Spoilers for American Idol Finale )

In other news, last final is tomorrow. A bit worried because my motivation has dropped down to almost zero. Thankfully it shouldn't be too hard but I do really want an A in this class. Finished my two hardest finals on Monday and think I did well enough for at least a B on both of them so I'm okay. In better college news, I'm changing my major. I was frustrated because my major wasn't artistically creative enough and none of the other majors fit me so I decided to create my own major. Going to do a Web Design major combining art and computer science so I'm really excited about it. Going back to NY on Saturday night, I think I'll be okay for the summer. If anyone in the LA area wants to meet up Friday evening/night, let me know. In other good news, I do these economic experiments for money and I won 100 dollars last week! It was amazing, I had 20 chances to pick a number from 1-100 and if the random computer picks the number, then I win and I picked 43 and did! Sooo nice.

GLEE!! It certainly made me gleeful. I will give Fox mad props for airing Glee after American Idol where it fits in perfectly. Spoilers under the cut )

In short, I am completely in love with it and I have a new show, yay! I am so sad I missed the preview in Santa Monica with the cast but sadly SoCal public transportation SUCKS. Ah well, I'm sure it'll be at Paley next year. This helps the lonely sad hole that Pushing Daisies left in my heart. Yes, I finally watched the final episode and it reminded me why I love the show so much. I may have teared up at the end. Damn you, ABC. And speaking of, I tried Cupid but sadly the female lead was horrible. So NOT my Claire Allen. The Trevor guy was good but the difference between Jeremy Piven and him was striking since Piven is so amazing. Poor, poor show.

I had one of those rare vid match making sessions the other day as I was able to pair a vid idea I want to do with a song that I thought would be great to vid to. And it TOTALLY works. I'm so excited that I went and vidded the ending since it works so well. Here's two House vid recs: I Just Want You by [profile] inkytips is a super cute House/Wilson vid that pretty much sums up exactly what I believe about their relationship. It uses some of the wonderful S5 clips with a nostalgic look back at past seasons. I like the pacing on it too. I also like Meds by [profile] scully1121, a great more character focused House vid (although a bit too much House/Cuddy for me personally but that's just me) about obviously, House and vicodin. I love the jump cut editing and use of imagery. HUGE spoilers for the S5 finale so don't watch if you plan to.

I have two Dreamwidth invites if anyone needs one. Leave me a comment and I'll invite you :) And a pretty, Brian/Justin kiss picture before I go. Keep it gay everyone, keep it gay.

Happy Office Day everyone! I am reeeally looking forward to tonight's episode as it sounds really, really good. And the promo was absolutely delightful. Michael/Ryan, yay! Plus ALL my shows are coming back for the best night on TV. Ugly Betty, Grey's and Supernatural are all back making me very, very happy along with The Office, Scrubs and 30 Rock. I am annoyed at the Scrubs and 30 Rock shift because it messes up my perfect comedy night of Ugly Betty, The Office and Scrubs that all fit so well with being all about the character love. But whatever, downloading solves all problems. Now all I need is for House to come back and all my favorite shows will be back (not counting the ones returning in the fall).

Lost and me are broken up now. I'm going to marathon the show once it's over but I barely get any pleasure from it anymore and feel like a puppet being dragged in crazy directions. I just don't see the brilliance no matter what people say. Hating Jack and most of the characters is probably the biggest reason. It's going to stop being abusive boyfriend now.

Random TV snippets: Absolutely loved How I Met Your Mother (which reminded me why I ship and watch TV with the euphoria) and The Office last week but don't really have much to say about them right now. Enjoyed the latest Doctor Who eps but the episodic nature of it bores me to death. Still miss Martha. OMG NEXT WEEK though. Caught up on Gossip Girl and am enjoying Chuck/Blair, Chuck/Nate and the cuteness of Eric. Also finished watching Eli Stone and Victor Garber continues to make me squee along with the yummy slashiness that is Eli/Jordan. I LOVE all the singing and musical numbers. Having sworn off Law and Order, Christopher Meloni made me change my mind with SVU because he is SO DAMN HOT and I just can't resist his insane amounts of charisma. I swear I don't usually watch actor's work just because I like their character but Victor Garber and Chris Meloni act in a way that reminds of their past characters and it's just nice seeing them again. I wish Lena would do more TV because I want to see her as well! Oz and Beecher/Keller have managed to get under my skin so I can't help but love and think about them so I'm slowly rewatching the first season. B/K kind of traumatized me by hurting me so much though so sometimes it's hard to watch.

