Dear Festividder,

Thank you so much for making me a vid! I am so excited to see what you come up with and I'm sure it'll be amazing. I love all kinds of music so follow your heart and what suits the vid for you. If you're looking for any guidelines, I tend to prefer indie pop, indie rock, hip hop, mashups, top 40, instrumentals, any kind of music that's emotional or that includes dynamic instrumentation. I love all kinds of vids, character studies, feels vids, shipper, meta, experimental, effects-y vids, dance-y vids, fast or slow, dark, angsty or happy. Any rating or content is fine with me. If you need to use limited (not including Uprooted obviously) external source for your vid idea, I'm totally cool with that. I love Festivids so please enjoy yourself, I'm sure I'll love whatever you make!

There's also a new vid exchange called Equinox that will run in both spring and fall with different themes (voted on) which you can find more about here. The current exchange is space themed and you can find a list of letters with fandoms and requests here if you want to make any treats. I didn't sign up but I maaaay make a treat depending on time and motivation. I have a bunch of vids planned for cons so I'm not sure if I will but you never know.

I'm mostly still on Twitter these days but I'm enjoying all the posts on DW and hope to post more here soon!

I saw this movie relatively recently and was blown away by how hot it was and how much I loved Corky and Violet. I was happy to see [personal profile] aurumcalendula participating in femslash as we have similar interests and wanted to make her a treat. I only had time to make something short but I wanted to put some of the sexy footage to good use and when I heard this song, I knew it would work perfectly. It took me forever to finish my other vids the day before Festivids Golive so I only had 4 hours to vid this but thankfully it didn't take very long and I definitely enjoyed making it ;)

When I saw [personal profile] awkwardlyary's requests go up, I loved most of them and wanted to make something for her. Finally I heard this song and knew I could make a fun dance vid for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I didn't have a lot of time so I decided to limit myself to the music videos from the show and had SO much fun watching them again as I forgot how hilarious they were. I wanted to focus on my favorite women and the femslashy ships with them since that's my favorite part of the show. It was a lot of fun to vid all the dance-y clips and find all the parallels and femslashy footage in the source and it came out relatively quickly. Even if you don't watch the show, I highly recommend watching all the music videos which you can find on Youtube.

I wasn't planning to vid this pairing but then I was listening to some of my favorite songs and I heard this song and instantly made me think of them. I've always LOVED the "man loves a man" section and wanted to vid it and this seemed like the perfect opportunity since I wanted to vid this source and make a treat for [personal profile] eruthros. I had the most fun time vidding the music kissing section and then had fun setting up all the slashy moments of them together that led me to believe in the source that it would happen. It was great to make a quick treat and hopefully get some people to try this wonderful show!

After I saw Ghostbusters, I was SO in love with Jillian Holtzmann and I figured I'd have to vid her at some point to let out my feels. I had an idea for a Holtzmann vid I wanted to make so I offered it for Festivids and was happy to see I got assigned a fellow Holtzmann lover :) I struggled some with my idea which turned out to be bigger than I could make especially considering some RL issues and I couldn't figure out how to structure the vid. I wanted to default a lot but I pushed through and decided to cut down my idea and make a vid about Holtzmann finding her family with the ghostbusters. After that, it became a lot more fun to vid and I was able to quickly vid it and make it look the way I wanted it to look. I was glad I was able to finish and bring some more Holtzmann love to the world!

So I really wanted to make a Hamilton vid for Festivids but most of my vid ideas for the show required too much footage I didn't have as well as a lot of time that I didn't really have with all the other Festivids I wanted to make. So I thought it wouldn't happen this year until I found this song and I must have been in a Hamilton mood because only half the lyrics make sense for him and the other half are COMPLETELY wrong. But I kept getting attached to the idea and I figured if I had time, I could make a vid in the last couple days before the deadline by cutting the song down. I didn't really have time but I made enough to cut out all the lyrics that didn't fit Hamilton and just kept the last chrous and figured I'd just make a happy, Hamilton focused ensemble vid for the show. At one point, I thought about making the vid more meta about the show phenomen itself but when I tried to do that, I realized I didn't have enough time to tell both stories adequely so I just went with Hamilton the show.

It was a LOT of fun to vid this because I'm so obsessed with the musical and vidding allowed me to really see each little face movement and all the little details I miss on regular viewings. The lyric matchings were really fun although it became a bit tricky to have some more structure for when it was less obvious but I enjoyed comparing Jefferson & co to redcoats at the end fighting section as well as figuring out ways to introduce all the major players in Hamilton's life. One of my favorite clips is Hamilton's smile to Angelica because SO CUTE and I also loved putting in my little "follow" Hamilton/Washington moment. Ultimately I wanted to make it for [personal profile] sdwolfpup since she has been so awesome on Twitter with quoting Hamilton and being fun to talk to about Hamilton and Leslie. I wanted to make her a Burr vid actually but could never find a song that would work for such limited footage and I also figured someone else would do it. Anyways, the beginning turned out to be one of the trickiest parts but I was happy with the way the whole vid turned out in the end even if I'm not sure if it's a bit too fast. In any case, do not worry, this is DEFINITELY not the last Hamilton vid you'll see from you and I'm so excited to vid it when we have HQ footage of the whole musical to vid the longer vids in my head.

So I've wanted to make [personal profile] chaila a Festivid for 3 years and every year, her vid was next on the list and I didn't have the time to make it so this year I was determined to make her a vid. There is a sad lack of Gone Girl vids and last year at Escapade, I heard Blow and thought it'd make a fun Amy vid. Plus, almost all of the LA vidders have vidded Blow by Kesha (some version of it) at some point so I figured I might as well do it myself. I wanted to find a remix of the song so I could do some quick cutting and couldn't find anything that worked for it except this song which has already been used in one of my favorite Club Vivid vids but I decided to use it anyways. I tried to reread the book before I made the vid but got stuck in the Nick sections but finally figured out the book is a MILLION times better skipping Nick's sections and just reading the glorious Amy sections.

I got distracted by another festivid so I got started on this vid late but once I clipped it, I struggled a bit coming up with how I wanted to vid it. It helped me a LOT once I decided to cut out more of the song than I first imagined so that allowed me to just focus on the parts of the movie I wanted to vid: Amy being a mastermind and destroying Nick :D Some of the faster cutting sections were difficult and [personal profile] hollywoodgrrl helped with that as well as the slower section in the middle. I particularly loved the "throw some glitter" section as I knew what I wanted to do with that from the beginning of the vid. I still wish I had more time to work on the vid but I'm really glad I got to make an Amy vid and that a lot of it came out similar to my initial vision for the vid and what I wanted to show.

So when I fell in love with Troye Sivan, I started reading some articles about him and eventually came across one talking about other gay music artists and Olly from Years & Years came up. I started listening to Years & Years music and fell in love with the deep emotion of Olly's voice as well as the band's beautiful music videos. I was intrigued by the idea to make a music video of most of their music videos to try to combine them together to tell a coherent story which I hadn't really done before and looked for a song that reflected the emotion and the story I wanted to tell. I couldn't find anything good enough and finally decided to use the song, Shine since I loved it and they had made a bunch of music videos to the song so clearly one more wouldn't be an issue ;) I clipped all the music videos and organized the clips a bit but then got distracted by my assigment so I wasn't sure if I would finish this vid since I had another ambitious vid I was working on. When I decided I wouldn't have time to finish that one, I decided to try to make this vid especially since I really wanted to make a vid for [profile] winterevanescence.

I really loved the process of trying to create a story that didn't exist through vidding instead of fic and the structure was really fun to do. I started this at the end of December and the beginning came pretty easy as knew I wanted to show Olly becoming separate from his bandmates after being distracted and tempted by pretty colors and symbols that would become important to the band. I struggled with the later parts as I soon realized that I didn't have enough footage to cover the whole song and I had to figure out which parts I had the footage to keep and would work with the story of the beginning. I was able to figure it out and I liked the whole idea I had of creating Olly's evil twin that was trying to destroy him leading to the house coming apart as Olly tried to find his way back to the happiness of playing music with his bandmates at the end. There was another layer that I didn't know if anyone would get to the story where to me it was kind of a metaphor to when you get distracted by your negative thoughts (that *evil* part of yourself) or other things that take you away from happiness and you have to find your way back to the light. In any case, I also have fun playing with the colorful footage and vidding in a little bit more of a flow-y way and I was glad that I was able to make it.

So I heard the song "Headphones" and fell in love with it as for me it's a perfect representation of that mood that I relate to when I want to ignore the outside world and just focus on creating, usually vidding. It reminded me of Beca from Pitch Perfect as she's such a great representation of fan artists with her mashups and how she loves her headphones. I felt bad that I wouldn't get to make a treat for [personal profile] metatxt since she was my assignment so I decided to make her this treat while I was looking for a song for her assignment. I cut the song down because the concept was pretty small and I wanted to use only the best clips and thankfully it was easy and fun to vid. Most of it was done by the beginning of November which helped lesson some of my assignment stress. I wanted to keep Jesse, Chloe and the Bellas out of the vid as much as possible as Beca did connect with them (which I showed for the latter two in my ensemble vid) which limited my clip choices a bit but I made it work. Ultimately I was pleased I made this vid and that a bunch of people got that it was about vidding and fandom in general as that was a major reasons why I decided to make the vid.

So I was planning to make [personal profile] metatxt a Bechloe vid since I knew she LOVED them and so when I got assigned to her, I was super excited to get a chance to actually make it especially when I read her Dear Festividdder letter which was hilarious and inspiring. I also loved that I was making it for Festivids since I had used the Pitch Perfect finale song a few years ago to make my Parks vid and it felt very full circle to vid the actual movies. My first problem though was finding the right song and that turned out to be a little harder than I thought as it took me about two weeks. While I looked around for songs, I clipped the movie and once I finished, I already had the song for Headphones so I vidded that as I was waiting but I started to get nervous because I wanted to finish the vid by the end of the November (ha!). I was complaining about it to [personal profile] elipie and then I started just searching for titles that reminded me of the vibe I was looking for and "Alive" was one of them, I found this song and the rest was history. Except that I actually planned to cut the song after the second chorus because I didn't think I had enough Bechloe footage but later on when I tried it, it felt cut off and like the ending wasn't strong or conclusive enough and that it needed more.

Yeah, so that's when I decided I needed to add the rest of the song and make it more of an ensemble dance chorus so that was more clipping I had to do which made the vid take longer than I expected. I struggled a little bit with making the choruses be fun and dance-y in an interesting way as well as dealing with the heavy face shots of the Bechloe scenes but was able to find a way to make it work for me and I had a lot of fun vidding the quick editing sections before the choruses. Even though it was harder than I expected and took longer, it was really fun to rekindle my Bechloe love and gave me a lot of feels and I was glad it made [personal profile] metatxt happy in the end.

