Festivids and TV, my favorites.

So Festivids was awesome! SO many amazing vids (174!) and so many different fandoms and lots of great vid chat nights. I made Let It Be (Mad Men, Don/Peggy) and In the Sun (Huge, Becca) way too close to the deadline but they somehow made it in. Next time I have swore to myself I will get them down early as it'll make the process go SO much better. But I vidded two things I've really wanted to vid and I'm happy with both of them so I'm happy. Now onto the recs of my favorite vids for this year's Festivids. There are a LOT of great vids made so these are just my favorites that I connected with the most.

First, I received My Life Would Suck Without You a wonderful Modern Family, Cam/Mitchell vid that I ADORE to pieces. It shows all the ways that they're the cutest couple ever and how they love each other and CASABLANCA. I love it so much!

Serpent Charmer - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford: This was the perfect recruiter vid and completely convinces me of the beauty of the movie and the super slashiness of the relationship.
TV taught me how to feel - Community: Abed! Abed is my favorite thing about Community and this vid captures so much of what I love about him. The song is PERFECT for him and one of my favorite sings and the title really just says it all.
Float On - Finding Nemo This is the perfect Dory vid, full of fun, a great cover and continued joy throughout.
Tadzio, Tadzio - The History Boys: This vid made me finally watch The History Boys which has been on my list for a long time and THANK GOD I did because it was awesome and much gayer than I thought. This vid combines almost all of my favorite parts of it with lots of Dakin/Irwin goodness along with Posner being his wonderful self. I could watch this over and over to get a dose of all the good stuff I loved about the movie.
Friends - How I Met Your Mother: This is like the perfect friendship, OT5 vid that is just so funny and dead on with the representation of the gang. And the lyrics are perfect!
They Want More: Dinosaurs! So much dinosaur love in this and the lyrics could not work more perfectly.
End of the World - Life After People: The end of the world was never more awesome! This is just fun and fast and so very, very cool. No need to know the fandom, just watch!
Samsa Morning - Lost in Austen: This vid has the most PERFECT song choice ever. The end is so freaking true. Freaking Darcy, man. Even if you've never seen this mini-series before, especially if you're a Pride and Prejudice lover, WATCH THIS.
The Rules of Parenting - Modern Family: This is a hilarious vid full of everything I love about the show! So much joy and cuteness and filled with hilarious quotes that work perfectly in the vid. Makes me laugh so much (just like the show)!
Skinny Genes - Rizzoli and Isles: This vid is like the epitome of shippiness and cuteness. PERFECT song choice, great matching of music and visuals and lots and lots of femslash. I definitely am convinced to try out the show!
Dance in the Dark - Lady GaGa RPF: Lady GaGa, nuff said right? This is a great exploration of her and all her music videos and I'm never one to resist her magic.
Jaded - Velvet Goldmine: This vid is SO amazing with a perfect song choice that says so much about the movie and the main characters in it. Definitely a vid I'll be rewatching a lot.
What About Love: This vid is just SO PRETTY that it cannot be expressed in words. Rob Lowe is at his prettiest here and this is one of the slashiest things I have ever seen in my life. It's got a great story to it and lots of hockey if you're into that and it's just epically over the top goodness. MUST see this movie.

Lots of good TV this week! First there was the Superbowl (let's not talk about that, too depressing) and GLEE which is finally back. I thought the episode wasn't epic enough (or had enough great music) for a post-Superbowl episode but I enjoyed it and as usual Darren Criss was amaaaazing doing his thing. Then there was ANOTHER Glee on Tuesday (I like this every other day Glee schedule SO MUCH) which I loved SO MUCH. All I gotta say is MARRY ME BLAINE...so in love with him. He takes dreaminess to a whole nother level. And courage :) So inspiring. And Puck and Mike brought the hotness too, just guhhhh. And the end was PERFECT with the love and romance and KURT and all of them being there. Oh, Kurt <3 (Also am I the only one suddenly shipping Sam and Santana now? SO MANY PAIRINGS)

Then Modern Family was funny and awesome! Cam/Mitchell could not get any cuter. However, The Office decided it would get amazing all of a sudden. Wow. I had heard this episode was like a S2 episode and man, did it deliver. It made me laugh so much and then sucker punched me when I least expected it and made me cry. It was just really well written and had that wonderful family vibe that I love about it. Parks & Recreation has been good too although mostly I'm madly in love with Chris. He's just this bright ray of sunshine and I'm SO IN LOVE with him. Rob Lowe just excels with bringing the innocence. I'm also loving Shameless which is just so funny and awesome. What I love about it is among so many shows about rich, privileged people is this show about a family just trying to pay the bills and buy food and going through any means to do it. It's fun and I love everyone especially Ian who is the cutest ever. Basically, I'm behind on my TV watching goals right now (no time) but of the stuff I am watching, it's great so at least there's that.

Let's Hear It For LA!

I'm in LA! My trip was uneventful thankfully and I made it here on time and in a good mood. Already I've had free champagne and cake and went on a little happy run to let out my (slightly drunk) happy emotions. I can't believe I made it and now that I'm here, all the nervousness I was feeling has disappeared and I'm just deliriously happy. I'm going to be using that word a lot because I am in a great, fulfilled and content kind of way. I have a whole plan of what I want to do here and I'm determined to get it. My ultimate goal is to have my own little apartment downtown but we will see how things go moneywise before I get there. It's just good to break free from the chains of cold, boring town with parents I'm sick of and no roots to speak of. I can't wait to meet people here, make friends, see some old ones and create the life of my dreams. Here's the song I've been playing to describe how I feel:

In LA
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothin' you can't do
Now you're in LA
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Let's hear it for LA, LA, LA

Yes I will service that song for my own city. Also last night was great TV night with my comedies coming back!