I'm posting more of my Queer as Folk and Brian/Justin thoughts at IJ since some of the fandom is over there so if you want to read about that my journal's here. I'm also posting pretty regular updates at Twitter here if anyone is actually interested. I do better with short updates so I can override my perfectionist tendencies and I'm hoping this will be useful in the future if I want to see what I was up to back in the day.

I may have finally settled on my Premiere video after three tries. With some audio editing, I think it's manageable. I really hate vidding to deadlines though, the pressure can be so paralyzing. Hopefully someday I'll learn to start early.

Next up on my TV catching list: The OC S4, Flight of the Conchords, Prison Break S3, Psych, Sports Night and Carnivale.

[Current Mood |productive]

I have a lot of stuff to catch up on so bear with me.

So I have made it back to Syracuse, NY but not before the Travel Curse struck again! I had my first late night flight a week and a half ago and it was awesome to have Dan in Real Life being the movie they played for us. I had a one stop flight so I landed in Philly where I had to go from the D gate to the F gate. I carry my heavy laptop bag and backpack and walk to get to the F gate when I see a metaphoric fork in the road so to speak saying one way to the ABCD gates and another sign to E and F and another with a warning about how if you go this way you have to rescreen. They mention a shuttle but I don't see a sign for it so I go towards the E and F gate. When I see a security guard I ask him where I can catch the shuttle to the F gate. Surprise! I missed it and I was told I couldn't go back and had to keep walking. And of course I had to rescreen at 7 am EST with a huge line and 50 minutes til my flight left it. I kept getting closer and closer and hoping I'd make it, pissed off because I never wanted to be in a situation where I would miss my flight (I always try to get there 2 hours early) and of course with 10 minutes to my flight leaves I get through airport security where they take five minutes taking out ALL my hard drives and cords and putting them through the baggage checker even when I told them I needed to hurry. And of course my gate was the farthest away so even though I ran I missed my flight. Thankfully another one left in two hours so it wasn't too bad a wait but then when I get back to Syracuse they lose my check in luggage. The good news is they returned it a day later but it was still extra frustration.

I'm back now and although it's cold, I'm all layered up and at the moment it's not too bad so I don't even need my winter coat :) I can deal with it for a few months. I am SO happy to see my cats again, I missed them so much and now I have many hugs and cuddle sessions to catch up on. Am currently looking for a job which I should hopefully get soon as I need some money. The bad news is TWO of my hard drives have stopped working, the ones with all my DVDs (thankfully I have some on my last remaining hard drive for my current vid projects), music (I have some on my laptop so I'm not totally screwed there) and TV shows. But I do have fast internet back so it doesn't take very long to download stuff. I had forgotten how nice it is to download an episode in 10 minutes or so :D I'm disappointed that a short trip to NYC I was going to do today didn't happen but thankfully NYC is only 5 hours or so away and hopefully I can visit soon! I really want to see Bryant Park and hopefully Tim Gunn if I can plan a trip right. I just miss the city even if LA will always own my heart.

I spent my time after my trip catching up on some shows, marathoning Lost and reorganizing my vid files and a few other things. Up til now, My Videos has been organized by having many folders named by fandom and I'd put a vid I downloaded into the fandom folder it belonged too. But to make it easier to open up a lot of vids all at once, I decided to rename ALL my vid files by adding the fandom to the beginning of the video even if it was just "Anime", "Movies" or "Multifandom". I also made a New Vids folder for the vids I download that I'm too lazy to rename and to make it easier to watch new vids I download. It took awhile and I had to reconstruct my vids playlist but it's been worth it has everything is much more organized and easier to get at and with my 40+ GB of vids, I need that. How does everyone else organize their vids? In order to catch up with my Flist I also made some filters to put every single member of my Flist on a smaller reading list to make it less overwhelming to reply to posts. So far that's worked pretty well although hopefully I won't need to use it too much.

