So today marks my one year anniversary of watching The Office. Technically speaking, I watched the first two episodes the summer before last January but since I didn't get into it then it doesn't count. What happened is this: I heard The Office was smart and funny like Arrested Development so I decided to give it a try. I watched the Pilot and Diversity Day and enjoyed both. And yes, I liked Michael even then (I remember snoopypez talked about him). But it didn't blow me away so I stopped watching it since sadly no one told me it got SO MUCH better in S2, that the tone changes a lot and it stops imitating the original (which didn't work for me anyways). But on January 16, 2007 I decided to give it another try. My interest had been piqued by a few Flist entries I saw with the episode title of "Gay Witch Hunt" and me loving the gay like I do, I was curious to what it was about. I started from Health Care and from there it just got better and better. As I said then:
I am loving The Office with Michael just being hilarious with his horrible social skills and bad jokes. Best comedy I've seen since Arrested Development and I love the camera work.
That day was also the first time I saw The Dundies which is still my favorite Office episode. I got up to 203 on the 16th and the next day finished the entire S2 and 301 falling madly in love with it. Here I begin my obsession and mad love for the show. I fell for Michael Scott, thought Jim/Pam was super cute and was "strangely attracted" to Michael/Jan. I specifically remember really loving them in The Client against all odds. One of my distinct memories from that day was walking to lunch with my iPod watching Valentine's Day and cracking up so much on the way there especially with Michael's video. I also remember watching Gay Witch Hunt (finally!) and cracking up hilariously.
The thing I love about this show is it knows how to be LOL funny especially on the first run through but after that you can rewatch it and still crack up or think things are funny/smart from the character humor and brilliant lines. I love comedy that comes from the characters and this show with it's wonderfully quirky characters has it in spades. I also fell completely in love with all the characters, relating in different ways to all of them and caring about their lives. What I love is they have aspects of real life to them, even Michael and Dwight and yet they still have tints of larger than life characters. The show has one of the greatest TV romances of all time in Jim and Pam, S2 truly is a dream and they truly make me smile and charm me away ever so much. However it was my falling for Michael/Jan after Back From Vacation that got me shipping and obsessing over a couple like nothing else. After that episode, I went back and watched their old scenes together over and over again, joined a community, read all the fic I could and watched some vids. It's always nice having a couple to watch and they definitely heightened my want to see the next episode.
( More of my history with The Office. No real spoilers besides episode titles and emotional reactions )
So that's my Office story although I'm leaving out a lot. As I see it, we fell in love in January, broke up in April, had a long distance relationship in the summer and steadily dated throughout the fall. And now we finally have our first year anniversary. I have decided I will rewatch every episode while I take vid notes and give commentary in this LJ like I did for episodes after they first came out although with a more holistic bent. One thing is for sure, I'll never forget this show or ever not be in love with it in some way. Thank you, show for everything you've given me.
The Office: You complete me. |

Happy Birthday klia! I love your vids and think you are a kind and awesome person :) And yes, I'm going to try to do these this year since I will hopefully be posting more.
Know what's wonderful? Being out all day (including reading some interesting/inspiring books in the local bookstore) only to come home to read my amazing Flist. Just reading LJ, reading comments and seeing lots of vidding love puts me in such an awesome mood as I saw once again yesterday. It's just nice reading about so many things I'm interested in and that feels like *home* to me in a community way. I love it and don't know what I did before fandom.
If you haven't seen by now (have you been living under a rock?), the The Great Vidding Truth Meme is going around again where you can tell listed vidders anonymously what you think of their vids including (and encouragingly) constructive criticism. My thread is here and I would LOVE to receive any comments especially any thoughts on how I can improve as I'm always looking to get better. But everything is definitely appreciated. So if you'd like to make any comments on any vidders work and maybe find some new vidders, it's a great place for it. I really love to read the various opinions on vidders' work, it's always interesting to see what people think.
( That Television Meme which I had to do as they used some Office quotes for titles )
Speaking of TV theme song, I am in LOVE with the S4 theme of The Wire. I can listen to it over and over for hours nonstop. It's just so emotionally resonant especially with the singers. I uploaded it here if anyone needs it. Also, does anyone have the Due South theme with words that I could download? I only have the instrumental and the words make all the difference in this case. |

My reaction to last night's Office: OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG.
This morning's reaction to last night's Office: OMGOMGOMG.
( More coherent thoughts on The Deposition )
Lester Lewis, welcome to The Office family! I salute you, new writer. That was amazing. How am I going to live without this show? I really don't know. Ugly Betty (Marc, how are you so awesome and hilarious?) and Scrubs were both wonderful too but it's hard for me to concentrate on them when I have my show airing and being insanely too good. If they intended to BLOW MY MIND in order to get me to forget that this is the last episode for who knows how long then they certainly did their jobs. And now I wish this strike wold be over and the writers could get all the money they deserve (times infinity) because I love TV so much and all the things it can do. It's art, it's entertainment, it's love. |

Damn you, Fox! (wherein The Office writers are dawesome) |
[Nov. 14th, 2007|07:45 am] |
It's been a crazy week. Tuesday I went to the SAG solidarity stike at Universal and met a ton of famous people (more to come tonight as I'm too tired now) And on Friday I went to the big Fox rally and picketed with The Office writers and actors. It's hard to describe how awesome and nice and great everyone is. But I will do my best. Here's the list of people at the Fox Rally:
Fox Rally Meetings: Mindy Kaling, writer and actor on The Office Justin Spitzer, writer on The Office Jennifer Celotta, writer on The Office Paul Lieberstein, writer and actor on The Office Ed Helms, actor on The Office (only a sighting here) Brent Forrester, writer on The Office Michael Schur, writer and actor on The Office (only a sighting here) Greg Daniels, writer and executive producer on The Office Rainn Wilson, actor (and improviser!) on The Office Tony, new writer on The Office Ryan, new writer on The Office Larry Wilmore, one time writer and consulting producer on The Office Two Reno 11 guys (sighting) Jason Bateman, actor in Arrested Development Matt Battaglia, actor in Queer as Folk (Drew Boyd!) Josh Radnor, actor on How I Met Your Mother C.S Lee, actor on Dexter and Chuck Julie Louis Dreyfous, actor on Arrested Development and Seinfield and New Adventures of Christine (sighting) Matthew Weiner, creator of Mad Men
It was kind of like celebrity overload. It was good to see all the support for the strike out there and to support them myself! Also I got to see hafital and snoopypez (Tuesday) which was fun and made both experiences much more enjoyable.
( Details and Pictures under the cut )
The place I'm staying at has four cats who are all super cute and make me a lot happier to be here. I love cats. The pictures are under the cut as well.
( Pictures under the cut although not too many, sorry! )
It figures that on the hottest day yet when I could utilize the Pacific Ocean and LA beaches, I'm too exhausted from Tuesday. Oh well. I've been rewatching Veronica Mars S1 and I love it sooo much. Now I remember how good this show can be and how much I love the great OT4, Veronica/Lily/Logan/Duncan or whatever way you want to put them. The Wrath of Khan still has one of my favorite storylines ever and the end always makes me cry a little. Oh, Lily. I still wish there had been a VM prequel. Still one of my favorite seasons ever and shows how important storylines are. I really want to vid it but am still searching for the right song. Today I also rewatched the Gilmore Girls pilot and OMG it's the cutest thing ever! It reminds me of Pushing Daisies in how charming and funny and how great the dialogue is. Plus I am full of love for all the characters especially Lorelai <3. Knowing how it all ends makes it all the more poignant especially that last scene. They really have grown a lot. I actually do have a vid song for the show but I'm not quite sure if it fits Luke/Lorelai and I don't have the motivation do it to Dean/Rory or whatever else would fit better. Ooh and I loved House last night! First all around good episode since the S4 opener IMHO (not counting the squeeful 97 Seconds plotline of LOVE).
It's weird, I always feel like I'm on East Coast time when I'm in California. Like at 6 PM, it felt like 10 to me or sometime later. And then I wake up at 6 or 7 which is just ridiculous for me. Brain, adjust to the time zone already! Also, it's sad that I actually wish today wasn't Thursday. Because it's the last time a new Office episode will be airing, probably for the year :( And I hear there's a cliffhanger which sucks. Today I'm going to the Raleigh Studios (where I met Melora last year!) to join the "Gay Gate" picket and hopefully see some people from Ugly Betty the "gayest show on TV" :) I love my show. Plus it'll be great to support TWO causes I believe in. |

When I say Union, you say Power...UNION POWER! (Also tonight's Office and pictures!) |
[Nov. 8th, 2007|11:41 pm] |
I LOVED tonight's Office! STEVE CARELL wrote it!!! I was so surprised that I gasped and then squeed. Steve is a genius and he just *gets* the characters. Hilarious and brilliant and I love Michael too much to exist and there is a Jim growth arc beginning YAY and OMG I love this show times a billion. Which is why I almost started crying two times when I realized this would be the second to last time I would experience a new episode of The Office on Thursday. I will not be watching anything at 9 on Thursdays in solidarity. THIS is why Steve Carell did not show up for work on Monday and Tuesday. Because he IS a writer and a damn good one.
So today I visited Universal, NBC Burbank, Walt Disney and Warner Brothers. Lots of strikers out there and LOTS of honking. There wasn't more than 20 seconds between honks most of the time and a lot of the time it was continuous. I gave my support to all of them I met. At NBC Burbank I talked to a writer from Bones and one from Eureka and they told me that The Office writers and cast are at Universal at Barham St. So that's where I will be next week ;) No, I'll probably be at other places but I do hope to picket with The Office writers sometime if I can. At Walt Disney, a striker invited me to join in so I took a sign and got to it! It was lots of fun and great to feel a part of it. The funniest part was the guy singing the WGA strike protest song sung to YMCA. Sooo awesome. Lots of honking and I got to talk to the writers a lot more. I told them about all the fans supporting them, about the website and LJ and they were happy to hear it and invited all the fans to come join them.
Also, a website supporting Office writers and organizing efforts to support them: Office Fans For Office Writers. Go help!
Oh and finally: PICTURES! All under the cut. I have Colin and Brad from last April, older California pictures, pictures of me and The Office cast from the convention, the real Dunder-Mifflin and strikers and studios. Enjoy:
( Pictures under the cut )
Oh and because Jenna Fischer is awesome: I LOVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! I'm not sure I can say it enough. And boy...Riggins. Riggins! The tortured soul! The bedroom eyes! Jesus! Let's end the strike for Riggins!" Word. Also, for The Office because I need some new episodes desperately.
Tomorrow's Fox picketing should be HUGE! I'll be there supporting everyone! |

The Strike and Me (and short notes on my LA adventures) |
[Nov. 8th, 2007|09:26 am] |
So yesterday I saw Dunder-Mifflin! For realsies. It was awesome and surreal although it really is in the middle of nowhere (which works for Scranton). Unfortunately I came too late to see the striking there.
Please join and/or friend wga_supporters here on LJ to show support/get updates. There's also a website, Fans For Writers that is getting setup to help organize. United Hollywood also has lots of great updates.
Steve Carell is apparently suffering from "enlarged balls". He didn't actually say that (from Michael Schur/Jennifer Celotta) but him not showing up to work shows that is the case. Plus I think he'd find it funny (I know it gave me a good LOL moment). I love The Office but this strike is more important than getting new episodes. And The Office writers are amazing and brilliant and I fully support them (can't be said enough).
I am going to go out and check out some of the picket lines and support them as much as I can. I can't wait! I will definitely be at the big Fox (DAMN YOU FOX) showing tomorrow morning. The WGA has confirmed it's fine for everyone to join them so it's good to be accepted officially.
I am trying to keep up on LJ as much as possible but I'm probably going to be behind for awhile. It's so tiring being out all day and I'm still recovering from getting here. I will try to catch up tonight watching The Office and during the weekend. Seeing Hollywood/Highland, general LA downtown and Santa Monica has been awesome though. I love LA.
ETA: Just want to encourage everyone to keep writing fanfic (YAY writers!), making vids, creating fan art, writing meta, etc as that's not impacted by this. It's kind of ironic that NaNo celebrating writing is happening in the same month. The best thing to do so far is to send in letters to the studios telling them you support the site and will only watch your shows and not the new reality crap or whatever they put on. |

