So I originally had another vid planned for Premieres but after making my Club Vivid vid, I needed a break from vidding and after that I realized I wasn't going to have the time to actually make that more time intensive vid. In mid-May, I started catching up on House of Cards S2 and fell hard for this threesome which features one of the most beautiful, intense and nonverbal romantic scenes I've ever seen. As luck would have it, I heard this song in one of Spotify's playlists I was listening to as I fell asleep and I realized it was perfect for them while also having the lyrics to cover some of the political stuff I wanted to include. It was nice to have a less time intensive clipping process and the House of Cards pretty imagery helped make the vidding process mostly painless as I wanted to use the symbols to provide some context and meaning to their relationship together. It turned to be one of those vids that looks very similar to what I saw in my head before I made it which is always wonderful when it occurs.

I've wanted to make a Cristina/Meredith vid since 2005 when I was really into Grey's Anatomy and I've always promised myself when the show was over (or Cristina left) I would. Since the latter happened, last year at a Vividcon room party I swore that I'd make one for them for next year's Vividcon. Amazingly enough, I actually did it! The pairing is very meaningful to me because it was my first femslash OTP and helped keep me watching the show for many years. Last year I heard the original version of this song and I loved the chrous which seemed perfect for making a dancing focused Cristina/Meredith vid that I could premiere at Club Vivid. Unfortunately the lyrics section lacked a good dancing beat so I knew I'd have to find a remix to make the song danceable for CVV.

I searched the internet but I hated all the remixes I found so I realized I'd have to take matters into my own hands. I've always loved Titus Jones's mashups so I looked into whether he could make a custom remix for me and to my surprise, he could and for a reasonable low price! It was a really easy process for him to make the remix and he even added the quick beats right before the chorus without me asking which really enhanced the vid IMO. The clipping process was horrible because the show is so long but I started early and tried to maintain a quick pace to find all the Meredith/Cristina scenes and any other relevant clips. It took forever but I managed to do it and did some vidding in between to make it more fun. It was a bit overwhelming at first but I was able to just find the best clips to use between them and once I figured out what the different sections of the vid would be doing (in relation to Cristina's growth and journey), I was able to find the clips that would work best in each one. Overall I really enjoyed getting to squee over Meredith and Cristina's scenes again and create the friendship/femslash (I've always loved how easily their relationship can go either way and that the vid leaves it open to interpretation) vid I've always wanted to make for them.

I've wanted to make a Keith/David vid since I saw Six Feet Under for the first time and fell in love with them but my plans to actually make it kept being delayed because I kept stalling in my rewatches and putting them off til I could better take the show emotionally. But finally I found this perfect song this year and knew I just had to bump up this show in my priority rewatch list especially as I wanted to use watching it as a bit of grief therapy. The show was tough to watch at times and watching the finale was almost worst this time having a more personal experience with death but it was good to finally get to see the greatest TV show finale ending of all time again. I was able to take clip notes while watching which made clipping much easier than it could have been. The vid came together pretty easily as it was mainly finding the most significant moments for them and trying not to cry too much with the ending. This Festivids year was the year of crying for me (both happy and sad) and this vid was probably the vid I've cried the most throughout the entire process but I'm really glad I finally have a vid that sums up my feelings about them.

So I finally watched Luther around October (?) of last year and fell madly in love with Luther/Alice. I didn't expect to make a vid for them for this year's Festivids but in looking for shipper songs to express my feels for them, I heard the song Can't Pretend (which was on my to-vid playlist from last Festivids) and it was SO THEM and all of a sudden I wanted to vid it for them. Problem was I was worried about time and my original plan for this vid was a lot more ambitious (turned out it wasn't right for this vid). So I decided to pick up a pinch hit for lunesque to give me the deadline motivation to clip and vid this song which felt a bit above my ability. I clipped out most of the J/A stuff and was having fun vidding the beginning and a few other of my favorite ideas for the vid when I started stalling and having trouble getting myself to vid this. Largely I had such big perfectionist ideas about the vid that my fear of failure made me avoid the vid which is how I ended up having to vid this in the last two weeks before the deadline which does get rid of fear of failure but was not fun when also trying to finish my assignment vid. Ultimately there are a few things I wanted to change and make better but I ran out of time and now don't have the motivation to fix. But I'm glad I was able to make a shipper vid for them that expressed why I love them so much and was able to let out some of my feelings.

When I first saw Life of Pi, I thought it was one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen and I wanted to vid it. Last year I heard this song while in Europe at a museum and connected it to this fandom (I was looking for a song) and it captured what I wanted to vid about Pi. I had another song for the fandom but this song seemed a better fit for what [personal profile] thingswithwings wanted and I was happy to be able to vid this for her. I vidded most of it in November 2014 and for the most part it wasn't too hard to vid although vidding the end made me cry a lot.

I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower a few years ago and fell in love with it and was so happy to find out the writer was making a film version of the book so I could vid it. I wanted to vid the movie last Festivids but couldn't find the right song but in the last year I heard this song and fell in love as it captured the book and movie perfectly. I made this vid in the first couple weeks after assignments went out as it was relatively easy to make as most of the structure and clips easily came to me and it was a lot of fun to vid. It's a bit different than my normal style in that I wanted to let the clips breathe more and fully show the connection between the three of them.

Here's the end of the year vidding meme for 2014:

(Links can be found here: My Vids)

January:
Final Round (Pariah)
Love, Save The Empty (Masters of Sex)
All We Got (The Great Gatsby)
Get Me Bodied (The Fifth Element)

March:
Here In Your Arms (The Voice)

April:
Right Now (Game of Thrones)

June:
Ready or Not (Faking It)
Made For This (Game of Thrones)

Total Vids: 8

My favourite video this year (of my own):
Made For This because I'd been waiting to make that vid for 2 years and I was so happy to make it and let out my feelings for Cersei and Cersei/Jaime. Even though it didn't come out exactly like it did in my head, a lot of it was similar and I feel like I had to grow as a vidder to make it.

My least favourite video this year:
I like all of my vids this year but if I had to pick a least favorite, it would be Love, Save the Empty as it didn't quite come out like I had hoped and honestly, I felt like the other Festivids for the fandom were better which brought me down a bit. But I did love vidding the pairing :)

Most successful video
I was really happy with the responses to All We Got and Get Me Bodied in terms of number of comments and them being appreciated by some of the vidders I admire.

Video most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
I'm happy with all the feedback I got on my vids but I think Made For This and Final Round were the least appreciated although I expected that because of the fandoms/subject matter.

Most fun video:
Nothing super fun this year but it would be Ready or Not for the gay and Here In My Arms for the cute shippiness.

Video with single sexiest moment:
Get Me Bodied is full of them tied with the kissing section in Made For This.

Biggest vid fail:
Besides general laziness in getting vids done and having to race to the deadline, having a couple tech issues in All We Got really bothered me.

Hardest video to make:
Made For This as not only did I have to get past my show issues, I struggled to match my vid's ambition and had limited time in getting it done by the deadline.

Most unintentionally telling video:
Ready or Not.

For 2015:
I'm working on about 6 different Festivids at the moment so it's high priority to get those done. I'd like to submit a vid to Vidukon or Wiscon but I'm determined to finish my Cristina/Meredith vid next year as well as one of my more ambitious vid ideas for Vividcon. I'd like to try to keep vidding an hour a day and work on improving my vidding techniques especially visual-wise.

Okay, here's some answers for the vidding meme, first three asked by [personal profile] grammarwoman.

How many vid ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

Haha, a lot. I have about 12 right now that I'd like to do in the next year or two, some planned for Festivids or Vividcon depending on circumstances. And then there's about 18 songs or so that I might make vids for someday but it all depends on motivation, time or deadlines. Only a few of these ideas have timelines with clips on them but they're mostly secret ones for the future. I can say as I announced on Twitter that my planned Escapade vid will be a Kane/Toews vid as I found a song that's perfect for what I want to do and I'm really excited about it. The only problem is it requires a lot of finding source and clipping so that's much less fun to deal with. But I am committed to making it!

Share one of your strengths.

I've always felt that the structure of my vids was one of my vidding strong points as I absolutely love thinking about the structure of vids and how to make it clear to audiences. One of my most fun things to do is to figure out what order things should go in and how to organize the vid source so it works with the song and makes sense logically. If anyone ever is questioning their vid structure and wants to go over it with me, I'm always open to it :)

Which vid was the easiest to make?

This was harder than I thought it would be because there are a few vids of mine that were relatively easy to do since I was highly motivated, knew the source and really enjoyed doing them. I'm going to say the easiest one was my Kurt/Blaine vid, Raise Your Glass. I made it right after their first kiss aired and I was filled with love for the ship so it was a lot of fun to make. I knew the show really well so I could immediately find all the clips and clipping was relatively painless. I remember the vidding process being pretty fun as I could come up with the clips for the lyrics and there was no tech trouble or process trouble that I remember. Plus with no deadline I was able to finish a (admittedly short) vid in three days :)

At long last, here is my Vividcon 2014 Con Report :)

Con Report under the cut )

Overall it was an absolutely amazing Vividcon and I had a wonderful time getting to see so many friends again as well as meet new ones. There's never enough time to get to talk to everyone for as long as I'd like but I like to think of all my Vividcon's put together as a way to get a chance to do that and I definitely was able to have some great conversation with various people. I was really inspired by some of the vids and the panels were full of interesting discussion that has made me even more determined to keep learning and growing to become a better vidder. When I got home, I started clipping for my Club Vivid vid next year and I'm already looking forward to making Escapade vids and festivids. The con is always super well run which as we've seen this year, is not a given and I love the balance between trying new things and sticking with so many great traditions that I deeply love. I missed a lot of people this year who couldn't make it but I'm so thankful for all the people who could come and made it such an amazing experience for me. I'm so happy to be a part of such an amazing vidding community and can't wait for next Vividcon!

[Current Music |possible festivid songs?]