So I knew I wanted to make a How to Get Away With Murder vid for Festivids and I was lucky enough to have two great songs fall into my hands for it. I decided to make this one because I looove Annalise/Wes and wanted to vid out my feelings for them. Plus I knew Nicole liked them too so she would enjoy it as well. I started vidding the beginning but after that I was busy working on my other Festivids and this one started to fall by the wayside. But I was determined to make it and I was able to finish clipping and get little bits of vidding done in the weeks before golive. Finally I was down to my last two days of vidding and this was one of the vids I worked on with the deadline forcing me to let go of my perfectionism issues with vidding all the fast parts. This vid almost didn't exist, I literally was up ALL night finishing it and at 4am almost gave up on it because I was so tired and didn't think I could finish it. Thankfully, a few supportive words from a friend and taking a short break got me back to finishing it and I was able to finish up all edits before golive went live. I was also very thankful for the last episode of HTGAWM that aired a couple days before the golive deadline that gave me some AMAZING footage that I put to good use.

I've wanted to make a Keith/David vid since I saw Six Feet Under for the first time and fell in love with them but my plans to actually make it kept being delayed because I kept stalling in my rewatches and putting them off til I could better take the show emotionally. But finally I found this perfect song this year and knew I just had to bump up this show in my priority rewatch list especially as I wanted to use watching it as a bit of grief therapy. The show was tough to watch at times and watching the finale was almost worst this time having a more personal experience with death but it was good to finally get to see the greatest TV show finale ending of all time again. I was able to take clip notes while watching which made clipping much easier than it could have been. The vid came together pretty easily as it was mainly finding the most significant moments for them and trying not to cry too much with the ending. This Festivids year was the year of crying for me (both happy and sad) and this vid was probably the vid I've cried the most throughout the entire process but I'm really glad I finally have a vid that sums up my feelings about them.

So I finally watched Luther around October (?) of last year and fell madly in love with Luther/Alice. I didn't expect to make a vid for them for this year's Festivids but in looking for shipper songs to express my feels for them, I heard the song Can't Pretend (which was on my to-vid playlist from last Festivids) and it was SO THEM and all of a sudden I wanted to vid it for them. Problem was I was worried about time and my original plan for this vid was a lot more ambitious (turned out it wasn't right for this vid). So I decided to pick up a pinch hit for lunesque to give me the deadline motivation to clip and vid this song which felt a bit above my ability. I clipped out most of the J/A stuff and was having fun vidding the beginning and a few other of my favorite ideas for the vid when I started stalling and having trouble getting myself to vid this. Largely I had such big perfectionist ideas about the vid that my fear of failure made me avoid the vid which is how I ended up having to vid this in the last two weeks before the deadline which does get rid of fear of failure but was not fun when also trying to finish my assignment vid. Ultimately there are a few things I wanted to change and make better but I ran out of time and now don't have the motivation to fix. But I'm glad I was able to make a shipper vid for them that expressed why I love them so much and was able to let out some of my feelings.

I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower a few years ago and fell in love with it and was so happy to find out the writer was making a film version of the book so I could vid it. I wanted to vid the movie last Festivids but couldn't find the right song but in the last year I heard this song and fell in love as it captured the book and movie perfectly. I made this vid in the first couple weeks after assignments went out as it was relatively easy to make as most of the structure and clips easily came to me and it was a lot of fun to vid. It's a bit different than my normal style in that I wanted to let the clips breathe more and fully show the connection between the three of them.

Thank you so much for making me a vid!!! I am sure I will love whatever you make so don't stress about it. I love all kinds of music so don't be afraid to choose any genre of music that fits the source for you. I also enjoy all kinds of vid genres from the shippy to character studies to meta to feels and everything in between. I'm fine with any rating and any content so have no fear about that.

Here are the fandoms I'm requesting with some details (and pictures/gifs) of what I love about them. Most of all, have fun and make a vid that you really love!

Even though I'm not in school right now, the beginning of September always feels like a new beginning to me. It seems like a good time to share my plans for the rest of the year and the time to come as I finally have some ideas of what I want to do.

First a catchup of the last three months. In May, I went to a fun Ingrid Michaelson concert with [livejournal.com profile] beerbad and had a great time listening to some of my favorite songs. Mother's Day was pretty sad and I tried to avoid the media but eventually gave in and just scrolled through and watched some sad TV shows and cried some. One of the most fun things I did was go to Malibu State Park and go to this little pond (not sure what the right word is here) where they had cliff jumping rocks and I went to the highest one (about 30 feet) and jumped off of it. It was SO fun and I had been feeling kind of meh about the world and it gave me an adrenaline rush that made me feel happy and full of hope again. I just love feeling like I'm flying and being that high in the air, I really felt like I was in the air on the way down and it felt amazing. I also went to a fun Harry Potter roller skating event where there was a ton of people dressed up and they played Harry Potter songs and it was just really fun even though at the end the music was meh so I put on my headphones and listened to shippy songs for my favorite couples (mostly Kane/Toews). I went to a Memorial Day BBQ with other geeky/fannish type people and had fun playing Cards Against Humanity and talking various TV shows with people. I had a lot of fun going to see the Chicago Blackhawks play the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center in my first live hockey game and I was lucky enough to see it with [livejournal.com profile] celli and get to see Toews score a goal right in front of me. [livejournal.com profile] celli and I had a lot of fun talking hockey and various real life stuff after the game and it was fun getting a chance to get to know her better. I also went to see a screening of the Mindy Project season finale and got to see a cast Q&A and later got to meet Mindy Kaling for the fourth time - and she remembered who I was for the third time ever. It was pretty cool and she even took a selfie of her and me. I also went to my second cousin's bridal shower and got to catch up with that side of my family and got to see my grandma's sister as well which was nice and I'm looking forward to going to his wedding in November.

In June, I spent a lot of time finishing my Femslash Premiere and my Premieres vid for Vividcon which was a bit stressful but I was ultimately able to finish by the deadline. I was also following the NBA draft and super happy when my favorite player, Tyler Ennis was selected 18th in the draft and another Syracuse player, Jerami Grant went to the Philadelphia 76ers which has a Syracuse player, Michael Carter-Williams who just won Rookie of the Year and who I slash with his friend on the team, Nerlens Noel so I'm looking forward to OT3ing them together. I also started watching the World Cup, following it seriously for the first time ever and fell in love with the USA team, most of all the coach, Jurgen Klinsmann. Jurgen who was a big star in Europe who won the World Cup with Germany in 1990, coached the German team to a 3rd place finish in 2006 (in Germany) but who loves the USA and lives there with his family so he decided to coach the USA team in 2011 and is attempting to turn the team around so it can eventually win the World Cup with the men's team. I really love what he's trying to do and his personality and I have a lot of hope that he can help us win it all so I began to follow the US team and was in ecstasy after we beat Ghana and went to a USA bar for the Portugal game with [livejournal.com profile] cenedrawood and was SO HAPPY when USA came back from a 0-1 deficit to be winning 2-1...only to lose in the last thirty seconds in one of the most heartbreaking sports moments ever for me. Thankfully we still had another game against Germany where Jurgen was coaching against his friend, Joachim Löm (who was his assistant coach when he coached Germany) and since I ship them together (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] caesaria), it was an entertaining game for me if terrifying. We lost by one but were still able to make it out of the group stages where we played Belgium which I don't even want to talk about because I'm still super bitter and prefer to think about how Tim Howard made 15 saves and Julian Green scored a goal on his first touch even though he's only 19 years old and was another young player that people complained about being on the roster and yet was one of the many players to prove that Jurgen knew what he was doing cause he's an amazing coach <3 Anyways, I started out rooting for Brazil (because they were at home, it meant a lot to them and they spent so much money at least they could get SOMETHING out of it), Germany, England, Italy and I also added the Netherlands after I saw their first game against Spain and enjoyed watching Robben and van Persie play. Eventually Germany and Netherlands were my favorite teams as after watching a documentary about the 2006 German team and falling in love with Robben as a player I wish I could be like, I emotionally connected with them, plus it helped that both teams did super well.

In July, I was really into basketball as the NBA summer league started and all the new rookies, 2nd year players and undrafted players trying to get a spot on rosters were playing and I watched the 76ers team do well in Orlando with my guy, Jerami Grant. The major summer league was in Las Vegas though and I decided to go to Vegas, buy tickets for the games (they're cheap) and let out my basketball feelings while trying to meet some of my favorite Syracuse players since many of them were going to be there. I had an amazing time, getting autographs and talking to Tyler Ennis, Rakeem Christmas (current SU player), Jerami Grant, Michael Carter-Williams, Baye Moussa Keita and Brandon Triche (former SU players) as well as watching a ton of players play for their teams. Unfortunately my car had some issues so I stayed longer than I wanted to but I also had fun hanging out with n0apologies (twitter) who I had met at Wincon and we had a great time talking about our lives, Adam Lambert, Queer as Folk and other fannish topics. I was also there duing the World Cup final and went to a bar to watch Germany play Argentina where thankfully Germany won and I was SO HAPPY as Jogi Low and the team had come soooo close to winning in the last 8 years and always came up a little short so I was super happy for the team to finally win it all and I just had such a fun time celebrating, happy crying and joining in the celebrations at the German bar.

Finally I got back to LA and had fun going to [livejournal.com profile] elipie's karaoke birthday party and then going to a Lady GaGa concert with her where we won free seat upgrades and got to hang in the VIP lounge with free drinks and hang out with hot half-naked boys while we could easily see Lady GaGa especially when she came over to the platform right above us. It was super fun getting to hear her sing some of her classic songs and she's an amazing performer so we had a fun time singing her songs and enjoying the performance. At the end of July, I went back home to Syracuse where I spent some time with my dad, caught up with my best friend and hung out with my cats at home. I also drove down to Pennsylvania to visit my cousin's family and spend some time with my aunt. My cousin is starting her own business so I spent a little bit of time at her shop and we also went with her family and my aunt to one of my favorite amusement parks where we used to go almost every year as a kid so it was very nostalgic to be back there again. Speaking of nostalgia, I also went to visit my childhood elementary school and was bummed to see they tore down the playground I had loved although they are building a new one, it's not the same. After that, I went to Vividcon which I'll talk about in a different post but the Wednesday after that, I had an amazing time going to Six Flags Magic Mountain with [livejournal.com profile] elipie getting a chance to talk about Vividcon, new vidding ideas and other fannish stuff.