Brief Update |
[Nov. 6th, 2007|09:26 pm] |
I'm in California! OMGYAY!!! I am so unbelievably happy to be here. I hugged the first palm tree I saw just like I said I would :) And it's warm here! And I saw the mountains (including the Colorado ones) and will see the ocean tomorrow (Santa Monica for the first time!) and saw the Bank of America building from Angel and wow is my city ever big. But I love it all.
My travel curse continued as the car almost swerved off the highway, a tire blew off and we had to call Triple A which made me miss my flight. But I was alright and I got more tickets for free and I was only three hours late. Carrying around all my stuff on buses and walking was hell but I got here alright and so far the rooming situation seems awesome. I'm farther away from downtown as I would like but it's cheap and I can take buses and stuff into the city. I'm just glad I made it and everytime I looked out and smiled seeing California made it worth it. I have been up now since 2 AM and since it's technically 12:30 AM on the East Coast, I am exhausted.
I am SO excited for tomorrow though. I am visiting Hollywood and Highlands again, going to see Santa Monica and possibly going to see where The Office is shot! I want to see if they're striking and if they are, support them. Plus seeing The Office cast/crew again would be awesome ;)
On an Office note, I am so sad that out of all the shows that I could live without because of the strike, the ONE show that I can't is the one show that has stopped production. I totally support Steve, Greg, Mindy, BJ, Paul, Rainn, etc for striking but it does suck. I just wish they would get their money already so I could get more Office. |

I'm going to California! |
[Nov. 5th, 2007|05:26 pm] |
So tomorrow morning, I am flying to California to live. I can't believe it's finally here and I get to go back home tomorrow :) I have a place and will be looking for a job while I'm there. I am really looking forward to it and to seeing all my favorite places and visiting new ones. Plus I'm leaving 40s weather for 70s. Mmmm sunshine and warmth. I've missed it so much.
In honor of this event, my list of my top ten memories of my last year in California:
( California Top Ten )
All in all, it was an absolutely amazing year in the place I love the most. I can't believe I'm going back again! Hopefully it'll be filled with even more great new memories. I'm kind of scared striking out on my own but I really want the independence that comes with it so I'm mostly just excited.
California, YAY! |

The Wire S4 and the strike |
[Nov. 2nd, 2007|09:18 pm] |
So I finally finished S1-4 of The Wire. Oh, show. It truly is the greatest show of all time. How is it that the last two episodes of every season completely rip your heart out? Season four is the worst with the KIDS. God, I could not stop crying and writhing on my bed at the tragedy of it all.
( Spoilers for S4 of The Wire )
Now it's time for me to read and watch every media I can get about the show. And I'll definitely be watching it again for vidding (I have a song!) and understanding purposes. And because I love it. I know I'm missing some of the Greek tragedy aspects so I've got to read up on that. I'm going to get all the DVDs for Christmas too. So now that I'm all caught up, next on my list is Smallville and Farscape (FINALLY). Hopefully I can get those done and then it's a fight between Carnivale, Entourage, Rome and Sports Night. But that'll probably be next year.
So the writers are striking *sigh* Well, I'm looking at it from a pretend it's summer perspective so the worst of it will be losing The Office. I did hear that the reason why Paul Lieberstein didn't come to the convention was because he was trying to finish his script before the strike so I forgive him for that and further think he's awesome. I do think the writers deserve more money so I don't fault them but I do hope the strike doesn't last long so I can get my shows back soon. If they do go into reruns, it'll just be more time to catch up on other TV shows. The only good thing is The Wire won't be affected so at least there's that.
Good luck to everyone doing NaNo! My only goal this much is to try to post and comment more. |

Happy Halloween, everyone! Mmmm candy.

I love this scene from The Office so much. It's why I love Michael no matter what he does. He's just so cute! You've gotta be a child at heart on this day :) I've been watching Office episodes starting from The Dundies since I've missed the show so much. Back in my obsessive days, I would have to watch two episodes (at least) per day and it's nice to get back into it. It makes me so happy just to spend time with my characters.
There's also a new link to a Joss Whedon interview! Interviews with Joss, Steve/Rainn and John/Rashida (scroll down) He talks about directing on The Office and she asks about any TV shows of which he only mentions the Giles one although he wants to do another one which is good. And then Steve and Rainn are hilarious and awesome. My crush on Steve only continues to grow (seriously, how is he so hot? and smart?). Stupid Kristin has to stop their kiss though :( Bad, bad fangirl.
Tomorrow is Thursday!
ETA: Apparently Joss Whedon has a new series and is coming back to TV! Joss's New Show. Good news is it stars Eliza Dushku and has an interesting premise. Bad news is it's on FOX. What are you thinking Joss?? |

I really, really wish it was Thursday. Like almost every fangirl out there, I know, but this week especially. I am just looking forward to the next Office episode SO MUCH. I mean, Mindy Kaling + Joss Whedon? PERFECTION. That reminds me that in the Writer's Q and A period, they were all singing the praises of Joss Whedon. And although I saw some of the episode all it's done is want to make me see it again and I didn't catch some of the lines so I want to actually hear everything. The storylines truly are amazing. And I miss my characters. It really is an Office family and they're mine and I relate to all of them so much. I am so in love with this show it's not even funny (except the show is). I want to be immersed in it always.
No other show comes close for me. Pushing Daisies is the closest one airing right now and The Wire is amazing too...but I don't completely relate and love the characters with all my being and enjoy the plotlines wholeheartedly and become super fannish about it. There's just something special about The Office. I wonder what would have happened if I never watched it and I shudder at the thought. I wish I could pinpoint the exact moment I fell in love with the show but all I know was it was somewhere in the S2. And now it's just such a big part of my life.
I was thinking and really if I could combine The Office and House, Wilson and Cuddy together, I'd have my perfect show. Because then I'd have a huge OTC character and super squeeful OTP ship (I still love Michael/Jan but the current dynamic is not so much my OTP thing) along with all the rest of my show. But yet my modes of enjoying both shows are different with House being much more cynical and it would be hard to combine the shows so in reality it wouldn't really work. And in the end, The Office is almost perfect as it is so it doesn't need much.
Why isn't it Thursday???? |

I am really tired so this is going to be quick. Best moments of an AMAZING CONVENTION. Only Vividcon can top it and it's a close race.
-Meeting MINDY KALING - I told Mindy The Dundies was my favorite episode and she said it was one of the nicest things anyone had said and she would brag to BJ and Paul. I love that trio. And now I think Mindy is the best ever for her other appearances at the con. OMG love her! -Meeting Melora again and having her REMEMBER ME! She actually remembered who I was from last March :D :D -Watching Creed perform guitar and sing with The Scrantones as well as Kate sing and Darryl sing bringing the crowd into it. -Watching the cast Q and A which was DAWESOME! Ed Helms sang like five times and now I have a mad crush on him. Darryl kissed Mindy like five times which was awesome (Oscar and Creed almost kissed muahaha). Angela and Brian were absolutely adorable and it was littered with TWSS moments and special shout outs to episodes. Also there were BLOOPERS. I cracked up so much. -Seeing Ed Helms, Melora, Darryl and Brian (and co) perform with The Scrantones. Not only did they play the office song (I still love it playing repeatedly), Ed Helms was just too adorable and amazing. Melora was just a GODDESS and sang All Messed Up dedicating it to Michael AND putting in Michael references in the beginning and middle, singing Closer to You and dedicating to Michael and then singing another great song. I was in TOTAL heaven. Darryl got the crowd going with loud repeatings of "Ain't No Party Like a Scranton Party Because A Scranton Party Don't Stop!" and sang Crazy and another song. And then Brian came on stage and sang Roxanne and put SO much energy into it. And then Angela, Oscar, all the other performers except Melora (she already left) came onstage and sang and danced together. It was an amazing communal Office love moment. -Bloggers Breakfast with Brian, Bobby, Kate (who is awesome in RL!) and Andy Buckly (CFO! CFO! CFO! best cheer of the con) who all shared stories and Brian took Tanster from Office Tally in his arm and faked kiss her (I don't know what the dancing move is called). He DID kiss Angela in the autograph signings in the same manner. -Writers Q and A: No Paul :( :( :( but BJ came! And he and Mindy stole the show along with Michael Schur who is hilarious. Really interesting to hear. And then they showed 5-10 minutes of the next episode which is MINDBLOWINGLY AWESOME AND HILARIOUS. OMG I can't wait. And Mindy wrote it! Have I mentioned she's funny, cute, smart and adorable (she's like Kelly! Almost). -Getting to see Poor Richards, eat pizza at Alfredos, get more autographs/pictures at the Radisson and hang out with lots of Office fans. I LOVE MY SHOW! -Watching Dan in Real Life and melting half the time with the cuteness that is Steve Carell. My crush is back in full force!
This cast is simply the best ever. They CARE about the fans and love them so much. And we love them right back with TONS of applause and screaming and total adoration of them. There was so much thanks going all around. I am SO glad I went as I had one of the best times of my life. I'll be back next year as this is going on my annual con list with Vividcon. Yay The Office!
It was an awesome con overall. No words can really describe it. All I can say is everyone should come next year! |

Ain't no party like a Scranton party because a Scranton party don't stop! |
[Oct. 27th, 2007|05:12 am] |
So the other day I went to bed at 6 to try to catch up on sleep. I woke up at 1 AM. Didn't expect that. So I went on my Flist like you do and then tried to go to bed again a few hours later. Could not get to sleep. By the time it was 6 I had given up on the sleep idea and decided to make today the day where I FINALLY get caught up on my Flist. I did the same thing today. So if you're getting comments on posts from a week ago (that's how far I can go at skip 1000), that would be why. Remind me never to get so behind again. But it feels good to do so and now I don't feel so guilty. Hopefully I can keep doing it.
Tomorrow, actually today, I finally get to go to the Office convention! I am so happy. I am so in love with this show it's not even funny (but the show is!). I loved yesterday's episode times infinity. I will try to get caught up with posts next week and write about it. But this weekend I will be enjoying getting to see all the secondary cast and writers at OfficeCon in Scranton, PA. I am most looking forward to meeting Mindy and Paul as I want to tell them how much I love some of their episodes. I'm going to the Q and A cast talk on Saturday and can't wait! But most of all, I'm looking forward to being together with so many people who love The Office as much as I do. The fans are the best part usually about conventions. Already watching video clips of it is making me wish I was there NOW. It should be super fun.
Other good TV things: Pushing Daisies got picked up for a full season! Which means there WILL be a musical episode which means I am going to be a very happy person. And there's a VERY good chance the show will be at Paley which means I have a good chance of meeting Lee Pace *iz ded from the thought* GUH. Also, Stargate Atlantis got renewed for next year!
Two links:
Hot Men in White T-Shirt PicSpam Exactly what it says. I was covered in drool by the time I finished looking. Firefox Livejournal Plugin How cool is that? It lets you insert LJ cuts and LJ userinfo names! I love it already.
Before I leave, once more with feeling: Ain't no party like a Scranton party because a Scranton party don't stop! |

State of Me (ie Tired) |
[Oct. 22nd, 2007|11:51 pm] |
So I am insanely tired and just slept for 7ish hours. It's been kind of crazy keeping up with my Flist as I went to have a fun weekend in New Jersey to see blackstray (and celebrate her birthday!), indybaggins, clayangel, asuka14 and meet other people (and a dog). I already miss swinging with them. It was great and I had a really good time. Except for the bus trip from NYC where the bus was full so I had to wait from 1:15 am til 7:30 to go home. It sucked. Except for the fact that I'm now up to episode 406 of The Wire and I am glad to report that it really is the BEST SHOW EVER. The Office is still my favorite but this show destroys me with how good it is. The educational stuff is just so real especially to me. Man, I've so been there but that's a post for another day.
I have a huge backlog of post to really go through even though I've read most everything on my Flist. Still have SPN, FNL, Dexter, Heroes, HIMYM and Chuck to go through. But The Office made me insanely happy and I am still hopelessly in love with it. I can't wait for The Office convention next weekend! It'll be nice to be with people that love the show as much as me. Plus I reeeeally want to meet Mindy and Paul and thank them for some of my favorite episodes/moments. Cause they rock.
Also someone stole my video iPod :( :( People can really suck sometimes. So I bought an iPod touch which is the BEST thing ever. It's so shiny and pretty and I am enjoying watching my videos on it. Another Sunday never gets old. Plus there is WiFi access! Although not enough free wifi around.
I am kind of overwhelmed with all the stuff I have to do including a long day at work tomorrow. I need a week off or something to just sleep, watch tv, catch up fully on my Flist and vid. I also can't wait to go to California, fires and all.
Oh and Dumbledore is gay! I am so happy about that. He became my favorite character after book 7 as I just needed some good background on him and I was shipping Dumbledore/Grindelwald as soon as I finished reading so it's good to see my wishes were validated. I mean, it sucks that he's dead and I wish there were more gay characters in the book and actually proved canon in the books but it's better than nothing and he is a hugely influential character so I'm okay with it. I'm just so glad JK Rowling said something and that it was actually intended throughout the books. It just proves that slashers aren't always crazy to see slash because sometimes the authors feel they can't come out and say it. And I get it in Harry Potter it being so popular especially with children and the inevitable backlash to follow. But yay for Dumbledore being gay! |