Even though I'm not in school right now, the beginning of September always feels like a new beginning to me. It seems like a good time to share my plans for the rest of the year and the time to come as I finally have some ideas of what I want to do.

First a catchup of the last three months. In May, I went to a fun Ingrid Michaelson concert with [livejournal.com profile] beerbad and had a great time listening to some of my favorite songs. Mother's Day was pretty sad and I tried to avoid the media but eventually gave in and just scrolled through and watched some sad TV shows and cried some. One of the most fun things I did was go to Malibu State Park and go to this little pond (not sure what the right word is here) where they had cliff jumping rocks and I went to the highest one (about 30 feet) and jumped off of it. It was SO fun and I had been feeling kind of meh about the world and it gave me an adrenaline rush that made me feel happy and full of hope again. I just love feeling like I'm flying and being that high in the air, I really felt like I was in the air on the way down and it felt amazing. I also went to a fun Harry Potter roller skating event where there was a ton of people dressed up and they played Harry Potter songs and it was just really fun even though at the end the music was meh so I put on my headphones and listened to shippy songs for my favorite couples (mostly Kane/Toews). I went to a Memorial Day BBQ with other geeky/fannish type people and had fun playing Cards Against Humanity and talking various TV shows with people. I had a lot of fun going to see the Chicago Blackhawks play the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center in my first live hockey game and I was lucky enough to see it with [livejournal.com profile] celli and get to see Toews score a goal right in front of me. [livejournal.com profile] celli and I had a lot of fun talking hockey and various real life stuff after the game and it was fun getting a chance to get to know her better. I also went to see a screening of the Mindy Project season finale and got to see a cast Q&A and later got to meet Mindy Kaling for the fourth time - and she remembered who I was for the third time ever. It was pretty cool and she even took a selfie of her and me. I also went to my second cousin's bridal shower and got to catch up with that side of my family and got to see my grandma's sister as well which was nice and I'm looking forward to going to his wedding in November.

In June, I spent a lot of time finishing my Femslash Premiere and my Premieres vid for Vividcon which was a bit stressful but I was ultimately able to finish by the deadline. I was also following the NBA draft and super happy when my favorite player, Tyler Ennis was selected 18th in the draft and another Syracuse player, Jerami Grant went to the Philadelphia 76ers which has a Syracuse player, Michael Carter-Williams who just won Rookie of the Year and who I slash with his friend on the team, Nerlens Noel so I'm looking forward to OT3ing them together. I also started watching the World Cup, following it seriously for the first time ever and fell in love with the USA team, most of all the coach, Jurgen Klinsmann. Jurgen who was a big star in Europe who won the World Cup with Germany in 1990, coached the German team to a 3rd place finish in 2006 (in Germany) but who loves the USA and lives there with his family so he decided to coach the USA team in 2011 and is attempting to turn the team around so it can eventually win the World Cup with the men's team. I really love what he's trying to do and his personality and I have a lot of hope that he can help us win it all so I began to follow the US team and was in ecstasy after we beat Ghana and went to a USA bar for the Portugal game with [livejournal.com profile] cenedrawood and was SO HAPPY when USA came back from a 0-1 deficit to be winning 2-1...only to lose in the last thirty seconds in one of the most heartbreaking sports moments ever for me. Thankfully we still had another game against Germany where Jurgen was coaching against his friend, Joachim Löm (who was his assistant coach when he coached Germany) and since I ship them together (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] caesaria), it was an entertaining game for me if terrifying. We lost by one but were still able to make it out of the group stages where we played Belgium which I don't even want to talk about because I'm still super bitter and prefer to think about how Tim Howard made 15 saves and Julian Green scored a goal on his first touch even though he's only 19 years old and was another young player that people complained about being on the roster and yet was one of the many players to prove that Jurgen knew what he was doing cause he's an amazing coach <3 Anyways, I started out rooting for Brazil (because they were at home, it meant a lot to them and they spent so much money at least they could get SOMETHING out of it), Germany, England, Italy and I also added the Netherlands after I saw their first game against Spain and enjoyed watching Robben and van Persie play. Eventually Germany and Netherlands were my favorite teams as after watching a documentary about the 2006 German team and falling in love with Robben as a player I wish I could be like, I emotionally connected with them, plus it helped that both teams did super well.

In July, I was really into basketball as the NBA summer league started and all the new rookies, 2nd year players and undrafted players trying to get a spot on rosters were playing and I watched the 76ers team do well in Orlando with my guy, Jerami Grant. The major summer league was in Las Vegas though and I decided to go to Vegas, buy tickets for the games (they're cheap) and let out my basketball feelings while trying to meet some of my favorite Syracuse players since many of them were going to be there. I had an amazing time, getting autographs and talking to Tyler Ennis, Rakeem Christmas (current SU player), Jerami Grant, Michael Carter-Williams, Baye Moussa Keita and Brandon Triche (former SU players) as well as watching a ton of players play for their teams. Unfortunately my car had some issues so I stayed longer than I wanted to but I also had fun hanging out with n0apologies (twitter) who I had met at Wincon and we had a great time talking about our lives, Adam Lambert, Queer as Folk and other fannish topics. I was also there duing the World Cup final and went to a bar to watch Germany play Argentina where thankfully Germany won and I was SO HAPPY as Jogi Low and the team had come soooo close to winning in the last 8 years and always came up a little short so I was super happy for the team to finally win it all and I just had such a fun time celebrating, happy crying and joining in the celebrations at the German bar.

Finally I got back to LA and had fun going to [livejournal.com profile] elipie's karaoke birthday party and then going to a Lady GaGa concert with her where we won free seat upgrades and got to hang in the VIP lounge with free drinks and hang out with hot half-naked boys while we could easily see Lady GaGa especially when she came over to the platform right above us. It was super fun getting to hear her sing some of her classic songs and she's an amazing performer so we had a fun time singing her songs and enjoying the performance. At the end of July, I went back home to Syracuse where I spent some time with my dad, caught up with my best friend and hung out with my cats at home. I also drove down to Pennsylvania to visit my cousin's family and spend some time with my aunt. My cousin is starting her own business so I spent a little bit of time at her shop and we also went with her family and my aunt to one of my favorite amusement parks where we used to go almost every year as a kid so it was very nostalgic to be back there again. Speaking of nostalgia, I also went to visit my childhood elementary school and was bummed to see they tore down the playground I had loved although they are building a new one, it's not the same. After that, I went to Vividcon which I'll talk about in a different post but the Wednesday after that, I had an amazing time going to Six Flags Magic Mountain with [livejournal.com profile] elipie getting a chance to talk about Vividcon, new vidding ideas and other fannish stuff.

This summer I had planned on taking some courses related to college admission counseling but after a couple of days trying to take them, I realized my heart wasn't in them as I wasn't sure yet whether that's what I wanted to do as it might not be big enough for me career-wise. Thankfully I was able to get a full refund and another thing that affected my decision was a revelation I had thought of while reading books about colleges. I kept having regrets while reading on how I wish I had gotten a true college experience and had gone to a more intellectual school when I realized - I could still do that. There was a college I had first heard about in high school called St. John's College that covered in four years, many of the so called Great Books but without lectures, it's all discussion based or laboratory based as they cover science using classic experiments and original texts for everything. Two of the most interesting aspects is learning Ancient Greek and learning math from classic books like Euclid's Elements which I've always wanted to do to understand more of where the English language comes from and understand the basis of math which I've always though could be interesting in the right context. The college is pretty intense but that's exactly what I want, a place where people want to read and think about some of life's biggest questions by reading some of the most enduring books many of which I've always wanted to read and just needed some more structure and people to discuss them with. I feel like my intellectual development has been pretty stunted the last seven years and I know I need to take a big leap to become the person I've always wanted to be and this college is the perfect way to take my communication skills both written and oral to the next level. I am an ambitious person and I have big dreams of doing things to change the world but I need to build a strong foundation so that I can accomplish that so I think I need to take a risk to go to this college and become the person I want to be.

During the summer I started working on my application which consists of three essays talking about why I want to go to the college, a book that has influenced me and a significant experience that has left an impact on me and I'm working on finishing that up by the end of this month. The college has a January program that I'm looking to get accepted at where by going to school over the summer, I'll be all caught up with the freshman year program and will be a regular sophomore by the time next September comes around (but thankfully I will get a summer vacation right before the first potential Vividcon weekend). The college gives good financial aid so I'm not too worried about the money aspect, the bigger opportunity cost for me is the time but I think the education I'm getting will be worth it and I'll be doing part time jobs, volunteer work and internships during the school years and summer to help me figure out the best work for me to do after college and I always have a backup job as a programmer as well. One of the biggest negatives is the college is in Santa Fe and although the weather is not too much colder than LA (averaging 45-85 plus like 6 snow days blech), it'll still be a big adjustment leaving the city (and friends!) I love to be in a much smaller city with less things to do (although Albuquerque is only 45 minutes away and Denver/Phoenix are semi-close too). But I think it's worth it for this oppurtunity that I can't get anywhere else and I feel like I'll always regret it and wonder what if, if I decided not to do go. Plus I'll definitely be visiting LA during breaks, Escapade and during my free summers so I think I'll be able to survive. Another concern is the book list is not that diverse but I know there are book groups there that cover more classic books written by women, minorities and Eastern writers so I'll be sure to be reading them. Something I'm excited about is they have a lot of sports intramurals so I'll still be able to play soccer, tennis and there's lots of nature for hiking and even rock climbing. Most importantly, I'll finally get to have a true college experience and make lots of new friends as even though the college is small, people are very self-selected towards the kind of people I tend to get along with (minus your obligatory pretentious arrogant idiots) so I'm looking forward to that. It'll be a big life change for me but I think this is the best step I can make in working on becoming who I want to be and for my development to being able to help the world solve the major problems we're facing.