This summer I had planned on taking some courses related to college admission counseling but after a couple of days trying to take them, I realized my heart wasn't in them as I wasn't sure yet whether that's what I wanted to do as it might not be big enough for me career-wise. Thankfully I was able to get a full refund and another thing that affected my decision was a revelation I had thought of while reading books about colleges. I kept having regrets while reading on how I wish I had gotten a true college experience and had gone to a more intellectual school when I realized - I could still do that. There was a college I had first heard about in high school called St. John's College that covered in four years, many of the so called Great Books but without lectures, it's all discussion based or laboratory based as they cover science using classic experiments and original texts for everything. Two of the most interesting aspects is learning Ancient Greek and learning math from classic books like Euclid's Elements which I've always wanted to do to understand more of where the English language comes from and understand the basis of math which I've always though could be interesting in the right context. The college is pretty intense but that's exactly what I want, a place where people want to read and think about some of life's biggest questions by reading some of the most enduring books many of which I've always wanted to read and just needed some more structure and people to discuss them with. I feel like my intellectual development has been pretty stunted the last seven years and I know I need to take a big leap to become the person I've always wanted to be and this college is the perfect way to take my communication skills both written and oral to the next level. I am an ambitious person and I have big dreams of doing things to change the world but I need to build a strong foundation so that I can accomplish that so I think I need to take a risk to go to this college and become the person I want to be.

During the summer I started working on my application which consists of three essays talking about why I want to go to the college, a book that has influenced me and a significant experience that has left an impact on me and I'm working on finishing that up by the end of this month. The college has a January program that I'm looking to get accepted at where by going to school over the summer, I'll be all caught up with the freshman year program and will be a regular sophomore by the time next September comes around (but thankfully I will get a summer vacation right before the first potential Vividcon weekend). The college gives good financial aid so I'm not too worried about the money aspect, the bigger opportunity cost for me is the time but I think the education I'm getting will be worth it and I'll be doing part time jobs, volunteer work and internships during the school years and summer to help me figure out the best work for me to do after college and I always have a backup job as a programmer as well. One of the biggest negatives is the college is in Santa Fe and although the weather is not too much colder than LA (averaging 45-85 plus like 6 snow days blech), it'll still be a big adjustment leaving the city (and friends!) I love to be in a much smaller city with less things to do (although Albuquerque is only 45 minutes away and Denver/Phoenix are semi-close too). But I think it's worth it for this oppurtunity that I can't get anywhere else and I feel like I'll always regret it and wonder what if, if I decided not to do go. Plus I'll definitely be visiting LA during breaks, Escapade and during my free summers so I think I'll be able to survive. Another concern is the book list is not that diverse but I know there are book groups there that cover more classic books written by women, minorities and Eastern writers so I'll be sure to be reading them. Something I'm excited about is they have a lot of sports intramurals so I'll still be able to play soccer, tennis and there's lots of nature for hiking and even rock climbing. Most importantly, I'll finally get to have a true college experience and make lots of new friends as even though the college is small, people are very self-selected towards the kind of people I tend to get along with (minus your obligatory pretentious arrogant idiots) so I'm looking forward to that. It'll be a big life change for me but I think this is the best step I can make in working on becoming who I want to be and for my development to being able to help the world solve the major problems we're facing.

I originally was applying for this fall semester but I was having a hard time being ready for that so I decided to wait til January although I have a plan for what I will be doing in LA until then. A friend recommended to me a friend of hers who has a philosophy PHD and is willing to meet with me to go over classic texts that I want to start reading this fall so I can have some accountability and someone to discuss things with to prepare me for St. John's College. I'm planning on working on doing more reading (besides fanfic of course) this fall as I sample many books from nonfiction to fiction in many genres. I'm going to be focusing especially about reading books about California and LA as I want to work on solving problems in the state and want to become more knowledgeable about the issues surrounding the state. I also am going to be doing some volunteering with various organizations to learn more about LA and start figuring out what exactly I would enjoy doing for jobs. I also have a part time job I'll be working on to earn some extra money. Another big goal of mine for this fall is to start seriously trying to date while I still have time in LA which should hopefully give me more motivation to do it. I'm also continuing to work on improving my Spanish through Duolingo and translating Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone from Spanish to English using my Kindle App Spanish to English dictionary. And I definitely want to spend more time with my friends in Los Angeles while I'm still here.

Another big focus for me this fall is heath and fitness as I'd like to lose about 15-20 pounds before the end of this year. I signed up for an accountability type service which has been good with keeping me on track with my eating and exercise goals. Something inspiring for me was watching Kacey Cantanzaro complete the city finals course for American Ninja Warrior, an obstacle course competition where participants can win 500k for winning the finals course in Las Vegas. That inspired me to look into parkour and rock climbing which are two training aspects that some of the best competitors do. I figured that even if I don't make it, it'd be a fun goal to try to train for the course as it looks really fun and it's something that anyone can accomplish even if they don't have a lot of training when they were younger (unlike most sports). Thankfully there is a parkour (more accurately, freerunning) gym in the LA area and I've already taken two beginner lessons there and had fun practicing in the opening gym sessions. So far it's pretty basic, working on vaulting over objects and precision jumping, jumping from one ledge to another but it's been really fun and a great workout and I look forward to being able to do the crazy workouts I see in the gym. I was super scared about doing a flip from the high ledge into the pit (filled with soft foam stuff) but finally managed to gather my courage and did as well as do some flips on the trampoline. I also attempted to run up the warped wall they have in the gym and tried to jump from one bar to another (not there yet). I've also been into soccer as I really enjoy team sports so I signed up for a three days a week soccer class at my local community college and although it's a bit intimidating as it's all guys except one other girl and many of them want to compete on the soccer team at the college, so far I've been having fun playing (minus getting blisters on my feet from my new cleats). I even scored a goal during a game! We've been mostly just playing games which was a bit disappointing as I hoped to practice some skills work as well but it's been fun and I've been learning a lot even if it's been pretty hot playing during the summer. I've also been keeping up with my strength training workouts since March and been continually adding more weight to my lifts. Food is always tough for me as I hate cooking and love delicious food but I've been making a lot of progress and have lost three pounds so far.

I can't wait for the new TV season! I've been watching some of the trailers for the new shows and have added a few shows that I'm going to check out this fall. While A to Z has a couple of annoying things about it, it also features the Mother from HIMYM and as soul destroying it is seeing her, the show looks really cute and right up my romantic loving alley with the whole matchmaking element. I'm also excited for How to Get Away With Murder as Viola Davis looks amazing in it, the premise sounds fun and deliciously messed up and I will always trust Shonda Rhimes to do crazy things. I'm also going to check out Utopia which fascinates me as I've always loved thinking about how to create the perfect society although the reality show format makes me keep my expectations down. I am also looking forward to checking out Survivor's Remorse which is about a BASKETBALL PLAYER (!!!) who becomes successful and must deal with everything that comes with it which sounds super fun for me to vicariously see that side of things and is produced by Lebron James (who I've come to not hate since he went back to Cleveland) so I'm very curious to check it out. I kind of wish I could watch The Flash because the lead actor is a guy I found SUPER hot on Glee (Sebastian!) but I've sworn off all superhero shows unless it features a female/PoC lead so I'll just be checking out Agent Carter. Mostly I'm going to be listening to friends and critics to see if there are any high quality shows I should check out. I'm really looking forward to The Mindy Project, Faking It and Scandal coming back especially the first two as they feature two of my favorite ships. I'm mostly planning on using the fall to continue to catch up with some well written shows I haven't watched yet including Deadwood which I MUST finish by the end of the year. On the movie side of things, this summer I LOVED Maleficent (Maleficent/Aurora all the way!), enjoyed X-Men: Days of Future Past and am looking forward to seeing The Hunger Games 3, The Hobbit 3 and Annie (love the trailer!). On the sports side of things, my new soccer team is Bayern Munich since they have my favorite player, Arjen Robben, lots of German players from the national team like Müller, Neuer and Götze and my fave USA guy, Julian Green (although he's on loan to Hamburg this year) so I already have an emotional investment in them and will be watching all their games. I'm casually following the English Premier League (mostly for my USA/Germany people) and some college football as well and will be checking out my usual NFL teams this fall (although I'm still super bitter there's no LA team) such as the Bills, 49ers, Giants, Chargers and Jets. We'll see timewise what happens as once NBA seasons starts in late October and Syracuse basketball in November, most of my attention will go to that because YAY BASKETBALL. Hockey will be back in October as well and I will check out some Chicago games sometimes.

Super excited for Festivids! I have about 6 possible nominations at the moment although I worry about qualification for a couple of them but I'm excited about them and the vid ideas I want to make already. Before I get my assignment though, I need to start working on my Escapade vid as that's going to require a time committment and I have another vid idea I want to make for next year that I need to get started on clipping right now to get it done in time for VVC. I have another vid that's almost done that I should hopefully post in the next week as well. I have a couple ideas that require me to stretch my skills that I'm really excited about even if it'll be a challenge, it should be fun to do. Other fun fandom-y things coming up is a bunch of NorCal (and elsewhere) fangirls are planning a Fandom Beach Vacation where we rent a beach house and just hang out all day and I'm so excited to hang out with my fandom friends in November :) I also need to plan out what to do for my birthday in October this year, I have an idea and need to check if it's realistic. I still can't believe I'm going to be 27...is that officially late 20s? Eek. But hopefully with all the plans I have in place, I'll be ready to enjoy this time in my life shortly!

Festivids have been revealed! You can check out the master list to see all the fandoms and vidder names. There was a TON of amazing vids and I made a big recs post in my head but haven't been in a posting mood lately. I was lucky enough to receive THREE wonderful vids that I love dearly. They are:

Spring Break Anthem (Arrested Development) made by [livejournal.com profile] lily_the_kid. This is an amazing GOB vid (and heavily GOB/Tony) that captures his character and their relationship so well. The editing is great and it's so much fun!

Friends (The Lion King!!!) made by [personal profile] jagwriter78. I never expected to get a Lion King vid so I was super stoked to get this and it's a wonderful, adorable vid full of hugs, friendship and love. I'm so glad I have a vid full of so many things I love about this movie that I can watch over and over!

Dutch (The Wire) made by [personal profile] chaila. A Stringer vid! My favorite character and this vid is a perfect encapsulation both the good and the bad with tight editing, perfect lyric matches and lots of feels!

Thank you to my wonderful festividders! They made my Festivid experience this year so awesome and extra happy :)

I had big plans this Festivids to make 15 vids, then 7 but I finally settled for four. I had the free time to make more but I struggled with not feeling emotionally attached or inspired with some of my vid ideas (and some minor tech issues) so I didn't end making as many as I hoped. My goal was four though so I'm very happy with that and they were all received as well or better than I expected so overall it was a great experience! I made three movie vids this year which was very different for me but the benefit is a LOT less clipping which I enjoyed. The vids I made were:

Final Round (Pariah - 2011): DW | LJ for [personal profile] livrelibre
Love, Save the Empty (Masters of Sex): DW | LJ for [personal profile] aphrodite_mine
All We Got (The Great Gatsby): DW | LJ for [personal profile] linguology
Get Me Bodied (The Fifth Element): DW | LJ for [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu

Thanks to everyone who commented on them already (hopefully I should reply soon) and I highly recommend checking out the vids! I am now working on clipping Game of Thrones (for most future vids) for Vividcon which is taking forever but will be worth it when I don't have to clip the same seasons over and over again in the future. I can't believe it's already time to start planning Vividcon vids (and panels/vidshows over at the community!) but registration is in a couple weeks so I'm excited to begin especially when I have so many ambitious ideas planned. Yay vidding!