Spoilers for The Big Bang Theory )

Loved The Office for the first time in awhile. It was actually funny! And it wasn't even written by one of the original writers! Loved that it had heart as well. Thought 30 Rock was less funny but I still love Liz Lemon and it did have some laughs so it was alright. I miss Parks and Recreation, tried Community again but I still can't get myself to care enough about the characters and there aren't enough laughs for me. Also tried Shit My Dad Says which was unfunny as I heard it would be. Oh well. Also loved Modern Family on Wednesday although it wasn't quite as funny as I hoped, as always Cam/Mitchell were amazing and the cutest ever. I tried Running Wilde with low expectations as I have heard bad things but it was surprisingly good! The first half was bad and unfunny but all of a sudden the jokes started coming and they were funny and reminded me of Arrested Development. So definitely watching that one. Catching up on Cougar Town at the moment which has been unfunny but enjoyable and all of a sudden, it was funny! Much like How I Met Your Mother, it took til the 9th episode for me to really like it. Not super attached but I do need more funny shows. Still dying for Glee to come back, I have spoiled myself sooo much for the next episode (I am banned from spoilers after that one) but it's going to be SO good, dare I say it...legendary.

I managed to get my Festivids nominations in this morning thankfully. From what I remember I nominated The Wire, Treme, Little Miss Sunshine, Huge (2010), Nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, Be Good Johnny Weir, Project Runway, The Rachel Zoe Project, The Sopranos, Mad Men, Arrested Development, Damages, Beautiful People, Sex and the City (TV+Movie) and some other TV shows I'm forgetting. I'm so excited for it to begin! Hope we get a lot more vidders this year so there'll be more vids ;)

If anyone is in the LA area and wants to hang out, let me know!

Chi-town!

Trufax: after listening to Kanye West for five years, it took me until my roadtrip back to NY to realize that Chi-town = Chicago. Yeeeah. But that's where I'm going! Tonight I'm leaving to go to Chicago to see Johnny Weir skate to BAD ROMANCE! Gaaahh I'm so excited I can't even. Plus the seats are general admission so I'm going to get there super early tomorrow so I can get a front row seat and hopefully meet him eeee. I was dying for a chance to see him ice skate and thankfully the universe provided it to me. If anyone is in Chicago and wants to hang out anytime on Thursday or Friday, let me know asap (if you can spare a place to crash Thursday night that'd also be great, otherwise my cousin once removed lives there so I'll hang with her). I'm really looking forward to it! And of course Chi-town is where I'll be going this August when I go to Vividcon :)

I was unsure whether I'd be able to go up until this afternoon as I got a new job and of course the scheduling put me on both my cousin's wedding and this trip. But thankfully they're letting me miss Friday so I'm fine and can go. Had my first day today and it was alright, shouldn't be too hard. Working in the deli in the grocery store for now although hoping to switch to cashiering soon. Should definitely help with money. Last weekend I went to see my oldest cousin's wedding and that was a lot of fun. It was nice getting to talk with some family I haven't seen in awhile and meet my cousin's new baby who was cute (as can be for someone who thinks babies are ugly) as well as getting to enjoy the open bar and dance floor. They played two GaGa songs which made me happy so it was a blast for the most part.

In TV that I am watching, been catching up on In Treatment and Breaking Bad. In Treatment is rather addicting once you get into it. I love the therapy sessions throughout most of the episodes and how character/relationship based it is. Very cool. I tried it out earlier but the pilot kind of bored me. Rewatching that I find that the first patient is my least favorite and of course I despise her storyline which is the thing that bothers me most about the show. Lots of familiar guest stars, Melissa George from Alias, Blair Underwood and Dan from Sports Night. Working on S2 at the moment. Breaking Bad took me three episodes to get into but the fourth is AMAZING. Very Wire-esque and the show does beg comparison to that show although it isn't as good in comparison (what is?). I love the gradual character change and how very smart the show is not to mention my favorite character, Jesse. The domestic stuff generally bores me although the Hank stuff can be pretty funny. However I will warn that they try to buildup to a big S2 finale ending but the ending SUCKS. Don't go into it thinking it'll change the world, it's just the creator fucking with you. Was angry about it so haven't seen the first two S3 episodes but I will tonight probably. I recommend them both if you love high quality television.

Also watched the first two episodes each of United States of Tara and Nurse Jackie and loved them both. United States of Tara got more gay which made me super super happy and I am interested to see where the storylines are going. I enjoy Nurse Jackie more because I love more of the characters. Zoe is my favorite (even though she's not my usual type) because her cuteness and funniness knows no bounds but I am still loving Jackie, Dr. O'Hara, Thor and the sadly taken away, Mo-Mo (such a tragedy-there are no words for my anger). Always can't wait for more out of both shows and I definitely recommend them if you like great female characters.

I am DYING to see more Glee and the premiere of Treme (David Simon's new show) about New Orleans and music). Of course they come in the same three day period, Treme on April 11 and Glee on April 13. A great article on Treme is here that makes it sound like the show will be a combination of The Wire (beaten down city backdrop + amazing realistic storytelling) and Glee (celebration of music + more individualism as well as coming together moments) which cannot make me any happier in what appeals to me. In sad news though, David Mills who writes for the show died today :( Really really sad because he wrote great episodes for The Wire and Homicide. I definitely can't wait for Glee to come back because I can really use the uplifting episodes it always brings.

Brief news on other TV and movies: Ugly Betty-OMG JUSTIN AND MARC!!! Um Justin's plotline makes me so squeeful and happy I can't even take it but god worst cliffhanger ever. American Idol-stopped watching, liked Toddrick and Andrew Garcia, hated Casey and Lee. Modern Family-SO IN LOVE. My favorite comedy at the moment, it's brilliant and everyone should watch it. The Office-loved the beginning of the last episode, Oscar = cutest EVER. Project Runway-I love Seth Aaron (I think he'll win), Mila, Jay and Anthony (he needs his own Bravo show). Can't wait to see the collections.