The Writer's strike is over! YAY :D I find it wonderfully coincidental that I leave for CA when the strike began and left right when it ended. I am so happy to at least get a salvaged season with some news episodes of some of my favorite shows. Namely The Office in which we get 6 more episodes and possibly an hour finale! I'm am just SO EXCITED to see the next episode on April 10th which is supposed to be amazing and funny and intense and unique. So I'm really looking forward to that. Not so excited about them skipping ahead in time because I like to see how things progress and for vidding purposes. The good news is almost all my shows are renewed and I'm hoping desperately that Friday Night Lights will be renewed. I cannot wait til April! Should be awesome to have new TV on almost every night.

In hopefully what will be the last time I talk politics before November, a quick word. I am for (and will vote for) whatever Democrat wins the primary. I'd be okay with either of them although I prefer Obama but as long as Bush is gone and there is not another Republican in the White House then I'm happy. Should be fun to live with a super conservative and Ron Paul supporter politics people until November though (NOT). I will find refuge in my politics free zone or mostly liberal Flist happy place though.

Okay, meme time! 5 question and 5 OTP memes )

[written yesterday] Yay Project Runway tonight! I love Wednesday's because it's the start of new episodes with PR and Torchwood. And tonight is a reunion episode and I LOVE reunion episodes. The video montages are always awesome and there is lots more Tim Gunn and it's fun seeing all the contestants again. I don't think they can ever beat the S2 one though but here's hoping. I'm SURE we're going to see a Ricky crying video and a Christian one with all the time he says fierce or similar funny statements. And this time I can actually watch it live and not have to wait five days for the torrent!

Spoilers up to the latest Project Runway episode (not the reunion) )

Spoilers for Stargate Atlantis up to Midway )

Contrary to most of my Flist, I'm just not feeling the Supernatural love these days. I don't know if it's overexposure or S3 in general but I just can't get emotional about the boys and show anymore :( I cried at the S2 finale and now just nothing. And I'm not really intellectually interested anymore. I have really liked the last few episodes and Dean and Sam have been really cute so at least there's that. I'm glad everyone else is loving and investing in the show though.

So I'm watching Eli Stone primary for Victor Garber and thankfully it is pretty funny enough to keep me entertained. The biggest GLEE moment is definitely getting to see Victor sing. Here's a youtube clip of it. I love his voice. It's such a disconnect seeing him so NOT!Jack Bristow but his line at the scene reminds me strongly of him so at least there's that. But he SMILES! I will never get enough of that; it makes me smile in turn. The other thing about the show I love is Tom Amandes is in it! I loved him in Everwood and just seeing him onscreen makes me happy.

Spoilers for Eli Stone up to 103 )

In more Victor Garber singing clips of LOVE, here's him singing and then singing and dancing in Anne with my favorite song from the musical. I pretty much die with glee everytime I see it. He's SO CUTE! It is a little too much for me to handle. Oh and him being gay only makes me love him even more. I sure do know how to pick them :)

Next post: DIY, more TV and Jack/Irina gushing (OMG I LOVE THEM SO MUCH).

Vid Rec and Rewatching Shows [Nov. 24th, 2007|01:59 pm]

Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a great day full of reasons to be thankful. I've been feeling rather laconic and withdrawn lately so I haven't had much to say lately although I have a bunch of posts to make at some point. I truly am thankful to be here in the greatest place on earth, California (for me) and to have family, friends and the wonderful joys of TV and fandom. Don't know where I'd be without all that.

For now though, I have a vid rec for a vid I'm completely in love with! When I heard [livejournal.com profile] buffyann was watching and loving Queer as Folk and specifically Brian/Justin, I was ecstatic (I believe my exact words were "We got Buffyann! We got Buffyann!"). And today she finally released a vid for the show! The vid is When the Sun Goes Down, Brian/Justin, Club Vivid style with lots of fast paced, amazing editing with the most beautiful, hottest clips out there of my favorite ship. I haven't seen a vid this hot since Danger by [livejournal.com profile] f1renze. Beautiful use of motion that mesmerizes you into the wonderful world of the show. Also, two boys kissing and loving will never not be hot. I am a slasher at heart and always will be. *rewatches vid over and over*

I watched Enchanted the other day and enjoyed it a lot but it made me wish for a gay fairytale movie to come out. Probably will take it awhile but that would definitely make me happy to see. Sometimes I really wish there was a lot more shows like QaF out there where the default wasn't straight and slashers wouldn't even have to slash, it would just be there. I will keep wishing!

