State of Me (ie Tired) |
[Oct. 22nd, 2007|11:51 pm] |
So I am insanely tired and just slept for 7ish hours. It's been kind of crazy keeping up with my Flist as I went to have a fun weekend in New Jersey to see blackstray (and celebrate her birthday!), indybaggins, clayangel, asuka14 and meet other people (and a dog). I already miss swinging with them. It was great and I had a really good time. Except for the bus trip from NYC where the bus was full so I had to wait from 1:15 am til 7:30 to go home. It sucked. Except for the fact that I'm now up to episode 406 of The Wire and I am glad to report that it really is the BEST SHOW EVER. The Office is still my favorite but this show destroys me with how good it is. The educational stuff is just so real especially to me. Man, I've so been there but that's a post for another day.
I have a huge backlog of post to really go through even though I've read most everything on my Flist. Still have SPN, FNL, Dexter, Heroes, HIMYM and Chuck to go through. But The Office made me insanely happy and I am still hopelessly in love with it. I can't wait for The Office convention next weekend! It'll be nice to be with people that love the show as much as me. Plus I reeeeally want to meet Mindy and Paul and thank them for some of my favorite episodes/moments. Cause they rock.
Also someone stole my video iPod :( :( People can really suck sometimes. So I bought an iPod touch which is the BEST thing ever. It's so shiny and pretty and I am enjoying watching my videos on it. Another Sunday never gets old. Plus there is WiFi access! Although not enough free wifi around.
I am kind of overwhelmed with all the stuff I have to do including a long day at work tomorrow. I need a week off or something to just sleep, watch tv, catch up fully on my Flist and vid. I also can't wait to go to California, fires and all.
Oh and Dumbledore is gay! I am so happy about that. He became my favorite character after book 7 as I just needed some good background on him and I was shipping Dumbledore/Grindelwald as soon as I finished reading so it's good to see my wishes were validated. I mean, it sucks that he's dead and I wish there were more gay characters in the book and actually proved canon in the books but it's better than nothing and he is a hugely influential character so I'm okay with it. I'm just so glad JK Rowling said something and that it was actually intended throughout the books. It just proves that slashers aren't always crazy to see slash because sometimes the authors feel they can't come out and say it. And I get it in Harry Potter it being so popular especially with children and the inevitable backlash to follow. But yay for Dumbledore being gay! |

Stockbridge/Boston and Harry Potter Book 6/7 |
[Jul. 17th, 2007|03:56 am] |
So I'm back from Stockbridge and Boston which was an amazing experience for the most part. Highlights include meeting Randy Harrison OMGYAY and seeing him twice perform stunningly in a play I love, meeting some awesome QaF fangirls, karaoke featuring singing, dancing, group songs and romantic QaF music, walking the Freedom Trail in Boston and watching QaF vids with fellow vidders. It was so much fun! Only bad was I had a bit of transportation trouble on the way home but thankfully I only made it home a few hours later than I expected. I will make a longer post about the trip tomorrow. For now I've read all my Flist and will try to catch up with commenting tomorrow.
I used the time traveling today to read the entire 6th Harry Potter book. I had forgotten a lot since I've only read it once when it first came out. Now I regret that since there's so little time left before the 7th and it's making me sad that this is it in terms of canon. I wish I had been a bit more involved in HP fandom, it is a once in a lifetime experience and it's now approaching the end of an era. Hary Potter was the first fandom I was ever in and where I read my first fanfic so this is big for me. I will say that it made me love Dumbledore all the more and his relationship with Harry. I am deathly afraid of spoilers for the 7th book as I'm definitely waiting until Friday night to read the book. But I cannot avoid my Flist or LJ so I beg everyone, I plead (yes, 6th book reference there) with you to not spoil me or anyone else in any way and always put spoilers for the book under a cut tag clearly stating it as book 7 spoilers. I trust my Flist so hopefully nothing bad will happen there. I am very, very sad that someone actually uploaded it. Is nothing sacred anymore?
To end on a better note, one of my favorite Dumbledore quotes: "Ah, music, a magic beyond all we do here." |

