Happy 2009!

Happy New Year everyone! Kinda late, yes but I hope the first month of everyone's year is going well. Just a reminder that January 15th is More Joy Day basically where you spread some joy around by doing something nice anyway you can. For example, while getting drinks for New Years, I forgot my money and some kind stranger paid it for me. I was really touched and it brightened my night not to mention sticking with me even now. People can just be so wonderful. So now it's time to spread it through fandom!

It's Vividcon season YAY! Go here for details but the most important is that registration is at midnight Eastern US time, between Saturday February 28 and Sunday March 1. There's a poll there too to vote for the date. I so cannot wait.

I have a new show! I am massively in love with Beautiful People, a UK show about the life of Simon Doonan (Barneys Creative Director) who I fell for when watching Top Design. It's hilarious, full of joy and fashion and musical theatre and family love and craziness. I just adore it to death. And the older Simon is SO hot and has he and his boyfriend (in the prologue/epilogues) are so cute. Simon and Kylie are my absolute favorites, their friendship is so wonderful. Only six episodes but I savored every episode and love it completely. Definitely worth a try!

Speaking of British TV- Re: Doctor Who Casting Spoilers

Matt Smith, WTH? Ugh that's so disappointing. I was really hoping for a change from white guys whether a black man or a woman. Especially with Obama and everything. Blahhhh. I'm sure he'll be alright but it's just so lame and accepted and boring. And if there's a young in love companion I'll go throw up and consider not watching the show. But then there's the vids and guest stars (ie Jack) and constant OMG that episode was amazing even though with Stephen Moffat I'll probably be less than impressed. Also, on a shallow note, he looks kind of weird and not my type in the promo pics (although cute in a Matt Saracen way with short hair) I'm just not looking forward to the next doctor at all so this doesn't help.

Was completely bored by the special, didn't even know it David Morissey. I had just hoped there'd be another Timelord not some fake I could care less about. The only good thing was the end comment about all the people he missed or something, poor Ten and Donna reference! None of the specials have ever worked for me though so I'm not surprised. I just reeeeally want to see the Master again.

Yay Philly winning! What an awesome football game. I always stood by my Donovan and I just *knew* they'd win this game. Love the Giants but they had their glory last year and now I just reeally want the Eagles to win the Superbowl, let alone be in it.

Does anyone know if the BSG webepisodes are worth watching? I haven't seen them yet and usually them up but I do want to know more about what happened in the finale last year so anything about that?

[livejournal.com profile] deathisyourart writes about Beecher/Kellar here and talks about some of the reasons why I love them SO MUCH OMG. B/K is one of those couples that never leave you and just rest in your soul until you think about them and spontaneously burst into love for them.

[livejournal.com profile] clayangel did this AMAZING comic of the story of how Ryan and Colin met here. As someone who loves fic but loves a visual even more, this is everything I've always wanted to see and makes me SO HAPPY and it's just utterly adorable and romantic. God, they are so meant to be *sighs happily* Everyone should check it out!

It makes going through my iTunes library and rating everything SO worth it when I can listen to my four star playlist and love everything in it. Mmmm music. I will say my biggest disappointment so far has been Kanye West's new album. I only liked one or two of the songs and I feel like he took all the *soul* out of the songs that I loved on his previous albums. I mean, nothing ever compared to The College Dropout which is still on my top five album list but there was always a few songs I LOVED and most songs I enjoyed. I was giving songs ones and twos! I almost never do that so it was sad. Couldn't get into Fleet Foxes either and I don't get why they're so loved but I care much more about my favorite rather than the best in music so I don't mind. I am however loving Bitter:Sweet's The Mating Game, Artic Monkey's Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, Amanda Jenssen's Killing My Darlings, Aimee Mann's Lost in Space, Flobot's Fight With Tools, The Kill's Midnight Boom, Matt Pond PA's Several Arrows Later and Last Light, OK Go's self-titled and Oh No and Spoon's Kill The Moonlight.

If Youtube takes down your youtube vids: Fight it!. Check the comments for more. Also, how to beat the audio finding system here.

TV's back! I loved the new Brothers & Sisters (x2), Gossip Girl, Scrubs, Ugly Betty (the best imo, loved it soo much) and Greys. Also caught up on SGA and saw the finale which was alright but the best part was that it and Vegas convinced me to read some John/Rodney fic and it was gooood. My favorite was A Place On The Corner which is the cutest thing ever and is just my Rodney perfectly and why I love him. I laughed so many times and it's all just a perfect love story. I still can't believe it's over...thank god for fandom.

Beautiful People!! That show needs way more love! It has practically NO fandom. Which is a shame, because it's brilliant! I lovelovelove Simon so much and OMG his father! His father is my favorite character out of everybody, I would have killed for a father like that in my own life! <3
I was a teeny, tiny bit dissapointed about the fact that in the end adult!Kylie was just an older version of kid!Kylie. I would have really, really liked for Kylie to have a more surprising and fun development. Maybe be all serious and in a business suit or something. Like this it was just so... expected.
That doesn't take away from the absolute brilliance of that show, though! Adult!Simon is Samuel Barnett from The History Boys, which is one of my favorite movies EVER and he is so adorabe both in HB and in Beautiful People. He is made of win, essentially. As is the whole show. The cast is great, the characters are great... and what I possibly love most about it is that it's set, time-wise, during my youth! 90s flashbacks! That is so awesome and SO rare in a modern tv show. So, yeah, the show is love. Very, very, very much love ♥