Oh and I got a new haircut. Never had it this short since I was like 8. It's weird but I mostly liked it besides the fact the hair dresser directly disobeyed my first instruction to keep it behind my eyes. It's fixed now though. Oh and I've been really into The West Wing these days. I feel like my love for that show cannot be contained in my body especially for my OT4. It never fails to make me laugh and believe in the world just a little bit more.

TV Christmas presents yay!

The Big Theory OMG!!! Just gave me everything I could want from it for Christmas <3

The Big Bang Theory 311 Spoilers )

I'm glad this show came into my heart as HIMYM and me are in a bit of a fight. I'm just pissed in how they ruined my ship in such a stupid, makes no sense kind of way. So I'm angry everytime I see Barney and Robin. It doesn't help that the show hasn't been that funny lately. The episode before tonight's did have a romantic moment at the end though.

Also LOVED the comedy block on Thursday. All amazing episodes particularly The Office (written by Mindy Kaling, of course!) and I did love the including of many religions/beliefs on Community (agnostic! athiest! yay :D). They have helped during finals time, which just please end now I am soooo sick of school. In good news though, my job is going very well! A big part of my job is designing websites and using Photoshop so it works for me.

I really, really love my Adam CD :) I will never not need more Adam pictures around my desk/bed. And I don't care what anyone says, I think he's very very pretty in the picture. Mmmm Adam.

YULEVID! And TV

So for the past few years I've been really jealous of everyone participating in Yuletide and so bummed out that I don't write and so can't taken part in it. And I've always thought there should be a vid challenge in a similar way. AND NOW THERE IS! [profile] yulevid is the new community that's the vid version of Yuletide where vidders can request and offer to vid rarely vidded fandoms. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS! I am definitely participating even if it kills me to complete a vid for it. The nice part is everyone will be required to request a movie so there is always a shorter source for someone to vid if they run out of time. The dates are a bit later than Yuletide this year since it's a late start. I encourage everyone to go check out the community which is brainstorming right now and the nomination period for fandoms will start out (probably) next week. And now I don't have to feel sad when I see Yuletide posts because I'm doing it too!

So now I can finally put up my possible nominations like all the writers, yay!

Arrested Development, Better Off Ted, Cupid (1998), Friday Night Lights, How I Met Your Mother, Latter Days, Little Miss Sunshine, Mad Men, Milk, Modern Family, Oz, Rent, Sex and the City, Shelter, Six Feet Under, Slings and Arrows, The Big Bang Theory, The Sopranos, The West Wing, The Wire, United States of Tara

Soooo many shows/movies I'd looove to see more vids to here. I so cannot wait!

Spoilers for The Office: Koi Pond )

Oh and my phone FINALLY has an Office ringtone! I've wanted my phone to have one and my past phones have never been able to. It makes me happy whenever I hear it :)

Spoilers for 30 Rock: Stone Mountain )

Enjoyed Parks and Recreation which hasn't been that funny for me sadly. But I loooove Leslie and now I adore her cute cop date so I'm sticking with it for now.

On another note, I am SO SO SO EXCITED for Adam's single tomorrow! "For Your Entertainment" is premiering on Ryan Seacrest's show tomorrow starting at 6:55 am PST so I'll have to wake up early for that. I've just been dyyyying to hear it and see how Adam manages to combine electro dance glam pop classic rock and whatever else he's throwing in there with his AMAZING voice of perfection. To finally hear an Adam Lambert song on the radio will be so crazy. After waiting all this time, with so much teasing, it's finally here! I can't even believe it.

And Tuesday I went to the This is It premiere in LA and saw him!! It was so amazing. I hung out behind the red carpet with [profile] dee919 and then all of a sudden I spotted Adam on the big screen and freaked out. They tried to keep us away from the front of the racks but I managed to capture some video footage of Adam doing interviews and at one point we (and some other Adam fans there) shouted at him and he turned and looked at us and ME! Holding my Details magazine hehe. He waved!! It was just so wonderful. Also he did a little dance at one point and was later bobbing his legs along with the music. Too cute! Oh and I saw Chris Colfer, Kurt from Glee too! He was walking towards the theatre and I stopped him and told him I loved him in Glee. The movie was about to start so I didn't ask for video or anything. And then later after the movie which just made me think of Adam getting thoughts on how epic his own tour is going to be, we went downstairs and a few minutes later, Adam was RIGHT NEXT TO US. [profile] dee919 tried to ask for a picture but he was in a rush to get to his car so he said he couldn't. Still we followed him out and it was so surreal to be two feet or so from ADAM FUCKING LAMBERT. I have my video footage up on Youtube here along with my footage from when I went to the Good Morning America concert to see Adam, Kris and David Cook.

Thankfully Kris Allen hasn't been nearly as closeted (ha) with his music and I'm loving the music on his CD! There's short snippets of all his songs which you can hear all together in an mp3 file here and I've had it on repeat a lot in the past couple days. So catchy! I love Written All Over My Face and Can't Stay Away (which he played in Florida, the whole songs are great) the most but the rest of the album sounds super tinhatty to me especially Bring It Back. I'm super excited about his album, it's going to be awesome. November is a very, very good month.

Original slash (remade) and Office love

So thanks to LJ, I was reminded of Star Trek midnight screenings (thank god for the time difference) and biked over to the theater to watch it. Had to see my Kirk/Spock and Zachary Quinto! I've seen a few episodes of the original series (plus vids) and looooove Spock so I was pretty easy going into it. Lost people aside, that is.

Star Trek 2009 movie spoilers )

Spoilers for The Office )

Oh and a HUGE congrats in order to Mindy Kaling who has a development deal for NBC!! I am so happy for her and excited to see another comedy from a woman writer about women (probably) from the writer of some of my favorite Office episodes (The Dundies, The Injury, Take Your Daughter to Work Day, Branch Wars, Golden Ticket and others). And when I met her she was really, really nice to me so I'll always be a big fan of hers.