I originally was applying for this fall semester but I was having a hard time being ready for that so I decided to wait til January although I have a plan for what I will be doing in LA until then. A friend recommended to me a friend of hers who has a philosophy PHD and is willing to meet with me to go over classic texts that I want to start reading this fall so I can have some accountability and someone to discuss things with to prepare me for St. John's College. I'm planning on working on doing more reading (besides fanfic of course) this fall as I sample many books from nonfiction to fiction in many genres. I'm going to be focusing especially about reading books about California and LA as I want to work on solving problems in the state and want to become more knowledgeable about the issues surrounding the state. I also am going to be doing some volunteering with various organizations to learn more about LA and start figuring out what exactly I would enjoy doing for jobs. I also have a part time job I'll be working on to earn some extra money. Another big goal of mine for this fall is to start seriously trying to date while I still have time in LA which should hopefully give me more motivation to do it. I'm also continuing to work on improving my Spanish through Duolingo and translating Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone from Spanish to English using my Kindle App Spanish to English dictionary. And I definitely want to spend more time with my friends in Los Angeles while I'm still here.

Another big focus for me this fall is heath and fitness as I'd like to lose about 15-20 pounds before the end of this year. I signed up for an accountability type service which has been good with keeping me on track with my eating and exercise goals. Something inspiring for me was watching Kacey Cantanzaro complete the city finals course for American Ninja Warrior, an obstacle course competition where participants can win 500k for winning the finals course in Las Vegas. That inspired me to look into parkour and rock climbing which are two training aspects that some of the best competitors do. I figured that even if I don't make it, it'd be a fun goal to try to train for the course as it looks really fun and it's something that anyone can accomplish even if they don't have a lot of training when they were younger (unlike most sports). Thankfully there is a parkour (more accurately, freerunning) gym in the LA area and I've already taken two beginner lessons there and had fun practicing in the opening gym sessions. So far it's pretty basic, working on vaulting over objects and precision jumping, jumping from one ledge to another but it's been really fun and a great workout and I look forward to being able to do the crazy workouts I see in the gym. I was super scared about doing a flip from the high ledge into the pit (filled with soft foam stuff) but finally managed to gather my courage and did as well as do some flips on the trampoline. I also attempted to run up the warped wall they have in the gym and tried to jump from one bar to another (not there yet). I've also been into soccer as I really enjoy team sports so I signed up for a three days a week soccer class at my local community college and although it's a bit intimidating as it's all guys except one other girl and many of them want to compete on the soccer team at the college, so far I've been having fun playing (minus getting blisters on my feet from my new cleats). I even scored a goal during a game! We've been mostly just playing games which was a bit disappointing as I hoped to practice some skills work as well but it's been fun and I've been learning a lot even if it's been pretty hot playing during the summer. I've also been keeping up with my strength training workouts since March and been continually adding more weight to my lifts. Food is always tough for me as I hate cooking and love delicious food but I've been making a lot of progress and have lost three pounds so far.

I can't wait for the new TV season! I've been watching some of the trailers for the new shows and have added a few shows that I'm going to check out this fall. While A to Z has a couple of annoying things about it, it also features the Mother from HIMYM and as soul destroying it is seeing her, the show looks really cute and right up my romantic loving alley with the whole matchmaking element. I'm also excited for How to Get Away With Murder as Viola Davis looks amazing in it, the premise sounds fun and deliciously messed up and I will always trust Shonda Rhimes to do crazy things. I'm also going to check out Utopia which fascinates me as I've always loved thinking about how to create the perfect society although the reality show format makes me keep my expectations down. I am also looking forward to checking out Survivor's Remorse which is about a BASKETBALL PLAYER (!!!) who becomes successful and must deal with everything that comes with it which sounds super fun for me to vicariously see that side of things and is produced by Lebron James (who I've come to not hate since he went back to Cleveland) so I'm very curious to check it out. I kind of wish I could watch The Flash because the lead actor is a guy I found SUPER hot on Glee (Sebastian!) but I've sworn off all superhero shows unless it features a female/PoC lead so I'll just be checking out Agent Carter. Mostly I'm going to be listening to friends and critics to see if there are any high quality shows I should check out. I'm really looking forward to The Mindy Project, Faking It and Scandal coming back especially the first two as they feature two of my favorite ships. I'm mostly planning on using the fall to continue to catch up with some well written shows I haven't watched yet including Deadwood which I MUST finish by the end of the year. On the movie side of things, this summer I LOVED Maleficent (Maleficent/Aurora all the way!), enjoyed X-Men: Days of Future Past and am looking forward to seeing The Hunger Games 3, The Hobbit 3 and Annie (love the trailer!). On the sports side of things, my new soccer team is Bayern Munich since they have my favorite player, Arjen Robben, lots of German players from the national team like Müller, Neuer and Götze and my fave USA guy, Julian Green (although he's on loan to Hamburg this year) so I already have an emotional investment in them and will be watching all their games. I'm casually following the English Premier League (mostly for my USA/Germany people) and some college football as well and will be checking out my usual NFL teams this fall (although I'm still super bitter there's no LA team) such as the Bills, 49ers, Giants, Chargers and Jets. We'll see timewise what happens as once NBA seasons starts in late October and Syracuse basketball in November, most of my attention will go to that because YAY BASKETBALL. Hockey will be back in October as well and I will check out some Chicago games sometimes.

Super excited for Festivids! I have about 6 possible nominations at the moment although I worry about qualification for a couple of them but I'm excited about them and the vid ideas I want to make already. Before I get my assignment though, I need to start working on my Escapade vid as that's going to require a time committment and I have another vid idea I want to make for next year that I need to get started on clipping right now to get it done in time for VVC. I have another vid that's almost done that I should hopefully post in the next week as well. I have a couple ideas that require me to stretch my skills that I'm really excited about even if it'll be a challenge, it should be fun to do. Other fun fandom-y things coming up is a bunch of NorCal (and elsewhere) fangirls are planning a Fandom Beach Vacation where we rent a beach house and just hang out all day and I'm so excited to hang out with my fandom friends in November :) I also need to plan out what to do for my birthday in October this year, I have an idea and need to check if it's realistic. I still can't believe I'm going to be 27...is that officially late 20s? Eek. But hopefully with all the plans I have in place, I'll be ready to enjoy this time in my life shortly!

Here are my vid review and challenge review notes from Vividcon 2014, apologies for the lateness. I was one of the mods for In Depth Vid Review so I wasn't able to take notes but you can find some notes here and here. I did my best at hearing and typing as accurately as I could but sometimes people had quiet voices or I couldn't type fast enough so these are not perfect transcriptions especially as they are not completely proofread. If you see something and want it corrected (or credit), feel free to let me know as I'd love for it to be more accurate.

So I am super behind on Vividcon related stuff but I am determined to get things done by next week so here are some Vividcon vid recs. There were SO many amazing vids this year in a million different fandoms and I encourage everyone to check out the masterlist here to see if there were any for sources and songs you may be interested in. These recs are just the ones that worked the most for me and my personal preferences heavily influence the list so even if I don't mention certain vids, it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them! But here are my favorites:

Fantasy by [livejournal.com profile] sisabet (The Mindy Project) - This was the FEELS vid of the con for me and I had to physically restrain myself during Premieres from squee and couldn't help all the happy tears from falling. This captures Mindy's struggle for the fantasy romantic relationship SO WELL and chooses the perfect clips to bring the emotions and structure of it is SO PERFECT and I LOVE IT SO MUCH I CANT EVEN TALK ABOUT JUST *FLAIL*

Immigrant Song by [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl (Vikings) - Out of all the vids at the con, this was the one that impressed me the most visually and left my jaw literally on the floor with the STUNNING ending section that blew my mind with the symbolism and effects and just go join me and watch this a million times. HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS VID!!!

A Single Man by [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 (A Single Man) - This movie was one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen and this vid does an AMAZING job at capturing that gorgeous beauty and the emotional journey of the story with beautiful color and parallels and feelings.

***Flawless by [livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic (Disney Princesses) - This is the Disney vid I ALWAYS wanted and never knew I needed which both celebrates and critiques Disney movies with amazing parallels and interesting commentary and wow, that ending.

Myxomatosis by [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl (Bates Motel) - This was an amazing distillation of everything Bates Motel was trying to do with amazing parallels with Psycho while being an intense character study of Norman and his relationship with Norma and how fucked up it is inside his mind portrayed visually so brilliantly.

Dance Alarm by [personal profile] thirdblindmouse (The Fast & the Furious series) - This vid is a beautiful kinetic motion showcase of all the things I love about the franchise: the cars, slash, badass women and nonstop action paired with one of my favorite songs.

Vitalum Vitalis by [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl and [livejournal.com profile] ohvienna (American Horror Story: Coven) - This is a stunning femslash vid that gave me lots of feelings without ever seeing the show and the use of imagery in this is simply gorgeous and intense.

Chasing Cars by [livejournal.com profile] sisabet (Due South) - BRB CRYING!!! This vid destroyed me emotionally during Challenge and even on rewatch, makes me cry so hard with its love for our pets and how much we lean on them when the world sucks and we need someone to love. DIEF!!! <3

Celebration by [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain (Multi) - This is a seamlessly edited vid of all the music videos featuring amazing female pop divas which is both sexy as fuck and a critique of the music industry in super great ways.

Work Bitch by [livejournal.com profile] rhoboat (Reign) - This vid is super pretty with some amazing effects and a certain work it section will never fail to make me laugh with the ridiculousness.

Warrior by [livejournal.com profile] findthesea (Marvel Cinematic Universe) - If you would have told me before the con that I'd be reccing a Marvel vid, I would have said no fucking way because I'm super sick of Marvel and superheroes at the moment. BUT this vid was able to convert me because it focuses on all the amazing women in MCU (who should IMO be the real heroes with actual storylines but I digress) and shows all the ways in which they're awesome.

