At long last, here is my Vividcon 2014 Con Report :)

Con Report under the cut )

Overall it was an absolutely amazing Vividcon and I had a wonderful time getting to see so many friends again as well as meet new ones. There's never enough time to get to talk to everyone for as long as I'd like but I like to think of all my Vividcon's put together as a way to get a chance to do that and I definitely was able to have some great conversation with various people. I was really inspired by some of the vids and the panels were full of interesting discussion that has made me even more determined to keep learning and growing to become a better vidder. When I got home, I started clipping for my Club Vivid vid next year and I'm already looking forward to making Escapade vids and festivids. The con is always super well run which as we've seen this year, is not a given and I love the balance between trying new things and sticking with so many great traditions that I deeply love. I missed a lot of people this year who couldn't make it but I'm so thankful for all the people who could come and made it such an amazing experience for me. I'm so happy to be a part of such an amazing vidding community and can't wait for next Vividcon!

[Current Music |possible festivid songs?]

Even though I'm not in school right now, the beginning of September always feels like a new beginning to me. It seems like a good time to share my plans for the rest of the year and the time to come as I finally have some ideas of what I want to do.

First a catchup of the last three months. In May, I went to a fun Ingrid Michaelson concert with [livejournal.com profile] beerbad and had a great time listening to some of my favorite songs. Mother's Day was pretty sad and I tried to avoid the media but eventually gave in and just scrolled through and watched some sad TV shows and cried some. One of the most fun things I did was go to Malibu State Park and go to this little pond (not sure what the right word is here) where they had cliff jumping rocks and I went to the highest one (about 30 feet) and jumped off of it. It was SO fun and I had been feeling kind of meh about the world and it gave me an adrenaline rush that made me feel happy and full of hope again. I just love feeling like I'm flying and being that high in the air, I really felt like I was in the air on the way down and it felt amazing. I also went to a fun Harry Potter roller skating event where there was a ton of people dressed up and they played Harry Potter songs and it was just really fun even though at the end the music was meh so I put on my headphones and listened to shippy songs for my favorite couples (mostly Kane/Toews). I went to a Memorial Day BBQ with other geeky/fannish type people and had fun playing Cards Against Humanity and talking various TV shows with people. I had a lot of fun going to see the Chicago Blackhawks play the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center in my first live hockey game and I was lucky enough to see it with [livejournal.com profile] celli and get to see Toews score a goal right in front of me. [livejournal.com profile] celli and I had a lot of fun talking hockey and various real life stuff after the game and it was fun getting a chance to get to know her better. I also went to see a screening of the Mindy Project season finale and got to see a cast Q&A and later got to meet Mindy Kaling for the fourth time - and she remembered who I was for the third time ever. It was pretty cool and she even took a selfie of her and me. I also went to my second cousin's bridal shower and got to catch up with that side of my family and got to see my grandma's sister as well which was nice and I'm looking forward to going to his wedding in November.

In June, I spent a lot of time finishing my Femslash Premiere and my Premieres vid for Vividcon which was a bit stressful but I was ultimately able to finish by the deadline. I was also following the NBA draft and super happy when my favorite player, Tyler Ennis was selected 18th in the draft and another Syracuse player, Jerami Grant went to the Philadelphia 76ers which has a Syracuse player, Michael Carter-Williams who just won Rookie of the Year and who I slash with his friend on the team, Nerlens Noel so I'm looking forward to OT3ing them together. I also started watching the World Cup, following it seriously for the first time ever and fell in love with the USA team, most of all the coach, Jurgen Klinsmann. Jurgen who was a big star in Europe who won the World Cup with Germany in 1990, coached the German team to a 3rd place finish in 2006 (in Germany) but who loves the USA and lives there with his family so he decided to coach the USA team in 2011 and is attempting to turn the team around so it can eventually win the World Cup with the men's team. I really love what he's trying to do and his personality and I have a lot of hope that he can help us win it all so I began to follow the US team and was in ecstasy after we beat Ghana and went to a USA bar for the Portugal game with [livejournal.com profile] cenedrawood and was SO HAPPY when USA came back from a 0-1 deficit to be winning 2-1...only to lose in the last thirty seconds in one of the most heartbreaking sports moments ever for me. Thankfully we still had another game against Germany where Jurgen was coaching against his friend, Joachim Löm (who was his assistant coach when he coached Germany) and since I ship them together (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] caesaria), it was an entertaining game for me if terrifying. We lost by one but were still able to make it out of the group stages where we played Belgium which I don't even want to talk about because I'm still super bitter and prefer to think about how Tim Howard made 15 saves and Julian Green scored a goal on his first touch even though he's only 19 years old and was another young player that people complained about being on the roster and yet was one of the many players to prove that Jurgen knew what he was doing cause he's an amazing coach <3 Anyways, I started out rooting for Brazil (because they were at home, it meant a lot to them and they spent so much money at least they could get SOMETHING out of it), Germany, England, Italy and I also added the Netherlands after I saw their first game against Spain and enjoyed watching Robben and van Persie play. Eventually Germany and Netherlands were my favorite teams as after watching a documentary about the 2006 German team and falling in love with Robben as a player I wish I could be like, I emotionally connected with them, plus it helped that both teams did super well.

In July, I was really into basketball as the NBA summer league started and all the new rookies, 2nd year players and undrafted players trying to get a spot on rosters were playing and I watched the 76ers team do well in Orlando with my guy, Jerami Grant. The major summer league was in Las Vegas though and I decided to go to Vegas, buy tickets for the games (they're cheap) and let out my basketball feelings while trying to meet some of my favorite Syracuse players since many of them were going to be there. I had an amazing time, getting autographs and talking to Tyler Ennis, Rakeem Christmas (current SU player), Jerami Grant, Michael Carter-Williams, Baye Moussa Keita and Brandon Triche (former SU players) as well as watching a ton of players play for their teams. Unfortunately my car had some issues so I stayed longer than I wanted to but I also had fun hanging out with n0apologies (twitter) who I had met at Wincon and we had a great time talking about our lives, Adam Lambert, Queer as Folk and other fannish topics. I was also there duing the World Cup final and went to a bar to watch Germany play Argentina where thankfully Germany won and I was SO HAPPY as Jogi Low and the team had come soooo close to winning in the last 8 years and always came up a little short so I was super happy for the team to finally win it all and I just had such a fun time celebrating, happy crying and joining in the celebrations at the German bar.

Finally I got back to LA and had fun going to [livejournal.com profile] elipie's karaoke birthday party and then going to a Lady GaGa concert with her where we won free seat upgrades and got to hang in the VIP lounge with free drinks and hang out with hot half-naked boys while we could easily see Lady GaGa especially when she came over to the platform right above us. It was super fun getting to hear her sing some of her classic songs and she's an amazing performer so we had a fun time singing her songs and enjoying the performance. At the end of July, I went back home to Syracuse where I spent some time with my dad, caught up with my best friend and hung out with my cats at home. I also drove down to Pennsylvania to visit my cousin's family and spend some time with my aunt. My cousin is starting her own business so I spent a little bit of time at her shop and we also went with her family and my aunt to one of my favorite amusement parks where we used to go almost every year as a kid so it was very nostalgic to be back there again. Speaking of nostalgia, I also went to visit my childhood elementary school and was bummed to see they tore down the playground I had loved although they are building a new one, it's not the same. After that, I went to Vividcon which I'll talk about in a different post but the Wednesday after that, I had an amazing time going to Six Flags Magic Mountain with [livejournal.com profile] elipie getting a chance to talk about Vividcon, new vidding ideas and other fannish stuff.

