Vid and TV Stuff

Happy Belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sundancekid! It's been a pleasure having you on my Flist and I always enjoy reading your posts :)

First things first, Vividcon registration is tomorrow! They open at 12 PM EST tomorrow here and I would strongly urge anyone who wants to go to get up early, have alarms in place (you can download computer alarms if needed!) and register immediately because it's probably going to sell out really fast even ten minute fast, who knows. I can't recommend Vividcon enough for anyone who loves vids. It's SO MUCH fun. There's the Premieres show and other vidshows with both new and old vids showing, really interesting vidding panels that help for both creating and watching vids, Club Vivid with lots of fun dancing to vids and many great fans who LOVE vids and create a friendly, enthusiastic and vid positive atmosphere. I've had the time of my life both times I went and for me it's worth all the money in the world. I would urge everyone interested to go!

Late on this but just in case anyone hasn't seen, the New To Me Vid Watching Challenge has a lot of great vid recs of some vids you may not have seen before. Hopefully soon I'll compile my own big rec list I've been meaning to do.

In light of Alias, I'm curious about what people think are the best and worst TV show pilots and finales. Especially relative to the overall quality of the show as a whole. What do you think makes a good Pilot and Finale? Here's a poll if you'd like to answer and I'd love any comments if you'd like to elaborate why (without spoilers preferred).

[Poll #1131677]

Also, here's a meme:

You should start! It's fun. Finales for seasons are fine though.

1. The first character I fell in love with: Michael Scott. Even in the Pilot I felt bad for him.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Angela. I used to say she was my least favorite and now she's one of my favorites!
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Jim Halpert in terms of degree. I do love him though, I just don't want him as my ideal boyfriend and I'm not obsessed over him.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Sadly probably Michael :(
5. The character I would shag anytime: Doesn't really apply to this show but if pushed...probably Michael.
6. The character I'd want to be like: Jan before Women's Appreciation and Pam during/after Beach Games.
7. The character I'd slap: Probably Jim especially in S3.
8. A pairing that I love: Michael/Jan
9. A pairing that I despise: None really but if pressed...Jim/Karen because I don't think they work well together.
10. Favorite character: Michael Scott
11. What are your five favorite things about your fandom? The most lovable, quirky characters, hilarity in LOL and *smart* ways, heartwarming character and relationship moments, highly relatable in many ways and a mostly wank/fight free fandom.
12. What are your five least favorite things about your fandom? Jan post Women's Appreciation, poor characterization and use of Meredith, difference between S1 and after that (wish the quality had been the same), not enough slash and too much focus on Jim/Pam (mostly in fandom).
13. Who are your five favorite characters? Michael, Dwight, Pam, Kelly and Stanley (and Creed and Angela...)
14. Who are your five least favorite characters? Todd Packer, Roy, Karen, Jim and Ryan (I still love them though!)
15. What are your five favorite pairings? Michael/Jan, Jim/Pam, Dwight/Angela, Jim/Dwight, Michael/Ryan
16. What are your five least favorite pairings? Jim/Karen, Jim/Katy, Roy/Pam, Toby/Pam (still love them though!), Michael/Carol (they're very cute though!)
17. Which character are you most like? I think I'm a mixture of Pam's quietness and fear of change and Michael's enthusiasm and social insecurities.
18. What is your deep, dark fandom secret? Something I get really annoyed by the Jim/Pam and Jim focus in fandom to the exclusion of everything else especially when it causes people to put down other good things about the show.

I love my show sooo much :D

I'm definitely working on catching up!

Agreed for 3 and 7. I've never understood the rabid Jim adoration, which is not to say I dislike his character, but I've never salivated rivers and christened them with his name.

Re: 11: YYYYY.

14. You're a better fan than I! I don't think I could dislike/not-care-AS-much about a character and still ship him/her in one of my favorite pairings. I give you kudos for Jim and Ryan here. :P

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes exactly! I adore him especially in S2 but people are just waaay into him than I think he deserves. Personal preferences I guess.

But I do love them! This show is impossible for least favorites because I love them all. Actually Ryan should leave and be replaced with Meredith now that I think of it. Both Jim and Ryan get much better when they're paired with the right people ;)

Clearly our Michael Scott love is superior. WUT WUT. ;)

Too true. The Office character lineup is superb. I have least favorites among them but it's more along the lines of "characters who get two heaps of love rather than three" instead of "characters who need to roast in hell and have their souls devoured".

Both Jim and Ryan get much better when they're paired with the right people ;)
Hahaha. Yes. Couldn't have phrased it better myself. <3

Clearly! And I completely agree with you re: heaps of love. I actually have made tiers because it's hard for me to put one character over another.