I finished my rewatch of Veronica Mars S1 today. Wow, that show will always emotionally get to me so well. Oh Veronica and Lily <3. I only wish the show had stayed at the same level for S2 and S3. It's nice getting to rewatch shows that I usually am too busy to. I'm rewatching House (or at least everything that has House, Wilson or Cuddy in it) in order to take clip notes (so boring but worth it!) for it and it definitely has some wonderful quotes and OTP and OT3 scenes. The end of 105 in particular is adorable :) House/Wilson just totally own my heart. It's funny how I've been adoring Wilson even more these days to the point where I almost wish the show was all about him. Are there any good Wilson vids out there that aren't too shippy? In any case, it's so nice to see Wilson actually get screen time that doesn't take place thirty minutes into an episode. In fact, a lot of the time he gets the very first scene. It just shows how important he really is, at least back in the day. Same with Cuddy who didn't get any of the screen time she deserved last week in an episode all about her. At least watching the first season is letting me see and enjoy House, Wilson and Cuddy so I can get my filling of them.

These Christmas sales are waaay too tempting when I don't have the money for it. I want so many TV shows on DVD! Not to mention the big screen TV and 1 TB external hard drive (it's for vidding!). Ah well, someday...

So [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 has been talking about doing a Brian/Justin vid for awhile now and I've been dying to see what she would do with it. She finally posted it and it is AMAZING! Absolutely stunning use of color and motion not to mention a heartbreakingly perfect portrayl of the B/J relationship and Brian's psyche. So go download here!

Thank god for Spring Break :D

1. First on Friday I met Colin and Brad, waited outside the stage door with some other fans and they came out and I got both their autographs, a picture with both of them (will post it online soon) and I talked briefly to both of them saying I loved Whose Line and their performances. Extra bonus I talked with Colin (*squee*) and asked him if he was going to perform with Ryan again anytime soon. He said Ryan was in semi-professional retirement to which I said he was performing with Greg, Jeff and Chip. He said he was mostly in the Northwest and since he hated flying (my reply: I know) that it was hard. But he did say maybe. So take that as you will.

2. I'm now in Minneapolis and after a rocky start, things are going well. I saw the Mall of America which is HUGE and sooo cool to have roller coasters in it. Best idea ever. Also it was great to see [livejournal.com profile] jackiekjono and [livejournal.com profile] lapillus again, both who are super nice and awesome. Currently I'm with [livejournal.com profile] heresluck who basically wins at life for being so generous and amazing. It's great spending time with fans :)

3. Only three more days until The Office! I an seriously dyng for new episodes here.

Beach trip, coping mechanisms, Queer as Folk, Whose Line and why I vid versus fic [Jan. 16th, 2007|02:20 pm]

[Current Mood |contemplative]

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro and [livejournal.com profile] ringwrench! I hope you both have wonderful days full of joy, fannish goodies and cake :)

Last Tuesday I celebrated the last 80 degrees day here by going down to Long Beach for the first time. It was really nice, I loved the marina and the downtown area was great. Plus I went swimming even though the water was freezing since I've never gotten the chance to do so in the ocean in January. It was a very Veronica Mars moment. Even with the recent cold front which hasn't been that bad considering I can handle 60's and tolerate 50s. Still loving that I have tons of free time and can do whatever I want with it. Also a book rec, Rainbow Boys by Alex Sanchez. I randomly started reading it in a library in Buffalo after using the internet because it had three cute boys on the cover and I figured I might as well slash them. Turns out I didn't need to (which is easily seen by the title but I didn't notice that) and it was a very good book about three gay teens trying to deal with their lives. I had a lot of fun finding parallels to Queer as Folk as there are a bunch of them. There's Nelson, a combination of Emmett and Michael with the PFLAG mom and crush on his best friend, Kyle. Kyle's a much toned down version of Justin with the coming out issues who has a crush on Jason who is not Brian (sadly) but more like a good version of Chris Hobbes (although his family has some Brian issues). It's a fun read, I really enjoyed it.