So the backstory behind all the Beyonce was that Brad had mentioned he didn't know who Beyonce was and a bunch of his friends decided we should all make Brad Beyonce vids so he could hear some of her music ([personal profile] elipie will explain this better later). My problem was I had never seen any of Brad's sources but of all of them, The Fifth Element seemed the most likely to be of interest to me and the character seemed to be a good fit for Beyonce. So I saw The Fifth Element...and didn't like it. HOWEVER, I looooved Ruby as the character is basically made for me (confident, flamboyant and sexual? sign me up) so I was still excited to vid him. But then I had to find a song which proved more challenging than you'd expect. I went through all of Beyonce's music but none of my favorite songs seemed to work and I wasn't quite sold on Get Me Bodied at first. But then I realized it was perfect (I love that bridge) especially if I could cut it down right.

I was busy working on all my other Festivids and figured as a movie vid for a character with limited footage, I could vid this quickly the last week of Festivids before GoLive. Of course I waited til the last two days before GoLive and had to clip and vid very, very quickly. It was a LOT of fun though, especially the first section which was all my favorite scenes with Ruby combined in one short little package (one of the best parts of vidding). I was a little worried it might be a bit too slashy for Brad but COME ON, it was too obvious. This was the vid that I ended up staying up til 2 am finishing so that the credits for it is basically a representation of my state of mind at that point. I was really happy people liked it so much and I'm so glad I was able to vid one of my new favorites characters :)

All feedback (including concrit) is much appreciated. Enjoy!

This movie was near the top of the list of movies I wanted to vid for Festivids so I was super happy when I saw [personal profile] linguology had requested it. When I watched the movie in theaters, my favorite two parts were the beautiful visuals (seriously, it's ridiculous) and the perfect soundtrack so I really wanted to make a vid that combined them. I listened to the soundtrack a million times but my top two choices were Can't Stop and Young and Beautiful and neither captured everything I wanted to vid. Now the song I ultimately chose has special meaning to me as I listened to it a lot right before I went bar hopping/clubbing in Berlin and then by some coincidence, as I walked into the club that had one of my favorite life experiences ever, it was the first song playing. It was fate...anyways I figured out this was the perfect song for the vid I wanted to make even if it was a bit on the nose because it has the dancing sections I wanted while having plenty of great lyrics, slower sections and ultimate destruction to include all parts of the movie.

I started vidding it right after Christmas (I had clipped a week earlier) and when I actually focused on finishing it, it went pretty quickly. It was a lot of fun to vid faster than I normally did as well as play with all the gorgeous visuals. I did have some tech trouble encoding the vid which made the day before GoLive a lot more rushed than I had planned but I was glad to get it finished and submitted not to mention very happy with the great reception it received. I really wanted to make a 4 minute vid that I could watch to see all the beautiful images and music without having to sit through a long 2 hour+ movie and I'm relieved that I think I managed to pull it off :)

All feedback (including concrit) is much appreciated. Enjoy!

So I saw this movie when it came out and was really impressed at how beautiful it was while telling a moving story about multiple queer characters. I really loved the main character's journey and I was excited to get a chance to vid her when I got matched with [personal profile] livrelibre. I really wanted to find a song by a black woman indie artist like she suggested and after initially thinking Final Round wasn't going to work, I realized it was the right song for what I wanted to show. It was also extra fun when I finally got a chance to meet [personal profile] livrelibre and had to keep my assignment vid secret AGAIN :) I initially tried to vid this in HD 1080p footage on my old laptop but my poor computer couldn't handle it so I figured it was time to buy a new computer and this was the first vid I vidded on my shiny new Macbook Pro. The process was relatively easy for an assignment as the structure wasn't too hard to figure out although working with movie source became a bit hard when I wish I had some more clips for the end. I finished this earlier than usual although a week or so is not saying much, I had most of it done by Christmas. I've been offering Pariah for awhile now and am glad I finally got a chance to vid it!

All feedback (including concrit) is much appreciated. Enjoy!

Dear Festividder,

Thank you for making me a vid in one of my favorite small fandoms! Festivids is one of my favorite things ever and I will be super happy with whatever you decide to make. I'm open to any kind of music no matter how indie or mainstream, angsty or bouncy, romantic or mellow although I do love big dynamic type songs. I love all kinds of vids: character studies, ship vids, gen ensemble vids, meta vids, ALL THE FEELS vids, special effects, I could go on an on. I really just want more vids for any of these fandoms and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

[Current Mood |excited]

Happy October everyone! As I posted on Twitter, I'm really excited about this month because it's my birthday month and I have some super fun stuff planned in store. This coming weekend, I'm going to see Gravity with a friend of mine after we do some hiking and on Sunday I'm going to see Maroon 5 (and Kelly Clarkson) in concert!! Soooo excited as I've fallen in love with Adam Levine after watching him being a hilarious, competitive, adorable dork on The Voice who can't stop flirting and being in love with Blake Shelton. HAVE I MENTIONED THEY ARE SUCH BOYFRIENDS??? Who say things like, "I would never cheat on you Blake?" THAT IS A THING THAT HAPPENED.

Ahem. I'm getting ahead of myself. The weekend after that or rather, pre-weekend on October 9th in the evening I'm driving to Las Vegas to go to Wincon! I'm going to be rooming with some awesome SF people and I'm looking forward to seeing [personal profile] nikibee again along with [personal profile] cee_m and many others! October 11 (friday) is my birthday and there will be fannish panels, hanging out with fannish people, a VIDSHOW (of which I have two vids, one premiering), Once More with Feeling and Rocky Horror Show screenings and hopefully a drunken birthday party full of fangirls. I'm sooooo excited! Plus I'm totally going to ride that roller coaster I saw last time. I am going to be going back early Sunday morning but that's because I have tickets to see the Blind Auditions (ie Adam/Blake FLIRTING NONSTOP) of The Voice with [personal profile] elipie! I can't wait!! Other fun things I'm planning on doing is getting a tattoo on my right ankle. It's my first tattoo as I've wanted one for a long time but could never justify the expense. It's going to be Nala from The Lion King like in my main icon. I figure I've been a fangirl of it for 21 years, I think it's a forever thing plus I've always felt my spirit animal, what I've been in another life, etc is a lioness so it's really important to me. The biggest thing for me is I'm going to go skydiving! It's always been in the top 3 things I want to do in my life since I love flying and want to feel like I am if only briefly. Will probably save it towards the end of the month.

A month ago I had an amazing time Labor Day Weekend getting to hang out with [personal profile] nikibee in the Bay Area. We watched Game of Thrones, Teen Wolf and Parks and Recreation and had a vidparty where we watched Vividcon vids with [personal profile] franzeska (who I had a great talk with!), Alice, Michelle, Dani and I think that's all? It was so much fun! We (Nicole, Alice and Michelle) also went to Oakland Pride and got to see En Vogue in concert and it was so great to get a chance to have some good talks with [personal profile] nikibee all weekend. I also went back to San Francisco near where I used to live and work and got to have lunch with someone from Dev Bootcamp which I also visited and got to talk to the founder who changed my life with letting me go to it. Unfortunately I left my favorite hoodie there and haven't been able to get it back :( I also visited the Berkeley campus which is SO BEAUTIFUL! Probably the prettiest one I've ever seen, it's like half nature reserve. Finally I went to a Haven party [personal profile] franzeska (who else? ;)) was throwing and got to say goodbye for a couple hours before I had to leave to catch my flight. Gotta say Southwest was awesome, they gave me a better seat when I complained I didn't know I had to check in for the return flight. It was a super fun weekend and I'm so glad I went!

Other than that, I've been working a lot. We had a big deadline a few weeks ago before our company presented a website at a conference. Some of the weeks I worked on interesting things and that was fun especially getting to pair with my mentor here but a couple weeks I didn't like what I was working on and kept getting distracted by the internetz at work which was less fun. We did go bowling last week as the conference went awesome and that was really fun! I've also been running more and I paid for a personal trainer so I can actually get a REAL strength training workout and that has helped a LOT with developing some muscles. I've always wanted to do chinups so that's my long term goal. I've been thinking about running a marathon next year as I need a big running goal to get me inspired to run more and I want to beat my last time (5.5 hours) and hopefully have a rain free experience. I've been eating a lot cleaner lately and did lose a little weight but got a little bored with it and regressed last week. No worries though, I varied my diet up and am doing better now. If there's anything I learned in the past it's not to give up and let little backslides trip you up.

The big news is I've decided to quit my job soon and go back to college to finally finish my degree. It's something I've always wanted to do and I've had enough of a taste of the real world working on something I kind of like but not love (even with the nice money benefits!) to want to go back to school and work on finding what I really want to do with my life. I'm going to continue study programming on my own and help code for the AO3 along with working on personal projects I'm hoping will lead to possible job opportunities or at least direction. I'm going to go back to community college for Spring 2014 and I'll be applying in the next two months to UCLA, CSULA and CSULB as a Philosophy major. Yes, Philosophy because I've loved the courses I've taken in it, I've always wanted to learn it and it requires a very low amount of credits so I can graduate fast as I'm aiming for May/June 2015. I'm also planning on volunteering at College Track during the time and maybe seeing if after I graduate I can get a job there or at a similar organization. Or maybe I'll do another programming job to save money/pay off debts, I don't know, we'll see.

Let's see...a couple weeks ago, [personal profile] elipie came over to watch vids, vid and talk with [personal profile] jetpack_monkey and I and it was a lot of fun! I've been trying to go to more meetups lately to meet new people and feel less lonely and so I went to a happy hour and met some cool people DTLA and also went to a hiking group last Saturday where I had some good talks with a couple people. The weekend before that I went hiking with my friend, Jen who has turned out to be one of my closest friends in LA even though she's a bit older than me. She used to be in a rock band but now is learning to program so we hang out a good amount to do that. But we hiked in Griffith Park and had a really long talk about life, fun things in our history and the future which was really great.

