to get better that way so that's been fun. Vidding has moved to be my primary fandom right now.

Tagged so vidding meme:

I tag (if you want to do it): [livejournal.com profile] buffyann, [livejournal.com profile] counteragent, [livejournal.com profile] kitkatbyte, [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup and anyone else who wants to do it.

[Current Mood |calm]

The Office is renewed for next year with 30 episodes! Hopefully most will be half hour ones this time. But more Office is always a good thing for me :D

I just found out that we get HBO here so I can watch The Wire series finale live! I am so excited. My first time ever!

So apparently Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk are both leaving Smallvile next year. Which just means I don't have to watch Smallville next season (once I'm caught up with 6th and 7th...) because without Lex, my interest in the show dies completely. Especially since I still don't like Clark. I've been holding out for the show since there's still this Clark/Lex vid I want to do for the show at some point which I've had in mind for like five years now.

For the few people who watch it: Skins 204: Michelle )

So I started watching Rome last night with [livejournal.com profile] lianri and I'm really loving it. Mostly because I have a ship! Titus/Lucius are soooo boyfriends. I love the looks between them, the funny, the banter and oh, everything. And I've only watched three episodes! I love the political stuff as well which is interesting since my knowledge of Roman history is fuzzy. I recognized Kevin McKidd and couldn't quite place him, first reminding me of the Primeval main character and then figuring out he's the lead actor from Journeyman (which is fitting because Primeval guy reminded me of him. Which I only saw the Pilot of but he's sooo much hotter in this show which just goes to show how much personality can help a character. Also Suzie from Torchwood is in it so that was cool.

Project Runway finale tonight! I am so excited to see the collections and who wins. I'm completely unspoiled so it should be a surprise.

I'm not doing the movie meme because I don't have 15 favorite movies and am horrible with quotes from them anyway. Instead, TV!

From [livejournal.com profile] giventofly37

1. Pick 15 of your favorite television shows.
2. Find a quote from each.
3. Post them for everyone to guess. (For a bonus, guess what episode it is and who said it.)
4. Cross out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the TV show name.
5. Looking them up (and then posting your answers) is, of course, cheating.

1. It's not lying if they make you lie. If the only truth they can accept is their own. Queer as Folk<., Brian -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] buffyann
2. Well, actually, despite popular opinion you really can't beat the truth out of someone. Veronica Mars -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] millylicious
3. Los Angeles. You see it at night and it shines; a beacon. People are drawn to it. Angel -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] nicole_anell
4. _____ is exactly what I need and you would agree if you weren't mired in self-loathing topped with a thin crust of megalomania. House -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] indybaggins
5. So, you know, that if it was your fault, I'd be the first son of a bitch to tell you. The Wire, Rawles -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup
6. I don't have the advantage of observing casual behavior... I'm curious. Alias -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63
7. And I think calling him that is an insult to the psychotic low-life community. Firefly -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] deathisyourart
8. A word of advice, be who you are, wear what you want, just learn how to run real fast. Ugly Betty -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] millylicious
9. And that doesn't usually lead to hugs and puppies. Buffy the Vampire Slayer -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] millylicious
10. Now these erasers are on lithium so they may seem cheerful but we actually caught them trying to shove themselves in the pencil sharpener earlier. Gilmore Girls, Lorelai -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] ciachick711
11. Yeah right, that would keep you warm for like 7 seconds. The Office, "The Fire", Dwight -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] tinted_glass
12. This son of a bitch is thinking in Japanese! Heroes, "Company Man", Matt Parkman -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] fahrbotdrusilla
13. I suppose I could pay my bills with blind kids' smiles, but their money is a lot easier. Pushing Daisies -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] nicole_anell
14. If this were a Lifetime Moment of Truth movie, this would be our act break. Arrested Development, Tobias -guessed by [livejournal.com profile] fahrbotdrusilla
15. "What is The Scarlet Letter about, ___?" "It's about a gal named Scarlet, obviously." Friday Night Lights, Tami and Tim -guessed by[livejournal.com profile] queenzulu

ETA: That was fast :) If anyone wants to fill in the episodes names or characters speaking, I'll credit you for those as well.

That took a lot longer than I thought. So many good quotes, so little time!