Everything that is awesome |
[Oct. 5th, 2007|01:51 am] |
A meme that perfectly fits my mood today:
Rules are easy, just post 10 things that recently made you happy! Tag 10 people and force them to post this meme on their LJs. Do it if you have happy things to say!
1. THE OFFICE. MY SHOW!! It's back every week and it's still making me ridiculously happy and gleeful and I love ALL the characters and it's definitely my favorite show by infinity. Tonight's episode was hilarious and I loved it even more than last week with my FAMILY and the continuity and the relationships and KELLY *hearts* Can it always be Office day please? 2. There might be a Serenity movie!!! Apparently from Alan Tudyk, “They had to put [the new DVD] out because they’ve been selling out of the other one and so Universal’s like ‘So, let’s do another one’. And now… there’s now a chance there’s going to be another movie". OMG SQUEE! I mean, it's not for sure but that still makes me insanely happy that there's a chance. I'm getting the Collector's set for my birthday but I want to encourage everyone who loves Firefly/Serenity to buy it! 3. Pushing Daisies did well in the ratings! Everyone was so worried about them and now it won the time period :D I had faith because it is the only drama in the time period and seriously, the pilot is so beautiful and charming and brilliant, how could people not want to check it out? That being said, I was nervous all day and was very happy to hear it did well. Now the scary part is whether it loses any viewers next week. 4. Justin from Ugly Betty FILLS ME WITH CUTENESS! He is so adorable. And him and Marc are so awesome and make me so gleeful. And Wilhelmina is back to her awesome self. The whole show was hilarious tonight. 5. My boys from Supernatural are back! Still blah about the plot but there relationship is so cute and I adore Dean and the emo pain. 6. Grey's Anatomy is fun again! It's actually funny and there is the awesomeness of Cristina and slash that makes me happy (four instances for my favorite pairings!) and Bailey being super amazing and Meredith not being totally horrible. I prefer to ignore the bad things. 7. The Office did well in ratings on Thursday! It went up against heavy competition, yay! My show is awesome. 8. My birthday next week with a new Office episode!!! BEST present ever. 9. Mr. Bennett and Claire on Heroes continue to make me very gleeful each week. Also M cubed *hearts them* 10. Going to California in one month and a week!!!! Finally I get to go home to where I belong. With the warm weather and palm trees and entertainment capital of the world and the ocean and everything pretty much.
I need sleep. But I am happy to see my Flist full of TV squee. I have been fighting my anti-writing/procrastination nature lately and lack of sleep does not help. |

LJ Spam Day: Education |
[Oct. 1st, 2007|04:05 pm] |
But at least I'm starting spamming with a good cause. LJ/6 Apart are giving out free gift certificates for $30 (as in you don't pay, they do) that can be used at Donors Choose where teachers from low income schools put out proposals for things they need and people donate money so they can afford them. More details here. Be sure to ask for one by 5 Pacific time today (that's 8 Eastern). Personally I think it'd make a bit more sense to try to organize people together to purchase some bigger things instead of using the money in small increments for many different items but I don't know how that would be done. I will be using mine for a school in LA but I am having a hard time picking which one to help. More education is one of my *causes* so I think this is a great site and hope that it helps even only a little.
Another education link: Inter-city School Teacher: Richard Geib's account of his time as a teacher in an LA middle school which although 10 years ago or so, still has relevance. This really got to me emotionally but also showed a lot of the frustrating parts of society and was really interesting to read.
I am SO excited to watch Season 4 of The Wire!!! (Which looks at education if you are unaware) One more season to go...
Speaking of, from Mindy Kaling's article:
Is there another show that the cast of The Office obsesses over? Everybody loves The Wire... It's like The Godfather. They think it's the most amazing thing ever. How much do I love The Office cast right now? Even THEY see the brilliance of The Wire! It'd be so cool to talk with them about it at The Office convention which I'm going to. I love it when my favorite shows collide. Which brings me to Joss Whedon directing another episode of The Office! The Office + Firefly + The Wire = Perfection to me. |

I've had a really crazy/busy week but I wanted to say something about TV because I had planned a post but took a 5 hour nap instead.
I LOVE TV. It completes me, it really does. Having so many of my shows premiering this week and seeing my Flist squee just reminded me of what TV adds to my life and how happy and gleeful it makes me. Plus I got to watch some of it with lianri which was a lot of fun. I'm still behind on seeing some premieres/second episodes but I will get to that by tomorrow hopefully. For now, short non-spoilery reactions.
How I Met Your Mother: Love it! Hilarious and hot and cute and sweet. Just the way I like it. Chuck: I enjoyed it! Very entertaining and a great concept. Chuck is so cute. Heroes: LOVE it! Mr. Bennett and Claire! *hearts them* Matt and Mohinder and Molly! My super cute Hiro is back :D Somehow this show turned into a character love show for me. And it was funny! House: OMG LOVE! I still have not recovered. This is one of THE episodes that shows why I watch the show along with Act Your Age, All In, House vs. God and Safe. Lots of House hilarity, House/Wilson SQUEE and House/Cuddy love. The OT3 rules all. Reaper: I enjoyed it! Much funnier than I thought and pretty entertaining concept. Pushing Daises: Not on yet but I rewatched half the pre-air version and LOVED it once again. The pretty and the concept and the narrator and the cute main character and oh, everything have won me over. Private Practice: Meh. I love LA and I love Addison but that's about it. The characters need to get better but I'll give it a few episodes. Gossip Girl (pilot): I like the idea of it but right now it's not clicking for me. NYC is awesome and I hear the books are good so I'm giving it more time. Dirty Sexy Money: LOVE it! Second favorite pilot of the season and I think it's awesome (the name IS the best). The characters are fun and interesting, the plot is entertaining, it's funny and it reminds me of Arrested Development which I miss a lot so this helps. Highly recommended. Ugly Betty: Love it! It totally made me cry yet was so funny. Also, I LOVE Justin times infinity. He and Hiro are having an adorable contest and Justin is winning at the moment. The Office: LOVED IT! My show is back and once again it's the best and makes me the happiest. I laughed throughout the entire thing and loved all my characters SO MUCH. How is this show so good? My glee is indescribably high. Grey's Anatomy: I liked it. It's gotten better but a few of last season's problems and one new one is still dragging the show down. But I LOVED Cristina who is awesome and rules all so I'll keep watching. Stargate Atlantis: I liked it! My Rodney love is back in full force and McShep is still super cute and are so boyfriends. Yay!
May TV never leave me again. |

This is Bull**** (Can't watch that episode now) |
[Sep. 4th, 2007|08:45 pm] |
So I got my Office DVDs today which I've been waiting four months for and of course I can't play them. Just got home from a two day trip without internet access and a long day at work and all I want to do is watch all the extras, deleted scenes and commentary but I can't. ARGH. 4 TV's, 3 computers and one TV/DVD I can't use because my dad won't let me and the other option, the playstation just ate my DVD and won't eject it and I can't get it open because we don't have the right screwdriver. And the three other DVD players don't work for one reason or another. So now I can't watch my DVDs.
Congratulations universe, you WIN.
Good things:
-INTERNET. -Watched my Heroes DVDs and the extras (minus commentaries/all but disc 1 deleted scenes) which are cool although slightly lacking in terms of a blooper reel. I want to see more of the cast touching! -Am back in a Firefly mood after watching the DVDs the last few days. Our Mrs. Reynolds and Jaynestown are just love and the Our Mrs. Reynold's deleted scene is hilarious. And then the extras are so much love especially the making of (DAMN YOU FOX) and the theme song. (And now I can't watch the Joss interview on The Office DVD :( ). And then I've been watching my favorite Firefly vids lately especially Rodeohead and a bunch of Firefly mashups I've made -Vid Mashups. They are so fun to make and sometimes turn out amazing in terms of lyrics and music. -Finished Wonderfalls which I adore. I stopped watching last time after the third episode which bored me but I needed something smart and fun to watch so I watched the fourth episode and feel madly in love. I think that one's still my favorite although Crime Dog is awesome as well. I just bore quickly of the romantic subplot(s), I'm all about Jaye and her family. -Dante's Cove which is just...indescribable. I watch for the boy kissing and the beaches and hot sex and we'll just ignore the bad dialogue and acting and everything else wrong with it. -No school tomorrow or anytime soon. No essays, thank god.
I miss California so much. I want to go *home*. |

More Vid Recs from Vividcon |
[Aug. 20th, 2007|10:10 pm] |
So here's my complete list of some of my favorite vids from Vividcon. These are not the only good vids from the con but the ones that stick out to me whether because of originality, emotion, movement or favorite show.
Vogue (300) by sockkpuppett: This is a memorizing vid that uses split screen, motion with sped up/slowed down footage and color to beautiful effect. Also, there are pretty, pretty men. A must watch no matter if you've seen the movie or not. Female gaze, FTW! Women's Work (Supernatural) by sisabet and sockkpuppett: This is the part of the Supernatural that most people would like to ignore. The visual treatment of women on the show can be disturbing and offensive to watch all at once but it's all from the show and vidded with the greatness you can expect with these two vidders. A feminist vid that really needs to be seen and thought about no matter your conclusions. Snakes on a Plane (Harry Potter) by dualbunny: The song choice makes the vid with all the awesome snake imagery in Harry Potter and little!Harry having to grow up to face the world. Hilarious clip choices and fantastic use of motion. Another great Harry Potter vid, yay! Want (Supernatural) by destina: Deliciously dark and sexy evil point of view vid with the lyrics fitting incredibly well. Visually this vid is stunning with distinctive images, overlays, parallels and motion. And taken from fandom's pov, it only gets better. Sugar (Smallville) by keewick: I never thought I'd see the day a good vid about Lana would premiere at Vividcon but this one completely blew me away. It shows Lana's relationships with Whitney, Clark and Lex and why she's with with them. The imagery is incredibly beautiful and the song choice is perfect for all the different aspects in her life. West of Her Spine (Dexter) by sweetestdrain: Incredibly disturbing in a very, very good way. The music has the underlying dark edge to it that works for a great twist in the point of view character showing both the true and false sides to his soft sides. A unique and very affecting Dexter vid. Martina (Veronica Mars) by keewick: I was so excited to see a VM vid and this one did not disappoint at all. Also, I totally guessed this one was by Keely and I suck at guessing but the distinctive song choice and quick cutting with emotional impact gave it away for me. It explores the rape arcs on Veronica Mars with frightening images as well as the way Veronica stays strong throughout it. The clicks of shoes walking and the internal motion in this particularly win me over. Beethoven's Fifth of Gold Digger (Gone With The Wind) by absolutedestiny: You would not expect Kanye West's Goldigger to work with the movie but it does somehow. I love the cutting and the great clip-lyric matches especially. The underlying gender and race issues are interesting as well which absolutedestiny talks about in his LJ. Filthy Mind (Multifandom) by sol_se: So many amazing parallels between shows in this vid. If you vid three rains of bloods, I am almost guarenteed to love the vid. Not to mention Faith and Sam (from Life on Mars) dancing. The cutting is great either quickly pulling you into all the great associations or lingering on the best ones as well as the motions all moving right into one another. Very, very cool. Nothing New (Firefly) by heresluck: Oh, MAL. A beautiful, heartbreaking look at the Mal/Inara relationship with perfect song choice (as usual) and such pretty motion. If the last clip doesn't break your heart, there's nothing I can do to help you.
( More vid recs under the cut )
Speaking of Baltar, when I first watch Battlestar Galactica, I hated him. I thought he was scum of the earth who deserved to die horribly. But then I stopped taking him seriously. Now I see him as funny and enjoy him from a distance. I even have a bit of a fondness for him. It definitely helps me enjoy the show more.
I have all the VVC discs burned on my computer now so I have a great playlist with all of them plus the auction vids. It's lots of fun to listen to and go back and watch. I collected a bunch of vid discs from Vividcon including 2004 Premieres (which I'm SO happy to have), heresluck's vids (she's currently taking orders for them here), greensilver and cherryice's vids, morgandawn and friends' vids, gwyn_r and friends' vids and absolutedestiny's vids. And melina123's vid DVD should be coming soon. Not a bad collection along with my VVC2005, VVC2006, Bascon and Escapade discs. I love seeing vids on TV and high quality on my computer.
I finished Stargate Atlantis! I enjoyed it except for ( Spoiler for 3x17 Sunday ) Still in love with Rodney and excited for next season. I hope they continue to make more character focused episodes and 3-D villians.
I cannot wait for The Office DVDs come out! I probably won't finish my vids for the show until after they do so I can have shiny DVD vids. My plan to begin trying to vid everyday is stalled at the moment as I try to finish VVC stuff but I really hope I can start soon. My New Year's resolution was to "Vid More. Vid Better." so I'm hoping actively trying to make vidding a habit will help with the first part. I have 10 vids I'd like to finish by the end of the year or at least by January so we'll see how that goes. |

Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win |
[Jul. 19th, 2007|06:13 pm] |
The Office got 9 Emmy nominations! YAY!!! I am so happy and proud of everyone who works on the show. It's good to see the show get the recognition it deserves. And I am SO happy with the acting nominations :D Steve, Rainn and Jenna, it's the most perfect I could expect from the Emmys. First of all, RAINN WILSON got the supporting actor nomination!! OMG YAY! I totally screamed in happiness at that news. It is so good to see him recognized because he truly is an amazing actor and this season was Dwight's season to shine. It was great to see the show and Rainn go beyond the caricature and make him so three dimensional from his love of authority to his geekiness to his relationship with Angela (Traveling Salesman FTW) to his principles (The Negotiation FTW) to his sweet moments with Pam (Back From Vacation/The Job FTW!). If there is any beloved character now, it's gotta be Dwight and Rainn did an amazing job of showing why. Plus, he's really, really funny. And I have to say THANK GOD John Krasinki didn't get the nomination over Rainn Wilson as I would have been pissed. I'm sick of all the fangirl focus on him to the exclusion of Rainn (and everyone else) especially when he didn't even do much this season. So I had a nice MUAHAHA moment there even though it would have been nice to see them both nominated.
Also Jenna Fischer got a nomination YAY! I am so happy and so proud of her as she really deserves this award. She did such a great job with Pam's transition into Fancy New Beesley and Beach Games and The Job completely won me over to her character. It's good to see the Emmy's recognize an actress that isn't famous and a character that is more subtle that most. Also I'm so glad Steve got the nomination for Business School! He did an amazing job in that episode especially with the end which was emotionally magnificent and showed why I love Michael. I understand Steve not getting as much fanfare but if he hadn't been on the list, I would have been enraged with the snub so I am thankful I can be relatively happy with the Emmy nominations. I also loved seeing Gay Witch Hunt and The Negotiation get writing awards as I think both are strong, funny episodes that get ignored in the favor of *big* episodes. GWH in particular is a favorite of mine that cracks me up everytime. Also I'm happy for Ken Kwapis and the editing team whose contributions often get overlooked but are important nonetheless. The only thing I'm disappointed about is the cast not getting a casting award and Melora not getting nominated not to mention Angela but it's the Emmy's so whatever. Hopefully The Office will at least win a few of the awards as I don't trust the voters to recognize one of the best shows on earth even if there is some good competition (but not better).
( More Emmy Positives and Negatives )
I may actually make three LJ posts (so sorry for the Randy delay) today for the first time in a long time. But I'll be gone all day tomorrow and Saturday for work and HARRY POTTER (!!!) so there you go. And I'm watching Torchwood and there was actually two great plots in a row! I get quickly bored with alien cop procedural format, Captain Jack Hotness or not, so seeing two good episodes was wonderful (the Greeks one and Suzie who I actually liked in the pilot). I still am not sure if I'll be able to finish Farcape before VIVIDCON (so excited!) but I'm glad to hear about the new stuff coming to that and BSG. Have I mentioned the 7th Harry Potter book is coming out tomorrow and I haven't been spoiled yet? CANNOT WAIT! |

If luck weren't involved, I would always be winning. |
[Jul. 10th, 2007|07:47 pm] |
So I have both the worst luck in the world and the best luck. Mostly good though. Last Saturday I accidentally spilled lemoñade on my laptop *cringe* I turned it off quickly and got most of it off but I was terrified I had broken my laptop completely. The fact that it cost a *lot* of money to buy and I don't have money to spare now was one of the bad parts not to mention my laptop is my most important possession with all the internet and vidding stuff I do. It's my baby, like Dean and his Impala. And the worst thing was I had just gotten back into vidding again and ripped all of my Office DVDs in preparation of the four vid projects I have for the show (1 ensemble, 1 Michael/Jan, 1 Michael and 1 Jim/Pam, Pam centric). So yeah, I had a mini freakout/cry but I let it sit for the night and today was able to take it to a computer place. There I get the best news in the world: my laptop still works!!! :D I had to clean it but most of it got on the DVD drive which with some cleaning is now fine. So I got lucky as the computer guy said, it had only happened to one other person. He even helped me more because my laptop is a *special* Asus laptop *adores* Thankfully I still have my external hard drives with backups with most of my stuff (although not the music and some vids) but it could have been a distaster without it. Let this be a lesson to everyone to ALWAYS back up your laptop/computer and never put any kind of drink near it.
So I have my internet back as I was only able to get on intermittently and at times barely at all due to my stupid, selfish, jerk brother (have I mentioned he's the only one in the world who I truly hate?) not letting me on the family computer. I will try to comment on some of the things I missed since I'm back now :) I used the time away to catch up on rereading the Harry Potter books and I have now finished the first five in time for the fifth movie which I'm seeing tomorrow afternoon :) I had forgotten how much I loved them for the characters, plots, platonic relationships and world building not to mention all the emotion inspired by them. SO GOOD. I am starting to get back into Potter mania just in time even though the fandom still is too big and scary for me to venture much inside. I will write up some of my thoughts on the books once I finish the sixth one.
Another thing I am deeply in love with at the moment are VIDS. Thank god my iPod still worked so I could watch them but I hated being away from some of the great vidding related posts I saw. I can't believe Vividcon is here in one month OMG! Vividcon is one of the best experiences I have ever lived through and I am psyched to go again and enjoy it once more. It's going to be fun hanging out with vid lovers and vidders and watching vids and talking about them and just GUH it sounds like heaven already. I really am truly grateful to have vidding, I need that creative outlet and making vids gives me more reason to feel excited about life and what I can do with it. And of course, watching everyone's vids and reading about them makes me incredibly happy. Yay vid fandom!
I have also been getting my parents to finally watch The Office! It's hard with S1 but I've been able to get them to keep watching so all is good. And it's good to see S1 again and get more familiar with it. The funny parts are more spaced apart but there are some moments that had me LMAO that are made more funny by knowing the characters so I still enjoyed them. I do love how they capture the characters so well but I'm glad they took away some of the distance towards Michael they had in S1 and gave him more plots in S2/S3 to make him more lovable. My favorite episode is still Basketball as it makes me laugh the most and the plot moves along well with all the characters involved but I always enjoy Healthcare and The Alliance with their great Dwight/Jim/Pam plots. After The Job, I love Dwight and Pam even more so if anyone has any fic recs with them (platonic but I'm okay with anything more), I'd love to read them.
Also, I'm seeing Randy Harrison and other QAF friends in Stockbridge/Boston in 3 days! I can't wait. Things are definitely starting to look up for me :)
ETA: Could Gilmore Girls could have ended more perfectly? I think not. It ended *exactly* the way I wanted it to *happy sigh* |

I know everything about film. I've seen over 240 of them. |
[Jul. 3rd, 2007|09:25 pm] |
First Happy Belated Birthday to norwich36, makesmewannadie, tamalinn and ficbyzee! I hope you all had great days and a wonderful year to come. So today was my movie catch up day. I've been feeling kind of meh about movies lately as TV shows better suit me. The best way I can explain it is it takes too long for me to get into movies and once I do, they're practically over. Whereas with TV, while it might take me a little while to get into a show, once I do I have a lot more of the show to fall in love with. But I do love when I see high quality movies which I've been doing lately except for Evan Almighty. But I was only seeing that for Steve and seeing all the Michaelisms and ultimate cuteness and squeeing over Steve made it all worth it. I don't think the movie is as bad as the critics say it is, it was fun and cool to see on the big screen and I did love the animals and laughed enough to make it a comedy movie for me. And I didn't think the religion was too much so it worked for me. The other night I saw Little Miss Sunshine again which has become my third favorite movie (behind Serenity and Brokeback Mountain). For me it's the perfect comfort movie; whenever I'm feeling particularly emotional I watch it and it makes me feel better about life and just happy with the universe. I would actually love to see a good vid to it one of these days.
So today I saw three amazing movies. The first was a classic, Casablanca which I have never seen and which needed to be remedied stat. I really enjoyed it, took me awhile to get into as usual but the narrative was absolutely wonderful. And the end made me ever so happy with the two guys walking into the sunset...mmm slash. Then I watched Memento which blew my mind with how cool it was, how interesting and unique it was in terms of narrative. Lots of Matrix people which always helps too.
And I finally saw Dead Poet's Society which...WOW. Now I know why everyone was crying over Lullaby at Vividcon. First the movie broke me and then that vid did multiple times. I had seen half of the movie last August but again had a hard time getting into it. This time it was much easier especially with seeing kid!Wilson who completely won me over with his enthusiasm and adorable relationship with Todd. To anyone who hasn't seen the movie, I HIGHLY recommend it. It really teaches you to make something out of your life, to be a non-conformist no matter the cost, no BECAUSE of the cost and it's really a great story for any person who has ever been a student or teacher (I assume that's everyone. It rocketed up to number four on my favorite list of movies and I think it shares some similarities with Little Miss Sunshine with them both being about people pursuing their dreams no matter what society thinks and especially with the amazingly well acted heartwrenching scenes of Dwayne and Todd. So go watch it!
Links: Life As We Know It - Second City - Ryan Stiles AND Steve Carell together in their younger days makes me ridiculously happy. They're so cute! Unaired Colin kisses Ryan sketch on Whose Line - I may have died in happiness watching this clip over and over when I first saw it. What makes it even better than the first purely Colin initiated kiss is the "worked together for 20 years" and "Oh who am I kidding" right before it. Just so awesome and it fills my romantic heart with glee.
Everyone's been posting a ton about Doctor Who but I'm finding it still hard to get into the show in the second current season. My problem with it is it's all stand alones and I only like the Docter and Rose so it's hard for me to get into watching it. I will by Vividcon though. Oh and I changed my page layout a bit mostly to use a new Office header which has some of my favorite Dundies scenes in it. Still my favorite Office episode, of course. |