I've been missing my mom a lot lately. I didn't fully appreciate that when I felt lonely and couldn't reach any of my friends to talk, I could always call my mom and know she'd be there for me. It's just tough sometimes and earlier in the month I was feeling really lonely. I think of her every day whether in small moments or longer memories and it just hurts a lot. I just really wish she was back again :( Last Sunday was the three month anniversary of her death and it feels so far away and yet so close like I can vividly remember getting the call that she had died. I called my dad the other day and it was good to talk to him and hear he's doing well especially after my brother freaked me out saying he couldn't get a hold of him. I'm still terrified he's going to die, I just heard that statistically spouses are more likely to die after one of them dies so even with my dad's health issues, it's even scarier. I'm really looking forward to going back to see him for the holidays and my cousin and aunt as well, both who've been there for me a lot. I went to a meetup last Saturday with a group that's about women who've lost their mothers and it was really helpful talking to other people like me there. Someone said that the worst part is even if you have other people who help fill the hole your mother left, it's not the same as having MY mother there, she's mine and no one is mine in that way. And that's totally how I feel. It was helpful though and we got to smash plates and mugs to help let out the anger :)

On a happier note, I'm so happy fall TV season in back! I'm watching sooo many shows right now, omg. Monday I have How I Met Your Mother (ahhh THE MOTHER, brb happy crying), The Voice (Adam/Blake are SUCH BOYFRIENDS who flirt constantly, yay Christina and CeeLo being back and I love so many of the contestants already), The Blacklist (reminds me of Alias with Sydney and Jack (and Irina)) and I'm watching Mom purely out of love for Allison Janney who is a goddess. Tuesday I'm giving Agents of Shield a couple more episodes before I give up as I didn't like the characters (minus Coulson) and the plot, Brooklyn 9-9 (I really like it! it's funny and GREAT characters), New Girl (close to letting this one go again), The Minday Project (still sadly only love Mindy) and The Voice again (Blake is not doing an all country team again yay!!). Wednesday is Modern Family (yay gay marriage!) and I'm going to give Super Fun Night a try. Thursday is The Big Bang Theory (still sometimes funny, I love Sheldon but my god the gender issues), OUAT in Wonderland (going to give it a try), Glee (KURT/BLAINE DYING FROM LOVE AND SQUEEEE) and Parks and Recreation (still perfect and still LESLIE IS THE BEST). Sunday is Downton Abbey (I need to catch up actually), Once Upon a Time (MORE SWAN QUEEN, less boys pleeease) and Homeland (didn't really like 301 although I LOVE Carrie still). Lucky 7 is getting cancelled soon but I enjoyed the premise and focus on working class families so I'll continue watching. I didn't like Sleepy Hollow at all so I cut that. Any other good shiows I should watch? I'm currently catching up on Scandal (OLIVIA IS SO AWESOME and I love the addicting plots), Spartacus (deserves its own post but AWESOME!!!) and Twin Peaks (so pretty and I enjoy the plot).

On a happy/sad note, Breaking Bad is over :( But it went out on top! I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Hollywood Cemetery to see the Breaking Bad series finale live with the cast and creators of the show. I went early to get good seats and spent the day reading books (including Clash of Kings! still working on my reread) with blankets and my pillow until [personal profile] elipie showed up and we got to go in. We got good seats near the center but further back because there was a big VIP section for all the industry people who showed up. I went to checkout the RV where Walt and Jesse cooked their first meth and people were getting pictures with it and then AARON PAUL showed up and I quickly got in line but then he left but right near me so I was like 6 ft away from me. I got a picture in the RV though and it was so cool! We saw the Pilot of Breaking Bad (introduced by Aaron Paul being amazing) and then saw the Finale which was AWESOME!!! I'm so happy and fully satisfied with it. Sooo much better than The Sopranos and many other shows that can't stick the ending. I'm looking forward to doing a rewatch of the whole show and hopefully making some vids to it because it still needs ALL THE VIDS!! I read Sepinwall's review like my usual tradition (he helped me get into the show) but not reading any more because I'm sick of the negative stuff. I really loved seeing the cast Q&A after the finale, it was great to see it in person.

I've been working on a Game of Thrones vid that I'm really excited about so I'm looking forward to posting that sometime this month. I need to clear these vids off my plate because Festivids is starting!! I nominated some things and I have some requests but mainly I'm excited about making vids for people because I'll have more time than last year without the OUAT exchange. I already have 7 vids I want to make and I'm really excited to get my assignment and start. Last year was amazing and I'm hoping to have a wonderful experience this year as well.

Oh and I'm going to Europe next month! I can barely think about it, it makes me too excited and happy. Some background: I've been dying to go to Europe since like 2005? Since college started definitely especially London and Paris. It's something I want to do before I die and I've had to cancel every plan I've had to do it because of money but now that's no longer an issue! So Thanksgiving week I'm going to go to London, Paris, Munich (to visit [profile] infiniterain!!!) and Belgium (to visit [personal profile] indybaggins!) and I'm sooo excited to see some of the touristy stuff I've never seen in person. If you're in the area, let me know as I'd love to hang out! It's going to be an epic adventure I'm sure.

Wow that was long. This is what happens when I don't post for a month. I love that people are posting more to DW/LJ and am going to try to do the same, weekly is a good goal for me. I'm gonna see Laura Veirs with [personal profile] beerbad tonight which I'm excited about! A great start to my October :)

So today is Festivids Reveals Day! I can FINALLY STOP LYING and tell everyone the vids I made. This year I made the following vids:

Curiosity: Boy Meets World, Topanga, Topanga/Cory for [livejournal.com profile] elipie (new longer version now available)
Give Me Everything: Parks and Recreation, Leslie and Lady Friends for [personal profile] laurashapiro.
Beautiful in Los Angeles: The LA Complex, Kaldrick for [personal profile] jarrow

Yeah, I watched 7 seasons of Boy Meets World for [livejournal.com profile] elipie and had to keep it secret for months! It was haaaard. I have a NEW version of my Boy Meets World vid, Curiosity up at the link that actually features all seven seasons of Topanga and not just the first threee seasons that were in the GoLive version. Both versions are available for download at the link. Turns out it is hard to keep secrets from someone you vid with and I didn't tell anyone but my roommates in order to make sure no one else had to keep a secret as well.

I also had a lot of fun (tech problems aside) making my Women of Parks and Recreation vid featuring my favorite character of all time (recently crowned), Leslie Knope. It basically gave me a chance to vid ALL THE WOMEN on the show and show how much I love the way Leslie loves her lady friends. It was hard to keep from making the five other Leslie Knope vids I wanted to make showcasing different parts of her personality though (Leslie/Waffles OTP!). The vid is totally my happy place, watching so many things I love about the show. I was very overwhelmed and happy by the reaction to this vid, thank you to everyone for the comments and recs!

In the last two weeks before GoLive, I made an LA Complex vid which I was sure everyone would guess because it's called BEAUTIFUL IN LOS ANGELES and features things very relevant to my interests. But only [personal profile] par_avion got it in chat so at least I wasn't completely obvious. Vidding those LA shots were SO much fun!

A big huge thanks to [personal profile] alba17 who made my Homeland vid, Breathing Underwater!!

This Festivids was probably my favorite in terms of vidding and hanging out with RL vid friends, making vids I love for people I care about and sources I love, hanging out in vid chat through deadlines and golive/reveals, getting a great vid for a source I love and the positive reaction I received for my vids. Festivids is just such an amazing idea and event and I am SO thankful for everyone involved. Highlight of the year!

So I did say I was going to do this and I meant it. First time I'm doing this meme! Hopefully it'll be annual after this.

End of the Year Vidding Meme 2012 )

Last Saturday was Festivids Go Live! I got a Homeland vid!!! Breathing Underwater is a S1 vid about Carrie and Brody, their similarities and issues and journey together. It gave me SO MANY FEELS and the song choice is just perfect for exploring their emotional struggles together. I loved the use of POVs and the kinetic energy throughout. It made my Festivids so amazing to get such a great vid :D

I'll have a recs list at some point but for now here's my favorite vid besides my own that blew me away: Smoke and Mirrors. It's a Mad Men vid that explores so many of the deeper themes of the show and is just brilliant in the deeper things it says. The song choice is perfect, it gives me ALL THE FEELS and it's just the vid I wish I could make. When I'm clapping and cheering and HOLY SHITTING at the end of it, you know you've won me over.

If you haven't seen any of the Festivids (or just a few), be sure to check out the masterlist and see and comment on all the vids! There's over 100 small fandoms represented there and the vids are awesome!

So I really wanted to make a Kaldrick vid and [personal profile] jarrow really wanted a Kaldrick vid so this was the perfect Festivids fit. Except I needed to find a song. I wanted to find a hip hop song or a Frank Ocean mashup to a hip hop song but I couldn't find anything. So I was listening to some music on my iPhone when I heard Beautiful in LA which I immediately pegged as a LA Complex vidsong. Upon repeated listening, I realized it actually fit perfectly for Kaldrick even if the music wasn't quite *him*. I put off listening to the song once I got my assignment because I wanted to vid it so much but after golive and vidchat, I was inspired and started working on making it as a treat even if I was unsure about time. Thankfully it vidded itself and most of it was done in vidfarr. It was SO much fun to vid the LA shots (which combined with the song seemed a dead giveaway guesswise) Kaaaaldrick and his feeelings.

I finished my Festivid! So happy. Now for a treat which I'm super excited about. It's been fun in vid chat and I've been super motivated to vid. Unfortunately I keep having tech troubles, not only did my external hard drive crash, my iPhone cracked, I had trouble putting my Festivid back together and now my Mac hard drive is acting up. Will the tech problems ever end??? Ugh. But yay Festivids! I can't wait for reveals.

So as soon as I finished watching Pitch Perfect in the theater, I knew I wanted to vid the last mashup which was just epically awesome. While driving to Denver, I was listening to it and trying to place it to a fandom. I was looking for a Happy Endings song so I tried that and when that didn't work, I tried Parks and Recreation. SUCCESS! It fit perfectly and my excitement was only increased by knowing that Laura loves vids about ALL THE WOMEN and acapella. So when I got Eli as my assignment and had to pick a coverup, I chose this one, in part because I have another Parks vid planned and needed something to get me to clip it. In hindsight...maybe a bad idea with the 12 seasons of clipping to do (combining my assignment vid) but it did work as a motivator and I'm really happy I made this vid. There was a lot of tech problems making it as my external hard drive died and I had to rerip the DVDs and reindex them (they were in a weird order), then my Mac drive that was the new place for my DVDs died (twice) and finally I bought a new cheap drive and transfered the files from the backup drive ([profile] jetpackmonkey was a lifesaver here). Not to mention finding out I indexed the DVDs wrong so that they were in 29.97 FPS and not 23.976 and so I had to reindex everything.

Other than that though and clipping taking forever, this was so much fun to make! I rewatched the entire series and laughed so much and fell in love with Leslie Knope about 240928190 more times. Seriously, you do not want to know the number of times I proposed to her. I can't help but ship her with everyone although I admit it was very hard to get through the Leslie/Jennifer scenes without bursting into flames from the hotness. I loved getting a chance to focus on all the women's relationships with Leslie and with each other although I quickly realized there was way too much footage to fit into such a small song.