New Coping Mechanisms:

Get fully invested in watching the entire Chargers game only to see them lose heartbreakingly so...watch Whose Line. (No more football for me)
Feel down or bored or angry (most recently at a Smallville promo that made me want to throw up...one word: Clana)...watch Whose Line.

Replacing Whose Line with The Office or Gilmore Girls works well to. Laughing really does help a lot. I am loving The Office with Michael just being hilarious with his horrible social skills and bad jokes. Best comedy I've seen since Arrested Development and I love the camera work. Supernatural and Grey's Anatomy are still awesome on Thursday nights, I don't really have much to say that hasn't been already said.

On a Queer as Folk note, my personal awards as I go through the episodes in future vid work:

My favorites under the cut )

More reasons Colin Mochrie is made of awesome: not only are three of his favorite TV shows Buffy, Angel and Firefly (can't get much better than that), his favorites are: The musical episode and "Hush" are my favorite Buffy's. The Angel episode where he turns into a Muppet is fun and all of the Firefly episodes. I would have loved to have been a funny vampire on Buffy. Yay for the musical and all of Firefly, of course :)

Whose Line ramblings under the cut )

Oh and I wrote some fic! Whose Line, Ryan/Colin. I've written some other fics at times but have never finished or published any online. It reminded me though why I stick with vids love is to see is the Colin and Ryan show, all improv between them ALL the time. It'd be pure heaven, loads of slash I'm sure and too funny. I really think they are the best at improv in terms of laughabiliand not fic. For one, I'm just not that interested in writing fic as I don't get a lot of ideas and don't find it really enjoyable. It's nice once in awhile though. My biggest problem, especially with fanfic, is that I find it really hard to write the characters. I always feel like the characters when I write them are one dimensional and almost always OOC. I feel I put too much of myself into fics and it doesn't come out as the unique characters. I also find it hard to express what I see in my head and that really, really frustrates me, being a perfectionist. I read so many other amazing fics and I would love to write like them but realistically, it's just not going to happen. And I know practice makes perfect and all that but I'm not all that interested in doing so. I hate taking an idea that I love so much and writing it and then feeling like it's crap and I did what I imagined an injustice. I'd much rather spend my time vidding, trying to be the best vidder I can be and making vids that I enjoy and am proud of and can parse reasonably well how good they are and ways to get better. I'm much more of an idea person anyways, I like making connections and drawing parallels and juxtapositions in the text instead of making up new things. Which I do enjoy but usually more in a imagination sense, another reason why I enjoy reading fic so much more than writing.

The thing is, I get into a show when I love the source. For all my fandoms, I love the characters and the relationships and the storylines and I want to show why I love it so much. That's why I love vidding so much, to visually show why I love it and usually the specific parts I really enjoy. A lot of times my favorite ideas and vids to watch are explorations of a character through a relationship since that's one of my favorite things about shows. My favorite fics are often the same thing and the more interesting takes on characters and meta on the show are usually where my interest lies. But a key difference in why I read fic is because I want to see something that was never shown on screen and often not possible to show. That's why I most read slash when I read fic, because I see a lot of het onscreen (and in RL) that I don't need to see as much of it unless a pairing really grabs me and leaves me wanting more.

This is why even though I LOVE Brian/Justin from Queer as Folk, I barely read any fic for them because I don't feel a need to. I got so much of what I wanted onscreen, so much romance and love portrayed in so many ways that I don't really need the fic. But because I got so much onscreen, it makes me want to vid it a LOT because there's so much to show especially in terms of the ever interesting Brian Kinney. Contrast that with Whose Line which, because of the nature of the show, gets almost no dramatic storylines at all which I love. So I'm shipping a slash pairing that I see so many of the classic romantic, sexual, friendship signs from, even getting kisses along the way, but yet I never see any classic plots. It leaves me always wanting more, of the ship and of the *real* story of them, the dramatics and angst and romance. Everything. And because it doesn't look like there'll ever be a happy ending (for what I want), my need will never be satisfied which always drives me wanting more fic of any kind. It's a much harder show to vid for that very same reason, so many of the things I wish I could vid happened offscreen so I must make do with what I have and through fic.