Well, you always left me satisfied and smiling (TWSS!) |
[Jun. 20th, 2007|11:32 pm] |
The main reason for this post is to give a big Happy Birthday to keewick and dualbunny! Not only are you two amazing vidders but also super cool and kind people that I have the pleasure of knowing :) Also a Happy Belated Birthday to messyjessie58 and mizzmeow! I hope you both had a wonderful and special day.
I have been in a House/Wilson loving mood lately after rewatching the H/W parts of Sex Kills to House vs. God (LOVE that episode) not to mention Babies & Bathwater. I had forgotten how freaking hilarious this show is especially when you remove the boring medical crap. And also, so very, very slashy. Oh and I finally got a chance to see Inside the Actor's Studio with Huge Laurie and I almost died with love for him. Not to mention the House/Wilson "I'm game" squeeage, my problems with the question aside (she should have only asked the first question and left it at that). At the moment, I think the show should stick with subtext for the three main couples (how awesome is it that H/W is actually a main couple) or go out and do all three. Less with the dating and more with crazy affairs to see how House handles relationships. I would even be okay with House/Cameron if they gave House/Wilson the same treatment although I know that would never happen. I just love how the show looks into character issues, that's a big reason why I'm watching it.
I've actually been reading some amazing fic for them and loving it especially Gentle Implosions by elynross that completely blows me away and reminds me why I read fanfic again. I highly recommend it. If you have any House/Wilson amazing fic recs for me, now's the time to let me know. And also I found a House vid I enjoyed by kuwdora here that has some great internal motion matching the music and a great song choice because House is definitely a universal cynic.
Still working on the Premieres vid and I keep getting work done it and then hitting a brick wall. I had forgotten how hard vidding can be when you're not sure how best to communicate something to the audience and whether its any good or not. Vidding is hard. </ whine>
ETA: But then I do it again and everything falls into place and it's SO MUCH FUN. Vidding <3
Steve was so awesome and hilarious on The Daily Show. And Captain Jack was there! Hee. I watched Sexual Harassment last night and surprised myself at how much I laughed throughout it. The Office is a show that never gets old no matter how many times you watch it.
Sorry to end on a negative note but this news story about a sickening hate crime makes me so sad. The depressing fact is that there's barely any press about it. Sometimes I really don't understand the world. |

Fashion show! Fashion show! Fashion show at lunch! |
[Jun. 14th, 2007|12:02 am] |
I have to wish a big Happy Birthday to destina! I hope you had a wonderful day :) Same goes for kelbelle, shadownyc, morgandawn, paraka and sherlockelly who I wish a big Happy Belated Birthday!
I've been watching Ugly Betty since all my fun shows lined up have disappointed me lately and I am loving it. It's so fun and entertaining but at the same time has so much diversity, tackles great plots and issues and has a lot of emotional heart to it. I adore Betty and Daniel as friends, love Marc (like Emmett! but delightfully meaner) and Justin (SO CUTE), have a huge geek crush on Henry and I love all of Wilhelmina's schemes. And I completely ship Betty/Henry because have I mentioned the super cute geek love? I'm up to 113 and I just have to say ( Spoilers under the cut )
I'm still working on vidding my Premiere vid for Vividcon. I keep stopping and starting again because I'm so afraid of messing this vid up as I've had the idea for a year and a half and it's the PERFECT song. At least I love it and have played it on repeat too many times to count and still love it everytime. At the very least everyone should be exposed to it. But I don't want to do a lesser job on it than I'm able to and I'm afraid I'm not good enough to do it. The good news is my idea/concept/narrative for it is about 90% done and I have most of the clipping done and some of the basic clips down. There's a lot of musical aspects to the song that I want to show in the visuals but it's really hard to do. Does anybody have any vid recs for vids that you think use the music *really* well? Not just cutting on the beat but capturing all the little things in the music whether through internal motion, effects or whatever else. I've also been thinking about framing in videos. As in what are the different reasons for opening and ending a vid with the same (or same scene) clip versus beginning and ending a vid with two different outcomes to show the contrast between them? Think Superstar versus Out Here. Any thoughts?
Office wise, I really enjoyed watching this documentary about The Office. I wished it talked more about fandom but I did love seeing all The Office love. And I'm really looking forward to going to Chili's with my Office loving friend before Evan Almighty. An awesome blossom, extra awesome and Baby Back Ribs are sure to be on the menu ;) And I just have to say that after watching The Dundies yet another time, it's still my favorite episode. It may not be the best episode (I'll give that title to Casino Night), it makes me the happiest. It shows how much Michael cares about his employees even when he messes up in showing it and how they all care about each other as a family. Drunk!Pam is amazing and makes me smile and happy and *her* feeling that way. And then there's the fun boss!Jan/Michael phone conversation, Michael's boycrush fun and Dwight being Dwight. The music in the end is perfect to me, it sums it all up and leaves me satisfied and smiling (TWSS!). |

Summer TV |
[Jun. 9th, 2007|12:46 am] |
So here's my list of shows to watch and/or catch up on this summer with strikes through the ones I've done already:
Veronica Mars, Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock, Scrubs, Battlestar Galactica, Dexter, Gilmore Girls, The Office UK, Torchwood, Life on Mars, Farscape, The X-Files, Stargate Atlantis and Doctor Who before Vividcon. Possibly How I Met Your Mother. Does it get any better? Because I watched the first episode and found it very unfunny although I did like Barney. Maybe Frasier, Wonderfalls, Ugly Betty, Dead Like Me and Smallville if I can handle it. Are there any shows I should add if I don't want to be very spoiled at Vividcon this year? I usually watch shows based on whether they're high quality (the higher the better), the number of vids to it (extra points for really good ones) that I need context for, general fandom interest (so I don't have to skip as many episode posts) and personal interest (procedurals are mostly out ie CSI, Law and Order, Bones as are reality shows ie American Idol). Any other TV recs?
I'm also planning to marathon some shows with a friend to get her to watch some high quality television. So I may be rewatching Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Arrested Development, Heroes and possibly Veronica Mars S1 if I can. Yeah that's a lot of TV but I doubt we'll make it through all of it. The trinity of Whedon shows plus AD is a necessary in quality TV IMO. And there's always fun rewatchings of The Office :)
I always like to hold a vid over my head to reward myself for finishing a show. I finished Dexter tonight which was amazing and I encourage everyone to watch. Not only are the visuals absolutely stunning but the narrative is interesting and it makes you care about the characters even if they are serial killers. Sounds crazy but true. So I finally got to watch sockkpuppett's vid Blood Fugue which is just as amazing as usual and a definite rec. I also finished Gilmore Girls S5 so I got to see obsessive24's Maybe Tomorrow here which is Christopher/Lorelai but even if you're a Luke/Lorelai shipper (I'm both) you should still watch it. It makes a static show *move* and is full of heart, cool parallels and great building with the music.
I saw Steve Carell on The Tonight Show tonight *squee* How is it possible for one man to be so funny, cute and smart? I usually just catch actors appearances on youtube but it was definitely worth it to watch him. I really can't wait til Evan Almighty. I still can't believe I met him, it's like a dream. Which speaking of, I had a dream where I finally met John Krasinski since he's the only one I haven't seen yet. I got to have a conversation with Creed and Melora too. I will definitely be at the Office convention in October and at Melora's show in LA in January. I can't wait! I went to my cousin's house this weekend and survived my first 24 hours without internet in a looong time but the best part is we went past Scranton twice and the second time we stopped in the city. My parents and I went to the Mall at Steamtown and I saw Victoria's Secret, ate a Auntie Anne's Pretzel (like Kelly) and got a bunch of pictures in front of the Welcome to Scranton sign. The only bad part is I couldn't find Poor Richard's Pub. Yeah, I'm a total Office fangirl and proud of it :) |

While today it is me, we all shall fall |
[May. 31st, 2007|02:34 am] |
So I'm back in NY with my family after my first year of college. I miss California a LOT. It's not just the weather as it's been beautiful here but that sense of freedom and adventure and newness. Not to mention there being nothing to do here reminding me how much I hate it. Sick of my family in a week as was to be expected. But I LOVE my cats and that helps. Also I got my laptop back to working :D I hadn't realized how much I missed it until I had that freedom of my own computer and being able to save everything, download and go on it as much as I want. I've been really bad with commenting lately and I apologize. I'll try to get better at that.
In regards to fandom, well I'll hopefully have a roundup of all the finales up soon. More importantly, I'm sure most of you have already heard all about the Livejournal Strikethrough 2007 debacle that's going on but if you haven't, check out the link here that'll give you a good summary and lots of links. In short, a group called Warriors For Innocence (and possibly others), in their quest to stop pedophiles and other evils threaten Six Apart/Livejournal to shut down journals which list things like incest, rape and whatnot in their interests and not only take down a few communities that needed to be taken down but suspend communities and users based on fictional interest, rpg characters and a Spanish community dicussing Lolita. WTH LJ. Of course it was for legal pressures and all about money as usual but the lack of discretion or warning for the difference between fictional and real is disturbing. No matter your involvement in fandom, remember this: Even more scary are PR comments made not to LJ's customers but the media:
"Our decision here was not based on pure legal issues," countered Six Apart's Berkowitz. "It was based on what community we want to build and what we think is appropriate within that community and what's not. We have an awful broad range of discussions and topics and other things going on in LiveJournal, and we encourage other broad-ranging conversations on all sorts of topics. This was a specific case where we felt there was not a reason (for these journals to stay online)."
When someone starts trying to decide what is appropriate, I know there's a problem. It may not be a freedom of speech issue in terms of the law but I always thought of Livejournal as a place to freely express my thoughts and stories with many people who would do the same and this violates my trust in the site and service I paid for. That's part of where the moral outrage is coming from, I think, at least for me. I hope this blows over and LJ apologizes and makes amends by unsuspending fandom accounts not to mention real life support groups and the like although I'm not too hopeful at the moment. It feels to me that this is quickly turning into a Heroes plot with fandom being the exploding man if 6Apart/LJ doesn't do something to diffuse the situation. In the meantime, take off anything illegal from your interests (and no wincest is not illegal as the very definition is about two fictional characters), backup your journals with LJarchive or a similar serive, join fandom_counts to be counted a member of fandom (I've always wanted to see how many people were in fandom) and create a backup journal at GreatestJournal or a similar LJ like site. I'm anoel43 at GreatestJournal as anoel got taken before I could snatch it up (still anoel on Vox though). I hope there isn't a migration but I'm not exactly trusting LJ anymore.
In the end, fandom will survive. We will continue creating fanfic, fanart, fanvids, meta, episode reactions and lots of squee. We're do gen, het, slash, incest, chan, underage and every other boundary breaking thing no matter what the world tries to do. You can't stop the signal.
After all that, go check out the Picspam of Hotties that includes many, many pages of many of our favorite characters and actors being as hot as they possibly can. It definitely cheers me up. Here's my selection under the cut (warning for big pics):
( Mmmm goodness )
And with that I will go back to marathoning Scrubs S5 as I am completely, head over heels in love with the show. |

