Out of the ones running, Pushing Daisies for continuing to be perfect, The Wire for still being better than every show while having it's weakest season and Mad Men for continuing to have such depth, richness and brilliance.

What show impressed you least in 2008?
Heroes S3
SGA S5 minus a few great episodes

I seemed to have gained more fandoms than I expected. Pretty good year I'd say and I am especially happy with picking up Alias with my second favorite ship, Jack/Irina along with some excellent shows like Oz (and my other new favorite ship Beecher/Kellar!), Six Feet Under and Mad Men (Sal!). Hoping to get some classic great shows off my list next year like The West Wing, The X-Files and The Sopranos. Going to be a busy year so we'll see what I get done.

SG-1 and Dead Like Me! Whooo! Those are very good. I highly recommend on both counts. Dead Like Me is very sweet and funny. Clever in an unexpectedly optimistic sort of way. I just watched the series and I loved it. :) And SG-1, well, that's just epic. :)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
I actually watched the Pilot of Dead Like Me and liked it so I'm already on board there. Just haven't gotten around to finishing it. And SG-1's going to take me awhile especially with the episodic nature of it but I figure I take it slow and I'll be okay. I'm already onboard J/D slash so that helps. I want to get The X-Files done first though.

[identity profile] fatema.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the Jack/Daniel of SG-1. I never got into that pairing, actually.

Oh, I've been meaning to get into The X-Files. How are you liking it?

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
I've only seen like two episodes but I already like Mulder and Scully (personality wise) so that helps. Actually same with Jack and Daniel, I like the characters and potential ship so I'm interested on seeing the show episodic plots or not. Although I know there's some serial arcs on both.

J/D just seems like it fits my favorite dynamic (plus it's looks hot from the vids) but I am open to whatever happens of course.

I'm stealing this meme!

and my other new favorite ship Beecher/Kellar!
This has recently become my ONLY ship! I thought I had given up shipping altogether until I met THEM! And due to my investment in THEM I still haven't watched the last 3 episodes of OZ because 6x05 DEVASTATED ME! I need to separate myself from the show for a while before I can work up the courage to continue.

Oh... and when you start the Black Donnellys let me know, because you should see the pre-aired pilot(which I will upload), not the one on the DVDs or that aired on TV. The network didn't want to invest any money into the show and changed some of the music choices made by the show-runner, and as a result the end of the pilot is not as powerful.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
OMG aren't they amazing?? I was completely under their grasp throughout that entire show. The New Year's kiss is one of favorites of all time. And I know what you mean, the end of S6 is emotionally heartwrenching. But you should definitely finish it up at some point, there's always fic remember. Glad you found a ship! Feel free to ramble about them anytime :)

Sure I would definitely want to see the best pilot. I recall hearing about music issues or something. Looking forward to watching it!

[identity profile] deathisyourart.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
I shall upload the BD pilot tomorrow. :)

I'm not really a fic person, which presents a problem when canon hurts me to a great degree. And you might not have wanted to invite me to ramble, because WOW do I have a lot to say... of course at the moment the only thing I can think of is "Kellar is a sexy beast!" \o/ Mmmm New Year's kiss! I've started watching bad shipper vids on youtube to get my fix of Beecher/Kellar, how sad is that? I may have also named my new cell phone Kellar, and I found a short lived series called Wanted (not a great show, but kinda fun) in which Lee Tergesen is hot as hell for all the wrong reasons... and I need to stop consuming sugar! :P

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool :)

Ah right but if you have a ship maybe you should give it another try. In any case, focusing on the good helps too. I love reading/talking about B/K so I don't mind lots to say. But YES Kellar is insanely sexy. I watched bad shipper vids too! They are addicting. I started watching SVU for Meloni so I know how you feel there. And that reminds me that I need to add Generation Kill to my list.

[identity profile] deathisyourart.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I can control my addiction, I'm not downloading SVU episodes as we speak, I can quit any time I want to! Actually, SVU is the only Law & Order that I will watch, I just never watched it consistently.... but now I should change that. Apparently, this is Meloni's last season, so I won't have to worry about an open ended show that I will have to keep up with during school.

And Generation Kill is a little light on the Lee Tergesen, but still truly AWESOME!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I was able to stop thankfully. But damn Meloni has got major sexiness going for him.

I am watching more for David Simonness than Lee actually so that's alright. Should definitely get on that soon.

[identity profile] blaithacs.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oz is -and will probably remain- my favorite TV show ever. Best thing that ever graced the face of the telly IMO. The end broke me to pieces. I was so obsessed, so stuck in the series, it was all I could think about for days and months; it really shook me and captivated me completely.

And I am not only talking about the possessive destructive and tragic love of Beecher and Keller -which I absolutely loved and found myself engrossed in their relationship and interaction; ever single character was so... so real. Oz is a brutal, raw and violent show, true, but it stays with you forever once you watch it.

Good choice you made by watching it; I recommend it to anyone who asks me about what tv series to try next --if I think they can handle it, that is ;)

Dead Like Me FTMFW. And Prison Break is surprisingly amazing this season (though, it feels like I'm the only one in my flist for believing so, lol).

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It is definitely one of the best shows ever. I'm surprised it doesn't get more recognition for that actually, it reminded me strongly of The Wire so I thought it'd get more props for that. But I totally agree that it was everything about the show that made it so good, so many real and raw characters. I'm SO glad I watched it!

I have two people on my Flist who believe STRONGLY in how great PB is (sdwolfpup and sol_se if you're interested) so I must get caught up in its crack.

[identity profile] noncanontv-girl.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you will like True Blood once you catch up =)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ehh maybe but I didn't really like the first five episodes. I hated the main pairing so that didn't help, I'm just sick of love at first sight sort of things. But I did like the concept so that helps.

[identity profile] noncanontv-girl.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually am not crazy about the main pairing either. Sookie kinda annoys me. I LOVE the "secondary" characters, though. Lafayette + Jason = SO AWESOME :)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah me too. I did like Lafayette (don't remember Jason) so that'll at least help.

[identity profile] illusionaltzu.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Fringe was (or I guess *is*, but I don't know anyone who watches it) the strangest show ever, wasn't it? Good acting, awesome people from Oz/The Wire, stories about government conspiracies and the supernatural and aliens and such and yet... it was so deadly, deathly boring. I watched four or five episodes of it too, hoping that it would improve, but no. Every single episode bored me to tears.

I'd suggest The Mentalist for your 2009 list -- I've only seen a few episode so far, but the two lead actors are both amazing, and the writing is pretty decent too. Oh, and I'm glad to see you're going to give H:LotS a chance after all! It is good stuff.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I can keep watching boring shows if the characters are lovable and interesting but I felt all of them were flat and boring (minus the crazy old guy) so it just couldn't hold my interest. Plus I'm kind of fed up with JJ.

I just can't do episodic procedurals anymore. I'm making an exception for H:LotS because of the Great writing, David Simon and Tim (bisexual! so cool) and Frank so that'll be my cop show for the year.

[identity profile] illusionaltzu.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Tim Bayliss is really cute, too. I'm only on the forth season, but so far I'm loving it and I'm sure you're going to enjoy it as well.

Oh, and I got The Wire season five for Christmas. I'm eager to watch the final season but at the same time... sad that this will be all there is, you know?

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope so! I know I'll never love the format but I'm sure I'll enjoy the character/thematic stuff.

Yes watch it! Yeah it's sad but it's so rewatchable I don't mind too much, there's always something new to discover.