Dementors like in Harry Potter? |

So I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix yesterday. I had refreshed my movie knowledge by rewatching the 3rd and 4th movies the last two days. First I have to say I am a book purist. In my opinion, everything in the movie should match the books *exactly* no matter how long it takes. That's why I wish they made a Harry Potter TV show that did that as I'm sure it'd be successful with its guaranteed viewers. Plus it would be awesome for vidding. Anyways, I know it's unrealistic so I'm okay with things being left out of the book if it's not important and little scenes or character dialogue to explain things that were left out/slightly changed is okay. But I hate, HATE when they add scenes that don't do anything special the book doesn't do (so a book scene would have easily sufficed). Usually the dialogue is crap and/or doesn't match the characters and most importantly it takes away time from scenes that ARE important. Big changes to plot, character and making action scenes way too long are more things that get me riled up.
( Harrry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Movie Spoilers )
Now here's my top 10 list of Harry Potter characters: 1. Lupin - I love how inspiring a teacher he is, smart and understanding with his perfect diplomatic way of interacting with people. 2. Snape - I love how deliciously bad he can be but still be intelligent, his crappy past makes me love and forgive him all the more and I am incredibly intrigued by him and his motives. 3. Dumbledore - I love his wisdom, his belief in second changes and his delight in the fun, small things in life. 4. Hermione - It's hard for me not to love a perfectionist bookworm with a belief in equality and who tries to do the right thing. 5. Fred and George Weasley - I love how they make me laugh and provide humor into any situation. And they are awesome. 6. Arthur Weasley - I love his childlike wonder at all the Muggle creations as well as his protective side. 7. Mad Eye Moody - Fake or real, he's hilarious with his paranoia and great take downs of *evil* wizards. 8. Neville - I'm impressed with how much he's grown from lack of confidence to couragous in helping his friends and using his skills in Herbology. He reminds me of Pam in his growth. 9. Harry Potter - I truly admire Harry for trying so hard when he's had the worst of both worlds and taking the weight of the world onto his shoulders. 10. Oliver Wood - I adore his love of Quidditch at all costs. He's too funny.
Now to me it seems like everyone loves Sirius while I've never really understood why. The childhood idea of him at first seems cool but besides that I don't get it. So if you love Sirius, let me know why. I do like him and the same with Sirius/Remus but I've never understood why people go crazy over it. In terms of ships, I try to not get too attached to anything as Harry Potter is a smorgas board of amazing fic and other fannish stuff out there. The only thing that's definite it is I hate Harry/Hermione romantically (LOVE them platonically) but I'm pretty sure JK's not going there so I don't see it as much of a threat, just something that gets more fannish focus than I'd think. I actually kind of like Remus/Severus not just because they're my favorites but because I think it's interesting whether they could ever get past the bad of their pasts and find forgiveness in each other. Plus Lupin's the only one beside Dumbledore that could deal with Snape (heh). But hey, if you like Sirius/Remus, feel free to enlighten me on why you love the pairing so much as although I do like the deep friendship, I've never seen the romantic dynamic between them. But in Harry Potter fandom, anything goes :)
Oh and if you haven't seen wistful_fever's Harry Potter vid, The Boy Was a Puppet, go watch it! It's amazing with the effects, song choice and great clip choice showing Harry's struggles really well. It impresses me everytime I watch it. Oh, Harry. I'm always open to more HP vid recs as well. |