Beach Games |
[May. 17th, 2007|04:05 pm] |
Happy Birthday paddies and claireweasley! Claire, thank you so much for all your wonderful fic, great picspams and most of all, you're great personality. I hope you have a great year!
Happy Belated Birthday to jarrow272 and hafital!
Let it be known that at this moment, I am INSANELY jealous at all you East Coast people watching The Office finale right now. In the meantime, here's my episode thoughts on Beach Games.
( The Office: Beach Games spoilers )
In other news, I have gotten hooked onto Scrubs. It's so good! I needed a new comedy to watch and no laugh track + high quality + funny and charming= a great show for me to watch. I'm on S2 right now. I love all the characters not to mention the funny fantasy sequences. But my definite favorite part is Dr. Cox. He's like House! I definitely have a type. He's so funny though and handles JD so well with his hilarious speeches. And yet he really does care about his patients and even makes heroic moves for them sometimes. I have completely fallen for him. I'm not much for shipping for this show but I'm especially open to any Dr. Cox ships, at the moment Cox/JD, Cox/Jordan and even a little Cox/Carla. I do love JD with all his funny fantasies and because he's such a dork and it's too cute. And lines like this: "Sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it" are not only incredibly slashy but adorable. JD/Turk's best friendship is so enjoyable to watch. I really like Eliot too with all her insecurities and funny inappropiate comments and Carla is great too. And Jordan is too funny and awesome at throwing down comebacks. The end of the last episode of S1 KILLED me in its awesomeness. The only thing I'm not so much of a fan of is the Turk/Carla relationship which bores me. Oh well. I'm on His Story now which was wonderful in diverting from the standard JD POV. Looking forward to watching more!
Onto the Upfronts. I'm happy that The Office got more episodes but after all the talk of more episodes, it was a little disappointing. I just don't want to deal with any more horrible hiatuses. The move to 9:00 scares me even though I know being the highest/second highest show on Thursday, it makes sense. And I do know that NBC loves the show so its not going to cancel it if the ratings go down. But it makes it harder to get people to watch it if they're watching other things. I'm happy Friday Night Lights is renewed even if Fridays does not seem like the best time to put it but I'm hoping NBC will move the show to a different day (maybe for a low rated new series) if it does bad. I'm hoping to catch up on How I Met Your Mother this summer so I'm glad that's renewed as well. I don't usually look forward to new shows until I hear critical and fannish review of them but at the moment I may be checking out Pushing Daises, Private Practice, Gossip Girls and Viva Laughlin because I am a sucker for musicals. We'll see. I'm not heartbroken over the Veronica Mars cancellation because I've been so disappointed with the show lately and it looks like Rob Thomas has not found a way to get the quality back to S1. Oh well, I'll always have my season one DVDs.
It's been kind of a crazy week for me in traveling. I had kind of sucky trip north but in the midst of all of that, I got to go see Hollywood Blvd and see all the stars in beautiful California weather and that made it all worth it. No matter how bad it gets for me, walking outside and knowing I'm in the best place on earth makes me so happy. It's just so great to see people appreciating entertainment including the great impersonators including a Jack Sparrow and Michael Jackson. I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain yesterday which was fun. X, a four dimensional rollercoaster was mindblowing fantastic and gave me great an emotional rush. Definitely my favorite, defying gravity indeed. I went on 6 rollercoasters but unfortunatly, for the first time ever, I got nausous and threw up which kind of ruined the mood for me. I went on one more but eventually decided I couldn't take anymore and saw a bird show. That was fun and I got to be a volunteer and have a parrot land on me and then got a free picture after. It was cool.
Traveling gave me the oppurtunity to watch a lot of Office episodes so I went back and watch a lot of S3 episodes and others to see Pam's character arc. I saw the Pilot, The Dundies, Boys and Girls, Casino Night, Gay Witch Hunt, The Convention, The Coup, Initiation, Business School, Cocktails and of course, Beach Games. It's been a long journey for her. I'll never get tired of seeing these episodes. I'm excited to see the finale even though I know there'll be no new episodes, I just want to know what happens and have some closure for the season. I already have a full summer planned with lots of Office related things to do plus many more Office rewatchings. It's nice to have a show to love with all my heart. 2 more hours until the finale!!! *avoids recent LJ posts* |

I haven't been this happy to see an Office episode in a long time and it feels good. What a high! The entire episode was amazing but really it's all about the Pam love right now. I have a new default icon of her which is one of my favorites because of the joyful pride in her face of taking those small steps of honesty.
( Spoilers for Beach Games )
I love my show. It is good to watch it with other fans who understand the love and who get the emotional reactions to it. It's nice to be filled with happiness after watching The Office :D |

Office Day! (and Supernatural) |
[May. 10th, 2007|06:43 pm] |
I am SO excited for tonight's episode. Should be awesome!
From Watch with Kristin: I've just heard from multiple insiders that it's looking very likely that NBC will double the amount of The Office we'll get next season. I'm told it's looking like each episode will expand to be an hourlong; however, if that plan falls through for some reason, I'm hearing that, at the very least, NBC wants to pick up something like 37 episodes of the show in its current half-hour format
Yay! More Office in either case scenario which is a win-win-win situation for me. I'd be happy with either. Now I can't wait til Monday to find out.
Probably too late for tonight's episode but if anyone in the SoCal area wants to watch The Office with me, I'm inviting everyone over for an Office fan meetup. Details:
Date: May 10 Time: 8:30-9:30 (feel free to come early to be safe and stay later to discuss/squee :)) Location: Chapman University One University Dr Orange, CA 92866 General Directions Mapquest
It's in the Henley Hall basement in the media room which is the second residence hall on the left when you enter at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Center Street.
Date: May 17 Time: 8:00-9:00 (again, coming early/staying late is encouraged) Same place
And good news to hear about the Friday Night Lights and Supernatural renewals! |

I've been horrible with birthdays lately but I just have to wish a big Happy Birthday to sockkpuppett! Thank you for being such an amazing person who makes wonderful vids and talks about them and always inspire me with your talent, effort and perseverence in all your problems. I hope you had a great day and that the year to come delivers great rewards :)
Also Happy Belated Birthday to gelasius, ryansbabe63, desrose, fatema, monkeybear0420, absolutedestiny, shoopdancer, maygra, wistful_fever, karine_, astolat, seventhave, callie89, halcyon_shift and keerawa! I know it's really late for most of you but I truly do hope you had a great special day.
I finished Due South!! The ending was perfect and made me so happy. I am celebrating by watching tons of Due South vids over and over again. So many good vids out there! I will be doing a DS vid rec post tomorrow, don't have time now. And now I can finally read the hockey fic I've heard so much about as well as reread End of the Road (by katallison) again because I've been dying to read that again. One of my favorite fics EVER and that was before I had all the context.
I am so behind on vid feedback but hopefully will be sending some soon when I get my computer back. And then I will go on the great music project. Because I still want to find that perfect song for my Premiere vid.
I am back to loving The Office. I could never break up with it for long. The Dundies always makes me feel better. And Women Appreciation's Day really is a funny episode when I watch it again enjoying it as an ensemble. Is it Thursday yet? |
|
|
When a fandom fails you, move onto the next one ie Due South Love |
[May. 5th, 2007|11:40 pm] |
So it seems like me and The Office are having a breakup. I've still watched Women's Appreciation only once, not because it was all that bad but I have a bad feeling about it. I'm pissed off at the characters and the writers and the fact that I have to defend characters who I love even when I'm angry at them but also hurting with them. Yeah obviously I'm talking Michael and Jan here and it's ruining my enjoyment of the show as a whole and I hate that. This is why I don't like to invest myself into a ship too much, especially het ones where the writers can fuck it up. Now I'm hating the show for breaking my heart :( The whole Pam/Jim/Karen triangle is annoying me too although its more of a reaction to being frustrated with the characters.
Even the fact that the show producer is awesome and tried to get fanvids onto the S3 DVDs and even when that failed, still support US the fans, all of this still doesn't erase my negative feelings. And that is bad and wrong. I can't even get myself to watch my favorite episodes. I just have this bad feeling in my gut about it.
So I am distracting myself with some great episodes of Due South. I'm up to Mountie on the Bounty and it was awesome! The love story of Fraser and RayK makes me so happy. The fun part is I see so many images I've seen in vids. Specifically Out Here because I've watched that vid way too many times but I've seen Goodie Two Shoes, Wonder of Birds, In the Mirror and Flying Home clips as well and it's so cool to recognize them and see the context. I have banned myself from watching the vids while I'm watching the show which just makes me want to finish the series even more. And I want to read some good DS fic, read and unread. I love Fraser so much, he is a true hero.
( Get out of the closet, Fraser! Spoilers for Due South S2-3 )
So yeah, Due South=Love. I'm hoping to finish the series in the next week or so. I saw Supernatural and loved it for once. Not much to say but oh, Dean. How I love you so even when you tear my heart out. Grey's was pretty boring but made up for it with all the beautiful LA shots. God, I love my city so much. The waves, the landscapes, the city shots, all of it was looking good. Next weekend is my big trip up to Six Flags Magic Mountain where I'm going to spend all day riding some of the biggest, fastest and most thrilling roller coasters out there. Being a HUGE roller coaster fan, I'm super excited. I'm in it for that emotional high and that flying feeling I love so much. I'm also going to this big cats conservation center since they're my favorite animals. It'll be good to see some animals again. Now I only have to survive my last week of classes to get there. At least Monday I get my laptop back! :D |

The Office: Product Recall and other news |

It's May now so I can pretty much say that I have lived through one year without a real winter :D Minus the three week vacation time, I have seen no snow or freezing cold at all. And I am still not tired of the beautiful sunshine and warmth on my face each day. It still makes me happy and puts a smile on my face. Today we had Spring Sizzle, kind of a fun day with groups performing and groups setting up game booths. There was also a bouncy castle like on The Office! I jumped around on it like Michael would. Never lose that childlike wonder as he would say.
( The Office: Product Recall )
I was reading Entertainment Weekly and in an article about how much TV stars are paid, I read a quote by Steve Carell on how they don't want to ask for too much or the public think they're being ridiculous. But at the same time, the studios are making a lot off the show. Usually I'm skeptical of stars threatening to leave shows and the like because of salary but in The Office casts case? They deserve all the money in the world. Steve makes 175,000 an episode it said but if they wanted to give him and everyone else a couple million, I'd be happy. The whole cast is so awesome that I would love to see them rewarded. They're generous people anyways.
So apparently, there's a chance The Office may become a 1 hour show next season. If it happens, WOW. Talk about all my dreams coming true. I can't get enough of the show and more would be heaven. As long as it doesn't decrease in quality, I'm good with it. Casino Night was 30 minutes long and it was brilliant, add in some supporting character screentime and flesh out the main plot a bit more and The Office would be even better. I think they should give it a chance and see if it works.
I also love Angela Kinsey. Her article here is great. I love her point about Michael coming between Dwight and Angela and would love to see a storyline like that play out on the show. I love how it shows that the whole cast is like a family with her and Oscar going way back not to mention her being super cute with Jenna and the guys hanging out playing Madden football. One of the things I'm disappointed about in leaving California is I think I'm not going to get to meet any more Office people. Which yeah I know I'm lucky to meet a bunch and I will DEFINITELY be at The Office convention in the fall and I'm going to go to the Premiere of Dan in Real Life (really early) but I was hoping to see Melora's film (again) or see her live performance or see Kate this weekend and it doesn't look like that's going to happen *sigh* At least it looks like I scored another RL friend convert to marathon Office episodes with. I feel like Kevin in A Benihana Christmas...California or college? No College or NY? In the end, like him I have to go with my less than favorite but I will come back. Ashley/California will be reunited again.
On that circular note, I'm done as I don't have the energy to write about anything else. Two more days til a new Office episode! |

Heroes=Win-Win-Win |
[Apr. 30th, 2007|11:36 pm] |
Heroes was AWESOME-no time-but it was-NO TIME! I will comment on both it and The Office tomorrow (and Due South! my mind is blown from watching Some Like It Red) but suffice to say I am impressed. And still shocked and flailing. This show is so much fun to watch.
Also? Dwight is right. Hiro is a true hero in every way *loves him* |

House and Heroes |
[Apr. 24th, 2007|07:36 pm] |
New House tonight! I am so jealous of the East Coast people at the moment because I can finally watch House live and yet I have to wait. I can't wait to get some more House/Wilson/Cuddy action. Also, Foreman! If you had told me when I first started to watch House that I would end up loving the ducklings, I would have said you were nuts. But now I have a fondness for all of them with Foreman rising above to be my favorite. He's just so awesome sometimes. S3 wasn't as bad as I heard mostly because I could care less about how realistic the medical plots are, enjoy House being an asshole and addict (and don't mind him staying that way) and at least the Tritter arc hooked me into continuing to watch. And a request. Does anyone know where to find any House/Wilson and/or House/Wilson/Cuddy OTP/OT3 icons?
( Spoilers for S3 of House up to Act Your Age )
I've been looking into House fandom a bit and it's nice to see House/Wilson have such a strong following and actually dominating in some cases. I mean, it is practically canon (at least to me) and I do love the slash happy writers but it's just nice to have some equal ground in terms of canon with het couples. I find it interesting how fandoms are structured according to shows. House has all the competing ships for his love interest and then you have a show like The Office where there's a bunch of different non competing ships. The latter definitely helps with less fights. Not to mention, I watch The Office in a much more optimistic fashion while House is perfect for my inner cynic.
( Heroes Spoilers for .7% )
In The Office news, the show is taking over my icons. It's already got at least half and I wish I could add so many more. I really can't wait til this Thursday. Watching two episodes per day can only do so much. I need new episodes NOW. Also, I need to stop reading the TwoP spoiler thread. I have never been so amazed at how much time people can spend talking about JKras's hair and Jim/Pam/Karen when I could care less. But the lure of spoilers gets me everytime. Come back, Office, I neeed you. |

