(no subject)

On the Emmys: Yes, I'm watching. Yes, I still think they're total bullshit. Ignore The Wire on it's FINAL season? Stupid ignorant sluts. So, sure Mad Men will almost certainly win and it's an amazing show but it did not win FAIR. And it does not deserve to win over The Wire. So whathefuckever. I'm just watching to see all my favorite actors and writers and I'll probably be doing other stuff while it's on. It would be very, very nice if Steve would win but I won't be surprised to see him and The Office get robbed again.

On politics: Can someone PLEASE make the election be over? I thought the primaries were bad but this is worse. I hate McCain and Palin (oh god, the CRAZY) and all I want is Obama to win so I can have a little hope in this country and not want to kill myself watching Brothers and Sisters (TV: the only place I can't avoid politics) or actually getting a chance to watch The West Wing. I actually had to leave my History of Women class and plug my ears during half of it because they wouldn't shut up about politics. It fills me with so much rage that I've had to completely unplug from the election for my own sanity and peace of mind. I feel like this country is so going to hell no matter how much I want to believe that the future slowly gets better. The only thing helping me is remembering that no matter what happens, I'll still have the bastion of happiness of fandom not to mention TV, LA and most importantly, friends. This quote from QaF helps too: "So the "thumpa thumpa" continues. It always will. No matter what happens. No matter who's president. As our lady of Disco, the divine Miss Gloria Gaynor has always sung to us: We will survive."

Premiere week is upon us! Almost all my shows will be back during this week. I am still working on catching up on TV after marathoning Sex and the City but I am having a great time watching all the episodes I stored up. Also, found a new show! So this show called Lost in Austen looked fascinating so I gave it a try and loved it! Basically a girl who loves Jane Austen/Pride and Prejudice is transported to that world. Great concept and I adored the Pilot. The main character is very cute and I can't help but love a girl who escapes into books. She reminds me a lot of Gwyn physically but thankfully I like her lots better. Definitely recommend the show to everyone! I actually have never finished Pride and Prejudice, I've read 3/4ths of it twice (better than LotR, I've read the first few chapters like five times) so I'm hoping this will give me more motivation to finally get it finished. In my copious spare time, ha. I am so behind on everything.

On the school front, I like most of my classes so that's good. As expected my two Philosophy classes are my favorites. Sooo fascinating. Ancient Philosopy is incredibly interesting, I love thinking about all that kind of stuff and logic is just so useful and cool to understand. That one I can definitely see being useful with contructing arguments for vids and such. Also plus about my Ancient Philosophy class, the professor is REALLY hot. Like, Mohinder levels hot. Which is why I'm calling him Mohinder especially since the class is on Monday night and I have to speed home to have a chance at watching Heroes. So far they are going well but not too much work so far, thank god.

Loved House last week! I have more thoughts on it but for now, awwww House and Wilson. Make up and make out guys! This is my slogan for this season (really any season). And I even have a pretty House and Wilson kissing wallpaper that makes me happy everytime I look at it. Also, The Office premiering this Thursday! I'm so excited for my favoritest show to be back :D

Damn you I never had a professor as hot as Mohinder. :P

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-22 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well he's not AS hot as Mohinder. But they do look alike!

[identity profile] lianri.livejournal.com 2008-09-22 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I want to see this professor!

We're definitely in stupid season in politics, which makes "news" (quoted because I'm referring to all the shit-slinging that's going on because of the most minor, inconsequential slips of both candidates' tongues- e.g. the lipstick comment) all the more unbearable. (Not that there isn't always a stupid season in politics... it's just especially stupid now).

God, if someone would just ask one of the candidates one! Question! That actually matters! And if either of them would answer in more than just generalities and catchphrases! But there's nothing we can do about the way news works, and so I understand the impulse to just separate yourself from that.

But really, if you hate talking about the issues for some reason, at least do SOMETHING; print out a bunch of voter registration forms and bring them to class and pass them out. A lot of people have been doing that here. What's most important now is that people VOTE!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll see if I can find a picture...

Yeah tell me about it. It's so stupid. I just really don't care anymore.

[identity profile] lianri.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, I love your icon! Where's that from?

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] call_me_daisy made it. He's my Superman :)

[identity profile] iamcrazyodo.livejournal.com 2008-09-22 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously, as always, Steve Carell was, as you so rightly said, robbed of an award.

I'm very sad Hugh lost. I so wanted him to win. :( I don't care what anybody says, House/Wilson IS canon. I'd love to see that wallpaper of yours.