If luck weren't involved, I would always be winning. |
[Jul. 10th, 2007|07:47 pm] |
So I have both the worst luck in the world and the best luck. Mostly good though. Last Saturday I accidentally spilled lemoƱade on my laptop *cringe* I turned it off quickly and got most of it off but I was terrified I had broken my laptop completely. The fact that it cost a *lot* of money to buy and I don't have money to spare now was one of the bad parts not to mention my laptop is my most important possession with all the internet and vidding stuff I do. It's my baby, like Dean and his Impala. And the worst thing was I had just gotten back into vidding again and ripped all of my Office DVDs in preparation of the four vid projects I have for the show (1 ensemble, 1 Michael/Jan, 1 Michael and 1 Jim/Pam, Pam centric). So yeah, I had a mini freakout/cry but I let it sit for the night and today was able to take it to a computer place. There I get the best news in the world: my laptop still works!!! :D I had to clean it but most of it got on the DVD drive which with some cleaning is now fine. So I got lucky as the computer guy said, it had only happened to one other person. He even helped me more because my laptop is a *special* Asus laptop *adores* Thankfully I still have my external hard drives with backups with most of my stuff (although not the music and some vids) but it could have been a distaster without it. Let this be a lesson to everyone to ALWAYS back up your laptop/computer and never put any kind of drink near it.
So I have my internet back as I was only able to get on intermittently and at times barely at all due to my stupid, selfish, jerk brother (have I mentioned he's the only one in the world who I truly hate?) not letting me on the family computer. I will try to comment on some of the things I missed since I'm back now :) I used the time away to catch up on rereading the Harry Potter books and I have now finished the first five in time for the fifth movie which I'm seeing tomorrow afternoon :) I had forgotten how much I loved them for the characters, plots, platonic relationships and world building not to mention all the emotion inspired by them. SO GOOD. I am starting to get back into Potter mania just in time even though the fandom still is too big and scary for me to venture much inside. I will write up some of my thoughts on the books once I finish the sixth one.
Another thing I am deeply in love with at the moment are VIDS. Thank god my iPod still worked so I could watch them but I hated being away from some of the great vidding related posts I saw. I can't believe Vividcon is here in one month OMG! Vividcon is one of the best experiences I have ever lived through and I am psyched to go again and enjoy it once more. It's going to be fun hanging out with vid lovers and vidders and watching vids and talking about them and just GUH it sounds like heaven already. I really am truly grateful to have vidding, I need that creative outlet and making vids gives me more reason to feel excited about life and what I can do with it. And of course, watching everyone's vids and reading about them makes me incredibly happy. Yay vid fandom!
I have also been getting my parents to finally watch The Office! It's hard with S1 but I've been able to get them to keep watching so all is good. And it's good to see S1 again and get more familiar with it. The funny parts are more spaced apart but there are some moments that had me LMAO that are made more funny by knowing the characters so I still enjoyed them. I do love how they capture the characters so well but I'm glad they took away some of the distance towards Michael they had in S1 and gave him more plots in S2/S3 to make him more lovable. My favorite episode is still Basketball as it makes me laugh the most and the plot moves along well with all the characters involved but I always enjoy Healthcare and The Alliance with their great Dwight/Jim/Pam plots. After The Job, I love Dwight and Pam even more so if anyone has any fic recs with them (platonic but I'm okay with anything more), I'd love to read them.
Also, I'm seeing Randy Harrison and other QAF friends in Stockbridge/Boston in 3 days! I can't wait. Things are definitely starting to look up for me :)
ETA: Could Gilmore Girls could have ended more perfectly? I think not. It ended *exactly* the way I wanted it to *happy sigh* |

Connection |
[Jun. 20th, 2004|10:44 pm] |
It's funny how sometimes, unexpectedly, life provides exactly what I need.
*Spoiler warning for all movies included in this*
Today was kind of a blah day for me. So I decided to watch some movies. First there was Remember the Titans. I loove that movie. There are just so many awesome characters first of all (one of my main criteria). Then I love the overcoming prejudice theme, the struggle for equality always hooks me. Not to mention I gotta love the sports drama. But definitely I loved the relationships between the characters and how they changed. And the slash was great hehe...Next I saw Gladiator. First I must state how much I love the Hans Zimmer's music. Soo freaking good. Mostly in this movie I really liked Maximus and his journey. And wow the tigers were soo beautiful *sigh*
The surprise was me watching Patch Adams, which i didn't have on tape. I only really watched it because on Television Without Pity they always call Dr. Abbott from Everwood, Patch and I wanted to know what this movie had to do with it. Now I'm so glad I did. I loved the beginning with him in the psychiatriac ward. The squirrel part was just hilarious. Robin Williams is a great actor and I really liked his character, seemed a bit NFish, even 9w1ish to me but not totally clear on that. Anyway, my favorite parts were the ones where he established such wonderful connections with patients. I loved the hospital scene with the children and how he brightened so many peoples lives was great. What really touched me was how he really cared about people even right upon meeting them and took the time to do something special. Plus I love (and admire) his unselfconciousness. I'm not even going to try to count the number of times I cried in this movie but that just shows how much it affected me. It was definitely exactly what the doctor ordered for me :)
Tomorrow: Harry Potter! Woohoo! |
