So I wrote up some vid recs this year. Most of the vids this year were well done but not all of them connected with me personally so I limited myself to just the vids I truly love and will be watching over and over. Obviously those were affected by fandom and song choice but they're all amazing vids that I highly recommend. Here they are:

Run Boy Run (Game of Thrones) by [personal profile] hollywoodgrrl:
THIS VID IS PERFECT! I don't know if I've ever been blown away by a Premieres vid as much as this one and I still am completely in awe of it. There is SO much depth here and even if you haven't seen Game of Thrones, the editing is SO FUCKING AWESOME that it's still worth seeing multiple times. This fandom really needed a vid showing what the women must deal with in Westeros and how they live with it and this vid has filled that void for me. Just watch it and leave her ALL the feedback because this vid deserves it alllll. Have I mentioned it's my FAVORITE? <3

Smells Like Westeros Spirit (Game of Thrones) by [personal profile] hollywoodgrrl:
I LOVE THIS VID SO MUCH! There are so many great parallels within the houses and and the bridge is so epically gorgeous I can't even. She took one of my favorite songs and made it fit incredibly well with such great motion and structure. And the ending shots are OMG PERFECT!

Retrograde (Beasts of the Southern Wild) by [profile] sockkpuppett:
I saw this vid both before I saw the movie and after I saw this movie and both times it blew me away and made me cry. It's so beautifully constructed and the song choice fit the source incredibly well especially the gorgeous use of setting.

Sleeping Ute (Life of Pi) by [personal profile] absolutedestiny:
This vid completely broke me in all the best ways. SO PRETTY it hurts and there is a TIGER which is my favorite part. The end is structured so beautifully and just hits it out of the park.

The Evil Queen (Ms. Mills If You're Nasty) (Once Upon a Time) by [profile] foomatic:
This was my favorite non Game of Thrones Club Vivid vid and captured all my Regina is the sexiest HBIC EVER!!1! feels. I loved the use of the Evil Queen and the Regina/Emma footage that really brought across the dominatrix!Regina theme. I had SO much fun dancing to this at CVV!

Age Like Wine (Multi) by [personal profile] absolutedestiny:
So much nostalgia!! This vid covers so much of my vidding life and has a lot of personal meaning to me. It says so much about dealing with change and continuing our creative outlets even as we get older. Vidding fandom vid FTW!

The Polka Slayer (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) by [personal profile] bradcpu and [personal profile] milly:
Buffy!! This was the perfect encapsulation of the show with so much love and hilarity at every new song inside a great polka medley. There are so many callbacks to vids and fandom and it makes me miss this show so much.

Mineshaft (Game of Thrones) by [personal profile] milly:
I was SO happy to see a Ros vid, a character that does not get treated well by canon and I loved how this vid did a great job to show her story while showing her connections to other characters. The lyrical matches are just so awesome, I definitely need to watch this vid more to pick up on everything!

Our House (Little Miss Sunshine) by [personal profile] mresundance:
This movie is my favorite and this vid captured so well the family aspect that I love about it. The build of it is absolutely fantastic and I have so many emotions at it that the vid taps into beautifully.

Ghosts That We Knew (Merlin) by [personal profile] trelkez:
I thought all my Merlin feels were gone but this vid brought them all back and more! So beautifully made, I love the structure of it and the beautiful use of flashbacks and facial expressions.

Scream (Doctor Who) by [personal profile] kass and [personal profile] laurashapiro:
I thought this was a fun Doctor Who vid when I watched it at Club Vivid but upon closer watch, it's an awesome look at how creepy the Doctor can be. It's hard for me to enjoy 11 era vids but I really loved this vid and it does a fantastic job of getting it's message across.

Devil Wouldn't Recognize You (Elementary) by [personal profile] obsessive24:
This vid may actually get me to watch some more Elementary which is quite a feat. Super beautiful editing that just moves and I'm completely intrigued by the plot. The effects work is freaking gorgeous and completely fits with the song.