As for the new Doctor, I actually like him. I was all "ok. never heard of him before" when I first heard it was him, but in the meantime I have watched a couple of episodes of a mini-series he was in, called Party Animals, and he is BRILLIANT in that! He can really, really act! He has charisma and a certain charme and I personally can absolutely not wait to see what he does with the Doctor. Plus, Moffat is in charge now, and considering he's written all of the best New Who episodes, I have absolutely no fears. The new era is gonna be great, I'm majorly optimistic. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I can't help it :p

OMG I LOVE IT SOOOOO MUCH!! That's so sad about the fandom :( I expected as much though. It really is brilliant. I loved his father too! He's such a cool guy. I was so surprised when he didn't want to make Simon butch or anything, I wish all fathers were like that. Too boring for me though but I adore Simon and Kylie to pieces, I have a hard time choosing favorites between them. I didn't mind adult Kylie, for one, I was so happy to see him and two, I'm glad his fabulousity wasn't suppressed by business. In the end, you can't help being who you are. I just love everyone. And so true about the flashbacks! I can relate so much to loving the Spice Girls and a bunch of other things. My two favorite things were the musical medley in the second episode and the soccer choreography which was bloody brilliant. And when the bully gave him his Posh! Awwww that made me cry, punch or note. Um yeah, kind of in love with the show right now, glad you watch it and let me ramble at you :D

I'm sure I'll probably like him, it's just so boring that he's another young white guy again. It's just getting old and I was really hoping for something new. I'm glad he can act though. I hate all the Moffat episodes (The Empty Child or whatever was okay) so I'm not looking forward to him so that doesn't help. Now if John Simm could be in more episodes...THEN I'd be excited.

God, really? How can you hate Blink?? Or the Silence in the Library two-parter? The only Moffat episode I didn't care for was The Girl in the Fireplace (even though I do love me some Sophia Myles), but there is no way around the brilliance of The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances! The Moff introduced Jack, for God's sake! :D
Wow. That opinion is quiet the rarity in the Who fandom *lol* I mean, yay for individuality, but it sure seems strange^^ Don't get me wrong, RTD will always be my hero for all the work he put into DW and TW and after all he came up with the idea for QaF, for which I will forever ♥ himn. But if anyone can take over from him it's The Moff. I have no doubt that he'll be brilliant.
I like John Simm, but I'm not sure I'd want the Master back anytime soon. Give the new guy some space first *lol*

Aaaaaanyway.... :p

Glad we agree on Beautiful People, at least! Brilliant show! OMG the soccer dance was SO GREAT! That whole episode was probably my favorite.. I remember crying like a fucking baby over how Simon's father is so amazing and not judgmental and I sort of projected like mad and cried for my own apathetic and non-caring father and got waaaaay to emotionally involved in that episode :p But damn, it WAS a good one! All episodes were brilliant.
And yeah, maybe you're right about Kylie, but I really would have liked more of a surprise. Alternatively, a personality for the boyfriend would have been a nice change, too, since he had none xD What he did have was a baaaaaaaad American accent. But hey, I guess you can't have everything *lol*

God, I hope soooooooo much that there's gonna be a second season! The show also totally made me wanna read the book (I actually do love the real Simon Doonan something fierce, too) it's based on. I bet it's totally awesome.

Geez, that was me rambling again xD But it's a great topic, so there :p

Because they have no character love whatsoever. I'm all about the character love. Make me love the characters, find joy in them, laugh, cry, whatever, SOMETHING. I don't find them "scary" and ugh Blink was boring, I just wanted my Doctor and Martha. Everyone raves about how brilliant they are but I don't see anything that indicates that and if I'm too bored to care, who gives a crap? And I love Jack in every episode, no matter who writes him. I've met a few people who agree, [livejournal.com profile] butterfly for one and we disagree a lot about DW so it's kind of funny. I don't have a big attachment to DW, with all the change, it's hard plus I don't usually like episodic shows (serial shows-like Heroes when done well are my thing), so I don't mind much, I just hope I can find a little enjoyment in the show. But if not, oh well, I have many others, it's just sad when I disagree with the rest of fandom.

Yes I definitely agree there, I wasn't expecting it to be so smart! True about the personality for the boyfriend, I definitely wish the present time characters would get more personality/screentime. And he's American? Ha I couldn't even tell. I hope there's a second season too! I can't even imagine that being all there is. I want to see him grow up! Although you never know with UK shows. I want to read the book as well, I instantly fell for Simon on Top Design so I'm not surprised I love this. It IS great! I need an icon.

B/K is one of those couples that never leave you and just rest in your soul until you think about them and spontaneously burst into love for them.

SO TRUE! I did the whole spontaneous love bursty thing earlier tonight and freaked out my cat.

Hee, I know the feeling! I need to get the episodes again so I can watch whenever I need a fix.

HAPPY 2009 to you! Hope it's full on everything you're so passionate about (too long to list) and the best of health as well. *hugs*

Beecher/Keller is simply incredible, isn't it? As much as I love the pairing, I can't write it, unfortunately. I can still read and enjoy it though. ;D

I've yet to have a look at the comic Clay made. Haven't been online much recently. I will definitely check it out.

Thanks :) I hope so as well.

They are! I am glad there's a decent amount of fic out there.

OMG you must! It's the best for any Ryan/Colin shipper *is in love*

Also, thank you so much for the card you sent me and the picture! It's much appreciated :D