San Diego and Florida

So I'm leaving this morning for Florida and I'm super excited. Just wanted to do a brief update. Went to San Diego for the last few days because I needed to get out of here for awhile and had a great time. I biked down the coast most of the way from Oceanside and the ocean was soooo pretty, best way to travel. The whole trip made me fall in love with California again and its beauty. I also saw most of the San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Seaworld so that was fun. Looking forward to spending time with [livejournal.com profile] deejay, [livejournal.com profile] clayangel, [livejournal.com profile] blackstray and [livejournal.com profile] indybaggins in Florida and checking out Disney World for the first time as well as Miami.

LOVED The Office this week, both episodes reminded me why I love this show. And loved Dollhouse again this week, 107 finally made me love the show and this week's episode got me to care about the characters and kept me intrigued with the plot so I'm happy. Parks and Recreation was alright, it got better towards the end so I'll see if the potential plays out better in future episodes. I just hope we get more heart and less of a S1 Office feel.

Let's hope the travel curse doesn't strike me again. I'll be checking my email and LJ as much as I can.

That's me in the icon right there. Moodwise that is.

Fangirl highs are the BEST. I am currently in one because of House spoilers for the next episode ). I have this vid idea that needs as many sparks as it can so this is wonderful. I am trying to contain myself but it's hard and this is after I ran around the block. Basically in my head it is a wonderful party of screams and squees and OMGs and super happiness. Ahhh this is why I ship my heart out.

In other fannish news, I have completely fallen for Andy/Oscar from The Office. And you know, I've been wanting a good slash ship on this show for awhile now and although I love Michael/Dwight and Jim/Dwight and Michael/Ryan and the general slashiness on the show, nothing really stood out to me. And I've always liked the Andy/Oscar stuff since Business Trip but it just took that hint of canonness in the episode before last week to make me full out shippiness. I'm surprised it took me so long as they have exactly the dynamic I love with the whole see through the hard exterior to the jelly inside as Andy says so perfectly. I'm such a sucker for that. But now I'm watching their scenes together and dying for more scenes together. I swear this is like right after I got into Michael/Jan and then had to wait a month before they had a scene together. It's SO frustrating for my shippy brain.

Some thoughts on Dollhouse: Not really spoilers but just in case )

College is going pretty well so far. Still trying to get a balanced schedule but I'm procrastinating somewhat less and reading more so that's good. I'm taking Computer Science 1, Visual Programming, Introduction to Financial Accounting and Primetime: The Game of Television. The last one, of course, is my favorite. It's like a TV industry RPG where there are producers who pitch shows to the networks who sell the shows to the networks and then everyone votes for what shows they watch. It's really fun! Unfortunately I'm stuck being a producer since there was some miscommunication in my network group and we didn't turn something in. It's hard for me as I don't gave a lot of workable TV show ideas (suggest some if you want!) but I'm working with my old group so that helps. I actually sold one of my ideas! It was all about using social media and stuff like that to stay in touch over long distances. Thank god for other teammates helping out with fleshing out plot and characters. The other classes are going well too, I like them all but there's not much to say about them. It's kind of lonely at times as it seems everyone else has a lot of friends and I'm just trying to meet people I have a connection with but I'm hoping I'll find a few as I get more involved with clubs and stuff. Although with my crappy luck, two clubs meet the same evening I have class for 4 hours. Arghhh.

I took the Census test because I really need a job and it pays double anything I've ever been paid. Plus it's proving hard to find a job on campus. And I reeeally want to go to Paley, hopefully to see Dr. Horrible and meet Nathan and if I get lucky, see the Battlestar event. Sadly the Pushing Daisies one is when I'll be off on Spring Break but I'm sure they'll show the episodes on the DVD or at another time at least. Can't wait for The Office tomorrow! And John Hamm on 30 Rock is soooo hot. I am all swoony throughout that show now.

I voted.

So today I voted in my first presidential election. It's such a milestone to finally be able to do that. The best part is I voted for Barack Obama, the (hopefully) first African American president of the United States who I support and believe in with all my heart, mind and soul. It was quick for me, took about five minutes long with no line but it was still glorious and monumental and just SO NICE. Just pulling those levers made me feel so proud and happy that I, we finally made it here and are making this happen. I got all emotional because this is actually amazingly finally happening. Wow. Just wow.

As I say, I don't vote because my vote matters but because it matters that I vote. It matters for Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Stanton and all the women who worked for the vote and all those who didn't have it. It matters for the African Americans who couldn't vote, for the young people who can't vote, for the people without property that once couldn't vote and for the people from other countries who this election effects but who can't vote. It matters for anyone who has ever been denied the right to vote. So no matter who you vote for, I urge everyone reading this to vote.

Tonight I'm working and thankfully missing the election night craziness (and not House) but hopefully by the time I get home, the election will be decided for Obama. And hopefully I'll have a much happier Flist tomorrow then I did four years ago. Can we call tomorrow More Joy Day if he wins? Cause it definitely will be.

So last Monday, [livejournal.com profile] lianri and me went on a small road trip to get to Chester, PA to see Barack Obama in a rally and although we braved snow and rain and long lines, it was all so worth it to see him. Basically the driving in snow storms, freezing in the relentless rain and waiting for 5 hours is forgotten in my mind when I remember his speech and being with a rallying group of Obama fans and just seeing him so close. We got there at 5 am or so when there was about twenty people ahead of us. The best part was playing an Office quote game I made up where one of us would say an Office quote and then the other would have to name the character who said it, who they said it to and the episode it was from. We both did quite well actually although I'm a bit rusty from my old knowledge. We didn't get any pictures besides us in line as they said we couldn't take any which we later found out was a lie. But we were only two rows from the front so it was okay in the end.

