Two vidding questions and vidtalk

Two vidding questions of the day:

1) What is your definition of a crack vid?

2) What are your favorite Lord King Bad Vids?

CVV vid clipping should be done today, yay! Since I'm soon to be vidding, I've been thinking about pacing and vidding to the beat and such. In dance clubs, there's usually a strong beat and I know I want to hit that a lot but at the same time I don't want to clip in the same place and make it repetitive. I read somewhere that it's not how fast the video clips are but rather that they're placed at different lengths and the pace varies that determines how fast the vid comes across to the audience. So I will be trying to do that to keep it fast moving and fun to watch.

1. For me a crack vid is something that goes against canon for the lulz. But I wouldn't consider a comedic vid that works with canon to be a crack vid, nor would I a vid that's constructed but serious.

2. I'm only half remembering LKBVs I've seen, but I know I liked Dualbunny's Spike & Angel vid to You Don't Mess Around With Jim allot when it came out.

Interesting. Makes sense to me though!

Oh I love that vid :)

I'm not into crack anything, so I haven't really watched any crack vids, but my take is that they're AU's that totally ignore canon.

My favorite LKBV is Zoe's Jolene. Love that vid.

Definitely mix up which beats you cut on -- the easiest way is switching between different instruments (and vocals, if there are any).

That Jolene vid was my fist thought!

It couldn't be more perfect, could it?

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I just get this sense like I know what they are but I don't know the exact definition and I was just wondering if there was one out there. Going against canon seems to be the major thing.

Yeah that's one of my top favorites, always makes me laugh.

Yeah I'm going to be trying that, it's just hard for me to decide which intrument/vocal to cut on or how often to do it.

I consider anything with a sickenly sweet song, an inappropriate song for the fandom, or a ridiculous concept not meant to be comedic to be a crack vid.

And my favourite LKBV is [livejournal.com profile] renenet's Man In Motion (http://renenet.livejournal.com/222663.html)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's really interesting. The sweet/inappropiate song seems to be more like a LKBV and I think that's fascinating that they intersect. I've certainly seen crack!vids described as that though.

I love that vid :)

[identity profile] deathisyourart.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
For me a LKBV song is a song that is actually PERFECT and SO TRUE, yet also really corny. *cough*anythingfromthe80's*cough*

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, can't agree with that any more :)

[identity profile] deathisyourart.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Though the LKBV actually has a definition, I think that you'll get a lot of different ones for crack vids, as well as many that overlap or contradict each other.

BTW, the LKBV show from VVC can be found here (http://community.livejournal.com/vividcon/86920.html#cutid1).

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I get the definition of a LKBV but I've never seen one for a crack vid so I was wondering about that.

1) What is your definition of a crack vid?

A vid focused on a plumber's ass assets? ;-)

Seriously, um, the ironic thing is I label many vidding ideas as 'crack' and then file them away into a vidding projects folder... but to define 'crack'? I guess it's like defining Smallville: captivated by a 'trainwreck'.

A crack vid would utilize material that'd be normally incompatible together and its jarring nature would either work or not work for a viewer. It's often a thin line of perception.

As to favorite LKBV, not unless a vidder labels their work as LKBV, I'd probably avoid calling a vid such. There's enough vids *I* thought was LKBV but it wasn't the vidder's intention. In other words, can't offer an opinion on question 2.

Good luck on the vid!

Hee. That sounds like a good description of it though. Do you have any favorite LKBV's out of the people who do label their vids that way?

Thanks :)

1) like crackfic, something that brings you intense joy in both the making and the sharing of it, especially if it completely goes against the tone of the source. Examples: SGA "We Built This City" which is sheer cracky perfection, and TW "Papa Don't Preach" which is so the vid I'm sure John Barrowman himself would embrace as true perfection of crack.

2) MAN IN MOTION OMG. SERIOUSLY.

[identity profile] evilprettykitty.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That We Built This City vid was fab! I'm not sure I have ever laughed so...the twinkles!
ext_6848: (Default)

[identity profile] klia.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I adore that SGA vid, but to me it's not cracky because it's basically canon. *g*

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Nonsense, SGA canon could never afford that many special effects. ;)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The intense joy sounds about right for me. Not sure about We Built This City, I can see how it can be crack and not depending on your definition but it's certainly amazing. Very true about Papa Don't Preach though, love that.

So much love for that vid too :)

[identity profile] stephmck.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
To me, a crack vid is a comical vid ("Rubber Ducky" in the QAF fandom comes to mind). It's all in the way the music and visual narrative is put together, but your face can't help but split into a huge grin.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
But there's definitely some comedy vids that aren't crack vids so it needs a bit more to the definition but the funny party does play into it. I like that example though, I can see that.

[identity profile] daybreak777.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
A crack vid reminds me of crack fic. Total, total AU reading of the show. LOL funny or weird. A bit crazy but happy-making. And fun. So much fun to watch.

This (http://jenncho.broken-road.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=5&pos=5) is one of my favorite AU vids about House out there. It's crazy but makes me giggle. :-) Gotta love crack!

(Oh, it works better in IE than Firefox. Have fun!)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, I like your definition. The House vid reads a little more constructed reality/AU than crack to me, I can see where'd you'd label it as such but that's what I'm interested in, the varying perception.

[identity profile] daybreak777.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I labeled it crack because it make me giggle, it was so silly. But now I'm interested in your definition. This may need a crack vid recs list from you or me. ;-)

But definitions first! Hee, I love talking about vidding. :-)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what mine is! That's why I was asking :) I think crack is a litte bit more out there though-House stalking someone is not too far from the truth of the show (just see his behavior with Wilson circa S5 ;)) while crack is more WTH were they smoking when they made this kind of thing. Which is actually a pretty good definition lol.

[identity profile] daybreak777.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
While crack is more WTH were they smoking when they made this kind of thing.
I think you may have found the perfect definition!

I love that Wilson-stalking is canon. Maybe that whole show is lovely crack and I am just used to it. And enjoy it muchly. :-D

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's a bit too serious and realistic to be crack but it certainly it has its crazy elements once in awhile (see No Reason).

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
1.) Funny and crazy. For example, an over-the-top constructed reality vid strewn with special effects. I'm having trouble with how to phrase this: it's crack when you're not supposed view the vid on its own terms. Does that make any sense?

2.) Man in Motion may be my favourite, but You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk (http://sweetestdrain.livejournal.com/154965.html) comes close, because OMG SO TRUE.

...You know, it could be argued that every "vid" made outside of fandom falls (not necessarily intentionally) under one of these two categories. :P

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Two perfect words for it. I don't get that sentence though, can you explain it more?

Oh I looove those two. Forgot about that second one.

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
How about this: When watching crack vids you aren't expected to suspend your disbelief, because they are purposely beyond belief.