[Apr. 21st, 2007|02:05 pm] |
So I was having kind of a crappy day yesterday with the raining reflecting my mood. I was just tired, sick of school, dealing with issues with friends and not feeling that good about myself. On days like that I just wish something good would happen to me. And it did! I got a surprise package in the mail of all 7 seasons of Buffy (the collectors edition) which I had ordered from Amazon (a few hours before they sold out thankfully) with that special $100 deal they had which I wasn't expecting til next week. So now I am so happy to have so many wonderful episodes on DVD in my possession. I can vid them at anytime now too :) I've been planning to go back and rewatch S2-3 but I've decided to go back and watch the entire series along with the extras. Slowly this time, not in a month or so. I saw the pilot yesterday and it was just so cute. They're all so cute when they were young! And I remembered why I love Willow *hearts them all* It's funny how I remember clips from being in Scooby Road and other videos.
I've been rewatching some Whose Line episodes and it's making me fall in love with Ryan and Colin all over again. Especially Greatest Hits. I love how connected they are in that game, how well they work as a team, how they imitate each other and yet play off one another, the adoring looks they give each other, the banter, the happiness from just being with each other and of course I can't forget the beautiful dancing scene the game led to. Meant to be indeed. I have this perfect romantic song I listen to and that makes me feel so overwhelmed with love for them everytime I hear it.
People who reference The Office make me so happy. First we have Ryan Stiles in his interview mentioning Steve Carell and The Office ( Interview quotes under the cut ) So did Steve Carell actually end up on a Whose Line? Because if he did, I must see it immediatly. It's so awesome he worked with Ryan though, although I knew they were all in Second City, it's so cool they actually worked together. And referencing Michael trying to do improv was perfect. Yay for fandoms colliding! Also Peter Casey who co-created and help wrote Frasier was talking at my school last Monday and he said the only show he was watching was The Office and that he loved it. So that made me happy.
The things about The Office that has never really happened to me before is that I want everyone to watch it. Unless you have a HUGE embarassment squick (and even then, trying out one S2/S3 episode would be nice), I believe that everyone should watch at least the first 7 episodes of S2 to give it a chance to see if they like it. Because it makes me sad that some people have not had the chance to fall in love with the show and the characters and everything about it. I mean, it used to be me! I could have had a year and a half of loving the show if I had known about it sooner. So I do try to tell people about the show, I'm going to be working on my family this summer and I let people borrow my precious DVDs just to get them to watch it. I will gladly do a lot of things for people if they would watch the show because I really believe it is that good. The quality of the show is so high and my love for the characters is so great that I want to support the show with everything I can.
( Office thoughts, no spoilers )
Quick Supernatural Hollywood Babylon thoughts ( behind the cut )
The Office vid rec: My current favorite Jim/Pam vid is The Denial Twist. It makes the S3 angst not angsty in a really good way and the motion and fast cutting in it is absolutely amazing. I think the denial in both Jim and Pam is a big part of their relationship so the song choice really works for me. Highly recommended. |

[Apr. 13th, 2007|10:49 pm] |
It's been a great few days and so much had happened that I don't know where to begin. First off yesterday I went to Universal Studios with clayangel, indybaggins and blackstray and had an awesome time. Since Universal produces The Office, I counted all the Office stuff I could find.
1) I was greeted by a speaker doing a promo about the true love that is Dwight/Angela with awesome soundbites like the "my animal deserves a lot of loving" TH. So my Office squee started in full gear. 2) An Office poster on the way to the Citywalk! Steve, Rainn, John, Jenna and BJ look so hot in their suits. 3) On the big screen TV in the amusement park, they played an Office promo! With lots of good moments including Pam falling off her chair in the Dundies and some funny Michael quotes. 4) On the Studio Tour they mentioned that The Office films some stuff here although obviously not the main office building. They also said Steve had shot some Evan Almighty scenes there. 5) There was a huge Office poster on one of the studio buildings. It looked great!
How I love my show. Although I couldn't see it live last night, I made it my mission to watch it and managed to download it after 3 tries that took 3 hours. But it was so worth it! I had low expectations for the episode but the episode made me love my show SO MUCH in that it can be amazing in any scenario. It knows what the show is all about whether it be Michael (can I possibly love him anymore?) or the whole office having fun together. Also I laughed a lot, it had great lines and a little bit of M/Jness. Although I still hate that there's a rerun next week (UGH), I'm really looking for all of the future episodes especially the finale which should be amazing.
In Whose Line news, I met Ryan Stiles!!! And Jeff, Chip and Greg but still RYAN. I saw him when he first got out of the bus at Cal Poly and then I saw the show which was hilarious and sooo slashy. They're all just the best. But after I got to meet Ryan and I got a picture with him and Greg :D He was so nice to me and everyone and yes, so tall. We also got to talk to Ryan's manager so I asked her if Ryan was going to do a show with Colin anytime soon. The exact quotes are fuzzy in my mind but she said that Colin and Ryan are genius together and that they don't have anything scheduled but it was possible. This should all be transcribed later because I'm drawing a blank. But it definitely sounded positive that it would happen sometime. Later I got to talk to Ryan again and told him I loved Whose Line and it always made me laugh and then asked him the same Colin question. He said Colin was doing his own thing with Brad so it was hard for them to do anything together. I'm forgetting what else right now, sorry the squee has overwhelmed my brain. But he did say that him and Colin meet up once every year so at least there's that. It was just so awesome to be able to meet him and talk to him and I'm still in a state of WOW.
Oh and I told Chip I loved him on The Office (as Josh aka King of the Stupid Universe/Poor Man's Michael Scott). I love it when two fandoms collide.
Also, I LOVE California. No matter where I go, it's always beautiful. Drivin up north, the scenery is gorgeous all over the place. Plus the temperature is perfect with sunshine and 70s/high 60s. Still puts a smile on my face :) |

After years and years and years (/Jim) of waiting, The Office finally returned tonight with a new episode :D I have never gone through a hiatus this bad before but I officially survived the Hiatus of Hell. I finally got to seee the episode and now I am just unbelievably happy because my show is completely perfect in every way. Hilarious and I love all the characters more than I ever thought I would. And brilliant as usual. It completes me, it really does. I'm too tired to write coherent thoughts on it today but WOW. Never leave me show, never leave me!
Also I got to see the show at the same time as the East Coasters for once! That was cool. And Heroes reference! Now we have Lost, Smallville, Grey's Anatomy, Battlestar Galactica, Alias, (ETA) Entourage, The L Word, Queer as Fuck Folk...any more TV shows I'm forgetting?
To top it off, you have Steve Carell looking deliciously hot all buff:

And Melora looking unbelievably gorgeous:

And Michael and Jan being hotter than all that is hot here. Beautiful, amazing fic.
I think I'm in cat heaven the last week and now I am dying to have a cat. I am so full of love for them. The overwhelming kind that comes close to my Office love (which is saying a LOT). Also Vividcon season has begun and it's so exciting! I can't wait til August.
I LOVE The Office! |

Basically everything that is awesome |
[Mar. 22nd, 2007|06:05 pm] |
First off, Happy Belated Birthday to fadsy!
Things that are awesome in the world of me:
1) It is a beautiful, sunny and warm day outside. After some grey, cooler days in the beginning of the week I only appreciate it more. 2) I recovered all the files on my hard drive! Including all my vids in progress and all my music, vids and documents. The tech people at my school rock. SO happy about that. Even if I still have to do without my laptop for a few weeks or so. Thank god for external hard drives. Now if only I can find some way to vid... 3) I got an A- on a big test that I wasn't expecting :) 4) Spring Break is in a week!! I can't wait to spend time with l13vi11e finally. 5) I received Melora's cd in the mail (finally) and it's awesome! She has such a great voice. And she autographed my cd with my name and everything *squee* Also I got my Escapade DVD and it made me happy to rewatch some vids. 6) House RULES all. I enjoyed the first season but the second season has been making me overflow with love for the show especially House who continues to get better and better. So many hilarious moments or times when he just takes down everyone in sight. Before I could just watch one episode a day or so but now I can't help but watch episode after episode and so I am now at 213. It's addicting! Who knew? At the moment I continue to ship House/Wilson and enjoy House/Stacy and House/Cuddy. ( Some spoilers for S1-2 ) This quote pretty much sums up my perspective on the relationships on the show: "I've moved past threesomes. I'm now into foursomes. If someone backs out then you've still got a threesome. If two people back out, you're still having sex. You'd be amazed." Oh House, how I love you. You had the beginning threesome of Cuddy/House/Wilson and then you add in Stacy to get your foursome. I've promoted House to an OTC because he is just that good.
Best two OMG Office moments would be from 118 Vogler's "Gregory House is a symbol of everything wrong with the healthcare industry." just like Michael's "Toby Flenderson is everything that is wrong with the paper industry." And then House going "What? Mommy and Daddy are having a little fight, it doesn’t mean we’ve stopped loving you," pinged me for the Pam's deleted scene Initiation TH about Michael and Jan: "It's like Mommy and Daddy are fighting. Except Mommy outranks Daddy. And Mommy is way scarier." LOVE that quote. Plus I love that House refers to them as his children like Michael. Which just further shows why I don't like House/Cameron because they're not really equals to me. Or interesting. I have also found the perfect song for House which is just so him for me. I am undecided about vidding it but its definitely fun to vid it in my head.
7) Two more weeks before new Office episodes! I am in love with this video because it brings me overwhelming love for my show and the characters and everything about it. And puts a huge smile on my face. If I don't watch an episode (at least) per day, it just makes me sad and miss them so much. I really am afraid of how much I love this show. I LOVE YOU THE OFFICE! *hearts* 8) New Grey's and SPN tonight! At least that helps me get through this hiatus hell. How awesome would it be to see House and Cristina working together? That'd be my ideal doctor show.
Would anybody be super super nice and upload Always Tonight by Catherine Feeny or Love Today by Mika for me? *wishes I had my laptop back* |

Computer woes |
[Mar. 18th, 2007|07:07 pm] |
So now my laptop has stopped working. According to the tech guys at my school, the hard drive is shot. Probably randomly. Great, just great. Not only do I have a ton to do this week, I don't have all my vids, vidding stuff, music and personal computer for internet usage. Already I can't even get Lum's vid to play :( I'm hoping I can recover the information because I stupidly don't have it backed up. The place where I bought it from is in NY so it'll probably take forever me to get it back. So I guess I'll be using the school library a lot. *sigh* This just sucks.
Some new Michael/Jan fic cheered me up and probably watching The Office will do the same but I can tell it'll be a long two weeks before the glorious month of April begins. |

Happy Belated Birthdays to fan_eunice, hannahrorlove and gossipcom! Hope you all had fantastic days :)
Gah, I'm so behind. At least it's felt like that since February 22nd since I went to Escapade and Cocktails came on and then I met The Office cast and Melora and Julian McMahon. Crazy. I don't know how caught up I'll get but we'll see.
I don't have a lot to say about Escapade except that I had a wonderful time. It was AWESOME to see familiar fans again as well as new ones. I had a lot of fun talking to people and listening to panels and watching the amazing vid show. I really needed the break. There's nothing like talking about fandom and vids with people who get it. I left the con feeling really fulfilled and happy with myself which I've been feeling a lot these days. It's definitely nice having a good boost to my self-esteem :)
Good news is its been absolutely beautiful out lately. There is nothing, NOTHING like walking out into 80 degree weather with the bright sun shining down on my face. It just puts a smile on my face no matter how crappy my mood is or what early time in the morning it is. Paradise. Every day I feel blessed and lucky and am so glad I made the best decision of my life to come here.
I finished catching up on Heroes and I've been enjoying it a lot without feeling fannish about it. My problem primarily there is I haven't really connected too much to the characters and relationships beyond caring about them. The plot is what gets me in this show, its so much fun to see what happens next. I love Hiro (of course) and Nathan is my hot guy who I can't help but like because I looooove flying. That scene in 105 was the coolest thing ever. And I like Claire and her father as well.
Currently watching S1 of House and loving it. I really could care less about most of the medical plots but I LOVE House. I got pimped into the show when I met one of the writers, Matt Witton and they showed episodes of it and I couldn't believe how hilarious and smart and awesome House was. At the moment, I'm most enjoying him with Wilson and Cuddy and can definitely see where the slash is coming from. I find Foreman, Cameron and Chase all really boring though but thankfully House has good enough interactions with them that I don't mind. I can't wait to watch Bukowski (ie astolat's amazing vid) with context!
Still all about The Office these days. I was feeling pretty bummed the last week about not having episodes for another three weeks but then thankfully some new Michael/Jan spoilers came up and now I feel SO much better and excited for what's to come. I have officially turned into a total spoiler whore for this show. I just can't get enough! It's nice to finally have a fandom to call my own that I can love with all my being. It feels like people feel that way for Supernatural or QaF or whatever other show and I've never really had that. Not since Smallville and that was back in 2002. It's nice to be able to read all the news, spoilers, discussion, fic for my ship (hopefully more in the future), vids, etc and not get tired of it. Not to mention watching episodes as many times as I can. I've watched almost all the episodes 3 times now and my favorites a lot more than that. I can just listen to the show and just be entertained. It definitely helps with vidding. And good news is newpeats on tonight! I can't wait to see some of the new scenes added in.
I'm off to San Diego this weekend so I have no idea how much I'll be around. |