This summer I had planned on taking some courses related to college admission counseling but after a couple of days trying to take them, I realized my heart wasn't in them as I wasn't sure yet whether that's what I wanted to do as it might not be big enough for me career-wise. Thankfully I was able to get a full refund and another thing that affected my decision was a revelation I had thought of while reading books about colleges. I kept having regrets while reading on how I wish I had gotten a true college experience and had gone to a more intellectual school when I realized - I could still do that. There was a college I had first heard about in high school called St. John's College that covered in four years, many of the so called Great Books but without lectures, it's all discussion based or laboratory based as they cover science using classic experiments and original texts for everything. Two of the most interesting aspects is learning Ancient Greek and learning math from classic books like Euclid's Elements which I've always wanted to do to understand more of where the English language comes from and understand the basis of math which I've always though could be interesting in the right context. The college is pretty intense but that's exactly what I want, a place where people want to read and think about some of life's biggest questions by reading some of the most enduring books many of which I've always wanted to read and just needed some more structure and people to discuss them with. I feel like my intellectual development has been pretty stunted the last seven years and I know I need to take a big leap to become the person I've always wanted to be and this college is the perfect way to take my communication skills both written and oral to the next level. I am an ambitious person and I have big dreams of doing things to change the world but I need to build a strong foundation so that I can accomplish that so I think I need to take a risk to go to this college and become the person I want to be.

During the summer I started working on my application which consists of three essays talking about why I want to go to the college, a book that has influenced me and a significant experience that has left an impact on me and I'm working on finishing that up by the end of this month. The college has a January program that I'm looking to get accepted at where by going to school over the summer, I'll be all caught up with the freshman year program and will be a regular sophomore by the time next September comes around (but thankfully I will get a summer vacation right before the first potential Vividcon weekend). The college gives good financial aid so I'm not too worried about the money aspect, the bigger opportunity cost for me is the time but I think the education I'm getting will be worth it and I'll be doing part time jobs, volunteer work and internships during the school years and summer to help me figure out the best work for me to do after college and I always have a backup job as a programmer as well. One of the biggest negatives is the college is in Santa Fe and although the weather is not too much colder than LA (averaging 45-85 plus like 6 snow days blech), it'll still be a big adjustment leaving the city (and friends!) I love to be in a much smaller city with less things to do (although Albuquerque is only 45 minutes away and Denver/Phoenix are semi-close too). But I think it's worth it for this oppurtunity that I can't get anywhere else and I feel like I'll always regret it and wonder what if, if I decided not to do go. Plus I'll definitely be visiting LA during breaks, Escapade and during my free summers so I think I'll be able to survive. Another concern is the book list is not that diverse but I know there are book groups there that cover more classic books written by women, minorities and Eastern writers so I'll be sure to be reading them. Something I'm excited about is they have a lot of sports intramurals so I'll still be able to play soccer, tennis and there's lots of nature for hiking and even rock climbing. Most importantly, I'll finally get to have a true college experience and make lots of new friends as even though the college is small, people are very self-selected towards the kind of people I tend to get along with (minus your obligatory pretentious arrogant idiots) so I'm looking forward to that. It'll be a big life change for me but I think this is the best step I can make in working on becoming who I want to be and for my development to being able to help the world solve the major problems we're facing.

I originally was applying for this fall semester but I was having a hard time being ready for that so I decided to wait til January although I have a plan for what I will be doing in LA until then. A friend recommended to me a friend of hers who has a philosophy PHD and is willing to meet with me to go over classic texts that I want to start reading this fall so I can have some accountability and someone to discuss things with to prepare me for St. John's College. I'm planning on working on doing more reading (besides fanfic of course) this fall as I sample many books from nonfiction to fiction in many genres. I'm going to be focusing especially about reading books about California and LA as I want to work on solving problems in the state and want to become more knowledgeable about the issues surrounding the state. I also am going to be doing some volunteering with various organizations to learn more about LA and start figuring out what exactly I would enjoy doing for jobs. I also have a part time job I'll be working on to earn some extra money. Another big goal of mine for this fall is to start seriously trying to date while I still have time in LA which should hopefully give me more motivation to do it. I'm also continuing to work on improving my Spanish through Duolingo and translating Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone from Spanish to English using my Kindle App Spanish to English dictionary. And I definitely want to spend more time with my friends in Los Angeles while I'm still here.

Another big focus for me this fall is heath and fitness as I'd like to lose about 15-20 pounds before the end of this year. I signed up for an accountability type service which has been good with keeping me on track with my eating and exercise goals. Something inspiring for me was watching Kacey Cantanzaro complete the city finals course for American Ninja Warrior, an obstacle course competition where participants can win 500k for winning the finals course in Las Vegas. That inspired me to look into parkour and rock climbing which are two training aspects that some of the best competitors do. I figured that even if I don't make it, it'd be a fun goal to try to train for the course as it looks really fun and it's something that anyone can accomplish even if they don't have a lot of training when they were younger (unlike most sports). Thankfully there is a parkour (more accurately, freerunning) gym in the LA area and I've already taken two beginner lessons there and had fun practicing in the opening gym sessions. So far it's pretty basic, working on vaulting over objects and precision jumping, jumping from one ledge to another but it's been really fun and a great workout and I look forward to being able to do the crazy workouts I see in the gym. I was super scared about doing a flip from the high ledge into the pit (filled with soft foam stuff) but finally managed to gather my courage and did as well as do some flips on the trampoline. I also attempted to run up the warped wall they have in the gym and tried to jump from one bar to another (not there yet). I've also been into soccer as I really enjoy team sports so I signed up for a three days a week soccer class at my local community college and although it's a bit intimidating as it's all guys except one other girl and many of them want to compete on the soccer team at the college, so far I've been having fun playing (minus getting blisters on my feet from my new cleats). I even scored a goal during a game! We've been mostly just playing games which was a bit disappointing as I hoped to practice some skills work as well but it's been fun and I've been learning a lot even if it's been pretty hot playing during the summer. I've also been keeping up with my strength training workouts since March and been continually adding more weight to my lifts. Food is always tough for me as I hate cooking and love delicious food but I've been making a lot of progress and have lost three pounds so far.

I can't wait for the new TV season! I've been watching some of the trailers for the new shows and have added a few shows that I'm going to check out this fall. While A to Z has a couple of annoying things about it, it also features the Mother from HIMYM and as soul destroying it is seeing her, the show looks really cute and right up my romantic loving alley with the whole matchmaking element. I'm also excited for How to Get Away With Murder as Viola Davis looks amazing in it, the premise sounds fun and deliciously messed up and I will always trust Shonda Rhimes to do crazy things. I'm also going to check out Utopia which fascinates me as I've always loved thinking about how to create the perfect society although the reality show format makes me keep my expectations down. I am also looking forward to checking out Survivor's Remorse which is about a BASKETBALL PLAYER (!!!) who becomes successful and must deal with everything that comes with it which sounds super fun for me to vicariously see that side of things and is produced by Lebron James (who I've come to not hate since he went back to Cleveland) so I'm very curious to check it out. I kind of wish I could watch The Flash because the lead actor is a guy I found SUPER hot on Glee (Sebastian!) but I've sworn off all superhero shows unless it features a female/PoC lead so I'll just be checking out Agent Carter. Mostly I'm going to be listening to friends and critics to see if there are any high quality shows I should check out. I'm really looking forward to The Mindy Project, Faking It and Scandal coming back especially the first two as they feature two of my favorite ships. I'm mostly planning on using the fall to continue to catch up with some well written shows I haven't watched yet including Deadwood which I MUST finish by the end of the year. On the movie side of things, this summer I LOVED Maleficent (Maleficent/Aurora all the way!), enjoyed X-Men: Days of Future Past and am looking forward to seeing The Hunger Games 3, The Hobbit 3 and Annie (love the trailer!). On the sports side of things, my new soccer team is Bayern Munich since they have my favorite player, Arjen Robben, lots of German players from the national team like Müller, Neuer and Götze and my fave USA guy, Julian Green (although he's on loan to Hamburg this year) so I already have an emotional investment in them and will be watching all their games. I'm casually following the English Premier League (mostly for my USA/Germany people) and some college football as well and will be checking out my usual NFL teams this fall (although I'm still super bitter there's no LA team) such as the Bills, 49ers, Giants, Chargers and Jets. We'll see timewise what happens as once NBA seasons starts in late October and Syracuse basketball in November, most of my attention will go to that because YAY BASKETBALL. Hockey will be back in October as well and I will check out some Chicago games sometimes.

