NYC Writeup

The videos will have to come later as I'm too tired now to edit them all together but here's what happened when I went to NYC and saw Adam/Kris/David, Allison Janney and fans...

So my NYC trip started out not so good. I arrive early to the bus station and then wait two hours for it to get here, an hour and 15 minutes late. Which would not be a problem except I found out earlier that Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and David Cook were doing a free concert for Good Morning America in Central Park at 8 am and it was important to be there at 6 am or earlier (my bus was supposed to get there at 5:30 am). Here's where I wish I could have taken a car and left even earlier to get an awesome spot in line but unfortunately my parents are paranoid and wouldn't let me drive any of our four cars (okay two are bad but one of them is in great condition!). Anyways I also find out the bus didn't have electrical outlets like it said on the site and even with free WiFi, that wears out my iPod quickly so I couldn't use it much. Thankfully I actually managed to get about four hours of sleep so it didn't matter a lot. Then I woke up and got excited/freaked out about seeing Adam and Kris OMG. I was watching youtube videos of Adam before I left and I just can't get over how devastatingly sexy he is on a comparable level of The Master (John Simms version) and Brian Kinney which is saying a lot. This is why I tried to not get too involved with him fannishly because the hotness is overwhelming. I mean look at this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUVS91MGZoI . Gahh the way he moves...But anyways, the bus got in around 6:45 or so and I rushed out to find the subway. Of course when I do, not being used to NYC subways, I accidentally go to the downtown part and my metrocard won't let me go into the uptown one. Thankfully the service person let me in and then I waited for the train which took 20 minutes of course.

So not the best start. But I ran to the concert and thankfully unlike my fears, they let me in and I managed to get a decent spot on the left before anything started. I spotted [personal profile] astolat up by the front but was too far away and there was to many people to be able to head over there. Finally they came out and everyone went crazy. Adam of course looked stunning in his tight pants and just insanely hot outfit with his hair all slicked back. Seeing him live was just so surreal. And then Kris came out and he was soooo cute and pretty. I was dying with squee so much throughout it, let me just say that. And man, Adam and Kris are sooo into each other. They kept looking at each other and talking together and standing close and you can just see how much they love each other. My favorite moment was when they were talking and Adam puts a hand on Kris's arm and Kris starts laughing. It was adorable and wonderfully slashy. And there was a few times where it seemed Adam was looking at me and it was so intoxicating. I tried to get video footage from my camcorder of as much of Adam, Adam/Kris and some of Kris and David singing and managed to take 40 minutes. It's so hard not to tape Adam and Kris standing next to each other! It was great getting to see the boys sing twice. Adam's voice was sooo amazing and wonderful in singing Starlight. I also loved Kris's Heartless cover and David was great as well. Adam was just so beautiful. There were a ton of Adam fangirls there that I was very happy about. The best part was when Adam, Kris and David did a song together which I reeeally wanted to see and it was amazing. They totally rocked it. And have I mentioned the Adam/Kris moments totally killed me? The way they look at each other....

Everyone waited around as long as we could until they could until they kicked us out and I managed to go over and say hi to [personal profile] astolat. We walked over to a cafe/pastry place near the concert and talked about the concert, vids and fannish things. [profile] paitac came over to the cafe after a bit of confusion there and we ate and talked about Adam, Kris and David of course, fandom, [personal profile] astolat's fics in progress and some other fannish type stuff I'm forgetting. It was so good to talk fandom as it always is. Then we left and I went with [profile] paitac to the Times Square station and then I walked around there. I have to say, everytime I see Times Square, I fall in love with New York City all over again. I just love the grandness of it all, the lights, the displays, the huge ads, the big stores, the crowds of people. It's such a rush, so intoxicating and amazing. I then go and find HB Burger so I could meet [profile] yahtzee63 there. It was great to meet her and talk Alias, vids and vid ideas, Mad Men, meeting Victor Garber among other fannish/RL type stuff. It was a lot of fun!

Then we parted ways and I went to go to Manolos. Then came the bad news: it closed at 12 pm and wouldn't open til Monday. Arghhh. So I took the subway to Emmet McCarthy's store which was cute. Stopped at Pinkberry then and it was delicious as usual. Then went back to MoMa and was bummed to see a huge line for the free at 4 pm thing when it was only 3 pm and the tickets were too expensive for me. So I went to the NBC store to improve my mood and it definitely did. I would buy 75% of the things in that store and it was fun to see them all from The Office, Heroes, Battlestar, 30 Rock, House, The West Wing (only a few things though :() and more. After I left that place of crazy temptation, I went to the Marquis Theater where 9 to 5 is to wait at the stage door for Allison Janney. Very early yes but I needed to rest my legs and there wasn't much else I wanted to do either. Finally it was 5:45 and she still hadn't shown up so I asked the guy by the door and he said she usually showed up around 7-7:30 pm. I was really bummed but left to go to the fangirl dinner at 6. Unfortunately the place I showed up at was not the restaurant we had planned on and there was no one there. I thought I had written down the address wrong and was very unhappy to say the least especially as I had forgotten to write down [profile] giventofly37's cell number down and I couldn't find WiFi (or a bathroom) in NYC anywhere. Let's just say I wasn't very happy at the crowds just then.