Too Late Baby (Once Upon a Time) by [profile] braver_creature:
Rumple feels! This is an awesome character study of Rumpelstiltskin and all the messed up things he's done even as he (sometimes) tries to be a better person and reconnect with people he loves. The bridge is particularly amazing, I love how it moves and sounds like the music, super cool.

There are so many other great vids and I highly recommend checking out this list of all the vidshows and links to the vids to see if there are any vids you might want to check out.

So Festivids was awesome! SO many amazing vids (174!) and so many different fandoms and lots of great vid chat nights. I made Let It Be (Mad Men, Don/Peggy) and In the Sun (Huge, Becca) way too close to the deadline but they somehow made it in. Next time I have swore to myself I will get them down early as it'll make the process go SO much better. But I vidded two things I've really wanted to vid and I'm happy with both of them so I'm happy. Now onto the recs of my favorite vids for this year's Festivids. There are a LOT of great vids made so these are just my favorites that I connected with the most.

First, I received My Life Would Suck Without You a wonderful Modern Family, Cam/Mitchell vid that I ADORE to pieces. It shows all the ways that they're the cutest couple ever and how they love each other and CASABLANCA. I love it so much!

Serpent Charmer - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford: This was the perfect recruiter vid and completely convinces me of the beauty of the movie and the super slashiness of the relationship.
TV taught me how to feel - Community: Abed! Abed is my favorite thing about Community and this vid captures so much of what I love about him. The song is PERFECT for him and one of my favorite sings and the title really just says it all.
Float On - Finding Nemo This is the perfect Dory vid, full of fun, a great cover and continued joy throughout.
Tadzio, Tadzio - The History Boys: This vid made me finally watch The History Boys which has been on my list for a long time and THANK GOD I did because it was awesome and much gayer than I thought. This vid combines almost all of my favorite parts of it with lots of Dakin/Irwin goodness along with Posner being his wonderful self. I could watch this over and over to get a dose of all the good stuff I loved about the movie.
Friends - How I Met Your Mother: This is like the perfect friendship, OT5 vid that is just so funny and dead on with the representation of the gang. And the lyrics are perfect!
They Want More: Dinosaurs! So much dinosaur love in this and the lyrics could not work more perfectly.
End of the World - Life After People: The end of the world was never more awesome! This is just fun and fast and so very, very cool. No need to know the fandom, just watch!
Samsa Morning - Lost in Austen: This vid has the most PERFECT song choice ever. The end is so freaking true. Freaking Darcy, man. Even if you've never seen this mini-series before, especially if you're a Pride and Prejudice lover, WATCH THIS.
The Rules of Parenting - Modern Family: This is a hilarious vid full of everything I love about the show! So much joy and cuteness and filled with hilarious quotes that work perfectly in the vid. Makes me laugh so much (just like the show)!
Skinny Genes - Rizzoli and Isles: This vid is like the epitome of shippiness and cuteness. PERFECT song choice, great matching of music and visuals and lots and lots of femslash. I definitely am convinced to try out the show!
Dance in the Dark - Lady GaGa RPF: Lady GaGa, nuff said right? This is a great exploration of her and all her music videos and I'm never one to resist her magic.
Jaded - Velvet Goldmine: This vid is SO amazing with a perfect song choice that says so much about the movie and the main characters in it. Definitely a vid I'll be rewatching a lot.
What About Love: This vid is just SO PRETTY that it cannot be expressed in words. Rob Lowe is at his prettiest here and this is one of the slashiest things I have ever seen in my life. It's got a great story to it and lots of hockey if you're into that and it's just epically over the top goodness. MUST see this movie.