Super excited for Festivids! I have about 6 possible nominations at the moment although I worry about qualification for a couple of them but I'm excited about them and the vid ideas I want to make already. Before I get my assignment though, I need to start working on my Escapade vid as that's going to require a time committment and I have another vid idea I want to make for next year that I need to get started on clipping right now to get it done in time for VVC. I have another vid that's almost done that I should hopefully post in the next week as well. I have a couple ideas that require me to stretch my skills that I'm really excited about even if it'll be a challenge, it should be fun to do. Other fun fandom-y things coming up is a bunch of NorCal (and elsewhere) fangirls are planning a Fandom Beach Vacation where we rent a beach house and just hang out all day and I'm so excited to hang out with my fandom friends in November :) I also need to plan out what to do for my birthday in October this year, I have an idea and need to check if it's realistic. I still can't believe I'm going to be 27...is that officially late 20s? Eek. But hopefully with all the plans I have in place, I'll be ready to enjoy this time in my life shortly!

TV I'm Watching [Mar. 20th, 2013|07:41 am]

So I keep seeing the Books I'm Reading meme every Wednesday and I always feel left out because I basically am only rereading the Game of Thrones books right now (with lots of highlights!). But then I thought, I should just do it for TV since I'm trying to get through a lot of TV right now and I'm really bad at writing out my thoughts except sometimes on Twitter. So here is the book meme revised for TV:

What I've just finished: Bunheads! I really loved it and it filled the Gilmore Girls shaped hole in my heart. Michelle is such an amazing main character and cracks me up so much while having a bunch of issues that just make her ridiculously endearing. The show has so many cross generational relationships that are all wonderful, I particularly love Fanny and Michelle and the hilarious dialogue they have together. Initially Sasha rubbed me the wrong way but now I adore her the most of all the kids and her relationship Michelle is SO cute (and sometimes flirty heh). I love that the whole show is basically about women with a few guys as love interests and that once again, Amy has created a quirky small town full of fun characters including Gilmore Girls very own PARIS AND KIRK! I highly recommend it especially if you enjoy crackling dialogue, just give it 4-5 episodes to really grow on you as I do think GG had a stronger opening.

What I'm watching: Currently my go to watch show is Lost Girl! I have [personal profile] kerithwyn to thank for it as I had heard about the show before from Escapade (mostly [personal profile] killabeez) and I just did not want to watch another episodic show so I didn't watch. But this year during the Escapade Pimping panel, [personal profile] kerithwyn tried the hard sell on me: queer main character, sex positive, an ACTUAL lesbian relationship and a serial arc in S2 and I was intrigued. So I decided to give it a try while I'm clipping which helps me get past the episodic plots. So in the first episode there's this scene between Bo and Lauren and I'm just like, wow they have some intense chemistry, I ship it...turns out they're one of the main couples on the show, SCORE!! So yeah, by the 5th? episode or so, I'm hooked. Like so many others, Kenzi is my favorite and is just the Stiles of the show: hilarious, awesome and a very physical character. But I looove Bo and her power and OMG I OTP Bo/Lauren SO HARD!!! ACTUAL KISSING AND SEX YAY!!! This may be my favorite canon lesbian relationship ever, we'll see. It's just so fun to root for a queer couple that actually happens as much as I love Swan Queen, canon queer couples are my favorite always.

Other things I'm watching: Vikings which a lot of people on Twitter are talking about. I'm still not totally sold on it, I haven't connected with any of the characters yet and it needs a lot more women characters being awesome. But I LOVE the scenery and I think the concept is awesome because I've always wanted more history based TV shows as it makes it a lot more fun to learn about (yes I know it's not completely accurate). It's a little bit like Game of Thrones which is helping during the last two weeks before the Game of Thrones premiere (!!!). Other than that, I'm watching the usual suspects weekly: How I Met Your Mother, Cougar Town, The Mindy Project, Modern Family, Parks & Recreation, Glee, The Office, The Big Bang Theory, Once Upon a Time, Shameless (SO much love) and Girls (a bit behind though).

What I'm going to watch next: I started American Horror Story while clipping and I'm to around 105 so once I'm done with Lost Girl I'll go back to that. I started watching Parenthood too and will get back to that after Lost Girl (I am in must watch mode for it). The other two shows I'd like to get to is The Hour and finish watching Justified (still on 109ish there).

For other TV fans like me who sometimes have a little trouble keeping track of what they're watching, I found this cool website that lets you keep track of all the TV you've watched (including episodes) and gives you a calendar of shows that are on specific days as well as a great resource for seeing what shows you might want to watch. It's called Episode Calendar and the interface is the most beautiful and complete I've seen. Plus the guy running it is working on iOS and Android apps! I really love it so far.

End of the Year Fandom Meme 2011 [Dec. 31st, 2011|07:27 pm]

Not a great year for acquiring fandoms but I will still do the fandom end of year meme.

End of the Year Fandom Meme )

I have to make another plug for everyone to watch Parks & Recreation because it is just THAT good. Best show of the year, hands down. Alan Sepinwall also put it as #1 and describes it much better than I could (spoilers taken out):

"But overwhelming joy is a visceral reaction, too, and that's the feeling I get these days watching "Parks and Recreation." Yes, it can be a gut-bustingly funny comedy..., and that alone is an impressive achievement. But what puts "Parks and Rec" over the top for me is the sheer level of happiness it creates in me as I watch it. It's a political comedy with a fundamentally optimistic viewpoint. It generates most of its comedy not by mocking its characters for being inept..., but by showing the ways in which they are incredible. It's a show that's overflowing with love and understanding for all of its characters..., one that can be unbelievably romantic and sweet about things that would be so easy to just mock, ... In 2011, no show gave me greater pleasure to watch, week after week, than "Parks and Recreation." Original Article

S1 is not the best but after that the show is AWESOME! Go watch.

If anyone has any pictures of me from Vividcon, could you please send them to me? Especially if you have one of my outfit from Club Vivid as I'd like to post that one here in my con report.