Two disappointments was a bit too much to take so I went back up to the Marquis Theater to wait for Allison again. Around 6:45 or so, she showed up! It was crazy, she just came out of nowhere. There were two people in front of me so I had a chance to compose myself although it didn't help much as I was shaking and really nervous which hasn't happened to me in a long time. But she finally came to me and signed my 9 to 5 flyer and I told her, "I'm really looking forward to the performance tonight! I just finished The West Wing and you were absolutely amazing in The West Wing especially in Lift Oft and she's my favorite character." I think she said thanks and was like really? or something about finishing TWW. I asked if I could get a picture but I kept fumbling with my stupid video camcorder and pressed the delete button about 5 times and then turned the power out but thankfully I managed to get it to work and stood next to her before she went into the door and the stage guy got a short video clip of us. And before she went in, I improvised and told her that I loved CJ so much and she inspired me a lot and Allison said (paraphrasing) that she was one of her favorite characters to play or something like that. It was just so surreal and amazing to get to talk to her and she was just so nice. *happy sigh* One of my top favorite celebrity meetings ever and I'm so glad I met her now near the height of my CJ love.

So then I was on top of the world and ran around Times Square (a big feat to be sure) to let out my joy. I managed to find a bathroom and WiFi spot in The ESPN Zone which is amazing btw and then went to a Starbucks to watch my Allison meeting over and over again. Of course then my video camcorder froze and wouldn't work and I was a bit afraid I'd lose my video but I was a big too high to be bummed and went to the theater to wait for the show. I really loved the theater, very pretty with the purple and even though I was way in the back on the balcony, I still had a great look at the stage. Finally the show started and I was SO exciting when Allison came out! I loved that people clapped so I could too and let out my happiness. She looked so different all dressed up when before she was so casual. I was bummed I couldn't get a couple short videos of her on stage but still great to see her singing in the first 9 to 5 song. The musical was really fun, had some great funny moments and I just looooved Violet and Allison playing her. My favorite song was One of the Boys which I had seen pictures of before (thanks [personal profile] kelbelle!) but was so much better in person. Allison was just soo amazing in it and her white suit was so hot and the dancing was so awesome! I do think the musical required a bit much suspension of belief and needed a bit more depth to it but I had fun so I didn't care much. It was good to cheer Allison on live. Being on Broadway made me really want to see more musicals like Wicked, Avenue Q, that musical that James Gandofini is in...a lot. Too bad they're so expensive.

I decided against waiting by the stage door because I had heard Allison didn't come out til later and I needed to be at Penn station by a certain time so I left early which was good because it took a bit longer than I thought it would. Still had plenty of time and then took the train to Long Island and managed to get an hour of sleep in. Then I met up with [profile] giventofly37, [profile] liasbuttissexy, user='raistlinp'> and [profile] von_chanand we went back to [profile] giventofly37's house. We watched Ariel, War Games and Trash of Firefly and it was so much to watch with fans along with admiring naked Mal Reynolds. All the CSI vids I've watched have totally changed my viewing of them now heh. We talked lots of fannish stuff as well, and I talked Due South which was fun, there was anime discussions and some other things as well. I was super tired at that point as it was 5 am so I took a hour and half nap (sleeping in an actual bed at that point was heaven) and then had to leave to go back to Penn Station so I could catch my bus at 10. Finding that bus was a bit tougher than I expected but I managed and slept off and on throughout the bus ride back. I had to leave early so I could work, need money for Vividcon and all that but the lack of sleep was worth it. I'm all caught up on sleep now after getting 9 hours and a 3 hour nap last night/today thankfully.

And that was my trip. I'm just glad I didn't lose my backpack this time and nothing went disastrously wrong. It was amazing really. And it made me look forward to Vividcon so much more because there really isn't anything like hanging out with fans. It's just satisfying in a deep kind of way. Anyways, thanks to everyone who I hung out with for making my trip so much fun! I'm thinking of going back to NYC actually to see the ball drop. We'll see...I think I am going to have to get really into Allison Janney and Adam Lambert because they are too awesome to be ignored.

On another note, have I mentioned I'm getting a car in January? I'm soooooo excited!! It'll help me get around in LA and I'll actually be able to go out and night and do stuff and not have to worry about sucky public transportation. The freedom!! I really can't wait. I will need to buy a TV for my dorm and I'll have to spend some money on that because I love big tvs and don't think I can settle for a small one. Can't believe I'm going back to college in less than three weeks. I miss California a lot though so that'll be good.

I can't believe in one week I'll be watching Mad Men. At Vividcon!