After waiting through other speeches, he finally came out and he looked just beautiful even in jeans and a jacket. It was so surreal to finally see him live, to hear him speak with his amazing voice and words and to be more inspired than I ever have by a politician speaking. He made me forget all about the cold and rain and *believe* in him and change and the possibility of a better future. It was exhilarating. I still can't believe it actually happened, it feels like a dream but it was worth all the money. Once he was done with the speech (it's online probably), he came around to shake people's hands. I was *inches*, centimeters away from shaking his hand but basically I came that far to touching him as someone else got the handshake. Ah well. After all that, nothing could take away my happiness. I was just jumping around in a happy high. After seeing snow for the first time I had been really depressed but he reminded me that I could overcome that just like this country can overcome all the horrible things we go through. YES WE CAN.

In other good news, I have my computer back! Fixed it on Saturday/Sunday and have most everything working well again. Now trying to catch up on TV and the like, so far Pushing Daisies, Heroes and Gossip Girl have been a lot of fun. Hard drive next week and then much vidding fun follows. And I'm happily aglow with all the great vids that have come out in the last few weeks not to mention I just finished Smallville S7 a few days ago so I finally saw a bunch of vids I haven't seen before for fears of spoilers. Gah vidders are so amazing.

Go vote!

I can drink!

It's my 21st birthday today so now I can legally drink and go into clubs and bars. Yay! The latter part is most important but it's the freedom thing that's good too. Thanks muchly to [livejournal.com profile] talitha78 and [livejournal.com profile] clayangel for the virtual presents, they make me very, very happy :D

So far it's been a great day. I led up into my birthday last night watching Failure to Communicate (Doris! total coincidence, next on the list) and Need to Know and then right at 12 am watched Synergy (It Had To Be You) (and then two more times) which made me drunk with House/Wilson love. Watched Once More With Feeling in the morning, had a scrumpious breakfast at iHoP and am about to be off to try to get my House/Wilson TV Guide for my birthday. And then I have a birthday party with friends and a dinner where I'll order my first drink. Can't wait! There should be plenty of Office watching, of course.

Been kind of crazy year with lots of transitions but hopefully I'll get my life going in the right direction and will be back in California next year. And there's been a lot of great memories too in the last year.

I find it funny that when I was born there was a financial crisis going on and now here we are today but oh well. In more important news though (at least to me), it's National Coming Out Day and in California, Proposition 8 is on the ballot trying to take away gay marriage. From [livejournal.com profile] melina123,

There are powerful interests pouring millions of dollars to support this proposition, and there are recent polls showing we're losing. So if you can, please give some money. The minimum credit card donation is $5. If you can give that, or $10 or $20, please, please do. Or sign up to phonebank. You don't have to live in California to help.

Seriously. If we lose, we're pretty much done with this issue in California for a very long time to come -- this is a constitutional amendment and it will be very, very hard to change if it's passed. If we fail at this in California, it will only be more difficult in other states.

Think of Kevin and Scotty! Or any GLBT or slash pairing you support or you know, your friends and the people who would have their rights taken away by this proposition. This is so important and the best birthday gift I could get is if people would help support them and this proposition would get defeated.

Sorry to be negative on my birthday but it had to be said. Now back to my party! \o/

(no subject)

On the Emmys: Yes, I'm watching. Yes, I still think they're total bullshit. Ignore The Wire on it's FINAL season? Stupid ignorant sluts. So, sure Mad Men will almost certainly win and it's an amazing show but it did not win FAIR. And it does not deserve to win over The Wire. So whathefuckever. I'm just watching to see all my favorite actors and writers and I'll probably be doing other stuff while it's on. It would be very, very nice if Steve would win but I won't be surprised to see him and The Office get robbed again.

On politics: Can someone PLEASE make the election be over? I thought the primaries were bad but this is worse. I hate McCain and Palin (oh god, the CRAZY) and all I want is Obama to win so I can have a little hope in this country and not want to kill myself watching Brothers and Sisters (TV: the only place I can't avoid politics) or actually getting a chance to watch The West Wing. I actually had to leave my History of Women class and plug my ears during half of it because they wouldn't shut up about politics. It fills me with so much rage that I've had to completely unplug from the election for my own sanity and peace of mind. I feel like this country is so going to hell no matter how much I want to believe that the future slowly gets better. The only thing helping me is remembering that no matter what happens, I'll still have the bastion of happiness of fandom not to mention TV, LA and most importantly, friends. This quote from QaF helps too: "So the "thumpa thumpa" continues. It always will. No matter what happens. No matter who's president. As our lady of Disco, the divine Miss Gloria Gaynor has always sung to us: We will survive."

Premiere week is upon us! Almost all my shows will be back during this week. I am still working on catching up on TV after marathoning Sex and the City but I am having a great time watching all the episodes I stored up. Also, found a new show! So this show called Lost in Austen looked fascinating so I gave it a try and loved it! Basically a girl who loves Jane Austen/Pride and Prejudice is transported to that world. Great concept and I adored the Pilot. The main character is very cute and I can't help but love a girl who escapes into books. She reminds me a lot of Gwyn physically but thankfully I like her lots better. Definitely recommend the show to everyone! I actually have never finished Pride and Prejudice, I've read 3/4ths of it twice (better than LotR, I've read the first few chapters like five times) so I'm hoping this will give me more motivation to finally get it finished. In my copious spare time, ha. I am so behind on everything.

On the school front, I like most of my classes so that's good. As expected my two Philosophy classes are my favorites. Sooo fascinating. Ancient Philosopy is incredibly interesting, I love thinking about all that kind of stuff and logic is just so useful and cool to understand. That one I can definitely see being useful with contructing arguments for vids and such. Also plus about my Ancient Philosophy class, the professor is REALLY hot. Like, Mohinder levels hot. Which is why I'm calling him Mohinder especially since the class is on Monday night and I have to speed home to have a chance at watching Heroes. So far they are going well but not too much work so far, thank god.