New vid: Curiosity (Boy Meets World) [Jan. 5th, 2013|02:00 am]

[Current Mood |amused]
[xpost |http://anoel.livejournal.com/145658.html]

So I never get matched up with the people I expect for Festivids so I was all, well there's no way I'll get matched up with Eli...so I get matched up with Eli. YEP ELI WAS MY ASSIGNMENT! I wake up Festivids morning to [livejournal.com profile] elipie's text that assignments were out and I check mine to see that mine was [livejournal.com profile] elipie. OF COURSE. I burst out laughing cause I did not see it coming and had no prepared assignment. Thus began a Festivid full of LIES. So I basically couldn't work on my actual assignment on the many weekends I vidded together with [livejournal.com profile] elipie (and sometimes [personal profile] rhoboat). I got matched on Breaking Bad and I had two ideas for that, both to pop songs and one to One Direction. I had a lot of it clipped so I figured it wouldn't be too hard. I started trying to vid it...nothing. I just was not feeling it. So I started looking at some of the other sources, all of which I could possibly do. I even had vague notions of pulling a [personal profile] franzeska and vidding ALL of the sources. Haha no, I'm not that crazy and I didn't have the time. Now hanging out with Eli taught me two things: she REALLY expected a Breaking Bad vid and she reeeally wanted a Boy Meets World vid and she DID NOT EXPECT IT AT ALL. Me: Challenge Accepted.

So I saw a few episodes of Boy Meets World in my youth and liked it but hadn't seen it in forever. When I watched it in high school, I remembered slashing Cory/Shawn (and Eric/Jack but less) so if the vid was for me, that's what I would be making (and in watching this, let me just say: THEY ARE SUCH BOYFRIENDS!!!! OMG). But Eli wanted: Oh my god, TOPANGA. TOPANGA/COREY. TOPANGA/STUDIES. TOPANGA/LIFE. I just love her to death. I would basically either really like a character study of her or a vid kind of telling the story of her relationship with Corey (which I know is daunting, but if not during Festivids, when else can I beg for something like this to be made for me?). So I decided to do both because I do aim to please :) I found a song, Curiosity by Carly Rae Jepsen which pinged me for Topanga and I thought would be perfect for a Topanga/Studies vid...until I kept listening to it and I realized that this vid wanted to be a Topanga/Cory vid too. Okay then. Also with the announcement of Girl Meets World, I figured I had to watch it all so I could check out the show and really understand the history of it. If not now, then I'd probably never do it.

I started watching the show and realized clipping it was going to be a very long process. I may have...not started doing it til the second week of December (thanks in part to the OUAT exchange) which turned out not to be the best decision although in my defense I was still set on doing Breaking Bad until then. It was a lot of fun to watch the show and see the growth of the characters and start having feels for all of them (Eric is KING of Surprise!Crying FEELS with a side of Issues!Shawn). The show does have its problems (heteronormativity, gender role issues and the like) but it was still very cute. Topanga turned out to be much awesomer than I remembered although there was not nearly as much clips of Topanga/Books as I had hoped. And I had fun squeeing about Cory/Shawn's BOYFRIEND love. Even Topanga/Cory managed to win me over with the cuteness especially in those last clips in the short version of this vid. Which yeah, I was only able to finish about three seasons of clipping and vidding and 2 minutes of the song before the deadline especially with my pretend assignment taking a lot of my time. But I was hoping to replace the vid with the full version during the treat time...which did not happen thanks to tech problems and vid farr on another treat.

So then I promised myself I would make the full thing during the time between golive and reveals. It took me 5 days to start but I finally got around to finishing it. I already had S4 clipped so that meant watching the last episodes of S5 and then watching S6 and S7. Not too hard, I told myself...with work, relaxing on the weekend and slow vidding, it came down to the last few days. Basically I watched S6 and S7 in the last three days, taking the bus to work so I could watch more and taking clip notes to make clipping easier and fast. The vidding actually came along pretty easy although I struggled with my usual problem of trying to shove ALL the clips on the timeline and not giving them some room to breathe. Still working on that. But I did manage to watch all seven seasons of Boy Meets World and make a Topanga vid of it so I'm ultimately happy with this Festivids.

So here are both versions of Curiosity, GoLive and Reveals day. I hope it was a fun nostalgic trip through memory lane :) And P.S: if you want to be reminded about Boy Meets World without watching seven seasons, try the last two episodes as there's some clip show mixed in with a lot of great clips (ALSO FEELS). Also LYING TO YOUR VIDDING BUDDY IS TERRIBLE AND I HATE IT! It was haaaaard especially a big secret like that. Thanks to my roomies for putting up with me talking about it because they were the only people I told in the interest of super secret keeping.

So...Once Upon a Time happened.

Spoilers for Once Upon a Time 209 )

In other news, I am watching The Walking Dead (just started S3) and that's been...mildly entertaining. I enjoy the concept and the cinematography and some of the plot but man it's hard to love most of the characters. And there is an extreme lack of badass, gun wielding women which is a damn shame cause the show is perfect for it. It's gotten a bit better at least. Also I started watching Legend of the Seek S2 with [personal profile] beerbad and I am enjoying it a lot. Cara!!!!!!!! She's amaaaaazing, just my type. And shipping Cara/Kahlan of course. That will be my replacement OUAT during the looong hiatus (haha I've survived worse).

Been working on my Once Upon a Time Holiday Exchange gift this month so mostly just gotten some clipping done for Festivids. I can't believe it's December already! Where has this year gone? I'm going back to NY for Christmas and if I can survive the snow, it'll be great seeing my cats, family and friends there again. Will be going to New Hampshire after Christmas to a friend's cabin so I'll do some skiing which I haven't done in awhile. I'll miss LA though, it's so nice here, all the holiday stuff without the cold. Here in LA, we had a chance to show [profile] cherryice around LA and to a vid party and it was a lot of fun! Even if the zoo didn't have lions that day (FAIL :() at least we saw the tigers being playful and cute!

The kittens have gotten much bigger and they are SUPER cute <3 I love them soooo much!

So I'm doing this? What can I say, I'm obsessed with Swan Queen and it's messed up my mind. I haven't done a holiday exchange in forever...since before Festivids at least. I wouldn't do this except I have a lot clipped so it shouldn't be too hard and I reeeeally want fic. One of the bummers about Festivids is you can't get fic in exchange for vids and why I will never stop hoping for Yuletide to combine with Festivids one year.

So if you like OUAT, join me! I am currently earworming a song I'd looove to make for Regina/Emma (like I need more but hey) and omg my shipper heart is exploding with squee. HOW ARE THEY SO PERFECT TOGETHER??? I can't even deal with it. Squee in the comments with me please?

So I got my assignement and I am SO EXCITED!!! I already have a song and I can't wait to begin :D :D :D It's weird to start vidding the morning of right? All of a sudden I am forgetting all my other obligations and all I can think is VID VID VID FESTIVIDS VID. I am determined to not wait til the last minute this year. Not going to happen!

Also I got home from Denver a few days ago and I had a great time! It was so beautiful there with the mountains and leaves and trees and everything. I loved Boulder a lot too, it was so cute and the U of Colorado campus was beautiful. It was fun hanging out with [profile] asuka14 and it was great to explore a new place on my birthday weekend. I want to go back sometime and do ALL the nature/adventure stuff like white water rafting and hiking and such. But NOT driving because while it was fun sometimes with music and good podfic, driving all day sucks. Especially when your tire literally falls off in the middle of Utah, NOT FUN. It was scary to find a place open on Sunday with limited money but I managed and I got home alright. SO happy to be home in LA with warm weather and my beautiful Downtown LA and KITTENS! They are currently cuddling with me and it is toooo cute. They got so big when I was gone.

Also SUPER EXCITE about Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosting the Golden Globes. DREAMS COMING TRUE!!! I will probably die in advance just to warn everyone.

LETS DO THIS VID!

[xpost |http://anoel.livejournal.com/142654.html]

So today I turned 25. It's weird to think I've lived a quarter of a century, hopefully a quarter of my life. As much as I make fun of myself saying "oh no, I'm going to have a quarterlife crisis", I'm really in a pretty good place right now and I don't feel that way for the most part. I thought my life would be different when I was younger by now but life never turns out how you expect and I'm grateful for what I have. While driving to Colorado yesterday, the song, "The Scientist" by Coldplay came on and it made me reflect on each year of my life and everything that happened that led me there. It was very interesting to think about. I was especially grateful for all the wonderful moments spent with friends who've I've learned to appreciate over the years in so many ways. Mostly I'm really excited because I think the next five years (and more!) will hopefully be some of the best of my life and I look forward to seeing what the future brings.

I got into Denver early today and picked up [profile] asuka14 from the airport. Unfortunately that turned into a bad experience (whoever designed the arrival layout is HORRIBLE) with some officer harrassing me but in the end it turned out alright and I was able to take a brief nap before we headed out to see Downtown Denver. I really loved the 16th Street Mall there, reminded me of San Francisco and DC with a unique Denver flavor to it. We had a delicious lunch and then walked around exploring things. Home (well at the hotel) now to watch some TV and eat cake and SLEEP FOREVER. Looking forward to seeing Boulder as well and doing some more exploring. It's just nice to get away and I had a lot of fun listening to music on the ride down and brainstorming Festivid ideas (I have one I'm sooo excited about).

Anyways I'm having a great time and looking forward to making the year I turn 25 the best yet!

Dear Festividder,

YAY you're making a vid for me! Thank you sooo much and I'm so excited to see what you make. I have no doubt it'll be absolutely fabulous and make me extremely happy, I can't even think about it without smiling already. I'm madly in love with all these fandoms so anything you make is sure to win my heart so don't sweat the details. I'm open to any kind of music no matter how indie or mainstream, angsty or bouncy, romantic or mellow although I do love big dynamic type songs (see Mumford and Sons). Go with where your heart and mind wants to go with it, anywhere you want. Vid what you love :)

Thank you again dear festividder and I hope you have lots of fun making a vid for me! You are the BEST!

So I'm trying to get into this posting more regularly on DW/LJ thing. I've always felt bad that I didn't post more regularly about the shows I was watching and now I've discovered the solution-Tumblr, all the pretty without most of the work as the tags allow me to express myself simply. However there are a few shows I have more in depth thoughts on or don't want to spoil people too much about so I'm going to post more small posts here. We'll see how it goes.

First off, Homeland. Wow. If you aren't watching this show, WATCH IT! The latest episode pulled off the most shocking twist for me ever and I cannot get over what an amazing character Carrie is (not to mention the brilliant Claire Danes acting). Seriously, it is SO WORTH IT.

Spoilers for Homeland 202 )

Then there is Once Upon a Time...I've expressed myself through Tumblr mostly but there are some more things I want to talk about.