In other news, I am ridiculously overwhelmed right now between work, watching vids, writing posts, reading posts, feedbacking vids, making vids and all the other stuff I'm trying to catch up on at the moment. So apologies if I seem to be ignoring anything, I'm just completely swamped at the moment. But Vividcon afterglow is still there and I'm SO in love with vidding and the con and just everyone there. I hung out with some awesome people this year and it was just a fun, great fifth year. I'm in a good place in my life right now and VVC just confirmed that and motivated me to keep making my life even better and the way I want it. Thank you to everyone who made it possible and all the people who were so wonderful at the con. Fandom really is a beautiful place and the con helped relieve a LOT of the issues I've been having with it lately. Vividcon only further confirmed it to me that no matter what I fear, people are wonderful and full of love :)

[Current Music |"Don't Stop Believin" by the Glee Cast]

OMG SIX MORE DAYS TIL GLEE!!! I am so excited I can't even. I can't believe I survived the four month hiatus of doom. And I just watched the cast on Oprah and OMG HOW IS THIS SHOW SO AWESOME??? I cannot even contain my glee, it is too boundless. The video for it is right here which includes Don't Stop Believin/Somebody to Love (best two songs!) performances, Q&A (with heartwarming/sobworthy stories, writer love and a a little spoiler alert), behind the scenes (extra spoiler alert). There's more but it's not online yet except a few videos on youtube. Just watching the performances made me go crazy which tells me I'm really going to go insane when I see them live. I hate spoilers normally (and still don't want to be spoiledfor any Glee songs or anything else) but in this case I am so desperate and love this cast/show so much that I don't care because OMG GLEE. More spoiler talk under the cut to let out my happiness.

Spoilers are screaming for joy )

One of the things I loved that Ryan Murphy said is that this is one of the few shows on TV that is optimistic, that's uplifting and I cannot agree with him anymore. What I love so much about this show is that after the crappiness that life can offer this show brings happiness and joy to me and so many people. There really is not enough of it on TV which always gets me down as my TV to watch piles up with depressing shows. But Glee!! It always brings the emotional highs and puts me in an amazing mood and I really need more of that in my life. This show is why I love TV (and music) and it's really what makes life worth living in the end.

And man is Glee coming back at the right time because I have been feeling more and more out of step with fandom and this is perfect to keep my energized. The recent wave of Supernatural and Doctor Who posts is just so whatever to me as I'm completely over episodic shows and I tried the Eleventh Doctor and hated it. It was just so boring and tries too hard and I don't like the new Doctor's annoying face and just whatever Moffat, go away please. However irrational it is, it just makes me want to get away from LJ/DW and go hang out in a Glee loving place for the next few months to concentrate on the happy. I won't-it'd be like cutting off my own leg-but I'm tempted. But such is life in fandom.

On a happy note, my time in Chicago was great! Totally epic. I went to the rink early in hopes of meeting Johnny but sadly didn't see him come in. I did get to watch the practice and saw the first time he started skating (instantly recognized him in his blue jacket). Totally cheered when he first came out and was the only one, hee (there was like 5 people there). When I saw him doing Poker Face I was SO EXCITED as I had no idea he was going to do it. They did make us leave before he practiced Bad Romance sadly but I caught a little of it waiting in line. I was first in line so I got a front row seat in the middle of the arena. It was very nice even though I was dying to have one of the on the ice seats. When Johnny came out, it was SO awesome, the whole building was filled with Johnny fans so we were all screaming and you couldn't hear the announcer or the music.

Besides Poker Face (which was just so cool to see live), Johnny also did this beautiful piece dedicated to the Moscow bombing victims. And god in the beginning I was so overwhelmed with seeing him live, him being so beautiful on the ice, that I started to cry. It was just so, so worth the money to see him live, he is an angel on the ice and so...perfect. And then finally for the grand finale, he did the famous Bad Romance which was EPIC! I mean the costume!!! Better than Poker Face, maybe even the pink tassel, I don't know. But it was all golden and glittery and just so Bad Romance. And the skating was so perfect for Lady GaGa, such a theatrical show and he totally made it worth it for the audience. So many ass swivel type stuff and ice sliding and fitting the song and just YES. At times he seemed to be looking right at me although that's probably just me. The audience was practically cheering the whole time and he totally got a standing oviation. It was just amazing.

And then at the end, he was coming around the rink waving at the audience and someone threw flowers that he collected. And I had bought flowers at Union Station but wasn't sure whether to throw them out or try to give them to him after the show. But when I saw that, I decided I would so when he came around to my side near me, I threw them down to him and he picked them up and looked at me and I was so overwhelmed with love that I blew him a kiss. And then looking right at me HE BLEW ME A KISS BACK!!! ME!!! OMG it was one of the best moments of my life. I felt so special. It was the best. So even though I didn't get a chance to meet him because he went to a VIP party and I had to leave to catch a train, it still felt personal and worth it anyhow because of that. Oh Johnny Weir, how I love you ♥

I cannot believe the 2000s are ending and it's going to be 2010, the start of the new decade. Wow. Here are some memes to sum it all up.

End of the Year Fandom Meme )

Fannish Year Meme )

End of the Year Meme )

Also I finished True Blood S2. Spoilers for True Blood S2 )

I have finally figured out that part of the reason I love Eric so much is that he reminds me of Brian Kinney. Not just the clothes but he has the same kind of looks where you can see the vulnerability underneath them as well as a similar sexy aura.

Anyways, basically I am okay with this year. The highs were balanced by the lows so it all turned out pretty okay. I need to change it up though so I'm hoping I'll follow through on my goals this year. The year has gotten me to the place I need to be in for next year and I didn't mess up anything so much that I can't come back so all in all it's been good. I am making good progress on my Festivids vid on my new computer which is sooo wonderful and perfect. My vid output of one vid this year was disappointing but I'm giving myself a break because of tech trouble. 2010 does not have this excuse and I have five vids in planning that I really want to get done. It's wonderful having a fast computer where Premiere takes 5 seconds to load and it's easy to clip and vid. Onto the future!

Happy New Year everyone :)

[Current Music |"Aftermath" by Adam Lambert]

Update about me, college, TV/fandom, Adam Lambert and my plans for next year )

Adam Lambert's CD, For Your Entertainment comes out Monday!! Everyone go buy it, for it is awesome. My favorite songs so far are Music Again (best.chorus.ever.) and Surefire Winners for it's great lyrics (I was born with glitter on my face/My baby clothes made of leather and lace/And all the girls in the club wanna know/Where did all their pretty boys go?...!!!) and I love the pure dancability of Fever (there HE goes, my baby walks so slow...HE!), Strut, If I Had You and For Your Entertainment. I also love Soaked (ORCHESTRA epicness!) and Sleepwalker is ridiculously beautiful. All the songs are just so amazing, I can't even say. He is definitely worth supporting. And he's performing his single for the first time at the AMA's tomorrow! I am so excited I can't even say. I'm sure the concert will be presented amazingly like him.

Speaking of Adam, I have a favor to ask. Please please please if you could click this Demand It link to get Adam, Kris and Allison to perform in NYC (I wanted LA but NYC is ahead so let's go with that-plus I may be closer anyways who knows) it would be awesome. It only takes a minute, I swear. You can put New York City or zip code, 10001 in the box. I need to see some Kradison live in concert!

[Current Music |"It Had to Be You" by Motion City Soundtrack]

Fangirl highs are the BEST. I am currently in one because of House spoilers for the next episode ). I have this vid idea that needs as many sparks as it can so this is wonderful. I am trying to contain myself but it's hard and this is after I ran around the block. Basically in my head it is a wonderful party of screams and squees and OMGs and super happiness. Ahhh this is why I ship my heart out.

In other fannish news, I have completely fallen for Andy/Oscar from The Office. And you know, I've been wanting a good slash ship on this show for awhile now and although I love Michael/Dwight and Jim/Dwight and Michael/Ryan and the general slashiness on the show, nothing really stood out to me. And I've always liked the Andy/Oscar stuff since Business Trip but it just took that hint of canonness in the episode before last week to make me full out shippiness. I'm surprised it took me so long as they have exactly the dynamic I love with the whole see through the hard exterior to the jelly inside as Andy says so perfectly. I'm such a sucker for that. But now I'm watching their scenes together and dying for more scenes together. I swear this is like right after I got into Michael/Jan and then had to wait a month before they had a scene together. It's SO frustrating for my shippy brain.