Happy Belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sundancekid! It's been a pleasure having you on my Flist and I always enjoy reading your posts :)

First things first, Vividcon registration is tomorrow! They open at 12 PM EST tomorrow here and I would strongly urge anyone who wants to go to get up early, have alarms in place (you can download computer alarms if needed!) and register immediately because it's probably going to sell out really fast even ten minute fast, who knows. I can't recommend Vividcon enough for anyone who loves vids. It's SO MUCH fun. There's the Premieres show and other vidshows with both new and old vids showing, really interesting vidding panels that help for both creating and watching vids, Club Vivid with lots of fun dancing to vids and many great fans who LOVE vids and create a friendly, enthusiastic and vid positive atmosphere. I've had the time of my life both times I went and for me it's worth all the money in the world. I would urge everyone interested to go!

Late on this but just in case anyone hasn't seen, the New To Me Vid Watching Challenge has a lot of great vid recs of some vids you may not have seen before. Hopefully soon I'll compile my own big rec list I've been meaning to do.

In light of Alias, I'm curious about what people think are the best and worst TV show pilots and finales. Especially relative to the overall quality of the show as a whole. What do you think makes a good Pilot and Finale? Here's a poll if you'd like to answer and I'd love any comments if you'd like to elaborate why (without spoilers preferred).

[Poll #1131677]

Also, here's a meme:
Name a fandom I'm into and I will tell you:

1. The first character I fell in love with:
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t:
4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
5. The character I would shag anytime:
6. The character I'd want to be like:
7. The character I'd slap:
8. A pairing that I love:
9. A pairing that I despise:
10. Favorite character:
11. What are your five favorite things about your fandom?
12. What are your five least favorite things about your fandom?
13. Who are your five favorite characters?
14. Who are your five least favorite characters?
15. What are your five favorite pairings?
16. What are your five least favorite pairings?
17. Which character are you most like?
18. What is your deep, dark fandom secret?

[Current Mood |good]

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] klia! I love your vids and think you are a kind and awesome person :) And yes, I'm going to try to do these this year since I will hopefully be posting more.

Know what's wonderful? Being out all day (including reading some interesting/inspiring books in the local bookstore) only to come home to read my amazing Flist. Just reading LJ, reading comments and seeing lots of vidding love puts me in such an awesome mood as I saw once again yesterday. It's just nice reading about so many things I'm interested in and that feels like *home* to me in a community way. I love it and don't know what I did before fandom.

If you haven't seen by now (have you been living under a rock?), the The Great Vidding Truth Meme is going around again where you can tell listed vidders anonymously what you think of their vids including (and encouragingly) constructive criticism. My thread is here and I would LOVE to receive any comments especially any thoughts on how I can improve as I'm always looking to get better. But everything is definitely appreciated. So if you'd like to make any comments on any vidders work and maybe find some new vidders, it's a great place for it. I really love to read the various opinions on vidders' work, it's always interesting to see what people think.

That Television Meme which I had to do as they used some Office quotes for titles )

Speaking of TV theme song, I am in LOVE with the S4 theme of The Wire. I can listen to it over and over for hours nonstop. It's just so emotionally resonant especially with the singers. I uploaded it here if anyone needs it. Also, does anyone have the Due South theme with words that I could download? I only have the instrumental and the words make all the difference in this case.

The Wire S4 and the strike [Nov. 2nd, 2007|09:18 pm]

[Current Music |"Respiration" by Black Star]
[Current Mood |crushed]

So I finally finished S1-4 of The Wire. Oh, show. It truly is the greatest show of all time. How is it that the last two episodes of every season completely rip your heart out? Season four is the worst with the KIDS. God, I could not stop crying and writhing on my bed at the tragedy of it all.

Spoilers for S4 of The Wire )

Now it's time for me to read and watch every media I can get about the show. And I'll definitely be watching it again for vidding (I have a song!) and understanding purposes. And because I love it. I know I'm missing some of the Greek tragedy aspects so I've got to read up on that. I'm going to get all the DVDs for Christmas too. So now that I'm all caught up, next on my list is Smallville and Farscape (FINALLY). Hopefully I can get those done and then it's a fight between Carnivale, Entourage, Rome and Sports Night. But that'll probably be next year.

So the writers are striking *sigh* Well, I'm looking at it from a pretend it's summer perspective so the worst of it will be losing The Office. I did hear that the reason why Paul Lieberstein didn't come to the convention was because he was trying to finish his script before the strike so I forgive him for that and further think he's awesome. I do think the writers deserve more money so I don't fault them but I do hope the strike doesn't last long so I can get my shows back soon. If they do go into reruns, it'll just be more time to catch up on other TV shows. The only good thing is The Wire won't be affected so at least there's that.

Good luck to everyone doing NaNo! My only goal this much is to try to post and comment more.