I've had this vid idea for over two years and had planned to premiere this vid at Vividcon 2014 so I'm so happy I was able to successfully fulfill that goal. I first heard this song around May 2012 and was instantly blown away by the dynamic changes and how perfectly it fit Cersei and her relationship with Jaime. I knew we could get more of them in season four so I knew I had to wait til 2014 to finish the vid although it didn't stop me from vidding it before then. I was a bit intimidated as it was a more ambitious idea than I usually do but I was really excited to make it especially as my Cersei/Jaime feelings increased...and then The Scene happened in S4. I was furious and depressed and sad at how the Game of Thrones writers handled such an important scene for my favorite ship from the show and I could barely look at Jaime and was afraid I wouldn't be able to make the vid. Thankfully after a month or so, I was able to get enough distance to move on from it, pretend it didn't happen (mostly) and keep working on this vid. I mistook the Premieres deadline so I had to rush in the last two weeks to get this done but I was lucky enough to get some super useful Cersei/Jaime footage in the season finale so that helped me regain my feels again as well. It was a struggle working on the vid at times as I had the perfect idea in my head of what the vid would look like and it was hard to successfully bring that vision to life. But thanks in part to cheerleading from friends and the great last minute beta of [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl, I was able to get the vid to look close to what I saw in my head and was able to end up happy with it. I love talking about this vid and ship so feel free to ask questions or leave any comments about it :)

I originally had two Club Vivid ideas I was going to do but unfortunately ran out of time to make either but still wanted to make a Game of Thrones vid for Premieres. I heard this song and really wanted to vid the EDM sections to Arya and Brienne sword fighting so I decided to make this vid featuring them. They are two of my favorite characters on the show (Arya is my faaaave) and I knew it would be a lot of fun to vid them. I had to edit the song to get only my favorite parts of the source and song in it and it was super fun to find the parallels between Arya and Brienne when they were fighting so I could vid them together. Plus it allowed me to have a great reason to cosplay as Arya at Club Vivid :)

So I fell in love with Faking It at the perfect time when I was going through some hard fannish times and I was super happy to find a new ship that I loved. I really wanted to vid Amy/Karma and heard this song on a fanmix and felt compelled to vid it. I had promised [livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic that I would make a femslash premiere for her so I made this for her show, hoping to recruit people to watch the show (in case you're wondering, it's a fake relationship between two best friends where one girl falls in love with the other, eight 20 minute episodes so far). It was SO much fun to vid because they are super cute and I got to vid my favorite parts of the show which includes a lot of girlkissing ;)

So I've wanted to make an Adam/Blake vid for awhile to let out some of my MANY feelings about them but unfortunately clipping takes forever and I haven't had the time. I still wanted to make a vid for them for Escapade though so I decided to make a short vid for them by finding the best scenes using my clip notes. Unfortunately I haven't taken clip notes on all the episodes but I managed to find enough to make this vid in the week before the deadline. It was SO much fun to see all the cute clips of them while having soooo many feels. The hard part is that they're being cute in chairs most of the time which visually is kind of boring so I tried to split some of that monotony up with more visually interesting clips. I was hoping for it to be possibly a recruiter vid so I wanted to introduce them and how the show worked in the beginning and then bring out the many, many romantic and sexual things they do with each other. I definitely plan to make more vids with these two but making this helped a lot with releasing a few of my shippy feels until I can do that after Vividcon season.

All feedback (including concrit) is much appreciated. Enjoy!

Festivids have been revealed! You can check out the master list to see all the fandoms and vidder names. There was a TON of amazing vids and I made a big recs post in my head but haven't been in a posting mood lately. I was lucky enough to receive THREE wonderful vids that I love dearly. They are:

Spring Break Anthem (Arrested Development) made by [livejournal.com profile] lily_the_kid. This is an amazing GOB vid (and heavily GOB/Tony) that captures his character and their relationship so well. The editing is great and it's so much fun!

Friends (The Lion King!!!) made by [personal profile] jagwriter78. I never expected to get a Lion King vid so I was super stoked to get this and it's a wonderful, adorable vid full of hugs, friendship and love. I'm so glad I have a vid full of so many things I love about this movie that I can watch over and over!

Dutch (The Wire) made by [personal profile] chaila. A Stringer vid! My favorite character and this vid is a perfect encapsulation both the good and the bad with tight editing, perfect lyric matches and lots of feels!

Thank you to my wonderful festividders! They made my Festivid experience this year so awesome and extra happy :)

I had big plans this Festivids to make 15 vids, then 7 but I finally settled for four. I had the free time to make more but I struggled with not feeling emotionally attached or inspired with some of my vid ideas (and some minor tech issues) so I didn't end making as many as I hoped. My goal was four though so I'm very happy with that and they were all received as well or better than I expected so overall it was a great experience! I made three movie vids this year which was very different for me but the benefit is a LOT less clipping which I enjoyed. The vids I made were:

Final Round (Pariah - 2011): DW | LJ for [personal profile] livrelibre
Love, Save the Empty (Masters of Sex): DW | LJ for [personal profile] aphrodite_mine
All We Got (The Great Gatsby): DW | LJ for [personal profile] linguology
Get Me Bodied (The Fifth Element): DW | LJ for [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu

Thanks to everyone who commented on them already (hopefully I should reply soon) and I highly recommend checking out the vids! I am now working on clipping Game of Thrones (for most future vids) for Vividcon which is taking forever but will be worth it when I don't have to clip the same seasons over and over again in the future. I can't believe it's already time to start planning Vividcon vids (and panels/vidshows over at the community!) but registration is in a couple weeks so I'm excited to begin especially when I have so many ambitious ideas planned. Yay vidding!

So the backstory behind all the Beyonce was that Brad had mentioned he didn't know who Beyonce was and a bunch of his friends decided we should all make Brad Beyonce vids so he could hear some of her music ([personal profile] elipie will explain this better later). My problem was I had never seen any of Brad's sources but of all of them, The Fifth Element seemed the most likely to be of interest to me and the character seemed to be a good fit for Beyonce. So I saw The Fifth Element...and didn't like it. HOWEVER, I looooved Ruby as the character is basically made for me (confident, flamboyant and sexual? sign me up) so I was still excited to vid him. But then I had to find a song which proved more challenging than you'd expect. I went through all of Beyonce's music but none of my favorite songs seemed to work and I wasn't quite sold on Get Me Bodied at first. But then I realized it was perfect (I love that bridge) especially if I could cut it down right.

I was busy working on all my other Festivids and figured as a movie vid for a character with limited footage, I could vid this quickly the last week of Festivids before GoLive. Of course I waited til the last two days before GoLive and had to clip and vid very, very quickly. It was a LOT of fun though, especially the first section which was all my favorite scenes with Ruby combined in one short little package (one of the best parts of vidding). I was a little worried it might be a bit too slashy for Brad but COME ON, it was too obvious. This was the vid that I ended up staying up til 2 am finishing so that the credits for it is basically a representation of my state of mind at that point. I was really happy people liked it so much and I'm so glad I was able to vid one of my new favorites characters :)

All feedback (including concrit) is much appreciated. Enjoy!

This movie was near the top of the list of movies I wanted to vid for Festivids so I was super happy when I saw [personal profile] linguology had requested it. When I watched the movie in theaters, my favorite two parts were the beautiful visuals (seriously, it's ridiculous) and the perfect soundtrack so I really wanted to make a vid that combined them. I listened to the soundtrack a million times but my top two choices were Can't Stop and Young and Beautiful and neither captured everything I wanted to vid. Now the song I ultimately chose has special meaning to me as I listened to it a lot right before I went bar hopping/clubbing in Berlin and then by some coincidence, as I walked into the club that had one of my favorite life experiences ever, it was the first song playing. It was fate...anyways I figured out this was the perfect song for the vid I wanted to make even if it was a bit on the nose because it has the dancing sections I wanted while having plenty of great lyrics, slower sections and ultimate destruction to include all parts of the movie.

I started vidding it right after Christmas (I had clipped a week earlier) and when I actually focused on finishing it, it went pretty quickly. It was a lot of fun to vid faster than I normally did as well as play with all the gorgeous visuals. I did have some tech trouble encoding the vid which made the day before GoLive a lot more rushed than I had planned but I was glad to get it finished and submitted not to mention very happy with the great reception it received. I really wanted to make a 4 minute vid that I could watch to see all the beautiful images and music without having to sit through a long 2 hour+ movie and I'm relieved that I think I managed to pull it off :)

I wasn't planning on making this vid as I had about 10 vids that were above it in my Festivids making list. But I was having some trouble gathering up the motivation to make them and I really wanted to make a vid I was very emotionally connected to so I decided to say screw it and make a Lillian/Virginia vid which is my new favorite ship and who I LOVE SO MUCH! It was a couple weeks before GoLive when I decided to make it but I was able to quickly clip it and cut down the song to make a shorter vid. I had a different song in mind at first but after listening to my Potential Festivids Songs playlist, I found this one which was happier and shippier which was more what I wanted to do. It was a lot of fun to vid some of my favorite scenes with them including the one that got me to ship them in the first place. I was really glad I decided to make it and that [personal profile] aphrodite_mine was also a fan of them (yes I did some twitter checking to confirm this) so I could make a shippy vid that reminded me why I started vidding :)

So I saw this movie when it came out and was really impressed at how beautiful it was while telling a moving story about multiple queer characters. I really loved the main character's journey and I was excited to get a chance to vid her when I got matched with [personal profile] livrelibre. I really wanted to find a song by a black woman indie artist like she suggested and after initially thinking Final Round wasn't going to work, I realized it was the right song for what I wanted to show. It was also extra fun when I finally got a chance to meet [personal profile] livrelibre and had to keep my assignment vid secret AGAIN :) I initially tried to vid this in HD 1080p footage on my old laptop but my poor computer couldn't handle it so I figured it was time to buy a new computer and this was the first vid I vidded on my shiny new Macbook Pro. The process was relatively easy for an assignment as the structure wasn't too hard to figure out although working with movie source became a bit hard when I wish I had some more clips for the end. I finished this earlier than usual although a week or so is not saying much, I had most of it done by Christmas. I've been offering Pariah for awhile now and am glad I finally got a chance to vid it!