On the topic of politics, it doesn't particularly bother me but then again, I'm not constantly bombarded by all that craziness like you are. After all, we do have our own upcoming federal elections Mid-October. I'm, however, looking forward to all that being over (both elections) as soon as can be. Btw, I love that QaF quote. :D

Glad to see your classes are going well, although I'm quite sure that whoever did the Ancient Philosophy syllabus never realised how helpful they were in helping students make vids. *G*

Hugs.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it sucks. Oh well. And I wish Hugh or Michael C. Hall would win! And yeah, totally canon. The wallpaper is here (http://pics.livejournal.com/cane_crazy/pic/0001eqsq). Believe!

Yeah way too much election crazy talk, your elections sound so much shorter and sane.

It's Logic actually but yes, not a thing I bet they were thinking.

[identity profile] iamcrazyodo.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
(Apologies for the late reply. I seem to say that a lot these days.)

Just wanted to say thanks for the House/Wilson wallpaper. Gorgeous doesn't even begin to describe it. *drools*

I obviously haven't seen the fifth season of The Wire yet, but how did it only get ONE nomination for its final season?

Have any of the cast ever been nominated or won?

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Emmys are stupid? I don't know, I just don't get it when ALL the TV critics love it madly.

Nope. One of the only nominations its ever gotten is writing for the series finale but that's it.

[identity profile] mozartfan1313.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
NONE? None at all for acting? That's total bullshit.

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it. That's the biggest reason why I think the Emmys are mostly BS and unworthy of much respect.

[identity profile] mozartfan1313.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Icon love. Gotta love that Lucille. At least the Emmy's got it right the year AD won!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah and The Office as well. When a show fits there categories AND is brilliant, they can get it but if it doesn't...you're screwed. Mad Men is an amazing show and I think you'd like it too but it's just not as good as The Wire.

[identity profile] caesaria82.livejournal.com 2008-09-22 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I know American politics is like a whole different ballgame, but I personally always quite enjoy elections in my country *lol* I never not vote. I go voting for the tiniest stuff, like regional or city represetatives, but the most exciting ones are the German national elections of course.. always gives me a feeling of really doing my civic duty *lol* Sounds pathetic, but I kinda like elections. Might be different if I was American and would have to deal with the crazyness that is election coverage on TV ;-)

But yeah, fandom is a refuge, isn't it? Watching your favorite episode of your favorite show is an antidote for everything, but especially silly real-life stuff :D

I'm so ridiculously excited about Heroes coming back. My show! ♥ Me/Heroes = OTP
If I had to watch only one show for the rest of my life, it'd be Heroes. Yeah, it's that kind of show for me. And God, how I missed it! IT'S ALMOST HERE!!! :D :D

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Gah I can't even imagine. I definitely believe in voting though. It's just hard to see all the people who hold such VASTLY different political opinions and how many theere are. But very true about fandom!

Yay! It's such a fun show.

[identity profile] fatema.livejournal.com 2008-09-22 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Lost in Austen is made of so much win! I don't know whether you are a Hex fan or not, but that's the show that made me love Jemima Rooper and just adore! Sadly, there are only four parts to the series and then that's it. :( But, it's still made of all sorts of win!

Also: your Ancient Philosophy professor is hot? Mine was not. But, I totally agree that it's very interesting. What are you reading now? My favorite (despite everything) had to be the atomists. It was like ancient science fiction that ended up being very, very close to the truth. And as a scifi geek, how can I not love that?! :D

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard of it but never seen it. And nooooooo I thought it was a full season :( That sucks. Ah well, I still enjoy it.

I am definitely lucky there. We're doing Plato right now, who I love. The atomists sounds cool, I will check them out.

[identity profile] iamwhitelady.livejournal.com 2008-09-22 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also watching Lost in Austen :D It's a pity this week is the last episode.

I hated Philosophy in high school, I think I failed all the exams. But good for you if you like it xD (And it has a hot professor, so it's win-win situation for you haha)

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that's so disappointing. At least it's a good to watch!

Yep, win-win-win! I love it, it fascinates me a lot.

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
If Season 4 of The Wire didn't win anything I knew they weren't going to acknowledge S5. What is WRONG with those people??? It was only one of the most amazing shows in television, you know?

Like, Mohinder levels hot.
BLASPHEMER!!

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well they always seem to give lots of awards to final seasons even if they weren't that great so I had hoped...But yeah, they're stupid or something. I just don't get it at all.

But he is! Very close at least. Thankfully much smarter.

[identity profile] indybaggins.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
So... *coughs* Any chance you might want to go with me to the SGA con in California in November (http://www.creationent.com/cal/sgbur.htm)? *hopeful eyes*

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I totally would if I was in LA but sadly I think its too expensive for me now :( I'm sorry, I really want to go but I get barely any money from my job for the things I need now and it's so short notice. I'm sure they'll go to other conventions in the future though so hopefully I see them then.

[identity profile] indybaggins.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I know. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask though... *g*
