I voted. [Nov. 4th, 2008|12:37 pm]

[Current Music |"Yes We Can" by will.i.am]

So today I voted in my first presidential election. It's such a milestone to finally be able to do that. The best part is I voted for Barack Obama, the (hopefully) first African American president of the United States who I support and believe in with all my heart, mind and soul. It was quick for me, took about five minutes long with no line but it was still glorious and monumental and just SO NICE. Just pulling those levers made me feel so proud and happy that I, we finally made it here and are making this happen. I got all emotional because this is actually amazingly finally happening. Wow. Just wow.

As I say, I don't vote because my vote matters but because it matters that I vote. It matters for Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Stanton and all the women who worked for the vote and all those who didn't have it. It matters for the African Americans who couldn't vote, for the young people who can't vote, for the people without property that once couldn't vote and for the people from other countries who this election effects but who can't vote. It matters for anyone who has ever been denied the right to vote. So no matter who you vote for, I urge everyone reading this to vote.

Tonight I'm working and thankfully missing the election night craziness (and not House) but hopefully by the time I get home, the election will be decided for Obama. And hopefully I'll have a much happier Flist tomorrow then I did four years ago. Can we call tomorrow More Joy Day if he wins? Cause it definitely will be.

So last Monday, [livejournal.com profile] lianri and me went on a small road trip to get to Chester, PA to see Barack Obama in a rally and although we braved snow and rain and long lines, it was all so worth it to see him. Basically the driving in snow storms, freezing in the relentless rain and waiting for 5 hours is forgotten in my mind when I remember his speech and being with a rallying group of Obama fans and just seeing him so close. We got there at 5 am or so when there was about twenty people ahead of us. The best part was playing an Office quote game I made up where one of us would say an Office quote and then the other would have to name the character who said it, who they said it to and the episode it was from. We both did quite well actually although I'm a bit rusty from my old knowledge. We didn't get any pictures besides us in line as they said we couldn't take any which we later found out was a lie. But we were only two rows from the front so it was okay in the end.

After waiting through other speeches, he finally came out and he looked just beautiful even in jeans and a jacket. It was so surreal to finally see him live, to hear him speak with his amazing voice and words and to be more inspired than I ever have by a politician speaking. He made me forget all about the cold and rain and *believe* in him and change and the possibility of a better future. It was exhilarating. I still can't believe it actually happened, it feels like a dream but it was worth all the money. Once he was done with the speech (it's online probably), he came around to shake people's hands. I was *inches*, centimeters away from shaking his hand but basically I came that far to touching him as someone else got the handshake. Ah well. After all that, nothing could take away my happiness. I was just jumping around in a happy high. After seeing snow for the first time I had been really depressed but he reminded me that I could overcome that just like this country can overcome all the horrible things we go through. YES WE CAN.

In other good news, I have my computer back! Fixed it on Saturday/Sunday and have most everything working well again. Now trying to catch up on TV and the like, so far Pushing Daisies, Heroes and Gossip Girl have been a lot of fun. Hard drive next week and then much vidding fun follows. And I'm happily aglow with all the great vids that have come out in the last few weeks not to mention I just finished Smallville S7 a few days ago so I finally saw a bunch of vids I haven't seen before for fears of spoilers. Gah vidders are so amazing.

Go vote!

VIVIDCON OMGOMGOMG [Aug. 14th, 2008|12:29 am]

[Current Mood |bouncy]

OMG it's VIVIDCON tomorrow!!! The last few days I've had big bursts of excitement and now I just cannot contain it and I'm super hyper and bouncy and high because I'm going to be at VIVIDCON tomorrow!!! I've been dancing and running to try to let it out but that's just making it worse. Oh god, so much energy and I still have stuff to do. Like pack!

For the record, I will be at the hotel anywhere from 3:30-4 as my flight arrives at 3 PM. My cellphone number is the same and it's turned on and everything so feel free to call me whenever. On the agenda, seeing everyone (HUGS!!!), working out with [livejournal.com profile] counteragent and seeing the vidding documentary. And there's going to be Veronica Mars, Doctor Who, Middleman and Slings and Arrows room parties that I'm excited for. Oh and I've got my Club Vivid outfit for the year! It works for me, can't wait to dance to all the new vids :D I can't wait to see everyone times INFINITY! I miss you all. And seriously, I want to talk and hang out with everyone! I don't care if I don't know you at all, vidlove connects us all as does fandom and I always like to meet new people at VVC. And anyones welcome to hang out with me at any time!