2013 Vidding Meme [Dec. 31st, 2013|12:17 pm]

Here's the end of the year vidding meme for 2013:

(Links can be found here: My Vids)

January:
Curiosity (Boy Meets World)
Give Me Everything (Parks and Recreation)
Beautiful in Los Angeles (The LA Complex)

February:
Circle of Life (Game of Thrones)

March:
Drumming (Homeland)

April:
I Love It (Glee)

May:
For the Girl Who Has Everything (Bunheads)
Pumped Up Kicks (Veronica Mars)
We Don't Care (The Wire)

June:
Scar Tissue (The OC)
Past the Feeling (Once Upon a Time)

October:
Make a New Dance Up (Orange is the New Black)

November:
Counting Stars (Game of Thrones)
Bandaid (Parks and Recreation)

Total Vids: 14! (my highest I think)

My favourite video this year (of my own):
Probably Give Me Everything because the end result matched up the most with what I saw in my head and it was so much fun to vid my favorite character and all her wonderful women friends. I also really love Counting Stars because I was able to vid my current most loved character in Jaime and I was able to express so many of my feelings with one of my favorite songs.

My least favourite video this year:
In general I liked all my vids this year but if I had to pick one probably For the Girl Who Has Everything where the song didn't work for me quite as much as when I first heard it and I wasn't quite as in love with the characters as I was with my other vids (plus the show is a bit hard to vid).

Most successful video
I was really happy that Give Me Everything got so much Festivids love. Glad to see so much Parks and Recreation love out there! I was also pleased that people liked Past the Feeling at Vividcon.

Video most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
I can't really complain about any of the feedback I got but I suppose the Bunheads and The Wire vids got the least in part because of the small fandom status.

Most fun video:
I had fun making a lot of my vids (especially Circle of Life, Make a New Dance Up and Counting Stars) but overall I'll give it to Bandaid because it was filled with so much cute girls in love and a relatively easy process. What I've learned this year is I most love vidding my favorite characters and ships with a deep emotional connection.

Video with single sexiest moment:
A tie between Beautiful in Los Angeles and Make a New Dance Up with the taking off clothes and kissing :) Mmmm I love it!

Biggest vid fail:
Not starting the OC clipping in May which made June a hellish process of clipping and vidding all the time. In general, leaving vids halfway finished and then scrambling to make deadlines. There was also a few vids I wanted to make that I never did.

Hardest video to make:
Past the Feeling was different than I usually did and I definitely struggled with trying something new. But it turned out pretty well so I'm glad about that.

Most unintentionally telling video:
I don't know about unintentional but Counting Stars contained a lot of myself in it.

For 2013:
I still have a ton of Festivids to make and I have no idea how many I'm going to finish with my other goals for the new year. I want to make an Adam/Blake vid preferably for Escapade but clipping is tough for that so we'll see. I have a TON of Game of Throne vids I want to make for Vividcon and before so we'll see how many of those I'll get done. I have a couple big vids I'd like to make but I'm unsure about time so we'll see. There's a couple new techniques and skills I want to add to my toolbox so I'm hoping to continue to push myself while still giving myself plenty of room to make fun vids about my favorite ships.

So two years ago, I offered to make [livejournal.com profile] dollsome a vid for a birthday gift since she is awesome and has written so much amazing fic I've loved. She gave me this adorable song for Leslie/Ann and I was excited to vid their super cute relationship. I started clipping but ultimately got distracted by Festivids as you do. Finally I decided to get this vid done a couple months ago and was helped by my clipping for Give Me Everything. This was a lot of fun to make as they are ridiculously cute and adorable :)

So I first heard this song last April and fell in love with it and at some point, it struck me as the perfect song for Jaime. While reading the books a year and a half ago, I fell in love with him and after the last season, my Jaime feels have gone to ridiculous levels so I knew I had to vid this song to get them out. What I love about the song was that it allowed me to show Jaime's idealism and belief in honor and love (my favorite parts of his character) while also showing the more cynical parts of his life and how he's been changed through the horrible things he's experienced and seen. Unfortunately I don't have the early footage of Jaime I need to make some of his story obvious but I tried my best to show that which hopefully comes through at least to people who know his background. I vidded most of this after Vividcon and it was so much fun to vid something I love so much including my two OTPs, Jaime/Cersei and Jaime/Brienne. I had hoped to post it before I left for Europe but procrastinated a bit too much and then didn't get enough vidding done while I was there. But I'm really happy with it now and am happy I finally got a chance to make a vid for one of my favorite characters who I identify with a LOT.

Dear Festividder,

Thank you for making me a vid in one of my favorite small fandoms! Festivids is one of my favorite things ever and I will be super happy with whatever you decide to make. I'm open to any kind of music no matter how indie or mainstream, angsty or bouncy, romantic or mellow although I do love big dynamic type songs. I love all kinds of vids: character studies, ship vids, gen ensemble vids, meta vids, ALL THE FEELS vids, special effects, I could go on an on. I really just want more vids for any of these fandoms and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Happy October everyone! As I posted on Twitter, I'm really excited about this month because it's my birthday month and I have some super fun stuff planned in store. This coming weekend, I'm going to see Gravity with a friend of mine after we do some hiking and on Sunday I'm going to see Maroon 5 (and Kelly Clarkson) in concert!! Soooo excited as I've fallen in love with Adam Levine after watching him being a hilarious, competitive, adorable dork on The Voice who can't stop flirting and being in love with Blake Shelton. HAVE I MENTIONED THEY ARE SUCH BOYFRIENDS??? Who say things like, "I would never cheat on you Blake?" THAT IS A THING THAT HAPPENED.

Ahem. I'm getting ahead of myself. The weekend after that or rather, pre-weekend on October 9th in the evening I'm driving to Las Vegas to go to Wincon! I'm going to be rooming with some awesome SF people and I'm looking forward to seeing [personal profile] nikibee again along with [personal profile] cee_m and many others! October 11 (friday) is my birthday and there will be fannish panels, hanging out with fannish people, a VIDSHOW (of which I have two vids, one premiering), Once More with Feeling and Rocky Horror Show screenings and hopefully a drunken birthday party full of fangirls. I'm sooooo excited! Plus I'm totally going to ride that roller coaster I saw last time. I am going to be going back early Sunday morning but that's because I have tickets to see the Blind Auditions (ie Adam/Blake FLIRTING NONSTOP) of The Voice with [personal profile] elipie! I can't wait!! Other fun things I'm planning on doing is getting a tattoo on my right ankle. It's my first tattoo as I've wanted one for a long time but could never justify the expense. It's going to be Nala from The Lion King like in my main icon. I figure I've been a fangirl of it for 21 years, I think it's a forever thing plus I've always felt my spirit animal, what I've been in another life, etc is a lioness so it's really important to me. The biggest thing for me is I'm going to go skydiving! It's always been in the top 3 things I want to do in my life since I love flying and want to feel like I am if only briefly. Will probably save it towards the end of the month.

A month ago I had an amazing time Labor Day Weekend getting to hang out with [personal profile] nikibee in the Bay Area. We watched Game of Thrones, Teen Wolf and Parks and Recreation and had a vidparty where we watched Vividcon vids with [personal profile] franzeska (who I had a great talk with!), Alice, Michelle, Dani and I think that's all? It was so much fun! We (Nicole, Alice and Michelle) also went to Oakland Pride and got to see En Vogue in concert and it was so great to get a chance to have some good talks with [personal profile] nikibee all weekend. I also went back to San Francisco near where I used to live and work and got to have lunch with someone from Dev Bootcamp which I also visited and got to talk to the founder who changed my life with letting me go to it. Unfortunately I left my favorite hoodie there and haven't been able to get it back :( I also visited the Berkeley campus which is SO BEAUTIFUL! Probably the prettiest one I've ever seen, it's like half nature reserve. Finally I went to a Haven party [personal profile] franzeska (who else? ;)) was throwing and got to say goodbye for a couple hours before I had to leave to catch my flight. Gotta say Southwest was awesome, they gave me a better seat when I complained I didn't know I had to check in for the return flight. It was a super fun weekend and I'm so glad I went!

Other than that, I've been working a lot. We had a big deadline a few weeks ago before our company presented a website at a conference. Some of the weeks I worked on interesting things and that was fun especially getting to pair with my mentor here but a couple weeks I didn't like what I was working on and kept getting distracted by the internetz at work which was less fun. We did go bowling last week as the conference went awesome and that was really fun! I've also been running more and I paid for a personal trainer so I can actually get a REAL strength training workout and that has helped a LOT with developing some muscles. I've always wanted to do chinups so that's my long term goal. I've been thinking about running a marathon next year as I need a big running goal to get me inspired to run more and I want to beat my last time (5.5 hours) and hopefully have a rain free experience. I've been eating a lot cleaner lately and did lose a little weight but got a little bored with it and regressed last week. No worries though, I varied my diet up and am doing better now. If there's anything I learned in the past it's not to give up and let little backslides trip you up.

The big news is I've decided to quit my job soon and go back to college to finally finish my degree. It's something I've always wanted to do and I've had enough of a taste of the real world working on something I kind of like but not love (even with the nice money benefits!) to want to go back to school and work on finding what I really want to do with my life. I'm going to continue study programming on my own and help code for the AO3 along with working on personal projects I'm hoping will lead to possible job opportunities or at least direction. I'm going to go back to community college for Spring 2014 and I'll be applying in the next two months to UCLA, CSULA and CSULB as a Philosophy major. Yes, Philosophy because I've loved the courses I've taken in it, I've always wanted to learn it and it requires a very low amount of credits so I can graduate fast as I'm aiming for May/June 2015. I'm also planning on volunteering at College Track during the time and maybe seeing if after I graduate I can get a job there or at a similar organization. Or maybe I'll do another programming job to save money/pay off debts, I don't know, we'll see.

