So I saw this movie when it came out and was really impressed at how beautiful it was while telling a moving story about multiple queer characters. I really loved the main character's journey and I was excited to get a chance to vid her when I got matched with [personal profile] livrelibre. I really wanted to find a song by a black woman indie artist like she suggested and after initially thinking Final Round wasn't going to work, I realized it was the right song for what I wanted to show. It was also extra fun when I finally got a chance to meet [personal profile] livrelibre and had to keep my assignment vid secret AGAIN :) I initially tried to vid this in HD 1080p footage on my old laptop but my poor computer couldn't handle it so I figured it was time to buy a new computer and this was the first vid I vidded on my shiny new Macbook Pro. The process was relatively easy for an assignment as the structure wasn't too hard to figure out although working with movie source became a bit hard when I wish I had some more clips for the end. I finished this earlier than usual although a week or so is not saying much, I had most of it done by Christmas. I've been offering Pariah for awhile now and am glad I finally got a chance to vid it!

All feedback (including concrit) is much appreciated. Enjoy!

Downloading to watch over and over (and probably cry some more because feeels)! This was perfect, just exactly what I wanted from a vid for this beautiful and moving source. Every time I watch it I see something new. I love the way you use every bit of the music (and perfect song choice btw; it fits so well for her fight and she is still standing by the end) - the tense build up of the beginning (all the little moments like the flip, hand stamp and money shaking, Alike's hands when she's talking to Bina on the beach on the vibrato) and all the great clip lyric matches (on "Maybe I deserve this, maybe this was meant to be?" and "My thoughts are rearranging, but my fears have all taken a stand" and all the final bows). The intercutting at the end never fails to get me in the heart too. I also love how much you get in here about her relationships with everybody-her mom and dad, her sister, Bina, Laura, even a bit about her poetry and teacher. And Alike's faaaace! Ugh this gives me all the feels. Fabulous work and neverending thanks to you!

Plus good job on the stealth :) I had no idea when we met that you were my Festividder!

Oh god this is heartbreaking, but also just a really beautiful vid. I especially love how you vid the transformation of changing clothes to hide/become part of an identity at the beginning and hopeful exploration of sexuality in the middle.