It's been a day and I am still filled with OMG I MET MELORA *squee*. For the second time in 3 days! It all started when Melora posted on her Myspace that she was doing a screening of the film she directed and acted in, YOU on Monday. She needed 20-30 people to watch it and fill out a questionaire. Thankfully it fit perfectly into my schedule so I headed off to LA. Thank god I had that excitement after a particularly sad spoiler made me sad Monday morning. So thankfully I get there perfectly at 4 and head into the studios which is always a bit movie surrealish. So I approach a group of people, not sure if it's the right place but as I get close I see her! *cue OMG moment* As I get close, she sees me and goes up to me, greets me, shakes my head (EEE) and smiles :D She said thanks so much for coming and I said, thanks for inviting me. And then the thing that made me SO happy:
SHE REMEMBERED ME!!! From the Paley Festival! *feels special* I was so psyched. She said they had a great time there and it was great to be with other people watching the episode and hearing the laughs. I said I loved it too as I had never watched The Office with other people except one time with people who weren't really fans and didn't get it (I'm talking about you Escapade people I kind of watched Cocktails with). Then she asked me what my name was again and I was like Ashley and it seemed like she remembered me from Myspace. She asked me where I was from and I said that I went to college in Orange. And then she asked me what my major was and I said Psychology. Have I mentioned the part where I'm having a personal conversation with Melora Hardin where she's actually asking about ME?? I will never get over that. She was just so nice and interested and caring and just *happy sigh*
So then I reiterated that I love Michael and Jan and that they were my Jim and Pam. And I said that there were a lot of people who loved them too (yay fellow M/J fans!). You could tell she was really happy to hear that, she was so thankful to me about The Office love. I told her that I was trying to convert all my friends to watch it and already had gotten two of them even though they were more Jim/Pam fans. But yeah, have I mentioned that she looked just as absolutely beautiful as ever?? She was wearing jeans (Casino Nightesque), a white with blue stripes shirt and a black vest with her hair up looking similar to how it was in Cocktails. She looked professional but casual which fit the setting. She invited me to have some drinks and sit down and was just so nice to me. You could tell she was the director of it all and she was definitely a great host of it. After I just had the biggest holy shit! moment that I actually talked to Melora. So surreal. And then I hung around awhile and mostly watched her a lot in total amazement that I was in her presence. Yeah, sometimes I'm just the biggest fangirl. But she sounded like Jan! So freaking weird to hear her and actually be there.
So then I went to see the movie which I loved. Melora was amazing with the acting and it was great to see Brenda Strong who I loved in Everwood/Desperate Housewives and Allison Mack who I love in Smallville. I really liked some of the visuals and editing in the movie as well. It's definitely a very emotional, touching movie with some great scenes of comedy and a very loving, family feel. It's basically about a man whose wife dies but he still sees visions of her while he tries to raise his daughter. ( Some minor spoilers for the movie with a distinct Michael/Jan focus ) So when the movie comes out, everyone should go see it! Support Melora, she's awesome.
So then I filled out the questionaire which took forever because I am such a perfectionist and wanted to make sure to give Melora good feedback (very similar to my fannish feedback habits of course). I was the last one to finish which wasn't the best thing to do since I still had to ask her about future episodes. I heard her talking on her cell phone to her daughter at one point and it was just sooo cute. She said "I love you" to her! I saw her father and mother there too and her mother was actually there when I went down to talk to her before I left. I went up to her and she thanked me so much for coming and I said I was really glad to come and that I had really loved the movie and that she was awesome in it. Melora thanked me and smiled and was just really grateful. So then I mustered up the courage to ask what all of us Michael/Jan fans are dying to know, "I was wondering if you could tell me anything about Michael and Jan in the upcoming episodes." She laughed a little and said it was cute but that she really didn't know much. But she did tell me ( Spoilers for The Office under the cut ) She thanked me again for coming and I said that I had a wonderful time and thanks for inviting me.
So yeah, that was my experience. I wish I had gotten more from her in the way of spoilers but my mind was going blank at the time from meeting her and I didn't want to pressure her too much or hold her up from going to dinner. I was just BURSTING with love after meeting her though. It's so great to actually be able to talk to a celebrity in a relaxed setting. I like one on one talk the best so this was just the coolest experience. Melora is officially my favorite actress and an absolutely amazing person. And I LOVE LA for providing me with this oppurtunity. I'm fastly growing addicted to it and now can't wait to meet The Office cast again and especially her (and Steve if I get the chance). It's nice that she's not a HUGE name so it's easier to get to meet her. I've been listening to some of Melora's music the past few days (still waiting for her cd) and I just love it. She's so multitalented. Here's my favorite of the ones I've listened to:
Melora Hardin - All Messed Up So sexy, catchy and great.
I'm still reeling from meeting her. *channels Michael* I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!! |

The Office Paley Festival Report |
[Mar. 4th, 2007|12:18 am] |
So I'm going to start right from the beginning. I see the DGA and am all excited and nervous about finally getting to see the cast of The Office in real life. Immediately outside, I see a guy in a suit and I'm like, OMG is that Darryl? Which it is! So I'm speechless and just look at him as I pass and then finally I say, "I love the show and I love your character and how you play him!" as he walks past me and he looks at me and smiles. So already I was off to a great start and SO excited about getting to see the cast. I walk in the DGA and there's a long line of people hoping to get a ticket to the left and right ahead of them is the MTR signs with all the cast with lots of photographers standing in my line of view. I go up to the box office they have there to get my ticket (problem with my membership number, long story, dont ask) and as I wait through all the people I see MELORA. And she looked gorgeous and I was just all excited that I was in the same room with her. Such a fangirl OMG moment. I had a bunch more of those as I saw Kate, Paul, Brian and Phyllis. Later on Ed and Rashida came out and had a bunch of pictures taken of them. Much easier to see them. So finally I get into my seat and the cast comes out with Melora coming out first and then she goes to sit 10 rows ahead of me! So surreal to actually be able to see her hair lol. All of the cast sat up front to watch Cocktails (SO happy they showed that!), the next episode and then the blooper reel which I was so excited to see. They really are so nice to fans. It was so fun to see Cocktails with a group, everyone was laughing at all the funny parts including the Michael/Jan scenes which made me happy to see. And there was lots of awws for Toby and Pam which was cute.
First a disclaimer: I may have remembered something wrong or misread something in my notes and wrote something down wrong.
( SPOILER ALERT: Detailed (with quotes) spoilers for the upcoming episode )

Um...WOW |
[Mar. 3rd, 2007|03:02 am] |
Have I mentioned that The Office has the BEST CAST EVER recently? Cause it totally does. And I met them!! I went to The Paley Festival tonight and had one of the best experiences ever. First things first, I MET MELORA AND STEVE!!! Yes, Steve was there to my complete shock and delight. I got an autograph and a picture with each of them and told them how much I loved Michael and Jan not to mention their acting. And I also got a picture and autograph from Rainn (LOVE) and a picture with Angela and an autograph from Jenna and pictures of a bunch of other cast members. And I talked with Greg Daniels! Who is very cool.
Biggest news on the Michael/Jan front? We saw about 10-15 minutes of the next (? wasnt clear on that) episode and Jan is there!! With Michael and OMG it is hilarious. I may just love this ship times infinity. Michael is just so awesome in this episode, there are no words. And there was a blooper reel that made me LMAO and they showed Cocktails which made me happy. And Steve kissed Oscar! For real this time. Oh Steve, how I love you. I have notes on everything but the blooper reel so I'll share that tomorrow. I just can't believe I met them!! Totally worth all the money. Oh and they all look just as gorgeous in person. What an amazing, wonderful, squeeful night *happy sigh*
ETA: Okay I have no strength to resist Michael/Jan so I typed up some of their stuff in the part of the episode that was shown. Beware, LOTS of spoilers under the cut including quotes, plot details and jokes:

Okay, really going to bed now. |

Now THIS is why I love my college... |
[Mar. 1st, 2007|06:35 pm] |
So I'm in this Primetime TV show club at my school because well duh, I love TV. Tonight we have a meeting and the professor that runs it is bringing in Mark Witton to show a House episode he wrote and discuss the process of writing it. Sounds really good and I know House is a good show (even if I've only seen like 15 minutes of an episode) so I'm looking forward to it. But then I look at the IMDB to see what else he's written.
It turns out that he wrote PLAYTHINGS of Supernatural. You know the one with one of the most wincesty and emotional scenes EVER between Sam and Dean? *dies a little* So now I am super excited to meet him just to say I loved the episode. How cool is that? With this and seeing The Office cast at the Paley Festival tomorrow (OMG SQUEE), I may die happy.
Still working on typing up my reaction to Cocktails (SO AWESOME) and Escapade and memes post...I have just been in a procrastination/non-writing mode lately so it's kind of hard to overcome. And I finally got around to watching the second episode of Heroes and DAMN. That sucked me right into the show. So now I am quickly trying to get through the episodes (I'm on eight now) so I can watch the show this Monday live. Such an awesome show! |

Today is an awesome day. |
[Feb. 16th, 2007|04:21 pm] |
For so many reasons. First of all, happy birthday heresluck! I hope you have an awesome day and a great year full of vidding and great food, music, books and tv shows. It was so wonderful to meet you at Vividcon and I am still constantly amazed (and entertained) by your vids. May there be many more to come!
I am still on a high from the last Office episode. I still can't believe this show gets better and better every single week. Not to mention making me love Michael more and more.
( The Office: Business School )
Nice to see people loving Michael again. This show just makes me so happy. After I saw this episode, I went to this ice cream social on my floor because I was in such a good mood and believe so much more in *people*. I had a lot of fun too, I gave my Office DVDs to my RA to get her to watch the show and played Spoons with some people which was great. Nothing like an intense card game to make the day better. This month has been SO WONDERFUL because I love almost every day. I like my classes, my work, my friends and my show that always cheers up my day. Not to mention it was a beautiful 80 degrees today :D Life is wonderful. Especially with the weekend here. It makes me so happy knowing that in less than a week I'll be at Escapade! Watching a huge shipper squee episode of The Office and then Grey's Anatomy and Supernatural with fans :D I can't wait to be in a fannish environment again.
Also a HUGE reminder for everyone to sign up for Vividcon this Sunday, February 18th at 1 PM EST/10 AM PST. If you love vidding from watching vids to making vids to reading vid meta, this is the convention for you. I am still reeling from going to Vividcon last year for the first time where I had the time of my life. Seriously, it is that good. I know of nothing to compare to seeing your favorite vidders and vidfans, watching (new) vids on big screen, talking about vids all day long and being in a general fandom-loving, vid-loving environment. It was worth every penny of my money and more. I would definitely recommend staying for as long as you possibly can. If you feel jealous hearing about Vividcon, it probably means you should come. So set your alarms, get your friends to remind you, have a friend sign you up if you can't be at your computer at that time. Just make sure to register early as last year it sold out in about 5 hours and this year it'll probably be sooner. I really, really can't wait for Vividcon now. Is it August yet?
Also? sisabet made a new Supernatural vid!!! Go download here It is freaking amazing and heartbreaking and GAH soo good. |