Let's see...a couple weeks ago, [personal profile] elipie came over to watch vids, vid and talk with [personal profile] jetpack_monkey and I and it was a lot of fun! I've been trying to go to more meetups lately to meet new people and feel less lonely and so I went to a happy hour and met some cool people DTLA and also went to a hiking group last Saturday where I had some good talks with a couple people. The weekend before that I went hiking with my friend, Jen who has turned out to be one of my closest friends in LA even though she's a bit older than me. She used to be in a rock band but now is learning to program so we hang out a good amount to do that. But we hiked in Griffith Park and had a really long talk about life, fun things in our history and the future which was really great.

I've been missing my mom a lot lately. I didn't fully appreciate that when I felt lonely and couldn't reach any of my friends to talk, I could always call my mom and know she'd be there for me. It's just tough sometimes and earlier in the month I was feeling really lonely. I think of her every day whether in small moments or longer memories and it just hurts a lot. I just really wish she was back again :( Last Sunday was the three month anniversary of her death and it feels so far away and yet so close like I can vividly remember getting the call that she had died. I called my dad the other day and it was good to talk to him and hear he's doing well especially after my brother freaked me out saying he couldn't get a hold of him. I'm still terrified he's going to die, I just heard that statistically spouses are more likely to die after one of them dies so even with my dad's health issues, it's even scarier. I'm really looking forward to going back to see him for the holidays and my cousin and aunt as well, both who've been there for me a lot. I went to a meetup last Saturday with a group that's about women who've lost their mothers and it was really helpful talking to other people like me there. Someone said that the worst part is even if you have other people who help fill the hole your mother left, it's not the same as having MY mother there, she's mine and no one is mine in that way. And that's totally how I feel. It was helpful though and we got to smash plates and mugs to help let out the anger :)

On a happier note, I'm so happy fall TV season in back! I'm watching sooo many shows right now, omg. Monday I have How I Met Your Mother (ahhh THE MOTHER, brb happy crying), The Voice (Adam/Blake are SUCH BOYFRIENDS who flirt constantly, yay Christina and CeeLo being back and I love so many of the contestants already), The Blacklist (reminds me of Alias with Sydney and Jack (and Irina)) and I'm watching Mom purely out of love for Allison Janney who is a goddess. Tuesday I'm giving Agents of Shield a couple more episodes before I give up as I didn't like the characters (minus Coulson) and the plot, Brooklyn 9-9 (I really like it! it's funny and GREAT characters), New Girl (close to letting this one go again), The Minday Project (still sadly only love Mindy) and The Voice again (Blake is not doing an all country team again yay!!). Wednesday is Modern Family (yay gay marriage!) and I'm going to give Super Fun Night a try. Thursday is The Big Bang Theory (still sometimes funny, I love Sheldon but my god the gender issues), OUAT in Wonderland (going to give it a try), Glee (KURT/BLAINE DYING FROM LOVE AND SQUEEEE) and Parks and Recreation (still perfect and still LESLIE IS THE BEST). Sunday is Downton Abbey (I need to catch up actually), Once Upon a Time (MORE SWAN QUEEN, less boys pleeease) and Homeland (didn't really like 301 although I LOVE Carrie still). Lucky 7 is getting cancelled soon but I enjoyed the premise and focus on working class families so I'll continue watching. I didn't like Sleepy Hollow at all so I cut that. Any other good shiows I should watch? I'm currently catching up on Scandal (OLIVIA IS SO AWESOME and I love the addicting plots), Spartacus (deserves its own post but AWESOME!!!) and Twin Peaks (so pretty and I enjoy the plot).

On a happy/sad note, Breaking Bad is over :( But it went out on top! I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Hollywood Cemetery to see the Breaking Bad series finale live with the cast and creators of the show. I went early to get good seats and spent the day reading books (including Clash of Kings! still working on my reread) with blankets and my pillow until [personal profile] elipie showed up and we got to go in. We got good seats near the center but further back because there was a big VIP section for all the industry people who showed up. I went to checkout the RV where Walt and Jesse cooked their first meth and people were getting pictures with it and then AARON PAUL showed up and I quickly got in line but then he left but right near me so I was like 6 ft away from me. I got a picture in the RV though and it was so cool! We saw the Pilot of Breaking Bad (introduced by Aaron Paul being amazing) and then saw the Finale which was AWESOME!!! I'm so happy and fully satisfied with it. Sooo much better than The Sopranos and many other shows that can't stick the ending. I'm looking forward to doing a rewatch of the whole show and hopefully making some vids to it because it still needs ALL THE VIDS!! I read Sepinwall's review like my usual tradition (he helped me get into the show) but not reading any more because I'm sick of the negative stuff. I really loved seeing the cast Q&A after the finale, it was great to see it in person.

I've been working on a Game of Thrones vid that I'm really excited about so I'm looking forward to posting that sometime this month. I need to clear these vids off my plate because Festivids is starting!! I nominated some things and I have some requests but mainly I'm excited about making vids for people because I'll have more time than last year without the OUAT exchange. I already have 7 vids I want to make and I'm really excited to get my assignment and start. Last year was amazing and I'm hoping to have a wonderful experience this year as well.

Oh and I'm going to Europe next month! I can barely think about it, it makes me too excited and happy. Some background: I've been dying to go to Europe since like 2005? Since college started definitely especially London and Paris. It's something I want to do before I die and I've had to cancel every plan I've had to do it because of money but now that's no longer an issue! So Thanksgiving week I'm going to go to London, Paris, Munich (to visit [profile] infiniterain!!!) and Belgium (to visit [personal profile] indybaggins!) and I'm sooo excited to see some of the touristy stuff I've never seen in person. If you're in the area, let me know as I'd love to hang out! It's going to be an epic adventure I'm sure.

Wow that was long. This is what happens when I don't post for a month. I love that people are posting more to DW/LJ and am going to try to do the same, weekly is a good goal for me. I'm gonna see Laura Veirs with [personal profile] beerbad tonight which I'm excited about! A great start to my October :)

[Current Music |Vividcon vids]

So I wrote up some vid recs this year. Most of the vids this year were well done but not all of them connected with me personally so I limited myself to just the vids I truly love and will be watching over and over. Obviously those were affected by fandom and song choice but they're all amazing vids that I highly recommend. Here they are:

Run Boy Run (Game of Thrones) by [personal profile] hollywoodgrrl:
THIS VID IS PERFECT! I don't know if I've ever been blown away by a Premieres vid as much as this one and I still am completely in awe of it. There is SO much depth here and even if you haven't seen Game of Thrones, the editing is SO FUCKING AWESOME that it's still worth seeing multiple times. This fandom really needed a vid showing what the women must deal with in Westeros and how they live with it and this vid has filled that void for me. Just watch it and leave her ALL the feedback because this vid deserves it alllll. Have I mentioned it's my FAVORITE? <3

Smells Like Westeros Spirit (Game of Thrones) by [personal profile] hollywoodgrrl:
I LOVE THIS VID SO MUCH! There are so many great parallels within the houses and and the bridge is so epically gorgeous I can't even. She took one of my favorite songs and made it fit incredibly well with such great motion and structure. And the ending shots are OMG PERFECT!

Retrograde (Beasts of the Southern Wild) by [profile] sockkpuppett:
I saw this vid both before I saw the movie and after I saw this movie and both times it blew me away and made me cry. It's so beautifully constructed and the song choice fit the source incredibly well especially the gorgeous use of setting.

Sleeping Ute (Life of Pi) by [personal profile] absolutedestiny:
This vid completely broke me in all the best ways. SO PRETTY it hurts and there is a TIGER which is my favorite part. The end is structured so beautifully and just hits it out of the park.

The Evil Queen (Ms. Mills If You're Nasty) (Once Upon a Time) by [profile] foomatic:
This was my favorite non Game of Thrones Club Vivid vid and captured all my Regina is the sexiest HBIC EVER!!1! feels. I loved the use of the Evil Queen and the Regina/Emma footage that really brought across the dominatrix!Regina theme. I had SO much fun dancing to this at CVV!

Age Like Wine (Multi) by [personal profile] absolutedestiny:
So much nostalgia!! This vid covers so much of my vidding life and has a lot of personal meaning to me. It says so much about dealing with change and continuing our creative outlets even as we get older. Vidding fandom vid FTW!

The Polka Slayer (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) by [personal profile] bradcpu and [personal profile] milly:
Buffy!! This was the perfect encapsulation of the show with so much love and hilarity at every new song inside a great polka medley. There are so many callbacks to vids and fandom and it makes me miss this show so much.

Mineshaft (Game of Thrones) by [personal profile] milly:
I was SO happy to see a Ros vid, a character that does not get treated well by canon and I loved how this vid did a great job to show her story while showing her connections to other characters. The lyrical matches are just so awesome, I definitely need to watch this vid more to pick up on everything!

Our House (Little Miss Sunshine) by [personal profile] mresundance:
This movie is my favorite and this vid captured so well the family aspect that I love about it. The build of it is absolutely fantastic and I have so many emotions at it that the vid taps into beautifully.

Ghosts That We Knew (Merlin) by [personal profile] trelkez:
I thought all my Merlin feels were gone but this vid brought them all back and more! So beautifully made, I love the structure of it and the beautiful use of flashbacks and facial expressions.

Scream (Doctor Who) by [personal profile] kass and [personal profile] laurashapiro:
I thought this was a fun Doctor Who vid when I watched it at Club Vivid but upon closer watch, it's an awesome look at how creepy the Doctor can be. It's hard for me to enjoy 11 era vids but I really loved this vid and it does a fantastic job of getting it's message across.

Devil Wouldn't Recognize You (Elementary) by [personal profile] obsessive24:
This vid may actually get me to watch some more Elementary which is quite a feat. Super beautiful editing that just moves and I'm completely intrigued by the plot. The effects work is freaking gorgeous and completely fits with the song.