Spoilers for Once Upon a Time 202 )

So I'm off roadtripping to Denver on Wednesday! If anyone in the Denver/Colorado area wants to hang out for a bit, let me know. I shall be there for my birthday on Thursday and then I leave Sunday. I can't wait to hang out more with [profile] asuka14! If anyone has music recs, let me know as I need to find some good Festivid songs. Which speaking of, I am almost done with my Dear Festividder letter and I'm super excited about it. I have one more request to make up my mind about 100% if I'm doing it before I post it. I'm still under the impression I'm going to make ALL THE TREATS but we'll see how productive I really am. And hanging out in vidder chat (#vidding in IRC) is super fun for any talk about vidding.

So here is the treat vid I made for [community profile] festivids this year. I had seen Top Chef S1 a few years back and picked up on the slash between Harold/Stephen towards the middle and enjoyed it towards the end. I was in the mood to watch the show again and thought it might be fun to make a treat vid so I started rewatching and was amazed to find they were slashy together from the first episode. It reminded me of the fun of slash, finding all those tiny moments that most would gloss over and seeing more. And of course I randomly heard this song on Pandora and it pinged me as a vid for them and then wouldn't leave me alone. So I clipped it all and then vidded it in the last couple days before the deadline. It was so much fun! I love them and if you haven't seen this season yet (or any Top Chef), I encourage you to do so! It's a good season full of great food and some enjoyable drama.

Onto the vid...

Random Coincidences [Jan. 28th, 2012|06:39 pm]

[Current Mood |happy]

So I'm in San Francisco! I was planning on taking the PCH yesterday but due to some setbacks, I decided to take the shortest route since I was leaving late. Did not turn out to be the greatest day but I'm happy now that I'm here. I'm staying in the Union Square area and I love it! So many great stores, buildings and culture. I love all the people and just the excitement in this kind of city atmosphere. I went to the place where I'll be learning/working and it looks really cool! Saw some presentations on web design which was interesting. I will say I thought parking was bad in Downtown LA/West Hollywood/Santa Monica but it is NOTHING compared to this area of San Francisco. The rates are ridiculous.

On the way back, I decided to take a different street than the normal route to see some different sights. I look up and see an ad for Whose Live and smile a little at seeing Ryan and the guys. I turn the corner and see a sign that says Drew Carey's Improv-a-ganza is performing...(check my iPhone for the date) TONIGHT. So yeah, I bought the last remaining ticket in the good section for a decent price and I'm going to see Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Chip Esten, Jeff Davis and Drew Carey tonight. So excited! I miss the show and hearing about my friends on the East Coast getting to see it made me sad I wouldn't get to see it with them so this helps a little. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet them again :) If only Colin was there....hee. On that note, I do have a new Ryan/Colin vid idea I'd really love to do this year. Probably going to be a long process so maybe this will inspire me to start working on clipping the crazy amounts of source there is. It just boggles my mind that if I hadn't walked that road tonight I would never be going to the show.

Fandom-wise I am WAY behind on watching Festivids (due to vidding and RL). However I got lucky this year and got two great vids! One is a Wire vid for OMAR!!! So beyond my wildest dreams. The vid is called Soul Survivor and it's a great character study with a lot of wonderful clip-lyric matches that broke my heart. Omar = awesome. I also got an Entourage vid for the boys! It's a cute and fun vid, I Get Knocked Down set to one of my favorite songs. I'm only going to rec one vid but it's my favorite vid of the ones not made for me and it's PERFECT. It's called Fly and it's a Parks and Rec vid for Leslie Knope. And WOW does it do her justice. The song is PERFECT for her (and has finally gotten me to like Nicki Minaj which I now wholeheartedly do) and the vid made me cry-the happy tears. It shows how hard she works as well as showing her fun, lighthearted side. It's hard to find words for it-it's that kind of vid and also the kind I watched like 100 times. Go watch it and you'll see why you should watch the show! There's almost 200 vids at Festivids for lots of rare fandoms so go check out the masterlist and check them out <a href="http://fv-poster.dreamwidth.org/116381.html</a>here</a>. I made two vids so go ahead and try to guess me although I'm swamped with vids to make so I can't make any prizes for guessing this year. Other than that, still watching some TV shows and movies when I can. The latest episode of Parks & Recreation was AMAZING and gives another reason why this is the best show on TV right now (yeah, I said it). I will never understand how this show can make me roar with laughter and yet have the sweetest and most heart filled moments. I just love all the characters SO MUCH. Also glad 30 Rock is back and love The Big Bang Theory which has gotten funnier the last few episodes (although I still hate Leonard/Penny). Glad Glee is back although it needs to stop these two week hiatuses. Super excited about a certain guest star coming on the show! Also been watching Miranda (for a festivid) and I love it! It took a little while to get used to with the whole talking to the camera and physical humor but I love all the characters and it makes me laugh/smile so I'm enjoying it. I love Miranda, I love that she's so honest about who she is and just has fun with life. It's great. Gary is also SUPER cute and I totally ship Miranda/Gary especially after the last episode in S1 which made me cry a bit. The physical humor is still a bit much for me but it's a cute show. Need to get ready for the show now but I'm excited about the adventure to come. I'm already getting to know all the streets around here VERY well.

[Current Music |glee songs]

So Festivids was awesome! SO many amazing vids (174!) and so many different fandoms and lots of great vid chat nights. I made Let It Be (Mad Men, Don/Peggy) and In the Sun (Huge, Becca) way too close to the deadline but they somehow made it in. Next time I have swore to myself I will get them down early as it'll make the process go SO much better. But I vidded two things I've really wanted to vid and I'm happy with both of them so I'm happy. Now onto the recs of my favorite vids for this year's Festivids. There are a LOT of great vids made so these are just my favorites that I connected with the most.

First, I received My Life Would Suck Without You a wonderful Modern Family, Cam/Mitchell vid that I ADORE to pieces. It shows all the ways that they're the cutest couple ever and how they love each other and CASABLANCA. I love it so much!

Serpent Charmer - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford: This was the perfect recruiter vid and completely convinces me of the beauty of the movie and the super slashiness of the relationship.
TV taught me how to feel - Community: Abed! Abed is my favorite thing about Community and this vid captures so much of what I love about him. The song is PERFECT for him and one of my favorite sings and the title really just says it all.
Float On - Finding Nemo This is the perfect Dory vid, full of fun, a great cover and continued joy throughout.
Tadzio, Tadzio - The History Boys: This vid made me finally watch The History Boys which has been on my list for a long time and THANK GOD I did because it was awesome and much gayer than I thought. This vid combines almost all of my favorite parts of it with lots of Dakin/Irwin goodness along with Posner being his wonderful self. I could watch this over and over to get a dose of all the good stuff I loved about the movie.
Friends - How I Met Your Mother: This is like the perfect friendship, OT5 vid that is just so funny and dead on with the representation of the gang. And the lyrics are perfect!
They Want More: Dinosaurs! So much dinosaur love in this and the lyrics could not work more perfectly.
End of the World - Life After People: The end of the world was never more awesome! This is just fun and fast and so very, very cool. No need to know the fandom, just watch!
Samsa Morning - Lost in Austen: This vid has the most PERFECT song choice ever. The end is so freaking true. Freaking Darcy, man. Even if you've never seen this mini-series before, especially if you're a Pride and Prejudice lover, WATCH THIS.
The Rules of Parenting - Modern Family: This is a hilarious vid full of everything I love about the show! So much joy and cuteness and filled with hilarious quotes that work perfectly in the vid. Makes me laugh so much (just like the show)!
Skinny Genes - Rizzoli and Isles: This vid is like the epitome of shippiness and cuteness. PERFECT song choice, great matching of music and visuals and lots and lots of femslash. I definitely am convinced to try out the show!
Dance in the Dark - Lady GaGa RPF: Lady GaGa, nuff said right? This is a great exploration of her and all her music videos and I'm never one to resist her magic.
Jaded - Velvet Goldmine: This vid is SO amazing with a perfect song choice that says so much about the movie and the main characters in it. Definitely a vid I'll be rewatching a lot.
What About Love: This vid is just SO PRETTY that it cannot be expressed in words. Rob Lowe is at his prettiest here and this is one of the slashiest things I have ever seen in my life. It's got a great story to it and lots of hockey if you're into that and it's just epically over the top goodness. MUST see this movie.

Lots of good TV this week! First there was the Superbowl (let's not talk about that, too depressing) and GLEE which is finally back. I thought the episode wasn't epic enough (or had enough great music) for a post-Superbowl episode but I enjoyed it and as usual Darren Criss was amaaaazing doing his thing. Then there was ANOTHER Glee on Tuesday (I like this every other day Glee schedule SO MUCH) which I loved SO MUCH. All I gotta say is MARRY ME BLAINE...so in love with him. He takes dreaminess to a whole nother level. And courage :) So inspiring. And Puck and Mike brought the hotness too, just guhhhh. And the end was PERFECT with the love and romance and KURT and all of them being there. Oh, Kurt <3 (Also am I the only one suddenly shipping Sam and Santana now? SO MANY PAIRINGS)

Then Modern Family was funny and awesome! Cam/Mitchell could not get any cuter. However, The Office decided it would get amazing all of a sudden. Wow. I had heard this episode was like a S2 episode and man, did it deliver. It made me laugh so much and then sucker punched me when I least expected it and made me cry. It was just really well written and had that wonderful family vibe that I love about it. Parks & Recreation has been good too although mostly I'm madly in love with Chris. He's just this bright ray of sunshine and I'm SO IN LOVE with him. Rob Lowe just excels with bringing the innocence. I'm also loving Shameless which is just so funny and awesome. What I love about it is among so many shows about rich, privileged people is this show about a family just trying to pay the bills and buy food and going through any means to do it. It's fun and I love everyone especially Ian who is the cutest ever. Basically, I'm behind on my TV watching goals right now (no time) but of the stuff I am watching, it's great so at least there's that.

Here is the second vid I made for [community profile] festivids this year. I really wanted to make a Huge vid that might recruit some more people to try the show or at least see a little of it's awesomeness and I hope this vid might convert a few people. When I first started watching the show, I thought Will would be my favorite character-and she was for awhile. But then it became Becca who reminds me so much of myself at least back when I was 9-12 or so. So I had to make a vid for her and thankfully found the perfect song through Genius on my iPod that captured exactly what I wanted to show.

Happy More Joy Day everyone! I do not have anything special planned but I thought I'd write down a few things lately that have been bringing me joy.

I finished my Festivid! This is huge because it was a big burden on me but after many, many hours of frenzied vidding I finished it before the deadline :D And I really like what I made as well. Great way to start off the vidding year. I want to try to make a treat this year as well although I'm currently trying to finish my Escapade vid (deadline is January 15 if anyone else is working on a vid!) so we'll see what happens.

That being said, I'm going to Escapade! Really excited about being around other fans, both slash and vidding ones. Who else is going? I figured I couldn't not go, me being so close (yay LA!) and all. I am looking for roommates so if anyone needs another person, I am happy to share costs.