Loved House last week! I have more thoughts on it but for now, awwww House and Wilson. Make up and make out guys! This is my slogan for this season (really any season). And I even have a pretty House and Wilson kissing wallpaper that makes me happy everytime I look at it. Also, The Office premiering this Thursday! I'm so excited for my favoritest show to be back :D

TV, Gossip Girl, College and NYC

I'm so happy the fall TV season is finally starting! With the premiere of Gossip Girls and Prison Break yesterday, it's finally begun. I can hardly believe it's September already. I'm still working on catching up with Prison Break so Gossip Girl is my first show of the night. In an effort to not procrastinate and wait to write things until they're perfect thereby never getting to writing them at all, I'm going to try to start posting my first reactions to all the TV I'm watching with some shows getting longer thoughts later or at first. So to begin it, my fun, pretty, melodramatic soap opera is back:

Spoilers for Gossip Girls 201 )

At the moment I'm most excited for House because House/Wilson OMG. Sant Doris Egan proved once again why she is our saint with this AMAZING interview. Mild spoilers for the season but worth it for me. I seriously could not be more excited about this season. Everytime I think, how can it get any more slashier, more canon? And then it does! I mean, look: "I feel like House and Wilson, they deserve mythology. They're larger-than-life characters. YES YES YES. ILU Doris. And when I read that I was like, House and Wilson, they're the stuff of legends. And THEN I remember that Doris wrote two great episodes of Smallville, Hourglass and Hug and in the latter, that's what Lex says to Clark. Clearly, she's awesome. Spoilers for this season from the article )

Funny enough, I just got into Dark Angel and I'm loving it. It's so cool that Doris was a writer on it! The show is definitely appealing to me with kickass Max and the whole character backstory and the world and I LOVE the plotline. Lots of intrigue, great action and suspense. I wish we could get rid of the loser dude but I love her friends. Not into the Logan/Max thing which feels like they're shoving down our throats which I hate but as friends, they're nice and Logan is very hot. Can't wait til Alec shows up though. I'm only on 105 but I can't wait to watch as much as I can! Wish I had the time to marathon it completely. I love that feeling though between this and Slings and Arrows (SO MUCH LOVE), it reminds me why I love TV. But I will say between Dark Angel, the sickening events in Minnesota and a bad experience with a police officer (no ticket though thank god), I'm feeling very anti-police. Way too much power and it freaks me out. On the new TV front, I'm starting to watch Bones and I enjoyed the pilot so at least there's that. Not sure if I'll ship Brennan/Booth but that one wall scene was HOT. I am easy with walls.

I went to the Great NY State Fair for the first time yesterday since I was a kid (which I don't remember) and it was fun! I rode the roller coaster there and the ferris wheel, tried to climb this rock climbing wall (it was HARD), saw a seal lion show which was super cute, petted and saw goats, ponies, llamas (VVC mascot love!), sheep, pigs, chickens and the cutest rabbits ever, saw some fireworks and walked around and saw everything. It was great to finally see everything. At the sea lion show there was the cutest moment when the trainer through a ring for them to catch too far and the other sea lion picked it up and put it on the other sea lion. Awww.

So tomorrow I start college again. I'm taking four classes at the local community college to make sure I'm ready for classes again before I go back to Chapman (plus it's cheaper). I'm really nervous and I know I need to do well after I crashed a nd burned a year ago during spring semester. I'm taking:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9-10 Logic, 10-11 History of American Women (although I may change this if I can find something I like better)
Monday: 6-9 PM History of Ancient Philosophy
Thursday: 6-8:45 PM (can make it back home in time for The Office!) Intro to Microeconomics

I'm much more motivated to do the work and study for them after my time off in the last year so hopefully that will help. Mostly I'm just scared of failing though *worries* I just want to get back to trying to do well in school like I did back in say, seventh grade.

So on Sunday I'm going to NYC to go see the US Open final but I'm going to leave on Saturday so I can do some sightseeing and such (I miss the city!). Does anyone have any recommendations of things to do? I've already seen the Empire State building, Statue of Liberty, Chinatown, Little Italy, Rockerfeller Center, Times Square and probably some other famous attraction I'm forgetting but it was only one week so I probably missed out on a lot. Also, does anyone who lives in the NYC area want to hang out and either come with me or just watch TV/vids? I miss being with other fans! And if anyone has an extra bed or floor space that I could crash on Saturday night, I'd really appreciate it.

I totally forgot about The Office S4 DVD coming out today *facepalm* I've just had a lot on my mind and I didn't see any reminders about it so I totally forgot. Hopefully Target will still have the DVDs with the extra footage on them because I really, really want one.

Okay, time for some 90120! New TV YAY *happiness*

That's what she said...OMG what am I saying?

Had to post this TWSS moment of the day:

"When we're not on top of him, he lacks intensity" Say it with me now, THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID.

It'll never beat my favorite one though which is just horrible but so, so good:

"You can't jump down her throat everytime she opens her mouth" That's what she said! *laughs* Oh SpyRents.

And a funny one on my Flist the other day is here.

Sometimes you gotta have the sense of humor of a twelve year old.

The Dundies make everything better

Bad night for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture but as usual The Dundies makes everything better. That episode makes me so happy and I can't even write a list of stuff because it'd be insanely long. I'm much happier now and I love my show and my characters and my Office family. They are the best.

I love the foreshadowing/continuity on the show. A few examples from this episode and one other perfect one:

Dwight being a pervert in the bathroom...see Women's Appreciation
Dwight checking to see if Pam has a concussion...see The Injury
Michael dating a girl from HR
"But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late, and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments" See Performance Review, The Coup and Traveling Salesmen SO GOOD

I'm going to go laugh drunkenly with Pam, sing with Michael, walk away with Jim and clap with the gang :)

Obligatory Celebratory Post \o/

YAY Obama! *squee* I am SO happy he won the nomination :D It's been a looong way to get there but he finally did it! It is a happy day. My first time voting in a presidential election, I can actually vote for a candidate I actually believe in and trust. Now if I just ignore my parents, I'll be all set. I'm trying not to get my hopes too high but at the same time I reeeeeeeeally want him to win it. If I thought I was crushed in 2004, this one would devastate me. But for now, I'm thinking positive. It's just so historic and amazing that I get to experience this moment in history. Dare I say it, LEGENDARY.