Some thoughts on Dollhouse: Not really spoilers but just in case )

College is going pretty well so far. Still trying to get a balanced schedule but I'm procrastinating somewhat less and reading more so that's good. I'm taking Computer Science 1, Visual Programming, Introduction to Financial Accounting and Primetime: The Game of Television. The last one, of course, is my favorite. It's like a TV industry RPG where there are producers who pitch shows to the networks who sell the shows to the networks and then everyone votes for what shows they watch. It's really fun! Unfortunately I'm stuck being a producer since there was some miscommunication in my network group and we didn't turn something in. It's hard for me as I don't gave a lot of workable TV show ideas (suggest some if you want!) but I'm working with my old group so that helps. I actually sold one of my ideas! It was all about using social media and stuff like that to stay in touch over long distances. Thank god for other teammates helping out with fleshing out plot and characters. The other classes are going well too, I like them all but there's not much to say about them. It's kind of lonely at times as it seems everyone else has a lot of friends and I'm just trying to meet people I have a connection with but I'm hoping I'll find a few as I get more involved with clubs and stuff. Although with my crappy luck, two clubs meet the same evening I have class for 4 hours. Arghhh.

I took the Census test because I really need a job and it pays double anything I've ever been paid. Plus it's proving hard to find a job on campus. And I reeeally want to go to Paley, hopefully to see Dr. Horrible and meet Nathan and if I get lucky, see the Battlestar event. Sadly the Pushing Daisies one is when I'll be off on Spring Break but I'm sure they'll show the episodes on the DVD or at another time at least. Can't wait for The Office tomorrow! And John Hamm on 30 Rock is soooo hot. I am all swoony throughout that show now.

[Current Music |vids]

Happy Thanksgiving! I am going away for the next two days without internet so a few things before I go.

I am thankful for my shiny new 2 TB hard drive with SO MUCH SPACE OMG (and if you want one for only $230, try newegg) and all of the new music and DVD space for vidding available for me. I am taking music recs, rec me every artist you think I should listen to from the most obvious (The Beatles) to the least known.

I am thankful for Television for all the amazing stories, characters and relationships it gives me, for all that it makes me feel and think and love. I am thankful for The Office, for House, for The Wire, for Pushing Daisies, for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for Project Runway, for Queer as Folk, for The Rachel Maddow Show and for all the other shows I love so much. I am so thankful they exist or have existed and I will never believe there will not be a time when beautiful, amazing shows are created and someday will be allowed to be complete regardless of the business.

I am thankful for all modes of narrative from TV to movies to books to everything in between and I am thankful for all the arts that create so much beauty in the world. I am thankful for music and how fun it is to listen to, how much it inspires me and how it makes me feel so much emotion.

I am thankful for my new president, President Barack Obama and getting rid of the old horrible government and bringing in change I can believe in. To give me hope and inspire me to do more, to help build back this nation from the wreckage and to work for so many new beautiful things. God, I am SO thankful for this.

I am thankful for all the friends I've made and all the people I've met who have touched my life in a positive way. I am thankful for the good times, the laughter, the shared jokes, the interesting conversations and the close bonds I've formed. And I'm glad I still have the hope that I will find my chosen family some day.

I am thankful for all of fandom for helping me not feel so alone in being a fan and in giving me so much shared joy in the works we celebrate and the words and art we create from it. I am thankful for vidding where I finally found my creative expression and love so much all the amazing vids out there not to mention the smart conversations that talk about them. I am thankful for my fellow shippers and the joy in shipping, of loving Brian/Justin, Jack/Irina, House/Wilson and all my other favorites and having people out there who feel the same way and who share my squee and create art based around them. I'm thankful to be able to meet fandom people in real life and have them be just as awesome whether it be Vividcon or a local friend. I am thankful of all the things I've learned in fandom and all the ways fandom has helped mold me as a person as I grew up and helped influence me so positively.

So thank you Flist and I hope to be back with you soon!

Nominate Fandom's Hottest Characters. Choose three of your hottest characters of all time. For the record, this is impossible for me to have any kind of rankings but I chose Brian Kinney (that was easy actually), Stringer Bell and Irina Derevko. I was trying to go based on hot rather than favorite/cute/sexy/most awesome (although my nominees all qualify there too).

The Organization For Transformative Works (of which I am a member :))is hosting an online con full of fannish celebration at [livejournal.com profile] otw_onlinecon in honor of being one year old with challenges, panels, events and more. Go check it out!

[livejournal.com profile] trollprincess is holding a talk about awesome female characters day here. It was great reading about many of my favorite characters and I talked about the awesomeness that is Irina Derevko.

After this article about why women don't like sci-fi which is mostly bullshit IMO, here's a poll about women and sci-fi with over 1000 women liking sci-fi, thank you very much. I love sci-fi because I love good characters and stories which sci-fi has many including exploring interesting themes in unique ways that are hard to explore in other genres.

EW's List of the 25 Funniest People in Entertainment. They got a lot right including Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Will Arnett and Amy Poelher and David Cross. I would also include the writers of The Office especially Mindy Kaling and Paul Lieberstein.

EW's List of great Ugly Betty quips I love this show.

Some brief TV thoughts:

Spoilers for the latest Ugly Betty )

Spoilers for the latest Grey's Anatomy )

Spoilers for the Supernatural finale )

Spoilers for the How I Met Your Mother finale )

I absolutely loved the House finale and it totally made me cry but I will talk about it at length later.

Happy Belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sundancekid! It's been a pleasure having you on my Flist and I always enjoy reading your posts :)

First things first, Vividcon registration is tomorrow! They open at 12 PM EST tomorrow here and I would strongly urge anyone who wants to go to get up early, have alarms in place (you can download computer alarms if needed!) and register immediately because it's probably going to sell out really fast even ten minute fast, who knows. I can't recommend Vividcon enough for anyone who loves vids. It's SO MUCH fun. There's the Premieres show and other vidshows with both new and old vids showing, really interesting vidding panels that help for both creating and watching vids, Club Vivid with lots of fun dancing to vids and many great fans who LOVE vids and create a friendly, enthusiastic and vid positive atmosphere. I've had the time of my life both times I went and for me it's worth all the money in the world. I would urge everyone interested to go!

Late on this but just in case anyone hasn't seen, the New To Me Vid Watching Challenge has a lot of great vid recs of some vids you may not have seen before. Hopefully soon I'll compile my own big rec list I've been meaning to do.

In light of Alias, I'm curious about what people think are the best and worst TV show pilots and finales. Especially relative to the overall quality of the show as a whole. What do you think makes a good Pilot and Finale? Here's a poll if you'd like to answer and I'd love any comments if you'd like to elaborate why (without spoilers preferred).

[Poll #1131677]

Also, here's a meme:
Name a fandom I'm into and I will tell you:

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t:
4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
5. The character I would shag anytime:
6. The character I'd want to be like:
7. The character I'd slap:
8. A pairing that I love:
9. A pairing that I despise:
10. Favorite character:
11. What are your five favorite things about your fandom?
12. What are your five least favorite things about your fandom?
13. Who are your five favorite characters?
14. Who are your five least favorite characters?
15. What are your five favorite pairings?

Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] xandra_ptv! It is cool to share a birthday with such a great vidder :)

So today I finally turn 20 and I'm officially an adult or something like it. It's a nice feeling. I can remember back when I turned 10 and I was all excited about being in double digits. I'm celebrating by having a completely relaxing day from getting enough sleep to reading my Flist to watching Dirty Sexy Money and Little Miss Sunshine (finally get to see my new shiny DVD!) which I love incredibly much. And now I have the rest of my presents including Whose Line is it Anyway S1 Volume 2 DVD, Serenity Collector's Edition, Friday Night Lights S1 and Ugly Betty S1. And I should be getting House S1 soon. Mmmmm DVDs. Also, cake! Yummy. And I am looking forward to new episodes of The Office (Launch Party is my party!), Ugly Betty, Supernatural and Grey's Anatomy which should hopefully be happy making. Yay TV and Office Day!

It's definitely been a growing year for me with lots of changes. I've made some mistakes and had some hard times but I learned a lot from them and I feel a lot more confident these days. I'm feeling less completely unsure about my career direction and taking a break from college is definitely helping me feel more excited about going back and really getting a liberal arts education and pursuing my passions next time. I am feeling incredibly thankful of the friends I have in varying degrees of closeness and am just happy to feel generally supported in different ways. I have so many ideas and goals for the future and I'm really looking forward to getting started on them not to mention watching TV shows and crossing out shows on my long list. I really need to start vidding more and hopefully I can stop procrastinating and get to it as I need a good creative outlet. At the moment I'm just feeling good that I feel that I know who I am and where I'm going (California! but also in a metaphoric sense) and I can't wait to explore the world more.

Being 20 is definitely very nice. As was my special day. Thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes! They were very much appreciated. And special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] stephmck who wrote me a very cute Office double drabble here. I love Michael *hearts him* Only one more year until I'm 21! And can actually get into 21 and over places (*cough* Improv Olympic *cough*) Hopefully it'll be a successful year for me.

First some links:

Sweet Charity: Fandom auction where you can bid on fic, graphics, vids, apparel and other things in order to get that idea you've always wanted made. There are over 200 people for sale offering their talents and the form is searchable by fandom in order to find people who are offering your fandom. Already it's raised $9000 dollars for RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest Network) and last year it raised over 10,000. But don't be scared by that price, you can still get good deals on talented fans. The auction ends on September 22nd (be sure to check the times as its GMT) so be sure to get your bids in by then! If that doesn't enourage you: ...it's for charity. And I consider myself a great philanderer.

Character Study Challenge: In LJ a lot of times characters get ignored in favor of relationships. [livejournal.com profile] bop_radar is hosting a Character Study challenge and there is a long list of prompts for characters on a diverse list of shows. All fanworks from fic, vids, meta and fanart are accepted so if you're looking for inspiration you have plenty of prompts (of which some are my own) to choose from. Submissions are due by October 6th.

Vid Rec: Only Disappear: This is a Due South vid, Fraser/Victoria. You may think after seeing Icebound Stream, you don't need to see another Fraser/Victoria vid but this one is beautifully done and deserves to be watched. It uses all the great imagery those two episodes provided along with great facial expressions to really make your heart break for Fraser as well as Victoria. It does a great job of matching the music and visuals as well. I haven't had the time to see a lot of vidders work that I don't know but I'm so glad I watched this one. Leave feedback if you can!

I had a lot of plans for the last two days since I have them off. However they all fell away when I started watching The Wire. I've finished the first season in two days (all 13 hour long episodes) because I could not stop watching. This is definitely the best show fandom isn't watching. Technically it's a cop show but unlike most cop shows it's not episodic and has a season long storyline that is wonderfully spread out to keep you watching to find out what happens. It also includes the perspective of the drug dealers and drug addicts the police are trying to stop which gives it a big layer and is much more interesting because of it. It's very realistic and doesn't stay away from showing the *bad* in all people as well as the good. Plus the diversity of the cast is amazing and much more realistic than most shows set in big cities (Baltimore is a very real character in the show). Somehow you become really connected to the characters without knowing it which gives you a great emotional aspect to the show.

And perhaps most impressive it doesn't give easy answers or happy Hollywood endings. I watched it in part for the social commentary it provides and I'm mainly really looking forward to season 4 with the education theme. David Simon and Ed Burns have a lot of experience in Baltimore and with the many players in the city and do a great job of seeing a lot of sides of the issues and giving it a true to life feel. David in a commentary described the show as about the American city which interests me especially going to LA (in November!!). I am just so impressed at how GOOD the show is and would highly recommend it to everyone. It may not be your cup of tea but the pilot alone (the whole thing as half of it failed to hook me a few months back) needs to be checked out.

[Current Mood |excited]

There are so many posts I'm not going to have time to do before Vividcon. It's so frustrating sometimes to me that I can't just take all my thoughts and have something to convert them into writing. I will eventually post about many things including something about International Blog Against Raciscm week. It sucks that it's this week has I probably won't have time at Vividcon and I'm not going to be able to write a real post until probably the 14th. But I encourage everyone to write something if you'd like!

I don't want to say too much about the whole Livejournal/Six Apart debacle but everything you need to know about it is here. At the moment, I LOVE fandom and it's my community and I believe in the principles of it. I used to love Livejournal and believe in it because I loved the structure and thought it supported us but I guess I was wrong. I believe in freedom of speech and of art and even if LJ doesn't have to support that since it's a business, it should at least try to leave fictional characters alone. Most importantly they've handled it all wrong AGAIN, this time letting the uncertainty go on for five days and having their CEO or whoever make mean-spirited comments. Suspending people without warning is a humongous stupid move if you ask me. I think this random suspensions will probably keep going on and making me more and more angry at LJ so at this point I just hate them and am indifferent to them now. It's a wake up call that we do need our own fannish space and it seems unrealistic right now but I think in five years or so once we build up a fannish infrastructure somewhere else, we can do it. We also need to change the laws to get them to leave fictional art and writing alone. I'm anoel43 on GreatestJournal and anoel on InsaneJournal and all my info is up at Fandom 411 which I encourage everyone to add their LJ names and links up at. All my fanvids are also up at Fanworks Finder which I encourage everyone to add all their fannish stuff (fic, art, vids, meta) links to.

In much better news, VIVIDCON tomorrow!!! I can't believe it's finally here. It's so surreal. Seems like just yesterday I was saying 364 days until the next Pretzel Day next Vividcon and now I finally made it. I completed my goal of having a Premieres vid in although next year I'll be sure not to procrastinate on it and get it in early. My VVC goal is to try to speak a few times during the panels, possibly at Vid Review if I'm brave enough. I'm rooming with [livejournal.com profile] noirrobin who is a Vividcon first timer but super nice and awesome and of course, loves vids so I hope everyone will be really welcoming to her! As I said, I'll be at the hotel around 11:30 AM tomorrow and will just welcome everyone and hang out with people until check in. I'm usually kind of introverted/shy but VVC makes me want to see people as much as possible so I'll try to be as social as I can. I don't have much in the way of lunch/dinner plans so I'm willing to eat with anyone. Hugs are always good, no need to ask and I truly can't wait to see everyone and talk with people again.

I'll see everyone in Chicago! OMG VIVIDCON!!!

[Current Music |vids]

So I'm back in NY with my family after my first year of college. I miss California a LOT. It's not just the weather as it's been beautiful here but that sense of freedom and adventure and newness. Not to mention there being nothing to do here reminding me how much I hate it. Sick of my family in a week as was to be expected. But I LOVE my cats and that helps. Also I got my laptop back to working :D I hadn't realized how much I missed it until I had that freedom of my own computer and being able to save everything, download and go on it as much as I want. I've been really bad with commenting lately and I apologize. I'll try to get better at that.