I also signed up for the LA marathon and I'm really excited to do it. I've been running pretty consistently the last month or so (rain not included) and I definitely think I can do it by March. I did my first real long run on Tuesday and ran 13 miles! So basically a half marathon so I was psyched was able to do it and run most of it. The great part is I'm running through LA where I can see all the great landmarks from Dodger Stadium to the Santa Monica Pier so that'll make it much more fun. It is also SO nice being able to run in 60s and today, 70 degree weather!

I am making small progress on most of my goals and I thought I'd share two websites that are helping me. The first is, Mindbloom that lets you put actions you want to take either daily or whatever timeframe you want and let's you check them off everytime you do them which gets you more points and grows your "tree". You can take it as seriously as you want, I just like that it keeps me accountable and it's fun to check things off. If you join, let me know your email (or use mine while signing up) so I can add you as a friend! The other is Mint which is an easy way to keep track of finances as it collects all the financial accounts you have (securely) and automatically keeps track of all debit/credit transactions and enters them in your budget. I love things that help you and save me time and work so I think it's great and it's helping keep track of things.

Work is going pretty good as I'm still enjoying the marketing meetings and now planning the crew party which is going to be AWESOME with lots of giveaways. Plus I'm going to go out clubbing with some people at work next week so that should be fun. I'm also finally getting a cafe shift so I'm really happy about that. I watched The Fighter the other day and as expected, it wasn't my thing nor did I think it was that Oscar worthy compared to my favorite but it was good at least and Melissa Leo was amazing and almost unrecognizable from Toni on Treme.

I'm also happy that my TV shows are starting to come back! Modern Family was funny last night especially the Cam/Mitchell parts (how are they so cute???) and I'm dying for more Glee after the Superbowl. Also I enjoyed the premiere of Shameless which was pretty funny and unsurprisingly loved Ian (and am shipping him with both Kash and Lip gah) so looking forward to more of that. And of course this picture is bringing me a lot of joy:

How are they so cute and in looooove?

[Current Mood |jubilant]

Merry Christmas! Last night I stayed up late to watch the Yuletide stories go live and it was so much fun! Good to talk with people and feel that excitement everywhere and then FINALLY get the YES from isityuletideyet.com. And there are Wire fics which I always think are made for me. It may take ten years but someday we will have a decent collection of The Wire fanfic. My favorite one so far is Fine Dining in Baltimore which is both funny and sad which is The Wire pretty well. So much good stuff there though and there is also Social Network, Treme, Mad Men and many many more that I am dying to read.

The best part about Yuletide is that it is inspiring me to work on my Festivid which is much needed. I can't wait til Festivids golive begins and we can all get excited about all the VIDS and I want to make at least one vid to be part of that. So I will somehow find a way to make it happen.

In the spirit of the holiday, this great story brought me to tears: A Blogger Christmas Miracle wherein people spontaneously help people in need. That is what Christmas is all about to me, giving, joy, kindness and helping to make the whole world better.

In honor of Christmas today (and the holidays in general), I am offering up at least five Social Network vids of at least thirty seconds (could be more-in fact it probably will be) for the first five people to comment with a song you want to see vidded to the movie. I will put a deadline on those of February 1st. However if there is more interest, I will try my best to make more than five although I can't guarantee if or when they will be done. I was going to limit it to Mark/Eduardo (or any pairing in the Mark/Eduardo/Sean threesome) but in watching the movie many times I've realized I love everyone so I'm opening it up to anything.

Been vidding lately although not as much as I've wanted to but it's definitely fun to vid Mark/Eduardo! The next month will be full of vidding but that's just the way I like it.

I am loving being in sunny LA with plenty of warmth and NO snow. That's how I like my Christmas, thank you very much. Happy Holidays everyone!

[Current Music |Glee 206 song]

Well I really needed a Glee episode to make me ridiculously happy and oh man, did it ever deliver.

Spoilers for Glee 206 )

Sooo life. Well it's basically been the week from hell for many, many reasons. I worked 6 days in a row of 7-8 hour shifts including working in super busy concessions for the grand opening where I had never worked before at our theater. So that was basically a nightmare including messing up a refund and having my computer freezing three times in a row. The worst part as been there've been a lot of evening shifts where I can't take the subway home (stupid LA subways don't run at night which I haaate) so I've either had to wait til 4 am when they work again and deal with freezing cold weather or run/walk to the closest 24 hour bus, 30-50 minutes away wherein it was an hour late (b/c of a USC football game, thanks guys) and THEN had a bus be late and miss my transfer so I had to wait ANOTHER hour for the next bus. My hate for buses and cold is pretty epic right now. Basically all I've been doing is going to work, commuting home (with TV on my iPod when I can) and then trying to fit in as much as I can.

So I haven't had any time for fandom or anything to myself which is NOT good for my mental health. I've been feeling so lonely lately for both deep friendship (friendly chats with coworkers just isn't enough) and a romantic relationship and it's bumming me out a lot. Thankfully I have Thursday off too so I'll have more time to catch up. I also get paid then which I'm planning on spending on rent for a new place much closer to where I work. I just can't go through the commute any longer so that's keeping me going when life gets really bad. Among other things which is a topic for another long post I've been meaning to write for awhile.

It's funny, I know I've always been not much into movies mostly because of time issues (with watching so much TV) and how it can be hard to get into them and then not get enough time with the characters but working at a movie theater as made me see the appeal/enjoy them more. Mostly I just love the theater experience. So far I have seen Red (enjoyed it mostly for the Helen Mirren parts and small flashes to Jack/Irina), For Colored Girls (liked it but it didn't quite work for me-stunned that people took young kids to it) and Due Date (enjoyed it a lot for the funniness and the hotness of RDJ). Dyyying to see Harry Potter this weekend, I've ignored all the previews so I won't be spoiled for anything and I'm coming into it with low expectations for it having my favorite part in it (dealing with a certain flashback/past ship) after my last bad 5th movie experience. But hopefully it'll be good!

Haven't had nearly enough time for clipping my Festivid but I am getting some time in when I can. The good news is I found a song for my last remaining treat I really want to do after searching for an hour. I had a couple of good songs in either lyrics or sound but with the helpful iPod Genius function, I was able to find a random song I had buried away somewhere that's EXACTLY what I was looking for on both counts. So excited about that although it's killing me to not be able to talk about what I've been watching. Yay Festivids!

OMG I GOT MY FESTIVIDS ASSIGNMENT!!!! It is perfect, I am on top of the world. I seem to always get lucky here. I have a million ideas on what to vid (I feel like Rachel in the Lady GaGa episode, *brainstorming, brainstorming*) and am SO excited about all of them. I definitely can get this done and I am really happy about getting to vid this fandom. It feels like destiny, I really just needed a big push to vid this and this assignment is IT. And I have an idea of where to look for songs so that hopefully will not be too much of a problem. Mostly Festivids finally seems REAL and I am anxious to start vidding which I can totally do because it's my day off :) So much luck going on right now.

Don't forget to join Festivids chat to squee about Festivids and talk about vidding and such. Just join the #vidding channel for IRC!

The only bad part is I have a MILLION vid ideas I want to work on as I also want to do some treats for Festivids not to mention all my Glee ideas. If anyone has any ideas on how to balance work, social/other goals and vidding, I'd LOVE to hear them as I am struggling right now with time management in terms of how much time to spend on vidding versus other stuff I need to get done. I just want to vid so many things!

Festivids, YAY!

Dear Festividder,

THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME A VID! I chose these fandoms because any vid to them would make me ridiculously happy as I love all of these shows (Little Miss Sunshine should be a show!), the whole thing not just a small part. So vid whatever you like. Same goes for music. For me, this is about the FANDOM much more than the music and even if I detested the music (which would be hard to do), I honestly would not care because it'd still be a vid in one of my fandoms made for me. So do NOT worry about that or how good your vid is or anything like that because there is no pressure whatsoever. I'm easy, really.

I love all kinds of vidding styles as I'm a huge fan of vidding itself and that is why I love it so much. I love character studies, shipper vids, friendship/enemy/relationship vids, slow vids, funny vids, ensemble vids, crack vids, dance vids, LKBVs, meta vids, sappy vids, effects filled vids, effectsless vids, super fast vids, sexy vids, motion filled vids, political statement vids, vids with lots of colors, vids that makes me cry, avant garde vids, recruiter vids (ALL these fandoms need them!), old style slash vids, action vids, shiny vids and most of all vids that the vidder clearly puts ALL their love into it. I do especially love vids that provoke an emotional reaction but for me aesthetically beautiful vids and deep thinky vids are enough TO make me feel emotional. Another thing I like is character vids that explore a character through a relationship but if that doesn't apply, no worries. I love slash, het, gen, femslash, three/moresomes, and I'm totally cool with any kind of violence/sex (I think my fandoms make this clear). Use of outside source is great if it applies to your idea, go for it!

I love SO many kinds of music. Even in genres I don't mention, I probably like some songs in them and I enjoy hearing new kinds of music so don't worry about that. I know I wrote down some genre and artist suggestions in my requests and feel free to ignore any of that. Here though is a longer list of music genres I am open to and artists that I've loved songs to in case you want any more guidance. However, I LOVE finding new music and learning about artists I've never heard before so feel free to use something in your own library or Pandora one of these artists or use something that's played on the show. And don't worry about if the music matches up perfectly with the fandom in terms of style, lyrics, etc, I mean that's great but as long as it works for your vid idea, it fine with me.

Genres: Pop, hip-hop, rock, rap, indie pop/rock, alternative, musicals, techno, instrumentals, classical, a capella, folk, blues, J-pop, jazz, big band, punk, pop-country, R&B and lots more.

Artists: Adam Lambert, Adele, Allison Iraheta, The Beatles, Coconut Records, Damnien Rice, David Bowie, Eminem, The Feeling, Flobots, Florence and the Machines, Glee Cast (++), Hawksley Workman, Ingrid Michaelson, Janelle Monae, Jason Mraz, Jay-Z, Kanye West, The Kills, Kris Allen, Lady GaGa, Michael Buble, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Missy Higgins, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, OK Go, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Regina Spektor, Richard Ashcroft, The Roots, Ryan Adams, Stars and Tegan and Sara.

Nominated Fandoms under the cut: Huge, Little Miss Sunshine, Mad Men, Modern Family, Nurse Jackie, Project Runway, Treme, The Wire )

Feel free to ignore all of this. Thank you again for making this and I hope you have a fun time vid creating :) You're the best!

P.S: Treat vids are always welcomed! And man how I wish I had nominated The Rocky Picture Horror Show (for a Dr. Frank n' Furter vid-a little obsessed right now) and The Social Network (for Mark/Eduardo/Sean-super slashy) as I am dying for a vid from either...although I suppose the latter would be hard to get a hold of source for so I suppose it's for the best.