In conclusion, Dean yay, vidding! (I swear I'll have a new one out this week),

I finally finished that vid yesterday :D It's a Brian/Justin vid that you can find here: http://community.livejournal.com/qaf_giftxchnge/20765.html although you have to join to see it. I'll post it up in a week or so but there are some other good QAF vids there so I'd check it out. I'm just so glad to have won the war against Premiere by only importing sections of my vid and then importing them back into Premiere which then let me export the entire thing. I was so tired after I finished it, the Life Cycle of Vidding (http://sockkpuppett.livejournal.com/33604.html) step 22, "God, I'm depressed. Post vid letdown. It's almost like giving birth." never felt so true. For once I was sick of vidding and needed a break.

One day later...now I want to vid again :) I have to catch up with some feedbacking, commenting and watching TV shows first though. I'm going away for a few days without internet access so I'm going to try to do some of that while I'm there. And watching more Gilmore Girls because I love that show SO much. The second season is just as side splittingly funny as the first and I'm still loving the family dynamcs sooo much. The Lorelai and Emily fashion scene in 207 is the funniest scene ever and cracks me up like nothing else. I so want to vid them now. And I apparently love Lorelai with anyone she wants because I'm loving both Luke/Lorelai and Christopher/Lorelai. Are there vids for this show? Because I need to see some vids once I'm done and I only know of [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's one. I need to find some icons too.

VIVIVDCON OMG! [Aug. 9th, 2006|06:03 pm]

anoel
[Tags|, , , ]
[Current Mood |excited]

It's starting to finally hit me that I'm going to Chicago for Vividcon, leaving in only one day. OMG sooo excited. I swear that I couldn't sleep last night because the anticipation was killing me. Which might be because I imagined what it would be like there but that's what I do with something that is totally new to me as its my first con, first big trip without my parents and first time meeting tons of new people who better yet are going to be fans, VID fans no less. Still haven't packed or even done the little shopping I need to do (doing that next) but that's because I prefer to wait to the last minute (ie tomorrow) for this kind of thing. I'm actually taking the train (Amtrak) as I don't have my license yet (yes I know, I really do need to get it) although even if I did, my family probably wouldn't be able to spare a car. I'd fly but I really don't have *that* much money for Vividcon as I am but a poor college student and so I'm trying to get the cheapest things. Which means taking a bus as well but I already did that on my trip to Toronto so I know I can do that.

I'll be leaving on Thursday night and get there Friday morning and should be at the hotel around 10:30 AM, just in time for registeration. And meeting everyone! I just know I'm going to be scared out of my mind, just meeting one person I met online (hi [livejournal.com profile] insomnikat) freaked me out (think shaking) but I am just so excited to meet so many people I admire and like, that I'll deal with it because OMG VVC. I have a (mental) list of people I must go up and talk to (although I'd always prefer people coming up to me...) because I love their vids/fic/think they're cool and I want to take advantage of my oppurtunity to say it in person. And hey, if I get scared, I can always go hide in my hotel room. But no, at the very least, I should have a great time at the vidshows and panels as that's not scary at all and should have tons of good vid talk.

Here's my list of vidshows/panels I'll be at in list version: The Wayback Machine, Color Explosion (both parts), Music (both parts), Supernatural party, Club Vivid, Symbol & Metaphor, Great Transitions, Professional Inspiration, Vid as Collage, Audio Editing, Lord King Bad Vid, SV/SGA party, Premieres, Karoke, Karoke take down volunteering, Vid Review, In Depth Vid Review, Special Effects, Challenge, Auction. That's pretty much Vividcon in a nutshell for me. Admittedly, I lean more towards panels than vidshow just because I LOVE vid meta and I'm okay with seeing vids online rather than in vidshows. I think I have a good mix though and I really look forward to being with people who love vidding and meta and fandom as much as me. Club Vivid is just going to be SO fun, I was watching the Joxer Dance and some of last years Club Vivid vids and I couldn't wait to be there with everyone dancing with it. I don't dance much myself (again, shy) but I love being in that atmosphere. And Premieres and seeing everyone's new vids before anybody else is going to be so awesome.