In regards to fandom, well I'll hopefully have a roundup of all the finales up soon. More importantly, I'm sure most of you have already heard all about the Livejournal Strikethrough 2007 debacle that's going on but if you haven't, check out the link here that'll give you a good summary and lots of links. In short, a group called Warriors For Innocence (and possibly others), in their quest to stop pedophiles and other evils threaten Six Apart/Livejournal to shut down journals which list things like incest, rape and whatnot in their interests and not only take down a few communities that needed to be taken down but suspend communities and users based on fictional interest, rpg characters and a Spanish community dicussing Lolita. WTH LJ. Of course it was for legal pressures and all about money as usual but the lack of discretion or warning for the difference between fictional and real is disturbing. No matter your involvement in fandom, remember this: Even more scary are PR comments made not to LJ's customers but the media:

"Our decision here was not based on pure legal issues," countered Six Apart's Berkowitz. "It was based on what community we want to build and what we think is appropriate within that community and what's not. We have an awful broad range of discussions and topics and other things going on in LiveJournal, and we encourage other broad-ranging conversations on all sorts of topics. This was a specific case where we felt there was not a reason (for these journals to stay online)."

When someone starts trying to decide what is appropriate, I know there's a problem. It may not be a freedom of speech issue in terms of the law but I always thought of Livejournal as a place to freely express my thoughts and stories with many people who would do the same and this violates my trust in the site and service I paid for. That's part of where the moral outrage is coming from, I think, at least for me. I hope this blows over and LJ apologizes and makes amends by unsuspending fandom accounts not to mention real life support groups and the like although I'm not too hopeful at the moment. It feels to me that this is quickly turning into a Heroes plot with fandom being the exploding man if 6Apart/LJ doesn't do something to diffuse the situation. In the meantime, take off anything illegal from your interests (and no wincest is not illegal as the very definition is about two fictional characters), backup your journals with LJarchive or a similar serive, join [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts to be counted a member of fandom (I've always wanted to see how many people were in fandom) and create a backup journal at GreatestJournal or a similar LJ like site. I'm anoel43 at GreatestJournal as anoel got taken before I could snatch it up (still anoel on Vox though). I hope there isn't a migration but I'm not exactly trusting LJ anymore.

In the end, fandom will survive. We will continue creating fanfic, fanart, fanvids, meta, episode reactions and lots of squee. We're do gen, het, slash, incest, chan, underage and every other boundary breaking thing no matter what the world tries to do. You can't stop the signal.

After all that, go check out the Picspam of Hotties that includes many, many pages of many of our favorite characters and actors being as hot as they possibly can. It definitely cheers me up. Here's my selection under the cut (warning for big pics):

Mmmm goodness )

And with that I will go back to marathoning Scrubs S5 as I am completely, head over heels in love with the show.

I leave for a day (Disneyland=FUN) and of course something big happens. I just found out that [livejournal.com profile] thamiris died. We didn't know each other that well but she would always write the most beautiful writing that I had ever read and I always looked forward to reading a post from her. I loved her intelligent SV meta and the way she could make anything sexy and have that come across in words so well. And when I did leave a comment she was always so nice to me. I've never had anyone on my Flist die before and it's just horrible that it happened. I'm amazed by her writing talent, I still consider her the most beautiful writer ever. As an example:

I do love the slippery flow of poetry, the sighing puffed breath from the rounded belly of an a, the clanging of c's thrown horseshoe, the broken gasp of t's dying cross. Words never cease to stun me, even the simple sounds of each individual letter. Truly, humanity's greatest feat has been the invention of the alphabet, with its lullaby cadence and divine powers. -Thamiris

There's nothing like the warm sun shining down each day. And these vid ideas need to get out of my head cause they're driving me crazy.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Also Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] melina123 and Happy Belated Birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] cereta and [livejournal.com profile] tinamishi!

I am so much more thankful today than I was last year and that makes me incredibly happy. It's my first Thanksgiving in California and I spent it with some relatives I have around here who were nice and provided good food and football watching. I'm thankful for everyday waking up to feel warm sunshine in my face and for being in the beautiful state of California. I'm thankful for being out of high school and in college where freedom, learning, creativity and kindness reign. I'm thankful for being away from my parents but having a much better relationship with them because of it. I'm thankful for my cats who I miss ridiculously but who I just appreciate more. I'm thankful for all the friends I have, from the ones I talk to everyday to the ones I talk to once and awhile to the ones in my past. I'm thankful for my precious laptop and iPod and all of the wonderful books, music, tv, movies and other things I have available to me. I am oh so thankful to the internet that allows me to connect with so many people and find out so much information. I'm thankful for fandom, for vidding and vids, for ships and fic and for this amazing community we have here. I'm thankful to be alive, to be more independent and to have an idea of who I am and who I want to be.

That's what life is all about.

A meme in the spirit of the holiday: Comment with your username and I will tell you why I'm thankful to have you on my flist. Or just thankful for you in general. And then post in your own journal if you would like to share the thankfulness! (If you wish to opt out on this part, it's quite alright.)

Okay, here's my entry in the fandom relationships meme:

Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain! It was great to meet and talk to you at Vividcon :) Also belated Happy Birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] vagabondage, [livejournal.com profile] astartexx, [livejournal.com profile] fairshare, [livejournal.com profile] sarah_p and [livejournal.com profile] ckll!

So Bascon was lots of fun. I definitely needed that (although not the hellish transportation experience but I'm trying to forget about that). It was so wonderful to see some people from Vividcon (including [livejournal.com profile] permetaform, [livejournal.com profile] lierduoma, [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro, [livejournal.com profile] morgandawn, [livejournal.com profile] fashes, [livejournal.com profile] paraviondeux and [livejournal.com profile] falzalot) again, have lots of vidtalk and see a vid show. The panels were all interesting and fun to listen to (I did say a few things so yay courage!) with my favorites probably being the Supernatural and Race in Fandom ones. And Vid Review of course. Part of my goal for the con was to not miss Vividcon as much (9 more months!) and it did help to get some fannish and vidtalk interaction. Also I checked out San Francisco which I loved, very different feel from LA but lots of cool things to see like the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square. Now I can't wait for Escapade in February :)

I voted for the first time last Tuesday in beautiful California *loves state some more* I'll forgive you even if you did reelect Schwarzenegger. More importantly, Democrats won the House and Senate! Yay! Normally I hate politics because I despise the hatefulness, bashing and dishonesty that goes on for both sides and it often depresses me of the state of the nation. But I've been so happy and optimistic about it lately and have actually read some news articles about it. It's just a refreshing change from 2004 when reading my Flist depressed me and now I'm just bathing in the positive. The bipartisan spirit that's going on gives me so much hope. I really am an idealist at heart.

At my college, during them month of January we have an interterm where you can take a course, travel or just stay home. I'm definitely staying in California as there's NO WAY on earth I'd deal with a month of cold weather since that's why I came here in the first place. Besides this is home although I will admit that I like my parents a LOT more when I'm away from them (especially when they send money hehe). Also, my roommate is staying home so if any of you want to come down to SoCal and stay with me (for FREE), consider yourself invited :) Anyways during January, I've decided on just taking tennis and no academic course as I really need a break from the academic obligations. But I'm totally making up my own course which will be Vidding 101 otherwise known as heaven. I even made up a description for it!

Vidding 101: This course explores vidding through a variety of methods, both theoretical and applied. Traditional reading selections will include material on film theory and aesthetics, editing, color and movement, music, narrative theory, rhetoric and other applicable topics. Internet readings include a wide range of vid meta that more directly addresses the topic. Theoretical readings will be applied to viewings of a wide variety of vids, from a diverse selection of fandoms and vidders. Written responses include both short and long feedback, vid recs with descriptions, personal reflections on vidding, commentary on personal work and original vid meta writings. Siginificant time will be spent vidding to vids in different stages of development and applying concepts learned to the vids in progress. Other supplemental activities include watching shows that vids are made from to understand the context and improve the general vid watching experience.