I will never get over that he loves The Wire. Now don't be Carcetti!

On a personal note, I have decided to try and lose weight to be healthier and the nice looking better benefits. So far, a week and a half, eating better and exercising almost every day for an hour is going well. Took a nice long bike ride today and after a hellish climb up a bunch of hills, I got to soar down lots and lots of hills. Veeery fun. I love that feeling, like I'm flying with the wind against me. One of the reasons I love to bike.

Also, rewatching The Office makes me very, very happy. Casino Night never gets old. And this time Jim actually made me cry. Too sad. Conflict Resolution is another of my favorites that doesn't get enough love in my opinion. I can watch it over and over and it still cracks me up. ART THAT DESTROYS SOULS! Hee. Best picture ever also.

OMG this is the gayest week(end) of my life

So I may have spent most of Memorial Day weekend watching all of Brothers & Sisters. But it was so worth it! I enjoyed it greatly and it was so nice to get addicted to a show again for the first time since Oz. I was really annoyed the other day seeing someone describe TV as "visual crack" but you know what? I love my visual crack. The addictive quality is the best part! So I started watching mostly for the gay storylines with low expectations but it turned out to be pretty good. I love the family banter among all the family with all the funny lines and making fun of each other in a affectionate way. My two favorite characters turned out to be Kevin (I am nothing if obvious) and Sarah who I recommend for everyone on my Flist who loves strong, business women who are awesome. Also Sally Field is wonderful as Nora and it's so great seeing Ron Rifkin back on my screen! Odd at first as I kept expecting a Rambaldi reference or him to have some kind of mastermind plan or being weirded out that he has slightly similar relationship to his former psyriatrist on Alias. I wonder if I don't like Balthazar Getty or he just has a habit of picking kind of wooden characters because he's the weakest cast member for me here. The Everwood cast is fun to see here too as well (damn you, Berlanti! hee) and it cracks me up that Robert McAllister is like Bobby from Jack and Bobby. Rob Lowe is pretty but I HATE the politics storyline on the show. There was a great quote that described me from the show, I don't like the fight [of politics], I like supporting the cause. But the family and relationship stuff is great.

It's just so nice to see a gay character (Matthew Rhys is soooo cute as is his accent) get the same amount of time as straight ones in his relationships. There is plenty of boykissing on this show :D It SOOTHES MY SOUL. It really does. I never get enough of it. And Scotty is adorable especially when he smiles and kind of closes his eyes *melts* I'm so easy. It's amazing what having one gay couple can help break up the heteronormality (see also Grey's Anatomy).

Anyways, spoilers: Spoilers for S1-2 of Brothers and Sisters )

I think loving this show is my cue to watch Six Feet Under which while it has a different tone and better overall writing, is all about a family with a family business, a gay character (Michael C. Hall!) with boykissing and Rachel Griffiths. So add that to my long TV watching list. Which speaking of, here's a TV meme about the past TV season:

TV 07-08 Season Meme )

I've been sick with a cold/headache all weekend as well which was annoying but thankfully it's mostly gone. I've been feeling pretty optimistic about my life lately which is always good. This summer I really want to do a lot of things I haven't done before. For one, I want to really explore the city and go out and do stuff which I've never really experienced or seen. Plus I want to visit some places from my childhood that I never really got to say goodbye to. I just never went out a lot in high school and I'd like to really do that. Also I'm planning on going on seeing the US Open finals if I can because I reeeally want to see Federer play (my favorite tennis player) and hopefully tie or beat Pete Sampras's (my previous favorite). I saw them play together a few months ago (on TV) and it was just amazing. So that will be a fun NYC trip.

I've been feeling a lot more romantic for awhile now, Jack/Irina kind of inspired me back in January and it hasn't really gone away so who knows, maybe I'll find someone. It feels like I'm over my two year kind of thing (don't ask) and even though who I'm looking for is rare, you never know. It'd just be nice to actually experience romance versus live vicariously through my favorite TV character although that's always a nice alternative for my hopeless romantic self.

I'm been in kind of a vidding funk in typical horrible timing but I'm working on my 5 facts vid meme I got tagged for and it's just so much fun! It's definitely helping so that's good. Now that TV season is over, hopefully I'll have more time for vidding stuff.

I've been experiencing an Office renaissance with all my love for the show coming back full force as I rewatch the show. It's reminding me why this show is my favorite and why I want to obsess about it so much. I'm still going to be doing my rewatch with clip notes/posts after Vividcon season is over. But for now fun rewatching is always great. It's funny, in the past couple weeks, I've had people on my Flist falling for The Office, Firefly and The Wire and it just makes me SO HAPPY to see such great reactions to them and reminds me of the first time I fell in love with all of them. It really is an amazing feeling and one I wish I could repeat sometime. And that is why I watch so much TV, in that never ending hope that I'll find another show that makes me feel that way and so full of love.

Wherein I am a bad Wire fan and watch a lot of TV

So I just found out that Beadie from The Wire was Holly in last night's Office! I can't believe I didn't recognize her. I knew she looked familiar but couldn't place her. I almost would expect Michael to be like, "hey, aren't you from The Wire?" He does watch it! It makes sense though that they'd want to hire The Wire actors. Maybe there will be more in the future? *hopes*

So Upfronts week is officially over and all the major TV networks have revealed their fall schedules. Go here for grids for the fall 2008 TV season. There's a decent number of new shows coming than what I was expecting although lower than normal but that also means that I suffered no canceled show casualties *celebrates* So I combed the lists to find new shows I'm interested in checking out. Again when I look for new shows this is why I'm watching them: original concept and/or sounds interesting, writers and actors I can trust/like seeing, serial or at least has a serial element, for comedies: smart humor and/or single camera, and fannish interest (hard to parse right now). If I hear lots of great reviews, critically or fannishly, I may give the show a try/another try so I'm always open to more. I will say the nice thing about TV that keeps me from becoming completely overwhelmed is unlike movies, music or books, there's not a a bajillion coming out each year. At least there's a manageable number to sort through even if the high cost does make it hard to get TV shows on the air. My current perspective is it's better to keep on track of the new shows while slowly working my way through the old as I reverse my way back through the history of TV. Here are some new shows and why I'm checking them out:

Dollhouse because it's JOSS WHEDON and I'll follow him to the end of the earth. Plus Eliza Dushku and Helo from BSG with an interesting premise. Must watch new show of the year. My Own Worst Enemy because the concept sounds interesting with the alter ego spy aspect and fighting yourself. 90120 because it's in Beverly Hills (SoCal love!), Michael from The Wire is in it, Jessica Walters from Arrested Development is in it, Rob Thomas is executive producer (although I hear he stepped down-probably a good idea) and the original is a guilty pleasure I've seen once in awhile. Fringe because it's got J.J who at least knows how to handle a concept in the beginning and sounds intriguing with a larger serial plotline as well as having Lance Reddick from The Wire (and Miguel from Oz!). Stylista because it's like The Devil Wears Prada and Ugly Betty and I love both even if I didn't like Anne Slowely much on Project Runway. The Office spin off because it's The Office, duh. Life on Mars because I loved the UK one and even though I hate the Sam casting and it doesn't look that great, it's worth a chance. The Listener because reading peoples' minds fascinates me. Crusoe because it's an interesting idea, based on a classic book and reminds me of why I originally liked Lost S1 with the desert island premise. The Ex List because Diane Ruggiereo is the co-executive producer and I loved her episodes on Veronica Mars and I'm always interested in relationships and compatibility. Flashpoint because it's got Enrico (Keith from Veronica Mars!) and Hugh Dillion (who I haven't seen yet but I know will be good) and sounds fun. Sit Down Shut Up because it's co run by Mitchell Hurwtiz, another writer who I'd follow anywhere as well as voices of Jason Batemen and Will Arnett (reunion much?). Merlin and Kings sound unique among the TV out there right now and serial as well which means I'm willing to take a chance on them. Swingtown because historical dramas that have a focus on change and experimentation is always interesting to me. The Last Templar (mini-series) because of VICTOR GARBER and a cool four horsemen story. Caprica because I love BSG and am interested in seeing the characters previous lives. Cupid because I love the original and enjoyed the banter and romance plots no matter the actors. The Stranded because I find the concept EXTREMELY interesting.

TV Schedule For Next Season (subject to change) )

Oh and yes, I've decided that I definitely want to work in the TV industry in some capacity. In the interest of following my passion and all that.

Read less, more TV.

I watched The Office up to The Client last night and it was so much fun! Michael/Jan were so perfect back then, it makes my heart happy. Everything was perfect in my eyes. Oh, my show.

Gossip Girls is reminding me of Veronica Mars (and not because of Kristin Bell's voiceover) in terms of relationships which can only be a good thing. Spoilers for Gossip Girl up to Woman on the Verge )

There's a new interview up with Silvio Horta's thoughts on this season of Ugly Betty and the next. It reminds me of Tim Kring's interview where he acknowledges the mistakes of S2 (although UB's weren't as bad IMO) and promises to fix them next season. Plus UB is moving to NYC next season! Personally I love it because shooting on location brings more of a realistic touch to the show. The sad thing is that Marco Pennette's leaving the show :( He wrote the Thanksgiving episode (Dreamgirls dancing!), Don't Ask, Don't Tell (favorite episode still), East Side Story and the Wedding episode (one of my absolute favorites). Spoilers for Ugly Betty up to Betty's Baby Bump )

Nothing much to say about BSG except that the last episode was awesome and got me excited about the show again so yay BSG!

Spoilers for Doctor Who up to the latest episode )

If you've ever considered watching How I Met Your Mother (or haven't!), I'd check out [livejournal.com profile] spectralbovine's pimping post for it here. He sums up a lot of the reasons I love it so much from it's lovable, pretty, relatable ensemble of characters to the nonlinear narrative timelines and flashbacks. It really is a smart, great show and after the first 8 episodes or so gets immeasurably more awesome. Spoilers for How I Met Your Mother up to Everything Must Go )

Spoilers for Grey's Anatomy up to The Becoming )

The thing that bugs me about 30 Rock which I also had an issue with on Veronica Mars and Alias is how it seems like since they have the main character be a woman, they have zero or one other woman regular and that's it. The biggest thing about 30 Rock is where are the women writers? We have Tina Fey and that's it. Personally I only like Twofer and think the other writers are pretty lame. I wish Amy Poehler would star as a new writer although I doubt that's likely now. Anyways, I will keep enjoying the hell out of Liz and Kenneth like I always do. Spoilers for 30 Rock up to the finale )

Taken from [livejournal.com profile] celli: Cast your dream TV series of all time. Three to five actors, must include at least one male and one female. Tell me why they'd be so awesome together.

(Bonus points for show premise/location.)

Here's my answer and yes, I have thought of this a lot:

Lena Olin, Victor Garber, Gale Harold, Randy Harrison with special guest starring by Jennifer Garner. Insane amounts of chemistry all over the place and lots and lots of pretty.

It'd be an Alias spin off where Irina and Jack start their own spy agency in NYC (solving the Lena Olin problem) and eventually get Gale and Randy (characters TBD)to join them who fall in love and are the gay spy team. Sydney shows up a lot to go on missions with her parents. Jack is still never sure if Irina is using the resources and plans for her own motives...but that's what makes it fun. Flashbacks to earlier times in their relationship abound, Irina gets to spend lots more time with her sisters and family (Isabelle Rossalini guest stars) and there is an elaborate plan they work against that is completely serial starting from the beginning and ending with a huge bang that was all worth it. Lots of kissing and sex for all members of the cast as well as lots of Office like humor.

I'd probably spontaneously burst into flames because of the awesome, hotness and perfectness of this show every week but it'd be worth it.

So what are yours?