On a vid note, I am almost done with my Brian/Justin video but I'm having technical problems AGAIN (grr) so its taking longer than I thought. This is the vid that actually came out close to the image I have in my head and that I think utilizes a lot of things I've learned although it still need a good beta (or two). I hope to finish it before classes start at least. Another good thing about Vividcon, its helping me to not think so much about going to California in 11 days (YAY) because I'm just focusing my energy on one thing at a time. I think of VVC as my preparation for California/college as I'm in both instances going to a new place and meeting a lot of new people. Both very nervewracking for me but my approach to it is sometimes you have to dive in the deep end to experience all the highs in life.

[Current Mood |creative]

Just wanted to rec [livejournal.com profile] kitkatbyte's new vid, Love Ridden, a Brian/Justin s5 video. It's absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking with good use of motion and music/clip matching. Go watch it and be sure to leave feedback!

It's helped inspire me to get working on my own B/J vid that's been on hold for a year so I can finally finish it. I've been in a very vidding mood for the past two days as I've found new vid meta in various places. First I found an archive of the Music Video Bootcamp thread at [livejournal.com profile] bandofbuggered (under February 2003) with lots of good vid meta and discussion of videos and how to improve them. Even though I can't see a lot of the videos as the links don't work anymore, its still interesting to read about. Also I looked at the old posts at the Nummy Treat yahoo group and there's lots of good vid meta posts as well there. Yummy. I swear, I looove reading about making vids way too much. This is why I'm going to Vividcon (OMG 3 weeks!).

BtVs/AtS thoughts, tiny spoilers if any )

Been watching some good BtVS videos lately, its nice to finally understand what's actually happening in the vids. I can see now why BtVS/AtS is so vidded as the motion and camera angles and other cool visual things are prevalent in both. Also whenever I was watching either of the shows, a lot of clips I'd be like, oh hey, I know that visual from ____'s video. I've also watched Scooby Road, [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett's brilliant BtVS album of vids many times over and each time I pick up something new and am even more impressed with how amazing it is (plus it makes me cry almost everytime). Any vid recs for either show is always appreciated.

[Current Music |"New Frontier" by Benefits of Being Paranoid]
[Current Mood |thoughtful]

Just have to post a rec here first to one of the best vids you'll ever see, New Frontier made by [livejournal.com profile] heres_luck. It's a Serenity vid and its just amazing. Great song choice, cool movement and very interesting. It wows the mind too much to even comment. Go here: http://heres-luck.livejournal.com/183746.html to download and make sure to feedback!

Another great vidding discussion is located here: http://community.livejournal.com/vidding/493124.html where [livejournal.com profile] absolut3destiny posts feedback about a vid but more importantly goes over some interesting points about narrative, authorial intent and show/vid context. It's incredibly fascinating to think about and gives some tips on making videos better. Things I learned:

1) Look at the clip before and after each clip you put down and think about how it relates. Try to find a connection between clips. I think this works narratively and in terms of the visuals like movement, color, positions, etc.
2) The beginning is hugely important in setting up your vid so don't be random there.
3) Look at the context of the clip from what it suggests to a viewer who's never seen the show and someone who has.
4) Know what you're saying and find a narrative that illustrates that. Go from one place to another, make it a journey.
5) Make sure your song can carry your theme and only choose one. Don't have aspects conflict with each other to the detriment of the vid.
6) Focus on motion, pacing and the flow of the vid. Don't chop up sections using black/white fades unless you want to separate them.
7) Use dissolves to relect a passing of time and one thing turning into another but don't overuse.

On a personal vidding note, how come I keep coming up with video ideas that are mostly about Brian Kinney? I have 4 of them at the moment (3 B/J and 1 ensemble) and even though there are other things I want to vid, I can't seem to come up with songs for them. At the moment I need to actually start vidding although Premiere is giving me trouble so I'll need to figure that out. Technology can just be so annoying.