Okay my LJ addon just announced it's Vividcon's birthday this Friday! Six years old, how cool is that? My mind is so hyper right now, I keep going from one thing to another. It doesn't help that I saw a promo with JILLIAN in it during the Olympics and so now I'm crazy excited for that. Too many things!

I'm also watching 27 shows this fall for sure. And up to 10 (or more?) new shows will be tried out. Have I mentioned I'm crazy? Hahaha good. I keep seeing promos during the Olympics of shows that I'm watching and it makes me so happy. Especially The Office ones. I love fall TV!

So I've been trying to catch up with Smallville and I'm only at the beginning of S7 but gah, when did this show get so bad? I just...the dialogue is so horrible, I'm sorry. It makes me laugh a lot especially when I predict what they say. Lex is still smoking hot thankfully and Lionel is a wonderful magnificent bastard (LOVED that scene with him and Martha in the end of S6) but I'm mostly meh about everyone else. Kudos to Lana in the season premiere though. I thought the storylines in S6 were kind of meh but this season is just putting me to sleep for the most part. Except for super hot newspaper guy. And oh god, Clana. I want to KILL MYSELF because of them. Barf, barf and more barf. Most hated onscreen canon couple times a BILLION. Didn't Al Gough or whoever promised no more Clana? Stupid liars. I went from closing my eyes, to skipping their scenes to having to turn an episode off it was so bad. Look, in S1 it was kind of cute sometimes in a infatuated first love kind of way. In season 7? It's LAME. They're 22 for godsake! Change in subject, Lex is HOT. I remember why I fell in love with him back in the day. I feel bad for MR though, I can see why he wants to get off the show. And as for KK well, I watched Sugar the other day and that says it all in terms of her characters. I'm so sick of the pedestal and the boys revolving around her life. Just get rid of all of them and be your own person! God.

Anyways, back to the squee. Vividcon in 12 hours OMG! Once a year this happens and it sneaks up on me after the long wait and then I get there and I wish it would never ever end. I mean it needs to because I have a billion things to do from vidding, watching new vids, feedbacking, reccing, etc but still, it's heaven. I promised myself I would never miss it barring a catastrophe so every time I go, it feels so good to be there. This is it guys. The big one. The one we've all been waiting for. /Oliver Wood. I can see the hotel so vividly in my mind, it'll always be my favorite with the staircase and the con rooms and House O'Meat and the big lobby and the elevator *recalls it fondly* Does anyone know what time breakfast begins and ends? *jealous of everyone already there* New vids in two days OMG! This is going to be amaaaazing.

Vid LOVE forever and I'll see everyone soon!

Lots of Random [Mar. 5th, 2008|05:27 pm]

The Office is renewed for next year with 30 episodes! Hopefully most will be half hour ones this time. But more Office is always a good thing for me :D

I just found out that we get HBO here so I can watch The Wire series finale live! I am so excited. My first time ever!

So apparently Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk are both leaving Smallvile next year. Which just means I don't have to watch Smallville next season (once I'm caught up with 6th and 7th...) because without Lex, my interest in the show dies completely. Especially since I still don't like Clark. I've been holding out for the show since there's still this Clark/Lex vid I want to do for the show at some point which I've had in mind for like five years now.

For the few people who watch it: Skins 204: Michelle )

So I started watching Rome last night with [livejournal.com profile] lianri and I'm really loving it. Mostly because I have a ship! Titus/Lucius are soooo boyfriends. I love the looks between them, the funny, the banter and oh, everything. And I've only watched three episodes! I love the political stuff as well which is interesting since my knowledge of Roman history is fuzzy. I recognized Kevin McKidd and couldn't quite place him, first reminding me of the Primeval main character and then figuring out he's the lead actor from Journeyman (which is fitting because Primeval guy reminded me of him. Which I only saw the Pilot of but he's sooo much hotter in this show which just goes to show how much personality can help a character. Also Suzie from Torchwood is in it so that was cool.

Project Runway finale tonight! I am so excited to see the collections and who wins. I'm completely unspoiled so it should be a surprise.

Vidding and TV Memes [Jan. 15th, 2008|03:51 pm]

[Current Music |The Wire S4 theme]

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] klia! I love your vids and think you are a kind and awesome person :) And yes, I'm going to try to do these this year since I will hopefully be posting more.

Know what's wonderful? Being out all day (including reading some interesting/inspiring books in the local bookstore) only to come home to read my amazing Flist. Just reading LJ, reading comments and seeing lots of vidding love puts me in such an awesome mood as I saw once again yesterday. It's just nice reading about so many things I'm interested in and that feels like *home* to me in a community way. I love it and don't know what I did before fandom.