Too Late Baby (Once Upon a Time) by [profile] braver_creature:
Rumple feels! This is an awesome character study of Rumpelstiltskin and all the messed up things he's done even as he (sometimes) tries to be a better person and reconnect with people he loves. The bridge is particularly amazing, I love how it moves and sounds like the music, super cool.

There are so many other great vids and I highly recommend checking out this list of all the vidshows and links to the vids to see if there are any vids you might want to check out.

Vividcon this year was AWESOME. I decided to spend my evening tonight capturing all my favorite memories from it. My memory is not super great so I'm sorry if I forgot anything and please let me know if I got anything wrong. Also I used LJ identies here for the most part so I didn't have to spend more time editing posts on each journal, let me know if you want it to be DW instead. Here goes...

Vividcon 2013 Con Report )

So that was my con. There was a LOT of amazing moments, many I've probably forgotten and I wish I could remember everyone I got a chance to have a great time with. I was really happy that people liked my vids and I loved so many of the vids that premiered. In the end, my favorite part of Vividcon is the people and everyone was SUPER nice and awesome. I feel so happy, rejuvenated and full of love for everything right now and I want to continue that feeling and leave ALL the comments. Not to mention, make ALL the vids and be more a part of the community, including posting to DW/LJ. Vividcon truly is my favorite con and as always, the highlight of my year. Til next year...

So Nicky was an awesome person to buy me who gave me a list of vids to make and I told her all the ones I'd like to do. This was the one she wanted out of the ones I liked and I was very excited to make it as I was hoping to have a chance to rewatch a show I hadn't seen before and I saw The OC when I was in high school before I came to live in the OC and LA so I caught a lot more references this time. I fell in love with Ryan and Ryan/Seth all over again and remembered why I used to ship them so hard. It gave me a chance to read some fic for them too! I loved the song choice for this as it was fun to vid Ryan's EPIC MANPAIN. It was good to vid different aspects of his character and storyline as well as the slash although rewatching four seasons took forever as I started way too late. The vidding process was fairly easy thank god as it was mostly linearly vidded and I was able to come up with the structure pretty fast. While the later seasons weren't as good, man that finale made me cry and it was great to vid it. I was very happy with Nicky's response to the vid and was happy to make a few changes for her that made the vid better. I'm glad I had such a good time (for the most part) for my first VVC auction vid!

So this vid was about 90% made in August and September 2010 after I came home from Vividcon and was super inspired to vid. The song was obviously the kids for me and I looove Kanye so I was excited to get a chance to vid him and a rap song. Making this vid was one of the most emotional vid processes ever as I rewatched S4, cried a lot and then clipped S4, cried a lot and then laid clips down and cried some more. That season and plotline was my favorite and I wanted to show the failure of the institutions and people to save them no matter how they tried as that was the most frustrating part of it all. Both [personal profile] killabeez and [personal profile] elynross were kind enough to give me some beta for the vid but they suggested some changing to the ending which was hard to hear for me since I had the vision of the vid for awhile. I took a break from the vid and eventually got distracted by Festivids and then lost all my Wire files. In any case, I still had the project file and when my other Challenge ideas didn't work out and I had limited time, I figured this would be a good vid for many of the themes with my first being Fuck You, then IDIC and Transformation. I replaced some clips from earlier seasons and filled in a few black spots and was able to get this vid in for Challenge. I'm mostly happy with it although it's weird having made most of it awhile ago. I'm just glad to finally have finished it and have released my first (emphasis on first) Wire vid!

So this is the vid I started after I fell in love with Regina/Emma and OUAT back in September 2012. I heard this song and thought it was beautiful and the lyrics fit Regina so much. Even though the song is less emotional than my usual choice, I was excited to get a chance to focus more on aesthetics and work on fading clips together more like [personal profile] bradcpu does which I've wanted to do for awhile. I set down some clips in the fall and had fun vidding it without a deadline. Of course then the OUAT exchange and Festivids happened so I stopped working on it and then OUAT annoyed me and took away my precious Swan Queen and I was not feeling like finishing it. But the S2 finale was super, super shippy for them and re-energized me so when my Premieres idea didn't work out and I ended up having less time than I expected, I thought finishing this would be a great vid to submit for Premieres. I didn't have as much time as I hoped as I spent most of it on my Auction vid but I'm glad I got to practice a different style than my usual and I'm really happy with some of the things I did in this. I still would like to get a good beta and improve the vid but not sure when/if that will happen.

So this is a long delayed auction vid I made for [personal profile] saeva who has been super patient with me as I struggled with clipping her former idea for me (which I'm still going to do cause it's awesome!) and then gave me this awesome idea instead for Veronica Mars which I've wanted to vid for years. Veronica Mars S1 is one of my favorite seasons of television and I've watched it so many times and yet it never gets old. I had a lot of fun rewatching while clipping this and falling in love with Veronica all over again, my former favorite female character ever. I've wanted to vid something like this before and I was super stoked to hear this awesome remix as in there are some different lyrics than the original. I had meant to post the lyrics that I wrote down myself but I can't find it on my computer so it'll have to wait til later. Anyways the vid basically vidded itself and it was great fun to make it. I was happy to hear the Wiscon theme of gender and technology as I thought this vid would fit very well. I'm glad I finally finished it!

Well it's been a long time coming for this one. Basically in the days before Vividcon 2012 I marathoned Homeland in a day and fell in love with it. In the airport going to Vividcon, I heard this song and instantly realized it was the Carrie vidsong I was waiting for. The song is one of my favorite songs from Florence for the emotion and dynamics within it and I connected with it physically for how perfect it was for Carrie. I was so inspired, I started vidding the middle section during Vividcon. When Homeland S2 came back, it inspired me to keep vidding the song but I got sidetracked by my Swan Queen love and then Festivids. I started working on it again after Festivids but didn't end up finishing until before the VidUKon deadline. It was really great to work with a song with so much speed changes and get to vid something a little different from what I usually do. Especially fun is it's for one of my favorite characters ever, I had so much fun falling in love with Carrie all over again with this video.

So this was all made because I was in love with this show and at the same time as I was, freaking Glee played an 'N Sync song (well mashup) which made me listen to 'N Sync's first album which led me to find this song which was a perfect match for Michelle/Sasha. I really love their relationship on the show and although it's mostly gen for me, they certainly flirt enough that I can take it to a more femslashy place so go with whatever you like here. I vidded this in a week or two, mainly because I wanted to have a vid to show [livejournal.com profile] beerbad who helped convince me to catch up on this show. It reminded me that sometimes it's fun to just let go of deadlines and vid out your heart.

So I'm offering myself up for the Vividcon Auction this year, for the first time ever. Because I'm crazy, I'm offering up a LOT of fandoms including a ton of TV. The full list is under the cut:

Full list of fandoms and what exactly I'm offering )

You can bid on me here. The auction closes on 3/30/13 at 11:59PM Eastern Time but don't wait to the very last second as the server may not be able to handle it. I am looking forward to vidding something from this list! If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask me. I basically just want to vid a fandom I like so I'm open to a lot. There's 5 other amazing vidders on that list too so if I'm not offering something you want, check out the others as they might offer it!

Besides that, just kind of tired of life beating me down right now. I wish I could fast forward to the time when I have a job I like and hopefully am in a relationship. I love Lost Girl a LOT but sometimes it's just hard watching Bo/Lauren when I want that so much.

[Current Music |"22" by Taylor Swift]

So I finally have time and the inclination to post here about some of the things I've been up to. The time thing is mostly because I'm not working at my job anymore. It wasn't working out on either end and I'm really looking forward to finding an in person, salaried job at a good company that can actually pay me decently. I was really overwhelmed at first in terms of looking for a job and sometimes still am but I'm feeling better about it now. It seems that the last year of networking I've been doing in the LA tech scene is starting to pay off as I now have a lot of people I can reach out for help and who have offered to help. There's a job I reeeeally want and I'm kind of terrified of being rejected from it but I'm getting better at feeling like if it doesn't happen, it'll all work out along a different great path. And happy coincidences like a job fair this weekend is extra awesome. I am ever so grateful to be in a field where there's high demand for my skills, it makes it a lot less stressful than it would for me.

Last weekend was a lot of fun! I went to Once Upon a Time Paley Fest with [personal profile] elipie and [personal profile] rhoboat and it turned my feelings of the show to mostly anger to full of FEELS! I still have major issues with what the show is doing (not enough gay, stupid blood > adoption family stuff, Regina's misery as a plot devise) but at a certain point I can let go of expectations and just enjoy the things I love mostly REGINA omg how does Lana Parilla exist? She's hot onscreen but in person she is an absolute goddess not to mention hilarious, adorable and kind. Of course we sat behind some of the most dedicated fans of Lana and Regina so it was good for me to have other people to cheer with and Lana kept LOOKING at us and giving smiles of encouragement and the Evil Regal sign and I seriously felt like I was going to melt with squee. At the end, I managed to crawl over the seats to get close enough to Lana to get her autograph and try to shout things up at her. I hope in the future to get another chance to actually talk to her. I got pretty close to JMo but she left so I talked with Jane Espenson and put in my plug for an actual gay fairytale couple on the show (and happiness for Regina). We'll see what happens...I also connected with one of the fans in front of me in the hope of finding in person Swan Queen fans and a couple of her friends were! So that's encouraging to not feel so alone in it.

Job hunting does make it hard to find time to vid so that's a problem as there's like 5 vids I'm trying to get done in the next two months. One of them is an epic Game of Thrones vid that's gotten me headfirst back into Game of Thrones love, just in time for S3 coming in 23 days eeee! I'm just worried about getting it finished along with two other vids before the April Vividcon deadline. I've also volunteered for Vividcon auction with an insane amount of fandoms so I'm looking forward to doing that for the first time. Reeeally can't wait to go to VVC! There's nothing like hanging out with vidfans. I did go to Escapade a couple weeks ago and that was wonderful! I met some awesome new people as well as got a chance to talk to friends from past years. The vidshow and vid panels and vid review were all wonderful as well and gave me a small taste of Vividcon.