I'm so excited! *looks forward to January* Ok, here's the Six Random Facts Meme as I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] dualbunny and [livejournal.com profile] maddie508
Once tagged by this entry, the assignment is to write a blog entry of some kind with six random facts about yourself. Then, pick six of your friends and tag them; no tag backs. This explanation should be included. I'm not tagging anyone, do it if you'd like.

1. My most precious possessions is my laptop, video iPod and external hard drive. I'd save them first from a fire anytime.
2. I can be very absentminded and lose a lot of things. This semester I've lost my room key twice and my mailbox three times although I found it two of those times.
3. Ridiculous is my favorite word. Because it's fun to say and because the entire "Ridiculously Romantic" B/J scene is my favorite scene ever. Second goes to California as I love saying it and being here.
4. I have a hard time coming up with things at the top of my head which is making this meme hard for me. I like to read things and then make connections to my own life (which I believe is my Ne ie extroverted intuition showing).
5. I love sports such as football, basketball (just found out my favorite player, Hakin Warrick is doing well!), soccer, tennis (Roger Federer and Peter Sampras are my favorite players), skiing (what I'm doing Thanksgiving weekend at Big Bear or Mammoth) and ice skating which I'm going to do next Thursday. I love that adrenaline rush.
6. I am still hopelessly behind. My problem is I set a big task ahead of me and don't allow myself to do other work before that but then just procrastinate on doing it by doing fun stuff. Le sigh.

Off to reply to posts and watch Firefly. I love Saturdays.

Spring Break [Apr. 9th, 2006|08:18 pm]

[Current Music |"Out Here" by Peter Mulvey]
[Current Mood |content]

So its finally Spring Break and boy do I need it. I plan on spending it by watching lots of TV shows (mostly Due South and Buffy), reading, vidding and of course, sleeping. I may even try my hand at a bit of writing, not sure.

I'm trying to see if I can finish most of the episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer this week as I've only seen random episodes and vids for the show and figured I need to get the whole experience. Compared to Firefly, I do struuggle a bit with really identifying and loving the characters but I do relate to Willow somewhat and like all the characters, especially Giles and later I love Spike. I will say though, that Angel looks sooo much younger in the first season and that it makes him so much hotter. He's so pretty and has the whole mysterious thing going for him. Speaking of pretty, Fraser has reached the top of that scale for me. I'm on the sixth episode now and I keep repeating how beautiful he is. In that pure, utterly gorgeous and angelic type way. Definitely one of my favorite characters of all time as I can't help falling for his good character and honor and cuteness. And I love all his different environment pain and naivity to the ways of Chicago. Fraser and Vecchio are just too cute together, really funny and although I'm more behind them in a friendship with a light side of slash way, they definitely have their moments. I'm looking forward to the Fraser/RayK episodes though, after falling in love with them by seeing Burning Down the House and Eclipse and am now restraining myself to stay in order. And it is here where I have to rec one of my favorite videos from [livejournal.com profile] heres_luck, "Out here" which shows Fraser's pain so well but also has an amazing sequence with so many emotional stages and final victory. It's blows me away everytime. Also another rec for a story for Fraser/RayK would be one of my favorites, Heavy Bag by [livejournal.com profile] katallison that gets to me everytime I read it. And while your there, End of the Road is one of the most amazing stories I've ever read.

Speaking of fic recs, I just read one of my favorite fics ever that's gotten me back into Duncan/Methos and fic reading. Check out Straight and Low by [livejournal.com profile] lastrega. Found it randomly and got hooked with its funniness and it being incredibly HOT. Some fics just hit my kinks *perfectly*. Walls and seducing always get to me and this one did not disappoint. So now I'm back into DM/M and planning on seriously working on my video that I planned for them last fall. It'll be much better now since I can use my dvds to vid. And I have another vid idea for them which I think could turn out well. Duncan/Methos vid ideas don't come to me very often but when they do, they hit hard. It feels like the song is made for the ship and the voice just calls to me that its completely them. Really want to vid them now, overtaking the two vids that I actually wanted to work on this break. But I don't mind, I just need to vid and stop doing nothing. It's been too long since I seriously undertook it. This couple is actually the one that I'm going to try to write for. We'll see what happens there.

On another note, I got into Chapman University with good financial aid and a nice scholarship and I think I might be going there. Having a great film school right there is extremely tempting...

ETA: I am reeeally excited for VividCon. I can't believe I'm going and that I'll have a chance to be around tons of vid meta, new videos and amazing vidders. Sounds like heaven to me.

Sophomore Slump [Jan. 29th, 2006|02:52 am]

[Current Music |"The Wings" from the BBM soundtrack]
[Current Mood |contemplative]

So I guess the sophomore slump phenomenen really is true. It seems that most of the shows I've watched have been struck with it in one way or another. A recap:

Thoughts on Seasons 1-2 in shows of Veronica Mars, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Lost, Queer as Folk, The OC, Smallville under the cut )

So my conclusion for why the sophomore slump occurs? I think the writers develop a great setup in the beginning and plan that out for the season and then are left out of ideas for the next. They carry the first season too much into the second and cause the second season to lack its own focus. As ideas are used up, the storylines become a bit too much like the old ones. Less time is taken for friendly character interaction and as characters get on the wrong sides of each other, it becomes harder for good feelings to prevail. Characters change to the point that we start losing the love we had for who they were in the first place. New characters can keep the original ones apart and take away the core of the show instead of adding freshness.

I find it ironic that people overlook things about the first season for the reason that the show is finding its legs but yet the first season is often better than the first. And the third season can go either way, good or bad. Here's hoping that my shows will turn out on the good side. Or else new better pilot shows will rise to take their place.

[Current Music |"Brighter than Sunshine" by Aqualung]
[Current Mood |awake]

So I saw the fandom meme going around and decided to just fill it in myself for a bunch of my fandoms. Always fun to think about.

Firefly
1. The character I first fell in love with: Mal. Obviously. Was in love with him from the beginning and was oh so happy to find a Joss character that I was hopelessly in love with.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: That'd be Zoe. Watching the series again, I'm liking her more and more whereas at first she seemed a bit one dimensional to me.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: River. I enjoy her funny lines but am meh about the crazy girl stuff. She did get better in the movie but I still don't get the love.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Um...do people hate characters in this fandom?
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Well I still have a bit of love left but I'm liking Simon less than I did before. I got caught up in the hotness before but he can be a bit of an idiot although it is perfect to make fun of. Although he's great in Ariel.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Mal. Guhh. He is to die for.
7. The character I'd want to be like: Mal definitely. I'm a lot like Kaylee but it'd be fun to be more like her as well. Also it'd be cool to be like Zoe.
8. The character I'd slap: Probably Simon for being so easy to fool. But in a good way.
9. A pairing that I love: Anything with Mal except Book and River ie Mal/Simon, Mal/Jayne, Mal/Kaylee, Mal/Zoe, Mal/Inara, etc. Also I like Jayne/Simon and Jayne/Kaylee.
10. A pairing that I despise: There's none that I really hate, just don't get a few. Not into River so anything with her, I'm not into. Didn't use to like Wash/Zoe but I'm warming up to them.

More (Veronica Mars, Grey's Anatomy, Queer as Folk, Highlander, Nip/Tuck) under the cut )