If you haven't seen by now (have you been living under a rock?), the The Great Vidding Truth Meme is going around again where you can tell listed vidders anonymously what you think of their vids including (and encouragingly) constructive criticism. My thread is here and I would LOVE to receive any comments especially any thoughts on how I can improve as I'm always looking to get better. But everything is definitely appreciated. So if you'd like to make any comments on any vidders work and maybe find some new vidders, it's a great place for it. I really love to read the various opinions on vidders' work, it's always interesting to see what people think.

That Television Meme which I had to do as they used some Office quotes for titles )

Speaking of TV theme song, I am in LOVE with the S4 theme of The Wire. I can listen to it over and over for hours nonstop. It's just so emotionally resonant especially with the singers. I uploaded it here if anyone needs it. Also, does anyone have the Due South theme with words that I could download? I only have the instrumental and the words make all the difference in this case.

Sophomore Slump [Jan. 29th, 2006|02:52 am]

[Current Music |"The Wings" from the BBM soundtrack]
[Current Mood |contemplative]

So I guess the sophomore slump phenomenen really is true. It seems that most of the shows I've watched have been struck with it in one way or another. A recap:

Thoughts on Seasons 1-2 in shows of Veronica Mars, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Lost, Queer as Folk, The OC, Smallville under the cut )

So my conclusion for why the sophomore slump occurs? I think the writers develop a great setup in the beginning and plan that out for the season and then are left out of ideas for the next. They carry the first season too much into the second and cause the second season to lack its own focus. As ideas are used up, the storylines become a bit too much like the old ones. Less time is taken for friendly character interaction and as characters get on the wrong sides of each other, it becomes harder for good feelings to prevail. Characters change to the point that we start losing the love we had for who they were in the first place. New characters can keep the original ones apart and take away the core of the show instead of adding freshness.

I find it ironic that people overlook things about the first season for the reason that the show is finding its legs but yet the first season is often better than the first. And the third season can go either way, good or bad. Here's hoping that my shows will turn out on the good side. Or else new better pilot shows will rise to take their place.

First Video: Smallville, "Walk Away" [Jan. 10th, 2006|06:28 pm]

[Current Music |"Walk Away (acoustic) by Mad at Gravity]

I found the first video that I ever made, Walk Away. I had never heard of fanvideos and then I found Cindy's (http://www.unexpected-fate.net/lovestories/) Lex/Lana videos and I was amazed. I just had to try one of my own and after finding a couple good video resources (the Anime Music Video guides, [livejournal.com profile] bonibaru's guide and Lynn's guide), I started working on one in the fall of 2002. It took me hours to do and being a perfectionist, I kept correcting things until I liked it. It was finally finished in January 2003 and I was very happy to get a lot of good comments on it. Anyways, here's the info on it:

Name: Walk Away
Song: "Walk Away" by Mad at Gravity
Pairing: Lex/Lana
Source: Smallville, seasons 1 and 2
Size: 5.7 MB
Link: Streaming

Author notes: Seeing it again shows me that although I recognized some cool musical things, I have more of a tendency to follow the lyrics and try to use as many of my ideas as possible. I thankfully managed keep the pacing up and I was helped by choosing (what I think) is a good song. Sometime soon I'm going to go back and use better clips, remastering the whole thing. All in all, it was fun to make and it still is to watch even if it makes me nostalgic.

Feedback is always appreciated :)

[Current Music |"Take me out" by Franz Ferdinand]

Today was my lucky day as two of my favorite sports players/teams won and did well. The lovely man in my icon, Roger Federer pulled off a wonderful win over Hewitt in the U.S Open, 6-0, 7-6, 6-0. The first set was a true work of beauty as he was playing at the top of his game leaving me to drool at all the gorgeous shots. The second set was a little disappointing with the unforced errors and missed first serves but there were some great points played there and he did get out of trouble by acing a lot, following his and my idol, Pete Sampras's precedent. And the third set was the icing on the cake, in a delicious end. I just love how he transcends the boring power games of the other players (minus Henmen, who's style I do like) and plays the real art of tennis. Some words to describe his style of play, some mentioned by the announcers: beautiful, elegant, smooth, graceful, makes it look easy, silky, amazing and the list goes on and on. Roger is definitely the true champion of tennis. Not only him, but the Philly Eagles won in football :D My homeboy Donovan was excellent in his game and Terrell Owens was a great receiver for him. They better win the Superbowl this year, I don't know if I can take another disappointment.

Onto my show scedule for this year:

Fall TV season schedule behind cut, slight spoilers within )
Basically the new tv season is one of the best things about fall.