On a dream come true note, I'm so happy about the news that Whose Line is coming back with the original cast! RYAN AND COLIN TOGETHER ON MY SCREEN AGAIN! This show seriously saved me from senioritis back in high school in 2006 and I've wanted a revival to happen for the last 7 years. It's my biggest RPF ship and getting new Ryan/Colin slash with the original games will be wonderful. I've also been loving Parks & Recreation which has been wonderful the last few episodes (except for the Ann plot ughh don't get me started). Unfortunately Glee has been frustrating me more and more with the bad song choices, plots I don't like and not getting me to a emotional place like it used to do. I knew my love for the show wouldn't last forever but it's still disappointing. At least it's no less gay and I'm still loooving Kurt/Blaine, Santana/Britney, Kurt/Adam and Santana/Quinn not to mention Unique <3 The Big Bang Theory has been funnier lately but it's been driving me CRAZY with the increased amounts of sexism. I'm so glad they added more female geek characters but it doesn't make up for that. On the new shows front, I have been convinced by [personal profile] beerbad to keep watching Bunheads which has gotten a lot better over the last few episodes and feels more like Gilmore Girls now along with Parenthood which I'm starting to like a lot more after the first few episodes.

Happy International Women's Day! I went to a Women in Engineering event last night and it was so much fun to be surrounded by women mostly involved in computer science all together. I had drinks with a group of women trying to help other women learn Ruby/Ruby on Rails and it was great to feel like part of a community that's trying to help solve a frustrating lack of diversity problem. It's a slow process but hopefully it can only get better from here. And I'm so thankful to be in fandom surrounded by so many amazing women (and awesome guys) all supporting each other and being creative. I am ever so thankful I found this wonderful place :)

So back in July last year, I somehow got it into my head to set Disney songs to Game of Thrones. To my shock...they totally fit most of the time. After thinking up lots of songs and getting vid ideas to the show, I somehow decided it would be a good idea to just vid them all. Because I love my serious Game of Thrones vids but sometimes I just want to make some fun vids for my show. So I started vidding Circle of Life as an overview of the beginning of the show and while watching Disney movies in preparation, I realized the opening Circle of Life scene has SO MANY similarities to the show which made it extra fun. Of course because I'm in love with the show, I still take it pretty sincerely in a, my heart is full of love for all of them way, but I understand a laughing reaction as well. I vidded most of this during the summer and a little during the fall and it was 90% done around there so when Festivids took over my life, I decided it would be my Escapade premiere. Plus I really wanted to see all the pretty landscape shots on the big screen so I was looking forward to that. I intend to make this a Disney set to Game of Thrones series which I call, You Win or You Sing but it'll take me 10+ years while waiting for all the footage.

[xpost |http://anoel.livejournal.com/147662.html]

So today is Festivids Reveals Day! I can FINALLY STOP LYING and tell everyone the vids I made. This year I made the following vids:

Curiosity: Boy Meets World, Topanga, Topanga/Cory for [livejournal.com profile] elipie (new longer version now available)
Give Me Everything: Parks and Recreation, Leslie and Lady Friends for [personal profile] laurashapiro.
Beautiful in Los Angeles: The LA Complex, Kaldrick for [personal profile] jarrow

Yeah, I watched 7 seasons of Boy Meets World for [livejournal.com profile] elipie and had to keep it secret for months! It was haaaard. I have a NEW version of my Boy Meets World vid, Curiosity up at the link that actually features all seven seasons of Topanga and not just the first threee seasons that were in the GoLive version. Both versions are available for download at the link. Turns out it is hard to keep secrets from someone you vid with and I didn't tell anyone but my roommates in order to make sure no one else had to keep a secret as well.

I also had a lot of fun (tech problems aside) making my Women of Parks and Recreation vid featuring my favorite character of all time (recently crowned), Leslie Knope. It basically gave me a chance to vid ALL THE WOMEN on the show and show how much I love the way Leslie loves her lady friends. It was hard to keep from making the five other Leslie Knope vids I wanted to make showcasing different parts of her personality though (Leslie/Waffles OTP!). The vid is totally my happy place, watching so many things I love about the show. I was very overwhelmed and happy by the reaction to this vid, thank you to everyone for the comments and recs!

In the last two weeks before GoLive, I made an LA Complex vid which I was sure everyone would guess because it's called BEAUTIFUL IN LOS ANGELES and features things very relevant to my interests. But only [personal profile] par_avion got it in chat so at least I wasn't completely obvious. Vidding those LA shots were SO much fun!

A big huge thanks to [personal profile] alba17 who made my Homeland vid, Breathing Underwater!!

This Festivids was probably my favorite in terms of vidding and hanging out with RL vid friends, making vids I love for people I care about and sources I love, hanging out in vid chat through deadlines and golive/reveals, getting a great vid for a source I love and the positive reaction I received for my vids. Festivids is just such an amazing idea and event and I am SO thankful for everyone involved. Highlight of the year!

So I did say I was going to do this and I meant it. First time I'm doing this meme! Hopefully it'll be annual after this.

End of the Year Vidding Meme 2012 )

Last Saturday was Festivids Go Live! I got a Homeland vid!!! Breathing Underwater is a S1 vid about Carrie and Brody, their similarities and issues and journey together. It gave me SO MANY FEELS and the song choice is just perfect for exploring their emotional struggles together. I loved the use of POVs and the kinetic energy throughout. It made my Festivids so amazing to get such a great vid :D

I'll have a recs list at some point but for now here's my favorite vid besides my own that blew me away: Smoke and Mirrors. It's a Mad Men vid that explores so many of the deeper themes of the show and is just brilliant in the deeper things it says. The song choice is perfect, it gives me ALL THE FEELS and it's just the vid I wish I could make. When I'm clapping and cheering and HOLY SHITTING at the end of it, you know you've won me over.

If you haven't seen any of the Festivids (or just a few), be sure to check out the masterlist and see and comment on all the vids! There's over 100 small fandoms represented there and the vids are awesome!

When I got assigned to fictorium, I was super excited because she wrote one of my favorite Swan Queen fics, Halfway Through the Wood which is based off the Awake TV show. I had been thinking of trying to make a fic trailer for it and this was the perfect oppurtunity to do it. I had never done a trailer before so I looked into some fanmade ones to get a better idea of how to do it. Turns out they're HARD especially when you're not using source audio. It was a lot of fun though to try to recreate some of the scenes and storyline. I don't know how successful I was but it was a fun experiment. And if you haven't read the fic, you SHOULD. It's here.

So I really wanted to make a Kaldrick vid and [personal profile] jarrow really wanted a Kaldrick vid so this was the perfect Festivids fit. Except I needed to find a song. I wanted to find a hip hop song or a Frank Ocean mashup to a hip hop song but I couldn't find anything. So I was listening to some music on my iPhone when I heard Beautiful in LA which I immediately pegged as a LA Complex vidsong. Upon repeated listening, I realized it actually fit perfectly for Kaldrick even if the music wasn't quite *him*. I put off listening to the song once I got my assignment because I wanted to vid it so much but after golive and vidchat, I was inspired and started working on making it as a treat even if I was unsure about time. Thankfully it vidded itself and most of it was done in vidfarr. It was SO much fun to vid the LA shots (which combined with the song seemed a dead giveaway guesswise) Kaaaaldrick and his feeelings.

So I was watching the Grease episode of Glee and then they come to this song which is my favorite and I have it on repeat when all of a sudden I realize it totally fits Regina. Clips start coming to my head in a rush and then I figure out the lyrical iffy part makes total sense when I do it in a certain way. I was super excited to get to do a Regina vid that would let out my Regina feels and I so cried making this. She's my FAVORITE and I was so glad to explore different parts of her character and show who she is to me ie my queen. The vidding was relatively painless, barely any clipping and it mostly flowed right out of me. So here's my Regina vid:

New Vid: Give Me Everything (Parks and Recreation) [Jan. 6th, 2013|11:28 am]

So as soon as I finished watching Pitch Perfect in the theater, I knew I wanted to vid the last mashup which was just epically awesome. While driving to Denver, I was listening to it and trying to place it to a fandom. I was looking for a Happy Endings song so I tried that and when that didn't work, I tried Parks and Recreation. SUCCESS! It fit perfectly and my excitement was only increased by knowing that Laura loves vids about ALL THE WOMEN and acapella. So when I got Eli as my assignment and had to pick a coverup, I chose this one, in part because I have another Parks vid planned and needed something to get me to clip it. In hindsight...maybe a bad idea with the 12 seasons of clipping to do (combining my assignment vid) but it did work as a motivator and I'm really happy I made this vid. There was a lot of tech problems making it as my external hard drive died and I had to rerip the DVDs and reindex them (they were in a weird order), then my Mac drive that was the new place for my DVDs died (twice) and finally I bought a new cheap drive and transfered the files from the backup drive ([profile] jetpackmonkey was a lifesaver here). Not to mention finding out I indexed the DVDs wrong so that they were in 29.97 FPS and not 23.976 and so I had to reindex everything.

Other than that though and clipping taking forever, this was so much fun to make! I rewatched the entire series and laughed so much and fell in love with Leslie Knope about 240928190 more times. Seriously, you do not want to know the number of times I proposed to her. I can't help but ship her with everyone although I admit it was very hard to get through the Leslie/Jennifer scenes without bursting into flames from the hotness. I loved getting a chance to focus on all the women's relationships with Leslie and with each other although I quickly realized there was way too much footage to fit into such a small song.

Title: Give Me Everything

Fandom: Parks and Recreation
Focus: Ensemble (Leslie and Lady Friends)
Spoilers: S1-510
Summary: You know my code. Hos before bros. Uteruses before duderuses. Ovaries before brovaries.