Lots of good TV this week! First there was the Superbowl (let's not talk about that, too depressing) and GLEE which is finally back. I thought the episode wasn't epic enough (or had enough great music) for a post-Superbowl episode but I enjoyed it and as usual Darren Criss was amaaaazing doing his thing. Then there was ANOTHER Glee on Tuesday (I like this every other day Glee schedule SO MUCH) which I loved SO MUCH. All I gotta say is MARRY ME BLAINE...so in love with him. He takes dreaminess to a whole nother level. And courage :) So inspiring. And Puck and Mike brought the hotness too, just guhhhh. And the end was PERFECT with the love and romance and KURT and all of them being there. Oh, Kurt <3 (Also am I the only one suddenly shipping Sam and Santana now? SO MANY PAIRINGS)

Then Modern Family was funny and awesome! Cam/Mitchell could not get any cuter. However, The Office decided it would get amazing all of a sudden. Wow. I had heard this episode was like a S2 episode and man, did it deliver. It made me laugh so much and then sucker punched me when I least expected it and made me cry. It was just really well written and had that wonderful family vibe that I love about it. Parks & Recreation has been good too although mostly I'm madly in love with Chris. He's just this bright ray of sunshine and I'm SO IN LOVE with him. Rob Lowe just excels with bringing the innocence. I'm also loving Shameless which is just so funny and awesome. What I love about it is among so many shows about rich, privileged people is this show about a family just trying to pay the bills and buy food and going through any means to do it. It's fun and I love everyone especially Ian who is the cutest ever. Basically, I'm behind on my TV watching goals right now (no time) but of the stuff I am watching, it's great so at least there's that.

Spoilers for American Idol Finale )

In other news, last final is tomorrow. A bit worried because my motivation has dropped down to almost zero. Thankfully it shouldn't be too hard but I do really want an A in this class. Finished my two hardest finals on Monday and think I did well enough for at least a B on both of them so I'm okay. In better college news, I'm changing my major. I was frustrated because my major wasn't artistically creative enough and none of the other majors fit me so I decided to create my own major. Going to do a Web Design major combining art and computer science so I'm really excited about it. Going back to NY on Saturday night, I think I'll be okay for the summer. If anyone in the LA area wants to meet up Friday evening/night, let me know. In other good news, I do these economic experiments for money and I won 100 dollars last week! It was amazing, I had 20 chances to pick a number from 1-100 and if the random computer picks the number, then I win and I picked 43 and did! Sooo nice.

GLEE!! It certainly made me gleeful. I will give Fox mad props for airing Glee after American Idol where it fits in perfectly. Spoilers under the cut )

In short, I am completely in love with it and I have a new show, yay! I am so sad I missed the preview in Santa Monica with the cast but sadly SoCal public transportation SUCKS. Ah well, I'm sure it'll be at Paley next year. This helps the lonely sad hole that Pushing Daisies left in my heart. Yes, I finally watched the final episode and it reminded me why I love the show so much. I may have teared up at the end. Damn you, ABC. And speaking of, I tried Cupid but sadly the female lead was horrible. So NOT my Claire Allen. The Trevor guy was good but the difference between Jeremy Piven and him was striking since Piven is so amazing. Poor, poor show.

I had one of those rare vid match making sessions the other day as I was able to pair a vid idea I want to do with a song that I thought would be great to vid to. And it TOTALLY works. I'm so excited that I went and vidded the ending since it works so well. Here's two House vid recs: I Just Want You by [profile] inkytips is a super cute House/Wilson vid that pretty much sums up exactly what I believe about their relationship. It uses some of the wonderful S5 clips with a nostalgic look back at past seasons. I like the pacing on it too. I also like Meds by [profile] scully1121, a great more character focused House vid (although a bit too much House/Cuddy for me personally but that's just me) about obviously, House and vicodin. I love the jump cut editing and use of imagery. HUGE spoilers for the S5 finale so don't watch if you plan to.

I have two Dreamwidth invites if anyone needs one. Leave me a comment and I'll invite you :) And a pretty, Brian/Justin kiss picture before I go. Keep it gay everyone, keep it gay.
